Weatherproof speakers are a must if you want to enjoy music outdoors, on a boat, or even in a steamy bathroom. The venerable American firm of KLH (which has been building speakers since 1957) produces one of the best models of indoor-outdoor speakers we know of, the SS-02s.

The SS-02s are very compact, making them easy to place just about anywhere. Their black finish and slightly curved facade are quite attractive, and they even come packed with mounting brackets, screws, and speaker wires. And, unlike far too many designs, the SS-02s come with real five-way, gold-plated binding posts, not the cheap push terminals. The included wires, however, are very thin. The use of thicker speaker cable markedly improves the speakers' sound quality, especially with the long cable runs required for most outdoor setups.

We sampled the SS-02s in our main listening room as well as in a steamy bathroom. To our delight, they produce a balanced, crystalline midrange and were especially good with vocals. High frequencies sound both clear and extended. But, as you might expect from a pair of 4-inch woofers, the bass--while responsive and clean--isn't very extended or deep. On the other hand, the SS-02s play loudly, which is important for a speaker that will do duty in the great outdoors.

KLH's SS-02s offer good sound for a small speaker at an excellent price. That in itself makes them easy to recommend. The fact that you can enjoy them indoors or out, come rain or shine, makes them that much more desirable. --Wayne Garcia

The SS-02 contains a 4-inch polypropylene woofer and a 0.63-inch liquid-cooled polycarbonate tweeter. Yea i just got these speakers and hooked it up to my mini home theatre system and its adding in the extra boom, bass, treble, etc that i needed to rock my house until the day after forever. it's very good quality and i recommend these speakers to anyone who wants an amazing sound experience! it gives clear sound which is a must have when it comes to speakers. i give it 4 stars because i think the price could of been a little bit lower for these speakers . . . i mean cmon 25 bucks a peice is pretty high! but overall its well worth the money if you can experience the sound quality that it returns!

24-Hour Shipping Promised but not Delivered.......2003-06-20

The online guide said product would ship in 24-hours but after I entered the order on Wednesday, 6-18-03, the shipping information showed 48-hours as in Friday, 6-20-03. Also, I specified and was charged for overnight shipping but again, the shipping information says that my product won't arrive until Monday, 6-23-03. If you can't ship or deliver in 24-hours, don't say that you can.

Hello! Thinking of the Meade DS 114, 4.5" reflector? It's a very good starter telescope, provided you get 1.25" eyepieces and not 0.985" eyepieces, and a 30mm finder and not a 24mm finder.

Once you get used to the electronic controller, you may want to buy and add (a) an electronic focuser that is operated from the little controller, or (b) a go-to 495 or 497 controller.

However, you can get this telescope on eBay for $122 from the manufacturer, meade Instruments. Sure, it may have a scuff on the tube, but it's half price and has a full guarantee.

Best First Telescope.......2002-03-14

It's a great price. It gives clear views and the objects are very detailed when looking through a high magnification eyepiece.
Also it is easy to operate and it's a perfect first telescpe for people who are just getting started in amateur astronomy.
It's hard to keep the telescope lined up with the object while changing eyepieces and it's hard to move it indoors and outdoors because of its size.Those are the only bad things I could find.

I bought this for my daughter who wanted a telescope. I have had a few over the years and know my way around a telescope and the night sky. Over all I like the scope, especially at the price. It could use better eye pieces and a the finder scope that comes with it is a pain. I plan on buying more eyepieces and replacing the finder.

I purchased this scope about a year ago and have NO problems with it. Let's be honest, if you are on a budget, you cannot beat this price. I paid close to what it lists for on Amazon. It appears that Meade makes 2 versions of this model. One has the cheap, low quality lens that are .965 if I remember correctly. The good model comes with 1.25" eye pieces. Remember, its the eye pieces that you pay for. This is great for the beginner and intermediate astronomer. If you have any questions, you can email me....

I purchased this telescope 3 years ago for Christmas. I have had many memorable moments with this scope. The only problem with this product is getting parts when one gets broken. Very hard to get a hold of.

I have had my JBL Invaders for about a year now and I have experienced no difficulties with them at all. They handle high volumes very well. They give out great bass and some incredibly reaslistic highs. I use them for movies and Halo 2 and they really help with the surround. Easy setup also. Great if you can find for a good price. One drawback is that they don't give out good voice over volume. That doesn't detract from the overall sound unless you are an audiophile though.

Don't lose the cables, Horrible Customer Service.......2005-01-29

I've had my Invader speakers for a little over a year now and I absolutely love them. Unfortunately, I lost the AC Power Adapter and Audio Input Cable while moving into a new apartment. My first probelm was finding a phone number to call the manufacturer, instead I found an e-mail address. I got a response telling me which product #'s I needed to order as well as the order form. I sent it in and when I finally got the package in the mail it contained only the AC adapter, but it was for the wrong type of speakers. I found a phone number on the shipping package and told them they shipped me the wrong product. I asked to exchange the product and he said they don't sell those two products separately from the system and I would have to go to some other store and buy some generic product that's compatible with the speakers. The customer service was just horrible. The guy talked down to me and treated me like an idiot, then wondered why I was getting angry. After about 10 minutes he finally offered to refund my money. I am very disappointed with this whole expreience.

One of the best systems I've ever seen.......2005-01-20

I just got this system for Christmas a few weeks ago and I could not be more pleased with it. Not enough good things can be said about the subwoofer. It is nearly half the size of the subwoofer from my roommate's system, but it is just as loud, if not louder. It fits very comfortably and discreetly under any desk, but it is not so discreet once you begin playing your music. The treble/bass controls are on the face of the woofer and easy enough to control. Whereas the subwoofer is the key to the sound, the satellites complete the system with their amazing look. Sleek, silver, stylish, and space-age, they match my silver HP laptop perfectly, but still stand out in my room. They do a exceptional job of producing the mid to high range sounds. The volume control is conveniently located on the face of the right front satellite. There is more than enough wire on the rear speakers to position them farther away from your desk. Although this system has the need for 2 audio inputs (one for front and rear) from your computer, laptop users and desktop users with only one audio line-out port need not worry. The system includes a Y adapter which separates the audio from the single line-out/headphone into front and rear outputs. Setup is extremely easy, although I will say I had one issue in that I found the color coding for the inputs on the back of the subwoofer to be inane. Two of the colors, a light orange and tan looked similar under low lighting so I incorrectly plugged in those 2 some speakers and spent a while trying to figure out what was wrong.

Only cons are that there is no headphone jack on one of the satellites and that power switch should be anywhere but the back of the subwoofer.

Also, the price for the system tends to fluctuate on this site dramatically. I bought this system brand-new for $80 in early December '04, but now the price has risen nearly $60. If you're interested in this system, watch the price fluctuations.

Good Value.......2004-12-31

For the price I enjoy these speakers very much so. I use them on a PC despite JBL's association with Apple, but I found them very easy to set up and once set up they have a terrific sound, very clear and good bass response. I bought them mainly for the purpose of listening to my large music library and for that they have been wonderful.

I see the reviews where people had problems with these speakers and the lack of customer service, and maybe I was lucky, but I have not experienced any problems and I would recommend them to someone who wants good sound for their computer but is on a budget.

No customer service.......2004-02-09

The speakers stopped working after 4 months and then the customer service was terrible. I couldn't get a hold of anyone. Don't buy unless you want your speakers to break and then not have anyone help you!
