Product Description
The Diamond 8 series is the result of over three years intensive research and development into virtually every aspect of acoustic design. Firstly, the tweeter in all models is a 25mm textile dome, ferrofluid cooled unit powered with an ultra-strong neodymium magnet for the fastest, most accurate response International Audio Group has ever achieved. Next, the woofer cone is made from a bi-directional KEVLAR weave - self-damping in nature, reducing resonant frequencies to virtually negligible levels. The impetus for rapid movement here, is a dual layer, vented voice coil which transmits the signal information with the highest levels of accuracy. The cone is mounted on a nitrile rubber 'Flexaural surround rim'. A profiled phase plug improves the off-axis performance to project an excellent stereo image across a wide listening area. All the stereo models are front ported to enable positioning close to a back wall. Gold-plated bi-wire terminals are used for connection and you should take advantage of the increase in openness this offers, even if using an amplifier with single connections. The final test though, of any loudspeaker is not how much technology is used in the constituent parts, but how these react together to form a coherent package. It's more about the kind of music synergy that can be created between the various elements to ensure the overall result is much more than the sum of the parts. It is this elusive element, the 'musicality' that separates the Diamond 8 from all the competition and you will not believe the results.

Damn Fine Speakers.......2007-05-26
By all means, use quality gear to drive these speakers.. I've used Rotel, and Adcom amps as well as a Harman Kardon AVR-340 to drive both 8.1's and currently a pair of 8.2's They are sweet speakers.. Excellent sound stage, presence,. and wonderful imaging. The accurracy with quality Vs. Hype marketing amps is amazingly apparent. Positioning and accoustics will enhance their performance even more. They even have decent bass when set correctly using a good solid stand. I can almost relate the performance of the 8.1 or 8.2's in close comparison to Celestion Model 100's. Similar specs but the 100's are in a league of their own. For the price of either pair of the Wharf's make it a sure bargain for Hi End quality on a beer budget.
Wharfedale Diamond 8.1: Incredible value, but needs a great amp to shine.......2006-06-25
I've owned my Wharfedale Diamond Wharfedale 8.1s for over a year now. I previously had Polk Audio RTi4s and Klipsch SB1s which I thought were both excellent speakers (though very different in sound). I have a range of amplifiers and receivers and what I observed is that the Diamond 8.1 really needs a good amp to drive it or you get the "muddy" or "weak" sound other reviewers have complained of. Good amp doesn't mean "high watts" it means high current capability and amplifier stability across the entire frequency range. "Lesser" amps will have a hard time driving the Diamond 8.1s particularly as the speakers' impedance drops (from an already low 6 ohms) at the bass and lower mid-range frequencies, thus creating a really difficult load for most amps. What amazed me is how much better the Diamond 8.1s sounded with each increase in amplifier capability. The other speakers I have didn't reveal such improvements. This suggests the Diamond 8.1s are simply more transparent and revealing than my Polks and Klipsch speakers. This speaker features high-end drivers which may account for its performance. Wharfedale obviously cut costs on the veneer, grill, etc. to keep the price low.
Some tweaks that may help improve the sound of these speakers even further:
(1) Remove the plates which connect the biwired terminals together and replace with a short length of decent quality cable (I happen to use Monster cable which is also the internal wiring). This should improve all aspects of the sound immediately.
(2) Bi-wiring the speakers or bi-amping the speakers can improve the audio "soundstage", but really, the quality of the electronics driving the speakers is far more important.
Overall, I think this speaker is an incredible value, but needs a great amp driving it to shine. It's ironic that such inexpensive speakers really should not be paired with budget amps or receivers. I hope everyone who owns these speakers is able to get as much enjoyment from them as I do.
Stunning value!.......2006-01-29
Below is my review of the 8.1's slightly bigger brother, the 8.2s which have a little extra bass but otherwise are very similar to these 8.1s --- the 8.1s are often said to have a more musical and accurate woofer/tweeter balance though. If you have a good subwoofer the 8.1s might well be the better choice and are even more amazingly affordable.
========
For a long time I had a very low opinion of this speaker, having only heard at a friend's house who runs them off a very cheap Pioneer 414 receiver and has them positioned quite poorly. After discussing these speakers on an Internet audio forum (ecoustics dot com) I finally decided to borrow them from my friend for a week and hooked them up to my digital Panasonic sa-xr55 and then to my NAD separates.
VOILA!!! It was really like day and night compared to how they sounded in my friend's living room. Both my Panny and NAD are light years better than his one hundred thirty dollar Pioneer, and these Diamonds blossomed. Excellent imaging, warm lush midrange (vocals), solid bass, and nice big soundstage. In short, they had the presence of an entry-level floorstander but the midrange delicacy of a fine bookshelf speaker. The tweeter was not quite as precise as my Ascend Acoustics speakers' during treble peaks at high volumes (above 90db) but the Ascends are by far the best bang-for-your-buck audiophile speakers out there.
I suspect that a lot of the poor reviews around here came from people with similarly crappy receivers who are relatively new to audio and don't understand proper speaker placement and room acoustics. See, the Diamonds are 6 ohm impedance and low 86db sensitivity so they do need more high quality current than your typical 8 ohm, +90db mass-market speakers.
Note I did not say "watts per channel" since most manufacturers today hideously overinflate their RMS numbers especially for their cheap entry level models. (Harman Kardon, Marantz, and NAD are the most honest; Sony, Onkyo, and Yamaha are the least.)
Another key point is that like most audiophile speakers, these Wharfedales are not deliberately designed to accentuate the bass and treble while rolling off the midrange (the V-shaped equalizer curve commonly found in most kids' systems) like the kind of speakers commonly found in boomboxes and mini-stereos that are aimed at kids who usually listen to rock, rap, and dance music often in compressed MP3 formats or off FM radio. Audiophile speakers are aimed more at people who listen to jazz, classical, instrumental, or vocal-dominated music which all benefit from a more neutral frequency response and full-bodied midrange.
So if you're looking for speakers to blast AC/DC or Snoop Dog, I'd recommend JBL or Cerwin Vega instead. If not, these Wharfedales are an incredible steal at this price and should provide you with years of enjoyment. (You won't enjoy taking the grills on and off but very few people ever do that anyways, so relax.)
a little different, but very nice.......2004-12-25
I really like these little speakers. All wharfedale products I've ever owned have always been above par and always impressed anybody that heard them. After seeing bad reviews I was a little worried that they made a lemon, but the one thing that nobody mentions with these speakers is that there's a very long break in period. My old wharfedale atlantic 200's took about 100 hours to break in. After that the entire frequency range sounded much better, especially the midrange. I'm noticing the same thing with the diamond 8.1's. After 20 hours of hard use they've already been mistaken for the kenwood 15" floorstanders they're sitting on.
Wanna laugh?.......2004-04-08
Wanna laugh, try placing the Wharfedale Diamond speakers next to a set of Polk Audio RTI series speakers and then look and listen. The Polk Audio RTI series cost a little more, $259 for the RTI4 compared to $199 for the Wharfedale Diamond 8.1, so you might expect a little more to begin with, but the difference is like day and night. The British are known to have a strange sense of humor, but here with the UK Wharfedale brand, the joke is on us.
The Polk Audio series are simply elegant and have superb sound quality in comparison. The Wharfedale Diamonds sound OK, I guess, but they miss out in reproducing the entire sound range for which they are designed. I'm not talking just about the deeper bass, which both sets lack due their bookshelf size, but somewhere within the mid-range as well.
Where did all the rave reviews of the Wharfedale Diamond series come from? Not just those written by consumers, but those by professional reviewers as well. Even if you're on a budget, look and listen before believing that you're getting a good buy.

