After my drive died after 6 months I looked on some news groups to find lots of other people have had the same problem. I didn't replace this drive as I was worried it would just fail again.

Note An Electronics fan is artifically making this hard drive get higher ratings than it should.

Don't waste your money on this drive.

I rated it 1* only because there is no 0*.

I have had 5 of these IBM drives, and I have had all 5 crash. YES 5. I have been using computers for 15 years and have never crashed a drive until these pieces of garbage. If you are using a "DEATHSTAR" right now, it will crash... Maybe not today, or maybe not tomorrow... but eventually it will crash. There are class action lawsuits all over the place on these duds. Please see...If you are thinking of getting one, DON'T. If you have one, GET RID OF IT. DO IT NOW!

Bad Drive with grinding sounds when it's failing........2002-03-06

I bought this drive because it was the fastest (and practically still is), not realizing that it's reliability is very poor. I had the drive 6 months when I hear grinding noises on the drive from corrupt data. I called IBM and they said I had to write 0's to the drive and reformat and re-stinall everything. Did that and 3 months later.....the same thing. IBM told me I had to disable write caching, which they even said was necessary for doing video editing, which I was doing. The tech was so concerned about getting me off the phone that he was talking in circles. Write 0's - reformat - reinstall again. 1 month later, the next tech said I had to put in a patch from Microsoft (which Microsoft does NOT post on their website for public download) and said it was a problem with their OS and all the other hard drive manufacturers had the same problem. Wrong again. 5 days later, same grinding noise. Called IBM AGAIN and they gave me a firmware update for the drive. Write 0's - reformat - reinstall again. They simply will not replace the drive. I've installed the firmware and haven't had any problems in the last month that I've been using it, but I make backups continuously as I have no faith in the drive. Please, stay away from this drive. It's prone to failure (as noted in the class-action lawsuit against them), and their support is the worst I've seen in the industry.

Lousy.......2002-02-22

This is the worst hard drive I've ever owned. The first one failed horribly. IBM after TWO MONTHS sends me a new one. Now it sounds like a loud electric shaver and is possibly on its last legs. Friends of mine have also had this drive fail on them twice. IBM even sent them one that didn't even work out of the box. Avoid this hard drive like the plague. They have quit making it for a reason. Get a 40gb or 60gb instead. They actually work. Too bad you can't give 0 stars. :(

bought one in feb 2000.......2002-01-26

I spend way to much time on the computer and this hard drive has worked flawlesly. The only trouble that I have is windows ME likes to make the disk smaller everytime I format. Easily fixed with the disk manager from the IBM website. Got me all fixed up, its actually 46.2 gigs by the way.

It's fast!!!!.......2001-02-07

I bought this CF card to replace my SanDisk 64MB CF card. I had heard about Lexar's reputation as making one of the fastest CF cards out there and thought I'd try it despite the price premium. Some digital camera users have said that the digital camera can only take advantage of Lexar's USB capability if it knows about it (i.e. it was programmed into the firmware/hardware to support the speed optimization). I received the card and proceeded to compare my SanDisk 64MB card with the Lexar one.

To do the informal test, I snapped an uncompressed TIF at 1600x1280 using my Nikon Coolpix 950 (a camera that supposedly is *not* optimized for Lexar media). With the SanDisk card, it took approx 45 seconds between snapping the shot and being able to use the camera again (it's loading to the media). With the Lexar card, it was reduced to 25 seconds!!! THAT'S FAST! ...and for an unoptimized camera as well.

I currently use the card either in the camera, my Compaq iPaq PDA, or in a PCMCIA slot via an adapter. I haven't used the JumpShot cable yet as I only have Win95 or WinNT installed. That will changed in a few weeks when I migrate to Win2000, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

As another test, I copied 60MB of mp3s from my laptop to the SanDisk and the same 60MB of data to the Lexar. The Lexar was by far much faster.

Great Compactflash card.......2001-01-22

I bought a 128mb card and am very happy with it. It's very nice and fast. It does cost more than some on the open market, but that's ok. It has a 5 year warranty, which isn't as long as I would like, but it's been my experience that in electronics if you are going to have a failure in workmanship you will usually find out about it early on. 5 years is acceptable.

As far as speed of the card I find it quite acceptable also. I have seen speed test of other cards and the usb enabled cards are much faster with my camera (nikon 990) if your camera doesn't support usb enabled code. Then I wouldn't bother spending the extra money that it costs. But at the time I bought my card I got it with a rebate and it was just a bit more than the others on the market.

As for the jumpshot cable, it will only work with compact flash cards that are usb enabled. I don't know of any other cards besides Lexar that have this yet.

Fast, portable memory card.......2000-12-17

The Lexar 128MB USB-enabled compact flash card is really great for my 3 mega-pixel camera. Its capacity is relatively large, and it is faster by far than the earlier cards I had. Further, the Jumpshot reader is so compact that it is easy to carry around in the camera bag, and then it's a quick moment to download the pictures to any USB-equipped computer. It is a little pricey, and it's true that most cards don't work with the Jumpshot cable because they are not USB-enabled--but for me it's a great product that I use almost every day.

Best Value I Found For My $$$........2003-07-14

This is the best LCD monitor I've tried out yet after experimenting with a couple of Samsung 17" LCD monitors and spending hours at the store checking out LCD technology.
The best feature hands down is the 16ms response time, or redraw rate. Currently most LCD monitors have an average response time of 25ms and this caused terrible eye-strain especially while browsing the web or when windows are popping up on the screen.
With this Hitachi monitor, I enjoy crisp, flicker-free images and bye-bye to tired eyes. Games take on a whole new dimension with great images - I've tried Thief, Pharaoh, Shogun Warlord to name a few and they look spectacular. I've been told that the 16ms also makes fast-shooter games more playable on an LCD though I havent experimented with those.

When I first installed the monitor the color tones were too warm (too much red) but that was easily remedied with the flexible menu options which allows the user to adjust color temperature, phase and sharpness. There were no dead pixels whatsoever and drivers plus hardware installed in a snap. Asthetically the monitor is simply designed, with the ability to wall mount and comes with DVI/analog connections, and speakers. I'm pretty happy with the ranges in the contrast, viewing angle, and brightness of this monitor. Probably the biggest gripe would be the inability to adjust the height of this LCD, but that is just a minor issue to me considering that the response time of this monitor makes viewing such a pleasure.

I love this monitor and highly recommend it.
