Amazon.com Product Description
The easy-to-use HP m7750n Media Center PC is the complete home PC system that delivers more entertainment choices, and brings them together in one place with easy access from anywhere in the room. You can watch, record, and pause live TV programming as well as schedule the PC to record upcoming episodes or entire series. The built-in TV tuner (providing both standard NTSC and high-def ATSC transmission) and personal video recorder (PVR) let you watch, pause, rewind, and record live television--up to 240 hours on this 400 GB hard drive. An online Electronic Program Guide (EPG) lets you review the TV schedule and select individual episodes or entire series, so you can watch your favorite shows on your own time, at your own convenience. And you can easily burn TV shows and home video to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format LightScribe DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc. LightScribe technology burns custom, silkscreen-quality labels and artwork directly onto LightScribe-enabled discs, right inside the drive.
This desktop is powered by the 2.6 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. A built-in drive bay fits an optional HP Personal Media Drive (PMD), for up to 500 GB of additional storage that you can carry away with you when you go (PMD not included). It also features 2 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE video card (with up to 256 MB of shared video memory), 15-in-1 memory card reader, up to 8 channels of surround sound output, and a remote control with up to 16 feet of range.
This desktop also comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Business, which has a new user interface, named Windows Aero, that makes it easy to navigate through the operating system and from application to application. For instance, Windows Aero helps you juggle multiple tasks at once by providing a three-dimensional, real-time, animated view of all your open applications and documents. Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 5000+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It outperforms the highest-performing AMD Athlon 64 4000+ single-core processor on multi-tasking benchmarks by up to 30 percent. Dual-core technology is like having two processors working together, each one taking care of different applications, so power-users actually experience greater performance when multiple applications are running. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements while simultaneously working in high-definition video and photo editing and audio mixing programs. It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Enhanced Virus Protection.
This 2.6 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The incredibly huge 400 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space--enough for storing up to 240 hours of television programming, a vast multimedia collection, or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory (2 x 1024 MB, PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a good start right out of the box, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB), excellent for your multimedia needs today and tomorrow.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This desktop comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and optical mouse (both PS/2) and remote control.
Video & Audio
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics/video card with up to 256 MB of shared video memory (allocated from the system RAM). Nvidia's exclusive TurboCache technology allows direct rendering from the GPU to system memory by leveraging the bi-directional PCI Express bandwidth. The TurboCache Manager dynamically allocates memory for maximum system performance while intelligent software algorithms maximize application performance. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
For expansion, this desktop features a drive bay that fits an optional HP Personal Media Drive--which enables you to add 500 GB of storage for your video and music libraries. It has three PCI expansion slots (one available), one PCI x16 Express slot (available), and the following external ports:
- 6 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (2 in front, 4 in rear)
- 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 in front, 1 in rear)
- Composite video, S-Video, and analog audio inputs
- Headphone and microphone jacks
- Audio output: digital audio out, surround sound speakers--rear, side, center (subwoofer)
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 15-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Pro/Duo/Pro Duo, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, XD Picture Card, RSMMC, MMC Mobile, MMC+
The following I/O ports are found on the back:
-
- 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 1 FireWire
- Video (VGA, composite, S-Video)
- Audio output: digital audio out, surround sound speakers--rear, side, center (subwoofer)
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
It includes an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect to your favorite Wi-Fi hotspot.
Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. dont waste your money. problems from the beginning- communication problem with monitor (2 different monitors). on the 2nd day of ownership- would not boot up. called hp- they sent me recovery discs. computer would not recover. called hp-sent box for repair. computer came back- replaced hard drive. still did not function correctly - periodic no communication with monitor.plus noticed a dent in the media card reader. calling hp (as i type with one hand-on hold waiting for supervisor for 90 minutes). requesting money back. up to now hp support was pretty good-no long holds, but this is terrible. save yourself the hassle.
GREAT COMPUTER.......2007-05-19
Well I think I got a very good product for a very good price so I am happy for buying this pc thanks AMAZON.
A GREAT Machine!.......2007-04-10
HP has been right there when questions/problems needed answering. The 400GB hard drive is huge and with 2GB of RAM and AMD Dual core processor, really screams.
A problem early on (that I caused), HP over-nighted me materials I needed without delay. They're the very best in customer service in my experience I've ever had.