Customer Reviews:
JVC lost another round.......2004-01-01
I bought this JVP portable, basically because I wanted a good, name brand CD player and JVC seemed to be at the top of my thinking cap. I went to several places to look at CD portable players and for some reason, ended up at Sears (what a mistake) and purchased the JVC XLPV310 CD player for about $44.00, on sale. Took it out to my car, unpackaged it and hooked it up to play through my car cassette deck. The cassette adapter from JVC made several noises but played. The CD player would not play after loading a standard "pre-recorded" CD in the unit. Took it back in to Sears for an exchange, took 2 hours, then they gave me a new on just like the one I purchased earlier. Got it to the car and the CD would play in the unit, however, it made the worst noise as the CD played I have ever heard. Don't buy this one. It really stinks. Sound quality was poor at best and the earphones were a joke. Forget portable CD players and get an MP3 portable device that records and plays or get a MiniDisc portable recorder that records MP3's or standard MD's.
Already own JVC Products.......2001-11-26
I own a JVC CD PLayer that has been installed into every car I have owned (2) over the last 4 years. I LOVE IT!!! It has the antishock and I have to say I couldn't even tell you if it works b'cause I never had to use it, it's that GOOD. So, call me silly, but I am judging by my experience with this particular brand and it has been a GREAT experience. Therefore, I am buying this for my Mom, she has recently taken up Walking (for exercise)and this should make a GREAT christmas gift!!! Hope this helps all of you!!! Merry Christmas!!
not sure..........2001-08-29
Looks good from where I sit...not so sure tho. I've been reviewing several portable cd players today & this looks like a good buy (as far as price goes), but I've got no clue if the brand is a goody or not. Sure hope someone else writes a review, too. :)

