You can not go wrong with this very nice DVD player. It has everything you could want except for DVD-Audio, which is okay since the selection of them is so limited. By the time the selection is better, this DVD player will be old and in need of replacement anyway. This player has an excellent picture, good sound, and a nice menu and button layout. The remote is good. For the money, this player is a winner!

I didn't buy this DVD player to listen to MP3s or CDs, I bought it strictly to watch DVDs in 480p with Dolby Digital 5.1. For the price, this is an excellent progressive-scan DVD player. However, it does have the chroma bug, which most people won't even notice.

The unit has composite, S-Video, and Y/Cr/Cb component outputs. You need component video to display in progressive scan, as well as a TV that outputs in 480p, such as an HDTV. Truthfully, progressive scan makes very little difference on a standard 480i (interlaced) TV.

Audio outputs are composite, optical, and digital coax (bitstream). The latter two are required for Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS.

I am not overly concerned with features or the remote; if it works, I'm happy. Notably on the remote control, there is a button that allows the user to toggle between interlaced and progressive scan to check the difference. In some cases, interlaced looks better on older source material, since seeing interlaced source material doubled to progressive often shows you all the junk that was previously hidden.

The A/V quality is top-notch, with 54 Mhz video decoding and 192 Khz audio decoding. The player itself is relatively artifact-free.

Overall, this is an excellent player, especially considering I got it new ... on sale. However, for best-in-class single disc progressive scan, 54 Mhz/192 Khz, the Panasonic RP-82 appears to be the DVD player of choice.

Sub-par progressive scan player..........2003-01-06

You should realize initially that progressive scan dvd players will have a better picture, even if you don't own a HDTV. So the picture and audio quality were a nice improvement when I first got this player...and at a great price. However, it does not age well at all. I've had it a little over the year, and the freezes when it switches layers (many movies use 2 layers of the DVD disk) are becoming more pronouced. It is becoming more frequent that you cannot see the dot or highlight that lets you know what you are selecting (you can select, but it becomes a guessing game) until you power down, eject the disk, and start all over again. Finally, it is starting to completely freeze...and I mean completely (you can't even power down from the front buttons, you have to pull the cord at the back). Don't waste your money.

Better get something that works!.......2003-01-04

We bought this DVD a year ago, and it's absolutely not worth what we paid for it. The DVD picture and sound are Ok, but this is the case with most DVDs. Now for the fun part: the remote is not designed to be used - there are rows of buttons, similar in size, and not very conveniently placed, so if you want to fast forward, pause etc. without looking at remote - forget it. It does not play SVCDs. I've gladly replaced Toshiba's remote with the universal, never to touch it again. But i can't do anything with mp3 playback - it totally lacks features: you can't program, you can't go directly to a certain track, you can't fast fast forward, it doesn' show titles etc. Finally, it comes with a disclaymer about what types of mp3s it is supposed to play. Well, it doesn't play even those, and it comes down to the fact that it won't play most of my mp3s at all. So, if mp3 is even slightly important to you, you will be better off with something else

Great value in a DVD player - don't use it for MP3s.......2002-12-29

This player has come down in price almost 50% since I bought it 1 year ago. It has superb picture quality and sound quality when playing either CDs or DVDs. The features are unmatched in this price range and all work really well. Occasionally (not on all DVDs) I have noticed it hesitate in the middle of moving from one chapter to the next but I have also seen this problem on most DVD players my friends have - some of those players are a lot more expensive than this one too. Navigation is easy either with the remote or the on-unit controls. Both give you quick access to the features you want. It will auto-power off if you leave the tray open and always shuts the tray when it turns off. The drive inside this thing is ultra-quiet. The remote is probably one of the easiest to use - I'm almost sad to be replacing it and the other 4 I have with a universal learning remote. I really bought this unit for its assortment of compatibility with DVD/VCD/CD, MP3, CD-R, DVD-R, and CD-RW as well as the impressive stats for the 54MHz video DAC, 192kHz/24-bit audio converter, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel pass-through, component-video, composite-video, and S-Video terminals. All of which live up to their claims. Unfortunately, Macrovision protection prevented me from copying DVDs to video tape for playing on my kids TV/VCR combo - oh well.