I might have taken 1/2 of a star off because there are too few PCI slots. I've never had this great a restriction in any PC I've owned.
Windows VISTA Home premium is smooth and very stable, but doesn't work with several applications I use many times daily. HP Support told me my Scanjet 3670 (which is more than 1 year old and thereby out of warranty) will not work with this system.
All things considered, this is a terrific computer and I'm pleased with its performance and HP's customer support.
Great computer and value (after minor glitch).......2007-03-10
What's not to love with this powerhouse!!! Rather than pile on the superlatives let me address some points raised by another reviewer.
All delivery companies, including UPS, will leave your package if they have signed delivery instructions on file. Since we both work, and have left instructions with all the delivery companies, UPS left our computer at the front door. They will also leave it at a neighbor, provided you have your neighbors permission. We have also had UPS deliver packages to our work address (better get permission from your boss).
Before you order, make sure any tool/appliance is suitable for your special needs. Most people do not buy a computer just to watch TV.
After I hooked up everything (fast and easy to do with HP quick start guide) I turned it on expecting to be dazzled by the graphics on 20" LCD widescreen Samsung 206BW monitor. Much to my dismay, I got an error message saying the CPU fan had failed - and the system shut off. I tried to boot several times but got the same message.
I called HP Support. After about 10 minutes on hold I was able to explain the problem. Support said they were going to put a techie on the call. I waited on hold about 5 minutes. While I was waiting I opened up the side panel. Guess what I saw!!!
Apparently during shipping, a cable had worked itself into the fan, pinning down the blades and preventing it from spinning. I moved the cable, closed up the case, and turned it on. IT WORKED!
By the time the techie joined the call I was well into the initial setup. Support noted what had happened, thanked me for fixing the problem, chatted briefly, then we all happily went our separate ways. Total time on the phone about 30 minutes.
As the Start Guide says, the first time you turn it on, the computer sets up all the software, gets updates, and asks you some information. This whole process takes about 30 minutes, depending on additional software and your configuration.
WOW!!! Even double and triple WOWS!!! I am impressed! I've been in IT (programmer) for over 30 years, and writing web applications for nearly 10 years. The dual core is fast, 2 GBs of RAM virtually eliminate disk swapping.
Vista OS will take some getting used to; some things just don't work like they do in XP. But this old dog is learning new tricks, and I'm sure I'll soon be ripping and burning and crunching like an old pro.
I've had this about a week and I'm still discovering new delights. Many of the features I have not had time to use, but based on my experience so far, I am looking forward to using.
Since Vista is so new, there may be some applications that won't work properly, but do not let that stop you. Software companies are scrambling to keep up, and updates and new drivers are being delivered as we speak. So if you get an error message installing an application, contact them and/or Microsoft.
Vista notes when an application crashes, and sends information to Microsoft. I was surprised when a special driver was installed by Windows Update to satisfy a conflict an application had the night before. Somebody or something in Redmond heard my problem and solved it in 24 hours.
Would I buy this model again? YES!!!
Would I buy Vista again? Yes! It has some very impressive features, especially the graphics - This is the future trend of software.
I do love the 20" widescreen monitor. The only thing I would do differently is buy the 24" Samsung SyncMaster widescreen; bigger is better.
I have to go, should shut off the computer. Let's see ... Press Start...
If I had but known ..........2007-03-07
Just a couple of things they don't tell you in the description:
The first is that it is delivered by UPS AND IT REQUIRES A SIGNATURE, and they don't deliver on Saturday or Sunday, and they only give you an eleven hour spread for the delivery time - between 8 AM and 7 PM. This means you are going to have to be home all day on a workday!
The second thing they don't tell you is there is no way to hook this so called MEDIA CENTER to get reception TO your television! Yes, there is two S-Video plugins and two composite video plugins but they are all for INPUT. I repeat; there is no S-Video OUT nor is there a composite video OUT.
What good is a MEDIA CENTER that will record TV, do stop-action TV and all those other cool things if you can't get a picture TO your television??
Another thing they don't tell you is that if you need help with this computer plan on being on hold for almost two hours and don't expect to speak to someone who's native language is English.
