Product Description
SuperSampler is the Queen of all multi-lensed cameras. Four highly light-sensitive and precision Japanese panoramic lenses capture four sequential panoramic shots on a single photo. The patented rip-cord advance ensures that you are ever-ready for action. Normal film, normal processing, no batteries.Amazon.com Product Description
The Lomographic SuperSampler blue camera is a truly original and exciting addition to the world of Lomography. Something of an improvement over the ActionSampler and CyberSampler 2.0, the SuperSampler uses a unique pull-cord film advance mechanism and incorporates four lenses in a panoramic format to capture four shots per frame, each just a fraction of a second apart. The end result is four long images stacked on top of each other that show the sequence of motion. This gives you something akin to panoramic "movie stills" that can even be scanned and animated into a mini four-frame movie on your computer. (Click on the "See more pictures" link at the top of this page to see sample photos that were taken with the SuperSampler.)Brought to you by the same Lomographic Society folks who introduced the free world to the famed Lomo Kompakt Automat camera, the SuperSampler shares the original Lomo's wacky, creative image--as evidenced in the colorful, photo-filled booklet that comes with the camera. The SuperSampler is also a study in styling with its unique pull-string design and ice blue color. It doesn't have a flash and sports only a small removable square to frame your photos. "Shoot from the hip" is the driving philosophy behind the Lomographic Society.
Everything with this camera is manual, including film loading, winding, and rewinding. The lens is fixed focus. However, the SuperSampler does offer two speeds--standard and high speed (four photos in 2 seconds in standard mode; four photos in 0.2 seconds in high-speed mode). And, although this multiple-image format works best for action shots, it can turn any subject into a creative, interesting slice of life.
Since there is no built-in flash; the best results occur under bright lighting conditions. It comes with a six-month warranty--Lomo will replace the camera free of charge if anything goes wrong with it during that time period. Included in the box are the camera, a SuperSampler booklet, and one roll of 24-exposure ASA 200 35mm film.

get more action!.......2004-03-10
Don't expect it to take ordinary pictures, don't demand every photograph to be perfect. To get the best idea of what this camera is all about, visit the manufacturer's website because they have minisites for each of their products).
I got one of these supersamplers a few months back. Yes, you do need lots of light. Yes, you should take care not to pull the cord too hard (if it feels like it's jammed, you're probably just out of film).
You should also make sure to catch (people in) action or create actions yourself. Step closer to your subject while shooting the picture, have someone twist around for you, turn your wrist so the camera itself turns around while shooting, ... experiment!!
And that's the fun! Your interaction with others, their reactinos when they see the pictures, and just the tiny movement of pressing that button...
Not what I was hoping for.......2004-03-02

spectacular action shots.......2002-08-28
Only gripe is my hands are not fast enough - the ripcord action can be a bit of a nuisance if you've lost a shot by forgetting to pull it again after a quick snap. The camera changed between four people, and with a variety of poses, heights, with and without the funky viewfinder, managed to capture moments on film that would otherwise have been lost to still, posed photos. Things like water splashing, jumping, swinging all captured very easily even without the viewfinder, and from the hip (or belly).
the good and the bads.......2002-05-15
good:
takes great pictures
looks sleek
easy to rewind
fun to use
bad:
hard to use when first using
no real viewfinder (mine broke off)
feels like a kiddy cam
Junk.......2002-04-09
5 stars for fun but...........2001-12-14
Use 800 ASA. There's no flash.
It works best in bright daylight with the 800 ASA.
Other film speeds work but the higher the speed, the more consistent your results will be.
It probably leaks light. Try one roll of 12 exposures to find out. If it leaks, tape it up with duct tape when you use it.
If it lasts a year, you're lucky!
Have fun with it!
Great Fun ----Read on,.......2001-09-02

Legendary in the industry, the rangefinder camera has been used by many of the world's greatest photographers. In keeping with that unique heritage, Epson designed the Epson R-D1 to offer all the creative possibilities of digital technology, while maintaining the precision engineering of a traditional rangefinder camera. With Epson's superior image processing, this camera makes it easy to capture every scene with remarkable clarity. Yet, it boasts the precision mechanics of the past, including an intuitive 1.x viewfinder. And, it supports over 200 L/M-mount lenses. Now, contemporary photographers can resurrect treasured lenses and use them in a digital format. This 6.1 megapixel camera offers the best of both worlds - advanced technology and timeless tradition.Amazon.com Product Description
Epson's R-D1 digital camera harkens back to the classic rangefinder cameras of old. A rangefinder is a type of camera that has a built-in device for measuring distance based on the principles of triangulation. Built in collaboration with Cosina, known worldwide for its optical technologies, the classically styled R-D1 offers a 6.1 megapixel resolution, support for over 200 vintage and contemporary L/M-mount lenses, 2-inch flip-out LCD monitor, hot shoe for external flash, and a 1.x viewfinder that provides automatic parallax correction. The R-D1's 6.1-megapixel APS-C sized CCD (23.7mm x 15.6mm) captures images in two sizes: 3008 x 2000 and 2240 x 1488. It records images to either JPEG or 12-bit CCD-RAW. It features aperture priority and manual exposure modes, a shutter speed range of 1 to 1/2000 seconds, and exposure compensation of +/- 2.0 EV in 0.3 EV steps.
The R-D1 uses the world's first 1x viewfinder, enabling you to view scenes--including panoramas--through the camera as if they were looking at scenes using their naked eyes. The camera also has the advantage of improved focus precision compared to low magnification optical finders. The 2-inch flip-out-and-twist LCD has a 235K pixel resolution and features buttons for the camera's digital controls.
Other features include:
The R-D1 is powered by a proprietary rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It measures 5.59 x 3.48 x 1.56 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 1.24 pounds without battery and memory card.
The Rangefinder
The rangefinder type camera has been used by many of the world's greatest photographers, from photo journalists to professional portrait photographers. In keeping with that unique heritage, Epson designed the Epson R-D1 to offer all the creative possibilities of digital technology, while maintaining the precision engineering of a traditional rangefinder camera. The camera is focused by superimposing two slightly different views of a scene with the rangefinder. In general, compared to an auto-focus system, performance does not change even if lenses are swapped, and focus can be achieved quickly, accurately and with a light level that is nearly the same as the unaided eye, even in dimly lit locations. In addition, since the field of view is not blocked by the action of a shutter as it is with a single-lens reflex camera, you won't miss an important photographic moment.
What's in the Box
This package contains the Epson R-D1 digital camera, Lithium-ion rechargeable battery and battery charger, body cap, neck strap, printed user's guide, CD-ROM with drivers and software, and a tutorial on DVD-ROM.
