No Problems... but...the cost of cartridges!!.......2007-09-21

I have two of these: One at work, one at home. I've had both for well over a year and a half. Mechanically, and functionally, they have performed great. In fact, I would say that you can't get much better value for what the printer delivers. It has consistently produced some fairly decent quality documents.

However........the cost of the toner cartridges is pretty astounding. I don't think there's much variance between different manufacturers for this, but, you easily pay more for the ink than you do for the printer. My recommendation would be, if you're in the market for a COLOR laser printer, by all means look at the quality of output, speed, etc... but, be sure to factor in the cost of the toner cartridges for that particular printer.

USB interface killed Ethernet port.......2007-09-08

I migh have a defective printer but this is what I encountered. I want 2 computers to share this printer. I connected one PC via the Ethernet port, everything printed good. I than connected second PC on the USB port, everthing worked great. But the first PC can no longer print to the printer on the Ethernet port. The printer didn't even appear on the DHCP list. It just seem using the USB port would disable the Ethernet port forgood. Emailed to HP about this, no reply yet. Has anyone else had this problem?

Really Good Customer Service.......2007-09-07

I purchased this printer because they have one at the school I work at and It works very well for them.
I ordered it and it came quickly. It was very easy to set up and it interfaced with my programs with no problems BUT everything that was printing was missing a strip of blue. Something green would come out with a one inch wide vertical stripe down it. I suspected a faulty blue cartridge. I called customer service and they were there and very helpful. we went through some tests on the printer and form the results they suspected it may be the printer. So they sent a new printer and I sent back the old (new one). I put the blue cartridge from the first printer in the second printer and the second printer had the same problem; I put the new blue cartridge in the new printer and it works fine. So the conclusion is that all I really needed was a new blue cartridge. Go figure.
My only complaint is that the customer service people had foreign accents that made it hard to understand. BUT they were very patient and accomodating

I can't complain--since receiving the product listed, we have used it a few times. The doctors we purchased it for have been very pleased with the (patient) image results and have even gone so far as to use some of the printed images in their marketing.So far it has proven very worthwhile.

Excellent Printer and Value for Home or Small Office.......2007-06-18

I bought the non-network version of this printer for my law office last January (2007) to use as my personal printer for e-mails and documents under 30 pages. I was a little nervous, based on some of the negative reviews here, but this printer has performed like a champ. Pages come out of this printer about as rapidly as any I've ever used (even "byte-intensive" PDFs and TIFFs), the print quality is excellent for text and graphics, the footprint is nicely compact, the controls are easy and intuitive, and the printer manager software that comes with it (where you can see how much ink you've got left in your cartridge, how many pages you've printed with the cartridge, etc.)is handy and helpful. The "starter" cartridge that came with the printer said it would print only about 1,000 pages. Wrong: I got almost 2,500 clear, crisp pages. I now use recycled/reloaded cartridges now at about $110 bucks a pop, and I got months of daily use out the first one of these I used when I replaced the "starter". Manual feed is not as precise as I'd like, but it's more than acceptable. The light grey/dark grey color scheme makes it attractive and professional for an office. And it's relatively quiet. It does the job for me very nicely.

Mediocre at best.......2007-04-14

Okay for printing on 8.5 x 11 paper. Standard input tray does not work for paper narrower than 8.75 inches wide. Paper guides on multipurpose input slot do not stay put, making it very difficult to print straight on other sizes of paper.

A Great Desktop Laserjet Printer.......2007-02-11

For many years I have used the HP Laserjet 4 and loved it . . . and still do. But it does not have USB connectivity so I had to shop for another HP laserjet to hook up to my new iMac 24 desktop computer which doesn't come with a parallel port, only USB ports. It's a great printer and you can operate it in highest resolution 1200 dpi or save money and get nearly as good results at 600 dpi in economy mode, which I do and love. Resolution and performance is as good as the most expensive Laserjets and it handles the trays and single-sheet feeding perfectly. Shop for aftermarket cartridge replacements online when the time comes. Really, this is a fantastic printer and I'm super picky and demanding! I like my printed documents to be perfect, and with the 1320 you get perfection at an affordable price. HP puts out 1st class Laserjets that don't breat down and have problems so I highly recommend the 1320. I got mine through Amazon and couldn't be more satisfied.