Other than that, this may be a good product. I don't have any idea as I was planning on hooking it to my television for output. I guess I just assumed too much. Somehow, I just thought that a computer supposedly built to manipulate television reception would just natural output to a television....

Customer Reviews:
Pretty dang good.......2007-08-18
I bought this product last week and found it to be simpily amazing there were only a few cons.
1. slightly bulky
2. case is ummm well i cant spell atrocious but thats close enough
But the pros greatly outnumber the cons
1. massive storage
2. large 3.5 in screen
3. durable(i mean people are saying it breaks if you drop it duh drop an ipod it wont just break it shatters)
4. great battrie life 14 audio 5 video(and if your a music junkie like me i bought a spare battrie)
5. easy to control, buttons are easy to understand
All in all a great product if you like movies and music with 20 gigs i currently have 17 movies on it with about 5 gigs left for music completly awsome although not quite small enough to fit in pocket if your a girl guys we have no problem remember bulge is good. Its not quite a five but most defiantly not a 4. So the you have it i recomend this to people who dont mind a little bulk for a little buck ha ha i made a funny.... man im wierd
I wish I could pick zero stars for this piece of junk!!.......2007-01-14
Unfortunately, when I bought this thing it was new on the market, so the horror stories that are seemingly abundant now weren't around to warn me off back then. Needless to say, I have been plagued by problems with my pmc-120 from quite early on. My pmc has since totally died and despite testing with new batteries etc, turns on but does not respond.... Rubbish!! considering I paid $300+ this is unacceptable.
To add insult to injury, iriver North America has not responded to my emails. Therefore, the warranty I paid for is effectively useless. Please don't buy this product. There are other portable media centers out there, like the toshiba gigabeat and the DreamEo, but I'm really not sure if they're any good either!! Like others here, I am doing my utmost to warn people away from making the mistake of buying one of these infernal contraptions.

iriver.......2006-11-11
Don't waste your money. What iRiver doesn't tell their customers is that once the battery goes dead, the system is useless. I will never buy one of their products again and I'm doing my best to inform everyone out there that they'll be tossing their money in the trash by purchasing any iRiver products. My system cost me $340.00 and it is now as useless as the customer service department at iRiver
Cool while it lasted =(.......2006-10-01
I purchased this 3 months ago and have been using it nonstop since. Unfortunately, after dropping it the thing no longer works, so it isn't very sturdy. The screen is bigger and it is much more watchable than the video iPod. One thing that really sucked about it (besides breaking down on me) was that the mp3 part of it was annoying. If you were listening to music and then watched a video, when you went back to pick up listening to your music you would have to start completely over in your playlist or annoyingly have to scroll down until you found your place.
Anyways, overall I loved this thing while it worked, but definitely won't be buying another one! I don't want to spend $200 bucks on something that just breaks so easily.
Excellent iPod Contender.......2006-09-25
I'd like to mention first my personal dislikes. One reviewer mentioned the user manual being thrown together. I couldn't agree more... The manual references a few features that I cannot seem to locate on the player and is also not very helpful in walking you through how to convert files to a compatible format that the player will play. New users could give the PMC a bad review due to the lack of the user friendliness manual. The USB plug cover is annoying as hell when trying to plug in the USB cable. You want to rip it off the player but then you risk getting dirt in the USB port. The power cord should have either had a 90* connector or the recepticle should have been located towards the bottom of the player. The player easily tips over because of this. Lastly, why is there no STOP button? iPods don't have this either but when I'm finished listening or watching I want to return to the main menu without what I was doing being paused in the background (you can actually see it). All of these grips are easily outweighed by the players other features though.
On to the good parts... The video quality appears really good. The hard part is finding consistant information and software that will convert your DVD videos to WMV format. Video conversion all depends on the speed of your PC. My PC took about 1 hour to convert a 30 min episode of South Park to a WMV file and a few minutes to transfer the 177mb file to the PMC.
JPEG picture quality is excellent. I resized all of my pics to the 320x240 screen size (keeping the aspect ratio). You can play any song(s) while the slideshow is playing too. The lack of slideshow control is a slight downside.
One other feature I would have expected from a slightly bulky PMC is a FM tuner. Sometimes there are live events that you'd like to listen to without having to carry another device with you.