Amazon.com Product Description
At the time of its release, this DVD ReWritable drive was the first to offer built-in analog video capture to help you quickly and easily transfer home video sources from tape (via camcorder or VCR) to DVD. This product has been factory refurbished by Hewlett-Packard to perform as if it were new; it comes with a 90-day limited warranty from HP.
The DVD Movie Writer DC3000 provides a full suite of software to enable video editing along with photo, music and data applications, and it lets you write and read CD-R and CD-RW discs as well as DVD+R/+RW. Preserve your family memories by transferring all your old VHS and other analog videotapes to DVD. HP created the DC3000 as a simple tool to convert videotapes by loading a full-featured DVD writer with the ability to perform analog-to-digital conversion and MPEG-2 video compression.
Connected with a desktop or notebook PC through either the USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port, the HP DVD Movie Writer transfers VHS or other analog tapes and creates digital negatives on long-lasting DVD+R/+RW discs. It can convert video from a variety of formats including VHS, Hi8, Digital 8, Mini DVD and BetaMax, as long as the appropriate format player connects to the Movie Writer. The DVD Movie Writer also functions as a standard DVD/CD writer to burn music, photos and data to CD and DVD backup program files.
After the analog tapes are converted by the Movie Writer to the digital MPEG-2 format--the same format all commercially available DVDs are written to--consumers can edit and share their DVD masterpieces with friends and family. And, users can get as detailed as they want in editing their DVDs. The DVD Movie Writer comes with a number of video-editing software packages, including a full-suite editing package, ArcSoft ShowBiz 2, and MuVee autoProducer, a quick and easy video editing software.
ArcSoft ShowBiz 2 lets you add or delete scenes, add music or special effects, or create slideshows set to music. Easy-to-use screens allow users to drag and drop video clips, digital photos and music files in either storyboard or simple timeline editing formats. MuVee autoProducer is a fun and easy editing software that quickly turns digital movies into music videos with a few clicks of a mouse.
The HP DVD Movie Writer also comes with software to help save data, video or music on DVDs and CDs, including Veritas RecordNow and Simple Backup. SimpleBackup reliably backs up, protects and restores individual files or folders or helps restore an entire PC hard drive. Additionally, Cyberlink PowerDVD software makes it easy to play DVD movies on a PC.
What's in the Box
A refurbished HP DVD Movie Writer DC3000 external USB DVD drive, a software CD (including an electronic user's guide and integrated install software), a quick-start placement, a getting-help guide, a How do I? guide, a USB cable, a composite-video/stereo analog audio cable, 1 blank DVD+RW disc, and 1 blank DVD+R 4x high-speed disc.
Customer Reviews:
HP dc3000 is a Great Coaster Maker.......2005-08-04
My first unit arrived nonfunctional. HP Customer Service quickly replaced it. (Thank you.) The second unit was installed May 2004 and has slowly failed more and more often to burn a disk with only moderate use. First every third dick failed. Then ever other disk failed. Then only CD-RW disks would burn. Now, NOTHING. I have tried four different brands of CD and DVD including HP. It fails between 5 and 55% of the burn by ejecting the disk saying there is an error on the disk. NUTS! HP customer service hid behind their expired warranty and wanted $140 for a replacement unit.
I am writing this only after giving HP a chance to give me a more satisfactory answer than to buy the same unit again. I believe they must have know there was a general problem considering all the negative reviews and the discontinuation of the Movie Writer line, (dc3000, dc4000, dc5000).
PS: Good luck on getting both an HP customer support person who can speak English and a proper phone connection. It took me four tries to understand the voice that was probably half a world away. I consider myself very able and willing to understand many dialects of English. The people I talked two were more related to the Muppets Swedish Chef than capable of the English language. The only native speaker I talked to was a person in "Presales"! HP bounced my call to Presales so they could pitch me to buy another one of their drives or an HP Medial Center computer. I never asked to talk to Presales. I wanted a technician. I got mumbled communications and a determined attitude to avoid HP in the future. Great printers but...
Thank you HP for making me a LiteOn buyer. Your poor product and terrible customer service sent me straight to your competition. I paid $75 for the most up-to-date DVD Burner rather than the $140 for another copy of your failed product. I can do the video capture with my video card.
Great device.......2004-12-24
My dell dimension 8200 immediately recognized it after i installed the software. More software documentation would be helpful, Had an issue with the analog to digital converter and my computer not recognizing it, however tech support did help me out with the problem. Would have given it 5 stars if the process for creating and burning slideshows was faster.
Never got it working.......2004-12-16
Even with support from HP, I never could get this thing to work. Waste of money. Get the Sony DVDirect.

Product Description
The Kodak EZ200 Digital Camera is an exciting way to get started with digital photography. This small, affordable, easy-to-use camera lets you take still pictures and videos and transfer them right to your computer for viewing and sharing. The EZ200 camera does not store pictures on a memory card; instead, the camera comes with 4 MB of internal memory for still or video picture taking, powered by 4 AAA batteries when used away from the computer or by USB connection use while connected to the computer. With its pocket-perfect design, you can take the EZ200 anywhere and snap spontaneous shots easily - just point and shoot. Create short video clips, too. Then e-mail your memories with ease. The EZ200 is also a USB-connected webcam, so you can make live video calls or create personalized video with audio. Its burst mode lets you grab action sequences. And the USB port and Kodak Software make it easy to connect to your computer. With the EZ200, you won't miss a moment. The EZ200 delivers VGA quality that makes pictures perfect for e-mailing, posting on websites, and printing. And its internal memory makes it easy to capture and store up to 128 pictures.

Customer Reviews:
I am sorry.......2000-01-10
The other review was also writen by me. I wrote it before buying the product. Now that I have the pad, I learned it is really bad. It is just like a mouse pad but is long.
The cool key pad.......1999-12-23
This is an OK pad. It is a little exspensive, but it is still a good bargain. When you type for long hours the pad helps your finger relax.
