Design
The VGA1000's handsome clamshell form factor houses an internal 128 x 160, 65,000-color display. There's also a supplementary color display on the front panel of the device that displays call information, battery life, time of day, signal strength and more. An extendable antenna is located on the top right side of the phone, and the camera and flash unit are placed on the rear of the device. Meanwhile, most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button above the handset's dial pad. A 2.5mm headset jack is also provided.

Calling Features
The phone's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 300 entries, each storing six numbers, with a total capacity for 300 numbers and 300 email and Web addresses. You can customize your caller ID by linking a photo to a specific phone number in your contact list. In addition to a vibrate mode, the phone allows you to choose from a number of polyphonic ringtones that make your received calls all the more exciting. The VGA1000's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911 (where available). Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the VGA1000 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Sprint's digital PCS network, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

Another key calling feature of the VGA1000 is its enhanced voice recognition capabilities. The system allows you to speak numbers digit by digit or speak the name of anyone in your phonebook. Voice features are speaker-independent, so there's no need to train the phone to respond to any one person's voice.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
If you need basic messaging capabilities, the VGA1000 has you covered as support is built-in for sending and receiving SMS text messages (Sprint PCS text messaging charges apply). T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for text messaging users.

The phone also supports PCS Vision email and instant messaging capabilities. Sprint PCS Vision transforms the wireless experience from something that's simply functional into something visual, entertaining and highly personalized. MSN Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL Instant Messenger are all supported by Sprint's PCS Vision service. PCS Vision mobile Web services let you check out sports scores, get your seven-day forecast, check your flight status, and stay up to date with the latest news. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the VGA1000 including a calendar, a calculator, an alarm clock and a to-do list. A voice recorder lets you record memos for later retrieval.

Imaging and Entertainment
With its robust set of camera functions, the VGA1000 shines in the imaging department. The VGA-quality (640x480) digital camera lets you take, view, store and send pictures wirelessly in full color. You can also control brightness levels, white balance and color tone to get the image and effects you want. Other features include a self-timer for group shots, built-in fun frames to decorate your images, a multi-shot function for action sequences, and a self-portrait mode for special moments. Capture pictures in high, medium or low resolution and digitally zoom in up to 4 times. As mentioned, there's also a flash for low-light situations.

The VGA1000 lets you choose from a variety of pre-set images to customize your main and external displays and make them unique to you. With PCS Vision service, you can download games like Tetris and Pac-Man, as well as additional ringers, screensavers and backgrounds. You can even turn your phone into a gaming device with an optional, attachable game pad that makes it fun and easy to navigate when playing complex, fast-paced games on your phone.

I've had this phone since Christmas 2004 and I'd say that it's a good phone. I have this phone by Sprint Phone Service, and have been using that company for about 5 years. Easy to store numbers, text message, internet, you know, the whole nine yards, and that made me happy. What I liked about the phone is that if you took a picture of someone, you can store it in the phone in a way so that if he or she calls, their picture will pop up. Also the battery is good and last longer than usual, which I also like. The camera is pretty decent. I don't expect no high quality mega-pixel camera, but just something to take pictures with, and it works okay. It comes with features like flash, and a way to change the color of your photos.

After a while, problems will appear though. One of the problems that I had was that when I dial, there would be a message that says "SVC CANNOT BE USED CURRENTLY", and thats when I'm outside. Second, the reception would suck for some reason. If you're in a big building (such as a Wal Mart or something) you cannot get service. I'm not sure if thats every phone, but it happens to my phone.

Now a few big problems that I have with my phone is, first, for some reason when someone calls and leaves a message, the phone doesn't notify that I received it for about 2 hours (or more, the longest was 6). I really can't say if thats the phone's fauly, or the phone company's, but it annoys me. It's not that bad, because it only happens maybe one out of every 30 or so calls I receive and someone leaves a message. Second, the phone will turn off for no apparent reason, on it's own. No it's not the battery, because it is fully charged. That annoys the hell out of me, because sometimes I am expecting a call and can't receive it becasue my phone is turned off. Also the internet is kind of slow. And when you sometimes send a text message, it won't send, causing your message that you put together to be lost.

Also when you're using the voice activation system, you need to be patient, because it sometimes doesn't understand what you're saying.

Other than that, It's a good phone. Like I said, I had it for about two years, and it's still holding up nicely. I highly recommend that you buy a case for ANY phone you purchase. If you're as clumsy as I am, you will need it.

When I first bought this phone I was truely in love with it and its price. It has a great body and wonderful capabilities. I did not like the fact that it didnt have a speakerphone, but i could live with that.

I used it quite often (any phone i get has to be durable)and after a year the phone began to split in half. I could hear callers talking on the phone but they couldnt hear me at times. I constantly lost signals and the face plate became flaky. Buttons began to fall off. The camera quality became very poor.
I was very difficult for me to log on to the web. Sometimes if i had my phone on the ringer it would still vibrate instead of ring. It got to the point to where my phone would not charge. The phone would literally jump back to the screensaver when i would be glancing at the phone book or some other feature. The battery life is fine as long as you dont use it.

Dont get me wrong the phone was great while it lasted. and if you notice most of the good comments about this phone was when it first come out. However, after you've had it a year or more the phone is worthless.

The reasons Why Sprint Nextel are the best!.......2005-12-19

Sprint in my opinion the best wireless carrier out their. It is odd that they merged with Nextel, because they are my second favorite.