Hopefully a future BIOS update will allow more options/flexability for the playlist, slideshow, etc...
Price, definitely worth %50+/- of the MSRP of $499.99 ($250).
I would have easily given 5 stars had the manual been a little more helpful and accurate and had the MSRP been in a more affordable/reasonable range.
Oct 6, 2006 - After playing around with the device for several hours I have found some of the features listed in the manual. This doesn't mean that the manual is correct in the way it informs you how to access these features though. You can actually override the players conversion settings and transfer other file formats to the player to see if they will play. You still must use the Media Players sync feature to get an understandable meta tag for the files, or you just get an "unknown". You must use MP10 to access the players sync options.
I'm not quite sure how the FM tuner add-on works since all ports (except USB) are output.
After spending countless hours trying to find freeware that converts DVD files to WMV I find that I already had a program that would partially do this for me. Pinnacle Studio 9 has a VOB to Mpeg converter, I then let MP10 do its job converting to a compatible format. A 23 minute video is about 120MB. Not too bad....
My best advice to anyone who has purchased or is going to purchase this item is to use the left & right arrows on the navigation button. That's where the extra features are located. I still feel that a bios update will add many more features to this device that will continue to make this a better than iPod device with the exception of not interfacing with aftermarket car stereos.

Customer Reviews:
bought it 5 years ago..............2007-08-29
yeah, i bought this a while ago.... im just online right now bored, so im writting reviews on stuff because i never do that for the things i buy... well, first off i dont use it anymore.... cuz i have a zune! its coool!
but, anyways from what i remember, it was before the ipod video came it, and all my friends were so impressed with the mustek player! t was light some type of james bond thing... it play videos, pics, music.... everything.. and they were all good quality! mine did break once, but i sent it in with my warrenty thing, and in a month they sent me a new one.
recording movies and tv and playing them right away was sooo easy and fun, it didnt cost money to buy them online.
bad things i remembered.... the scoller thing is on the side is stupid... i mean it works, but its just dumb. when you recorded something, there was some type of fuzzy line way at the top of the screen, it was weird, but very easy to ignore... the game it comes with is stupid, tic tac toe with a computer that is mental retarded.
i gave it 5 stars because it was great and fun and high tec a few years ago.... dont get me wrong, i would still use it now if i wanted, it still works... but if i rated it this year i would give it a 3. but this is a good buy for those who want to record direcly off the tv and put it into your ipod or zune.... no conversion needed, just drag and drop! good idea!
lies.......2006-12-07
this product does not work in video mode with a mac. you can spend the 15+ hours trying to convert the horrible video over to the mac, but good luck. in the end, you'll want to throw it all away.
just ok.......2006-11-06
I bought this mostly for the video playback. The conversion program does a TERRIBLE job of converting videos to the format the player can play...it is choppy and with lots of pixelation...At first I thought something was wrong with the device, but then I recorded a show from TV directly with the device and it had really good quality...so I know now the conversion software is the problem. It really sucks! I tried converting using software I normally use to create ASF files, but it won't play anything unless it is converted by its own conversion program. Even though the price is good, pass on this one...
Oh and another thing...I also have a Mustek Camera/camcorder which records video as ASF files, but this Mustek player won't play the videos recorded by the Mustek camera! That's really sad...doesn't say much for this company.
Unhappy user.......2006-09-12
I have received 3 replacement units so far since I received my first unit in January. Not one of these lasted longer than 3 weeks and each stopped working completely for different reasons. The 1st time the power button wouldn't work each time. The 2nd time, the unit froze with the vol icon stuck on the display and nothing worked. This last time, the unit turns on with snow on the screen and no response. Up until this last time, Mustek customer service reponded promptly. This last time I guess they don't want to deal with me as 3 emails and no response. They may have returned my call, but the person couldn't speak English or even speak clearly in whatever.
* Don't buy this no matter how good the specs.
Supported card sizes.......2006-07-09
Just in case anyone is interested I have tried a 2Gig card with my PVR-A1 and it seems to work fine and sees all 2Gig of it (Am now wondering if it would be happy with the 4Gig cards starting to arrive on the market) Also the 150x card solves alot of the other problems described in these reviews, i.e. choppy songs and delayed sound on video.

Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Pavilion s7600n Slimline desktop PC gives you all the power of a fully loaded home/office desktop in a sleek, silvery gray chassis that's one-third the size of a traditional PC tower, enabling you to place it unobtrusively anywhere--from your office to entertainment center to kitchen. This slimline model is powered by the 2.0 GHz Athlon 64 3500+ processor, which is ready to take on the 64-bit applications of tomorrow. You can easily burn your home video productions to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format LightScribe DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc. And thanks to its integrated Wi-Fi capabilities (802.11b/g), you don't need to worry about stringing Ethernet cable from your broadband modem in another room.
It features a large 200 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), Nvidia GeForce 6150LE video card with up to 256 MB of shared memory, multi-format memory card reader, a wide variety of connectivity options (including both USB 2.0 and FireWire), digital audio output for home theater surround sound, and Windows XP Media Center 2005 operating system. This is Windows Vista capable PC, and it's also Windows Vista Premium ready.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The spacious 200 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3500+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.0 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MT/s (mega transfers per second) and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
- Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (PC4200, 2 x 256 MB, 533 MHz) is enough to get you started, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. Unfortunately, due to this PC's compact size, this desktop only expands to 1 GB maximum RAM capacity (2 x 512 MB).
- CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 40x CD-R, and 32x CD-RW write speeds, as well as 16x DVD-ROM, and 40x CD-ROM read speeds.
- Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics/video card with up to 256 MB of shared video memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card that's compatible with an 8-speaker surround sound system and a digital audio output for connecting to a home theater receiver.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This desktop has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. For expansion, this Slimline desktop has one PCI slot (occupied), one 5.25-inch external bay (occupied), and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied). It comes with the following external connections:
- 5 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
- 1 line-in, 1 line-out, and 1 microphone
- 1 SPDIF digital audio output
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. You get the enhanced protection you need from aggressive worms, hackers, and other on-line threats with the preinstalled Norton Internet Security 2006 software, which includes a 60-day subscription of live updates. Sonic's DigitalMedia Plus makes it easy and intuitive to back up your pictures, videos, and music onto DVD-R or DVD+R media for safekeeping. Other pre-loaded software includes Microsoft Works, MSN Encarta Standard Online, Quicken New User Edition 2006, Microsoft Money 2006, Muvee autoProducer, Sonic MyDVD Plus, RealPlayer, and Adobe Reader 7.0.
Dimensions and Weight
This desktop measures 9.75 x 4.375 x 13.125 inches (HxWxD) and weighs 14.2 pounds.
What's in the Box
The Pavilion s7600n desktop PC comes with a power cord, keyboard, and scroller mouse. It is backed by a one-year warranty for parts and labor from date of purchase, one-year technical phone service, and 90 days of software application support.

Good computer.......2007-08-23
This computer has been working out great since I bought it about 3 months ago. With the coax hookup in the back my monitor will double as a TV and it even comes with a remote. The card readers located on the front are very convenient as is the USB port on the front. There are 4 more USB ports located on the back which is way more than I need right now but it's good to know that when I do need them they will be there. It has room for 2GB RAM which is nice. You can put this computer almost anywhere because of it's size. The only downside I see is the lack of room for expansion. That hasn't really been an issue for me at this point though.
perfect for the kids..........2007-06-29
I bought this little desktop for my two boys at Christmastime this past year and have to say I'm entirely impressed with it.
I've long been a fan of HP's computers. They tend to have high-quality construction and give good value for the price. However, this is an unusual unit, thanks to its small size. I used to avoid "funky" or unusual designs, but wanted something relatively sturdy and not too large. With the advent of USB for most peripherals, the use of PCI cards and drive bays becomes much less critical. And the Wi-Fi is integrated on the motherboard here. So I went with this machine.
It was very easy to set up and it has run consistently well. It's played a variety of games, even demanding ones. The video card seems to have plenty of zip and it powers the cheap Acer flatpanel I bought for the boys just fine. I did junk the crummy keyboard and mouse that came with it.
Overall, I can't say anything bad about this machine. So much so that I'm thinking of replacing my long-in-tooth web server with one just like it.

Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Pavilion a1240n comes loaded with the all tools you need to easily create, manage, share, and enjoy your digital photos, home videos, movies, and music. It features a wide range of connectivity options for all your peripherals and preloaded HP Image Zone Plus photo editing and management software. It comes loaded with 512 MB of RAM, which can be bumped up to 4 GB, as well as a roomy 200 GB hard drive. It also features a hyper-threading Intel Pentium 4 630 processor (3.0 GHz), LightScribe multi-format DVD/CD burner, additional DVD-ROM drive, a 9-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with today's most popular digital camera formats, and a wide assortment of pre-loaded software.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The large 200 GB Ultra DMA hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video.
- Processor: The fast, hyper-threaded 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 630 processor allows a single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a blazingly fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate, and a 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It sits very close to the top of the speed spectrum for this processor (as of autumn, 2005).
A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. This results in more efficient software performance (such as faster reaction times in gaming applications) and enhanced multitasking.
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC-3200, 2 x 512 MB) is a good start for this multimedia-centric desktop PC, so you'll want to take advantage of the ultra-roomy 4 GB of total RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and immersive 3D gaming.
- CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds. This desktop also comes with an additional 16x DVD-ROM drive.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This desktop comes with an HP Internet keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 128 MB of shared video memory. It also features the integrated Intel High Definition audio chip (Azalia), featuring THX certification and 8 channels for full Dolby 5.1/6.1/7.2 surround sound with Dolby Pro Logic IIx.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, the a1220n has two 5.25-inch external bays (occupied), two external 3.5-inch bays (one available), one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied), and three PCI slots (two available). It comes with the following external connectors:
- 7 USB 2.0 ports (3 in front, 4 in rear) for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 front, 1 back)
- 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 microphone, 1 headphone
- 1 line-out, and 1 line-in jack
- 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (with Service Pack 2) is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). It's compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV and antenna inputs, and it includes an FM tuner.
It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), Encarta Encyclopedia 2005, Quicken New User Edition 2005, Microsoft Money 2005, RecordNow, WinDVD Player, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus, muvee AutoProducer, iTunes, and PC Doctor.
The included HP Image Zone Plus photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.
Dimensions and Weight
This desktop PC measures 15.2 x 7.2 x 17 inches (HxWxD) and weighs approximately 24 pounds.
What's in the Box
This package contains the HP Pavilion a1240n desktop PC, power cable, keyboard, and mouse. It is backed by a limited warranty for parts and labor for one year from date of purchase as well as technical telephone assistance for one year. Software is also covered for 90 days from date of purchase.
Customer Reviews:
Great entry level off the shelf computer, but read shortcomings below.......2006-01-24
I bought this computer from Fry's about a month ago and it's great for conventional applications, Media Center, etc... The problem I had with the computer was the upgradeability. Specifically the motherboard, which doesn't allow the later generation of graphics cards (PCI-E). So if you're looking for a computer that you'll be able to grow with this is not the one. I ended up taking the comp back and building mine from scratch, an accomplishment that isn't so hard these days. I miss the Media Center program but I'm a lot happier with a machine I can upgrade in the future.
Satisfied with my purchase.......2006-01-13
I've owned an almost identical model of this PC from HP for about 8 months, and I have to say I'm pretty satisfied. The 200GB hard drive is of good quality and shows no signs of performance lag. The processor holds up to heavy use, and the rest of the hardware seems OK. I like my dual CD-RW and dual layer DVD +R burner, which I use often. More than enough USB ports. And Windows Media Center is a good improvement on Windows XP.
Watch Out for missing ports.......2006-01-06
I recently purchased this machine. I found that the machine was well out together and have no real issue with the quality of the machine. I like the card slots and ports available on the front.
However, when the machine was opened up I found that HP did not include any port to upgrade to a video card! Incredible, that this would be missing on a computer in this price range and perfomance.
I also found that the power supply is only 250watts. For a pentium 4 class computer this is a cheap way to degrade an otherwise good design.
If I had purchased a bargain basement computer from a local supplier I would have concluded I got what I paid for. This is not something I woud expect from a "high end" computer from HP.
Had I known these issues existed I would not have purchased this model.