So the only real disappointment is the MP3 playback. The manual comes with a detailed explanation of the limitations of the MP3 playback. MP3 CDs must be 650MB, use DOS-style 8.3 names and files cannot be listed in sub-directories. It also does not extract ID3 tags so you are limited to the file name for determining what MP3 is being selected. You can also only have up to 254 MP3 files on any CD you put in the Toshiba 3750. I was successfully able to compile an MP3 CD that met all of these criteria including the 128-kbit 44.1kHz sample rate and the MP3 playback was horrible. Pops and crackles and a very dull tone made the MP3 feature useless to me. So, instead I have a Creative Nomad now. Still highly recommended for DVDs - hopefully my next DVD/MP3 CD player will be better.

Hey this isn't a high def player, but for $70 bucks, it works very well. Remote is handy too. Sound is good, but there are not bass controls. You are limited to the jazz/rock/classical presets. And max volume is rather low.

I'd say for the price, its a good deal.

A boom-box MP3 player with remote control? Hard to find a product like this at any price let alone this bargain. I payed $66.49 with free amazon prime shipping. I'm listening to it now--playing one of my 90+ song "jukebox" cds of high-quality mp3s--the sound quality is fine. Sure, the cd-door feels mushy and cheap and you can't fast-forward mp3s, but again, at this price, I highly recommend this product.

Not Dual Cassette........2005-02-13

Note to those who are expecting a dual cassette unit, as this boombox is described in its listing--this has a single cassette only. The sound quality for CDs is somewhat acceptable (for a small boombox) at medium to higher volumes, but it is annoyingly "tinny" at lower volumes. On the other hand, it does offer lots of MP3 features (not tried by me).

No "boom" in this box.......2005-01-29

I bought this on a friday and returned it a few days later. Very nice to look and and alot of good features like the MP3 capability, but extremely poor audio makes for a big disappointment. Despite the claims of "Deep, rich bass" made by the manufacturer, the unit has a low volume that maxes out at 29. The extra bass button and jazz, classic, and rock settings make very little difference in the sound. It's definitely meant to be kept indoors inside a quiet room because I seriously doubt it could be heard outdoors, or in a noisy environment. This would be a good deal if JVC had installed better sound capabilities.

Not Worth the Price Premium.......2001-03-21

This card works fine, but here is the bitter truth.

The core of all the cards (known in technical terms as the "controller") are made by only a few DRAM manufacturers. Those handful of DRAM manufacturers then sell the "controllers" to the major flash card manufacturers (i.e. SanDisk, Kodak, Olympus, and Viking). The flash card manufacturers then simply throw some plastic casings on the controllers, slap on a label, and ship the cards. As long as the flash card manufacturer is reputable, has a good warranty, and has been around for over 5 years; you will be just fine.

What I am trying to get at? I simply want to make it clear that you should not buy a card based solely on the fact it is made by Kodak. Check the pricing against the other major manufacturers (i.e. SanDisk, Viking, etc.) and then make your decision.

useful reliable memory cards.......2001-01-26

I use this 64-meg memory card in my Kodak DC4800 camera, in my HP Handheld (660LX) computer, AND in my old Kodak DC50 camera also. (My handheld computer and DC50 camera both require an adapter.) Works great -- I have not encountered a single problem.

This card can hold about 65 pictures in the best-quality JPG format from my DC4800 camera. When shooting in the highest-quality mode (TIFF format), I can get only about 10 pictures on this card. For those times when I shoot in the TIFF mode, I bought the bigger 128meg Kodak card which holds twice as much.

I have a Digital Wallet 6-gig storage device onto which I download pictures from the chip when I'm on the road, and as should be expected - this Kodak card works fine there too.

These cards come pre-formatted for Windows but you can reformat them for Mac computers.

I bought this camera because I have been switching back and forth between a Pentax zoom camera I won in a drawing and my six-year-old date-stamp Konica. I had finally had it. I wanted a camera that could zoom AND date stamp at the same time without me having to resort to my digital camera all the time. I'm a member of Amex's membership rewards program and one of their rewards is this camera. I compared it with the other Konica cameras of its caliber. I researched it in contrast to other companies' offerings for similar systems. .... I received the camera right before we went on vacation to CA. Can I just say that I *LOVE* this camera! It's light, easy to use, and takes great photos! The only way they could make it better would be if it had greater zoom capacity and I could see the photo before it was written to the film. If you're on a tight budget, yet don't want your camera to look like you are, then this is the camera for you.
