2 out of 5 stars This is a 6.2 MP NOT A 8PM as advertised.......2007-09-06

When you actually receive the camera, it is not a 8 PM but a 6.2MP, which was a great disappoitment. Everything advertises it as the 8MP including the receipt. Truth of the matter is that it is mis-advertised on the website. When we called to let them know and try to get the 8 PM we were told it was a mistake on the website and we could ship it back but would NOT be guaranteed a 8PM camera (basically they would have sent us the same camera). Disappointing.

5 out of 5 stars HP Photosmart R717 digital Camera.......2007-03-09

This is my first digital camera. Previous to my purchase of this item, I had no knowledge of digital cameras at all but, after reading the manual and with a little practice, I was able to take fairly decent pictures and understand and utilize the various features of the camera. I purchased a 512 MB chip and was able to transfer the images to my computer with ease.

5 out of 5 stars Thanks to the reviewers before me........2007-02-14

I bought this camera due to the great reveiws on Amazon. This is my first digital camera. I've been very impressed with the shots it takes, and with the ease it is to operate it. The on-screen guide is very helpful, especially since I consider myself "low-tech". So, really, "my" 5 stars goes to both the camera, and all those who reviewed it before the end of 2006.

4 out of 5 stars great camera, but delayed shots.......2007-01-25

I love this camera, but a few seconds delay with clicking the shutter means I miss nearly all the quick smiles of my baby. Other than that, this is a nearly perfect camera. Perfect size, great shots, rechargable battery, nice LCD....great!

in every aspect. Good size, easy to use, great pictures-

1 out of 5 stars R717 Camera a Replacement for R707.......2007-01-05

The reason I purchased this camera is that I already owned an HP R707 camera. The On/Off switch broke on the R707 and that left me with a lot of useless accessories. It was cheaper to purchase the R717 at Amazon than to have HP repair the R707. The pictures have been good so far, however I keep looking for the On/Off switch to break on this camera. If that happens I will buy something else.

Amazon.com Product Description

The HP PS735 delivers big results from a little camera, thanks mainly to its high-resolution CCD. It also offers terrific connectivity options thanks to HP Instant Share technology that lets users select where photos will go the next time they connect the camera to a PC--e-mail addresses, printers and more.

Optics and Resolution
The PS735 has a 3.24 effective-megapixel CCD that snaps pictures at a native resolution of 2088 x 1550 pixels. That's enough resolution to allow for clear printouts at up to 11 x 14 inches. The 3x optical zoom lens can be augmented by the 5x digital zoom for a total zoom level of 15x. This is a point-and-shoot camera with a variety of automatic shooting modes, but several manual adjustments also are available for those times you need to override the default settings.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored in the camera's 16 MB internal memory or on removable SD or MMC cards. The camera connects to a PC using a full-speed USB 1.1 interface.

More Features
The HP PhotoSmart 935 and 735 digital cameras feature the latest version of HP Instant Share. HP Instant Share is an Internet-based software application that allows consumers to select destinations from the back of the camera; then, by connecting the camera to a computer, the photos are instantly sent to the selected destinations--e-mail addresses, printers or hpphoto.com. Receivers of the HP Instant Share e-mail can easily view, print and save the photos from a secure Web page--all without downloading attachments.

The many manual adjustments include various ISO settings, several flash modes, macro focus mode, and many exposure controls. A ten-second timer is built in and the camera can adjust automatically to compensate for a variety of lighting conditions.

Other features include:

Power and Size
The camera is powered by two AA batteries (rechargeable NiMH batteries recommended). It measures 4.13 by 1.8 by 2.8 inches and weighs .52 pounds (without batteries).

4 out of 5 stars A Decent Snapshot Camera, but Buy a Newer One.......2006-08-23

I have owned this camera for almost 3 years now, and it is the sturdiest and most reliable one that I have had. Once, I dropped it from 5 feet onto a sidewalk and it didn't even get a scratch. The outdoor picture quality is excellent, as well as the macro mode, but if you have shaky hands (like me), you will have a ton of blurry pics. The screen just can't compete with new cameras, being too small and dim to see outdoors. The flash is weak, but if you know how to use aperture and ISO settings, indoor shots will turn out pretty good. Personally, I think buyers would be better off buying one of HP's new R-series cameras (R717, R817, etc). While this camera is cheap and pretty reliable, the newer models have much more features and are still around $200-$300.

4 out of 5 stars okay.......2006-04-05

this cam was great when untill the flash didnt work! i went online for support but after talking to them, they said it was a internal malfunction or something like that but by then the warrantee already expired so im stuck with a flashless camera. Ive miss many special moments due to no flash. and its really hard taking pictures with no flash and no tripod.

But overall good camera! batteries seems as though they die quick but like i turn it off for like a few hours then the batteries came back to full power again. The video mode is pretty good....i also recommend using the power adapter when possible! that way you can turn the camera on as long as you want without worrying about the batteries dieing out!The printer is a really great printer as well!...but sadly i cant live any longer with a flashless camera so im going to sell this up or just give it to my brother or something and saving up for a Fuji Finepix s5100...Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Solid, Dependable Camera.......2006-02-14

I have owned my hp photosmart 735 for about 3 or 4 years and have never once had a problem with it. It was a dependendable and consistant camera. My friends have many other types and have had to go through repairs and problems but not me. Everything that this camera says it does, it does. I have never had to worry about it quiting on me.
So in my opinon if you are looking for a dependable camera, this I would defintly label as one of them.