Customer Reviews:
Great Amazon & Creative support!.......2007-07-05
The player does all that it says. But everyone's worst nightmare is getting a bad one out of the box, which happened to me. I called Creative support and the helped me confirm the hard drive was defective. Then I told Amazon and in 5 minutes had a prepaid return label and a new player within the week. That is great in anyone's book. Still getting used to the player, but it works great!
Good product for the price.......2007-03-30
Pros:
A lot of features such as Video Playback, MP3, Organizer, Alarm Clock, Voice Recorder, FM Tuner. Using their software is basically like opening up explorer in Windows. Resolution and sound quality are nice. Having buttons instead of a touch pad allows for more precise control. Removable battery pack is nice. There is an additional extended battery pack available for purchase. Has a speaker so you can blast ghetto music in a fancy restaurant if you'd like. Can take a CompactFlash card to transfer data. Many other fun features.
Cons:
OMG is it HUGE!!! I honestly wasn't expecting it to be THAT big. I thought "hm... maybe a little bit bigger than the Zen Vision M...?" This thing is almost the exact same size as my Nintendo DS! I just can't get over how HUGE it is. It's a bit of a turn off for those who might want to use it to exercise and walk around with. Think super old school Walkman but significantly heavier! When the delivery guy dropped it off, I was shocked that the box was so HUGE!! I thought they had sent me the wrong item! And then I opened it...!!! I was almost repulsed by how prehistoric it looked!
More cons... The thing LAGS. It definitely doesn't operate nearly as fast as the iPod when switching menus. I guess that's because of all the things it offers. It does get to be a little bit tedious and frustrating.
Even more cons... Lack of accessories. I guess I probably won't need a toughskin or protector for this thing, because if I drop it, it'll damage whatever it lands on, purely by its size.
Overall, as far as the functions of this player are concerned, I'm happy with it. However, I'm still trying to get over the ridiculous size of the thing. Do I dare bring it out in public? What would my friends say? Would people stare?! I highly suspect that they will laugh.
Oh well... I guess I was really only going to use it to play music in the car. I must remember to hide it in the glove box before I let any passengers in the car.
Creative Zen Vision 30 GB Multimedia Player (white) .......2007-03-12
I just love my Multimedia Player. I can play songs, listen to books and store pictures to carry around with me. The screen is big and sharp so you can see pictures very well. I have not tried to play videos on it yet and I have not had any problems so I don't have any complaints.
Perfect.......2007-03-11
I was a little concerned about buying this item by the Internet, but everything was really easy and the service was perfect. The items arrived in very good conditions and on time. Wonderful service!
Good product.......2007-01-14
Have had this for almost a year now.
Pros:
The battery life is good.
FM radio and recording.
Video out.
Removable battery
Can also double as a portable hard disk for photos during travel (bought the flash card adapter for SD card use)
Cons:
The video angle can get irritating as you have to look straight at it but when (if) found, its very good (but not as good as PSP)
I would recommend this over the iPod as I've used both. Its also easier (and MUCH faster) to transfer videos to the Zen than to the iPod.

Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Pavilion a1610n comes loaded with the all tools you need to easily create, manage, share, and enjoy your digital photos, home videos, movies, and music. It features a wide range of connectivity options for all your peripherals and preloaded HP Photosmart Premier digital image editing and management software. And you can easily burn your home video productions to DVD for friends and family with the dual-layer, multi-format DVD/CD burner, which enables you to store up to 8.5 GB of data on a DL disc and provides a super-fast 16x DVD+R/-R write speed. It also includes LightScribe technology for personalized silkscreen-quality, laser-etched CD/DVD labels created right in the drive.
This desktop is powered by the 2.2 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. Store more music, videos, and data on the roomy 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive, which offers fast transfer rates. it also comes loaded with 1 GB of RAM (which can be bumped up to 4 GB), an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 video/graphics card with up to 256 MB of shared video RAM, a wide variety of connection ports on both the front and rear of the box, a 9-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with today's most popular digital camera formats, Windows Media Center 2005 operating system, and a wide assortment of pre-loaded software. This is a Windows Vista capable PC, and it's also Windows Vista Premium ready.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The extra-large 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4200+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power.
This 2.2 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC4200, 2 x 512 MB, 533 MHz) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and gaming software. Its 400 MHz speed is a little slower than comparable multimedia desktops, but does add to this package's affordability. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB), which is a bit small in comparison to other multimedia desktops in this HP lineup.
- CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, and 32x CD-RW write speeds. It also offers 16x DVD-ROM and 40x CD-ROM read speeds.
- Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Graphics and Sound
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150LE graphics/video card with up to 256 MB of shared video memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers and is compatible with Dolby Pro Logic II.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, this desktop has three PCI slots (two available), one PCI Express slot (available), two 5.25-inch external bays (one available), one external 3.5-inch bay (available), and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:
- 7 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (3 in front, 4 in rear)
- 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals (1 in front, 1 in rear)
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 2 headphone and 2 microphone (front and rear)
- 2 line-in (front and rear)
- Coaxial digital audio (SPDIF) output for connecting to surround sound home theater receiver
- Surround sound speaker outputs (rear/side/center (subwoofer)
- 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Update Rollup 2) is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. The Update Rollup 2 upgrade offers support for the Windows Media Center Extender technology built into XBox 360 game consoles, which lets you access entertainment from your Media Center PC--whether it's live and recorded TV and movies, music, photos or Online Spotlight--on any TV in the house.
The HP Photosmart Premier photo and imaging software makes digital photography fast and easy by helping you organize, edit, protect, and share your digital pictures and video clips. Sonic's DigitalMedia Plus makes it easy and intuitive to back up your pictures, videos, and music onto DVD-R/+R media for safekeeping. It also comes with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), PC Recovery, PC Doctor, MSN Encarta Standard, Microsoft Money, Quicken New User Edition, Sonic MyDVD Plus, Muvee AutoProducer, and RealRhapsody.
Dimensions and Weight
This desktop PC measures 15.2 x 7 x 17 inches (HxWxD) and weighs approximately 24 pounds.

Customer Reviews:
Quality at the right price.......2007-05-17
I actually own a younger version of this, and paid about the same price as this one. I couldn't be happier with Hp's excellent desktops, I use mine (3gz pentium) for everything from music production to film editing (im a film student) and It preforms extremely well. Heck, maby I should upgrade...its not like its all that expensive :)
From a non techie.......2007-03-23
I am happy with the new computer, only my second. I haven't decided whether to upgrade to Windows Vista since I spent a lot of time getting everything hooked up like I like it. I shopped Amazon and chose HP based on Consumer Reports.
HP quality control is a joke! Don't buy!!!!.......2007-03-11
Anybody thinks the PC is less expensive and a good bargain. For me the biggest investment is your time, not your money. I want to give this product rate 0 start, which is not available.
I could not agree more with the review by D.Alejandro. Same things happened to me. Seems it is not an isolated case. I first ordered A1610N, several days after I got it, screen became only dotted lines. Did several recoveries, no luck, had to return to HP. Thought it was only an isolated case, ordered an A1650. Arrived in Jan. It ran good for several days, then no boot. Had to do recovery three times, it always ran good for several days, then the PC just went on strike, no boot, blank screen nothing. Have to ship it to repair center. Not sure whether they can fix it or not. Just consider the hassel and long hours you spent on this junk. Called tech support, really could not help you in anyway, except thank you for holding the line. Don't know how HP claims it s customer service is one of the best.
Today's HP is no longer the old HP you used to know. I was a loyal customer, my old HP brio PC ran several years without a single problem. Today HP cuts corners to become price competitive. I don't care whether the PC is made in Mexico, or the support call center in india as long as it can provide quality services and products. Clearly HP can not do it. I should have given Dell a serious consideration. NO HP products any more!
Excellent system........2007-02-28
I am very happy with this computer. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. It was extremly easy to set up, came with a very nice keyboard, is very fast, and is a pleasure to use. I did buy an LG monitor to go with it and it's just perfect.
You can buy this excellent computer.
This computer rocks!!!.......2007-02-25
I love this computer! My dad bought it to replace our old slow computer and it's awesome! The colors are vivid and the Media Center is excellent - I have used it to make horrible pictures look beautiful. It's super fast. This is, in my opinion, the best computer in our home. Please note that we own a Mac and this computer. I regularly use both and this computer is far superior. I can't wait for our free upgrade to Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium to come in the mail because once we install it our computer will be even better (currently I don't think that's possible).
Buy this computer! You will not regret it! ; )