Very pleased with product........2007-02-08

When I first received the printer I had realized that I ordered the wrong one. I wanted a color printer not a black and white printer. So after several phone calls and emails to the company that shipped it about a receipt,manual and how to exchange it for what I really wanted all of which was to no avail. I decided to try the printer out and to make a long story short I really did not needed a color printer so I decided to keep it and glad I did. The quality of print is very good Would like to know how to print post cards and such but I will figure it out.

very disappointing printer.......2007-02-03

I do a reasonable amount of bypass printing -- checks, paper in different colors, envelopes. I should've read the "weak manual feed" reviews more carefully before buying this thing, but I was dazzled by the reasonably fast speed & dual-sided printing ability.

I'm having the same problems as many others with the manual feed. Of every 10 envelopes I have to reprint 4, and roughly half the full size sheets print crooked or get wrinkled. This is not a high success rate. Yes, I follow the manual's directions, and still get these abysmal results. "Cantankerous" is the kindest adjective I can apply to the manual feed. And unlike other models the manual feed is only good for one sheet at a time printing, no stacking possible.

And what genius decided to design the rear straight-through output door so that somebody has to stand there and catch the output (unless you want to double the footprint & put a tray behind the printer)? Other models have the door angled so the output stacks.

At least I didn't pay full price for this printer, got it on sale. Wouldn't pay more than $130 for it, though, knowing what I do now. Looks like I can't retire my old 2100 yet.

This really seems to be an inherent problem. I have two LJ 1300s in business use. One is still fine, on the other the fuser film has ripped after around 3 years moderate business use (symptoms exactly as described by previous users). Up until then good results, fairly quick and very quiet in standby.

I had a HP laser I bought new in 1992 that lasted 13 years under home use. I bought a 1300n and it has lasted 18 months under very moderate home use. I turned it on one day and CLACK CLACK CLACK , very loud. Sounds like the problem described elsewhere. Service cost is ridiculous. I would expect better from HP. In anycase, I am not happy, and won't buy another HP.

Paper Jams and Crackling.......2006-05-20

Yup, the other reviewers have it right. Eighteen months-two years, wonderful printer, then CRUNCH, the paper begins to crinkle, the printer beings to crackle, and you're looking at either a big repair bill ($80 an hour in my area) or a new printer. Ouch!

Fuser film sleeve problems within a couple of years.......2006-05-03

I administer around 40 1300n printers and most of them are doing okay after 15 months worth of use but I have noticed several starting to have problems with the fuser film sleeve coming apart inside. At first you start hearing a noise as the sleeve revolves around with the part that is flaking off making noise with every spin. And from what I understand, this is not something very easy to replace by yourself.

I came online just to check prices for this printer, since mine just flamed out and I wanted to see how much I'd originally spent on it. I was startled to see other reviews detailing *exactly* what happened to my 1300... steaming along just fine until about year 2, then paper jams, crackling noises, shredded rollers and the works.

The printer worked like a champ for as long as it lasted, but once the crackling sound hits, as mentioned in another review, it's time for a new printer.

Superior value.......2004-09-08

Although HP LaserJet 13X (Q2613X) costs about 20% more than LaserJet 13A (Q2613A), it is a superior buy for a number of reasons. Topping the list is lower cost per page. 13X can print 4000 pages at 5% page coverage (ISO/IEC 19752 standard) whereas 13A can print 2500 pages. That's 37.5% difference in page yield. Divide up the toner price against 4000 (e.g., 91.99 / 4000 = 2.3 cents) to get cost per page.

Secondly, laser toners last a long time whether you print few times a month or dozens of pages a day (they don't dry out). And finally, higher page yield means fewer toner replacement.

My only complaint with 13X (and that goes to 13A as well) is that page yield cost with some competing printers and higher-end HP LaserJets is even less.

HP LaserJet 13A (Q2613A) is one of two toners designed for HP LaserJet 1300-series. Although you can get a cheaper toner from 3rd party, doing so may void warranty and may even damage your printer. I can certainly understand the temptation though. The 13A is rated for 2500 pages (at 5% page coverage), which translates to higher than average printing cost.

If you want better value, I suggest HP LaserJet 13X (Q2613X). While it costs about 20% more, it prints 37.5% more (4000 pages).