Sprint's native network reaches over 250 Million POP. That, with the roaming, their network reaches 290(Digital only phones) or 295(Digital and analog phones) people. that makes it the largest Wireless network in the USA.
You get to roam on Verizon's, ALLTEL's, ect networks for free as well.
Sprint only offers Unlimited data plans. They offer them for both their Visions and Power Visions access. Prices range from $10 to $25. $25 being the Unlimited Power Visions (EV-DO) access with all of the Sprint TV channels and some Sirius satellite radio, along with other streaming radio channels. Other content can be added, but you would need to check the list. They are always adding new things.
Sprint is the only carrier that will let you use your Smart-Device like a Treo 650 with the unlimited Handset data plans. So with Sprint you can use the Unlimited Data on your Treo 650 for $10 a month. Both Verizon and Cingular charge $45 a month for this. T-Mobile $20.
They also allow their customers to use their phones as modems, with moderate use. Other carriers either do not have this feature, or have it shut off.
Sprint has also added Free Incoming plans to their Fair & Flexible plans. These are plans that keep adding new minutes to your plan, as you go over your bucket.
this keeps you from paying 45 to 60 cents a minute in overages. Also keep in mind that other carriers charge roaming and long distance fee's on top of the overage fees. So you can be paying into the $2 dollar a minute range for going over your plan minutes. T-Mobile USA is notorious for this. You pay a fee for the overage minutes, a fee for the long distance, and a fee if roaming. T-Mobile USA's network is pretty small, so you could roaming easily.

Another thought to throw around. Is Sprint uses 1900MHz signals for their CDMA/EV-DO coverage. They are also building out their 800MHz coverage with the licenses acquired from Nextel. Since 1900MHz needs more towers to cover a given area, this allows your phone to have more tower choices to choose from.
This also increases Internet speeds, because speeds drop with distance.
So I have found Sprint's data speeds to be faster then Verizon's. And Much faster then Cingular's and T-Mobile's Internet speeds.

Sprint also uses Lockline for their replacement insurance provider. They cover Any phone on your account, purchased from Anywhere, no matter if it is New or Used. Other carriers insurance providers only cover new phones purchased from the carrier.

I could go on and on, but just take this into consideration before choosing another carrier just based on a commercial. Or the bucket of minutes they "Claim" they are going to provide you. Minutes don't mean a thing if the network is not dependable and the calls sound like crap.

Also keep in mind that Sprint uses CDMA, which is the same network technology Verizon uses. CDMA is the most efficient network technology.

I have had this phone for almost 2 years. I am not very impressed. The coverage for the phone is horrible. The phone switches from analog and digital roam constantly. If I wanted to pay too much for service this would be the phone to use.

We bought these so we could keep in contact with our kids at the greenbelt just down the street from our house. They worked great and the sound quality was good. Our only problem was my kids were there when the sprinklers came on, so they were playing in them. You guessed it, the unit was pretty soaked, so we let it dry out but it still doesn't work. The next pair I look for will be water resistant.

I had to return a set because one radio display was bad. The replacement set has one radio that doesn't display the transmit and receive signal indicators. I kept this pair because of the range and price but quality control of the display could be better.

This is a very good product, but not a cool design. This is my opinion though. If you like yellow then this is the product for you! The range is good, the quality is good, but the style is not for me. Maybe for you but not for me.

This little T.V. does everything it says it does .I recieved 6 channels right out of the box .Great for camping trips and power outages.

Perfect for Florida hurricane season.......2005-12-01

I wanted an ultra- cheap battery operated tv for blackouts during Florida's delightful hurricane season (if you are thinking of moving to Florida, forget it, unless the idea of living for weeks without electricity, not being able to afford home insurance, paying California prices for houses the size of bungalows, and dealing with loads of transient people with shady pasts appeals to your sense of adventure). It takes 8 C batteries and works just fine. It lasts about 16 hours on 8 batteries so stock up. It made the weeks without electricity more manageable. I also advise you to get lots of battery operated lanterns, headphones to block out the deafening sound of backyard generators, and a gun to protect yourself. Welcome to Florida!

I bought my cheap little Chinese made jWIN Mini TV/Radio at a base exhange for $14.95 because I could not believe the price. From the exterior look of the unit, it appears to be a clone of the Memorex that costs twice as much. It performs as advertised although the manual tuner is a bit hard to read and it is badly engineered so it's impossible to get some stations at the end of the bands. If you can get it for a price in the teen$ then go for it.

Excellent Product!!.......2003-08-28

I received this drive in 1 day after purchase! The I/O magic drive is used externally with my IBM thinkpad A20M, 700 Mhz,with Windows 98ME, and it works flawlessly. There were no errors, comflicts, or other problems. In my view, the trick to installing the drive is to utilize the NERO software. As I read the prior review, I would suggest that the set up wizard instructions in the users manual be skipped. Install the driver, but then go to the NERO software installation procedure, and you're ready to go! In fact, I started copying the supplied CD-RW disk within 15 minutes after opening the box! I am very satisfied with this product,and its gets 5 stars...

Stay away from this CD-RW.......2002-12-06

If I could give this CD-RW zero stars I could. The editorial review says plug-n-play and you're all set. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I installed this CD-RW through the USB 1.1 port on my T20 IBM Thinkpad (PIII 700MHz, 128RAM, Win2k). Right from the get go it wouldn't work.

1) You can't see roughly 95% of the files on exisitng data CD-RW's.

2) When writing files to CD-RW it wrote a strange accompanying file in the same folder for each data file. When opened with WordPad, the new file contains thousands of Chinese characters (no kidding, Chinese! Not those funny Windows characters but real Chinese).

3) All formatting of CD-RW's fails within one minute.

4) 50% of the time you can't even eject your CD's with the eject button. Even when the drive is not reading or writing and "ready" light is on, the open/close button simply does nothing. You have to turn the drive off and reboot just to get your CD out.

I checked the I/O Magic website and it is cluttered with message boards complaining about all kinds of other weird problems with I/O magic optical products. The comments on technical support are no better.

Don't waste your money. Look somewhere else for your CD-RW solution.