4 out of 5 stars use it right, it does the job.......2006-02-02

This was my first digital camera and it's because of this camera that I stuck with HP when upgrading. It's a very good point and shoot camera with enough modes and settings to satisfy those who like fiddling with such things.

Many of the reviews here complain about battery life. Turn off the live display, you don't need it anyway since the viewfinder is accurate. I never got *fewer* than 60 pictures (sometimes more) in two star mode with the live display off, on a pair of 1800 mAh rechargeables. I also had a big difference when I changed the auto shutoff to a shorter time period.

Also, yes, you need a memory card -- but what digital camera doesn't? I had a 64 MB card with mine and only once completely used the card up.

Shutter speed is a little slower than average for the class but fine for everything except action shots. Lens glass is by Pentax and is good quality. No, you won't get digital SLR quality from this camera, but at <$140 it's a great deal.

1 out of 5 stars horrible waste of money.......2005-12-21

You can literally take 8 shots and the camera is dead. I've missed so many photo opps. Definitely NOT worth buying.

2 out of 5 stars Would not recommend.......2007-06-29

I received this camera for my birthday in March. I exchanged it 2 days later because the battery would not hold a charge. The second one lasted until about 2 weeks ago (so approx. 3 months). This time the camera would turn itself on when it was just sitting on the counter and turn itself off when I tried to take a picture. Very weird. Anyway, I have been trying to return it to Target again, but every Target in my area seems to be out of them. So I have decided that I am going to try something else. I seem to have no luck with HP cameras, the last one I owned (before the R725) just decided to die on the day of my sons 3rd birthday party. I believe the problem with the R725 does not lie with the camera itself, but with the battery. It would be a great camera if the battery would be better.

4 out of 5 stars great camera, lousy LCD screen.......2007-06-13

I bought this camera for my daughter as a Christmas 2006 gift. It takes great pictures and videos-better than my Canon which cost much more(especially inside -like in auditoriums). She especially enjoys all the fun features to enhance her pictures right in the camera, because she prefers to just keep them all in the camera and scroll through with her friends. HOWEVER, after about four months, the LCD "shattered"-a big black spot with black and white lines radiating out in each direction. Since no viewfinder, the camera was unusable, although it still took pictures just fine-you just couldn't see what you were doing-or look at them afterward. HP replaced the camera-no charge. Two months later, the same thing happened to the replacement. We got that camera's replacement last week. It wouldn't read any memory cards-the newest one arrived today. It seems to be working fine. I will say that HP has been great about sending cameras without charging us, but what a pain. (of course, you must go through at least a half an hour on the phone with the tech who will tell you to take the card out, take the battery out....etc.) BE VERY CAREFUL that nothing comes in contact with the screen-it needs better protection, I think. We bought an extended warranty through the Amazon seller when we purchased, but who knows whether it even covers four cameras later....

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY.......2007-06-05

When I first purchased the HP Photosmart R725, I was very impressed. It was a high quality camera and the price impressed me. After less than a month, the camera no longer worked. Whenever I turned it on, an error message popped up and then the camera turned back off. I got on the HP website and they were very helpful and replaced my camera within a week and thus I was happy again, until this continued happening. I am now on MY FIFTH HP R725, or maybe its the 6th? I'm not sure I lost count. The first problem happened the first few times. I just got off of the HP website to report the fact that my camera takes pictures, but I can't see what of because the LCD remains a blank screen. They refuse to allow me to talk to anyone who speaks decent English and will not refund my money or give me a different camera, I can only have the same one over and over again. I actually got on Amazon so that I could attempt to sell the replacement camera that they are sending me and was surprised to find good reviews. I don't do anything unusual with my camera nor do I use it too often, and I don't think that its possible that I have simply gotten so many "lemons". I highly suggest that you do not buy this camera!

4 out of 5 stars Great little camera all around.......2007-04-09

I really enjoy my Photosmart R725. It's small, easy portable, takes wonderful photos, and is very versatile in terms of settings. I just have one thing I don't like about it, and that's the fact that there is no viewfinder. There is an LCD screen on the back which acts as a viewfinder, but it's hard to see in bright sunlight, and I'm afraid that it will eventually become scratched beyond use. For now, it's great but I'm not sure how it will hold up for the long run. At the same time, it's not spendy, so it might be worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Very Happy.......2007-03-27

This camera is very easy to use, the pictures are excellent. My family loves it!

4 out of 5 stars good camera.......2007-09-19

I've had this camera for well over a year, and I love it. It does take a while to recharge its flash and that has frustrated me at times. This can be helped, but not totally avoided, by always having freshly recharged batteries.

It does eat batteries quickly, but I find that as long as I recharge them enough, it's fine. It only takes two AA batteries and most rechargeable batteries come in sets of at least four, so I always have an extra two with me and switch them out if need be. Of course, if you're the kind of person who always forgets to/never charges their batteries, this is a bad choice for you.

It takes wonderful pictures. I've used it in pretty much any setting you can think of and it's been great. If you leave it someplace cold it'll take a bit to turn back on, but I imagine any other camera would have a similar problem.

Some other reviewers have said this isn't a hardy piece of machinery. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've dropped the thing a number of times and it's still good as new. A little scratched, of course, but it works just as well as it did when it was new.

I pretty much recommend this to anyone, unless you have a problem with being patient about things. Yes, the flash can take a bit to recharge, so just anticipate that. Make sure your batteries are charged. That's all. =)

1 out of 5 stars Not a very good camera.......2007-06-02

I have had this camera since December of 2005.But i got i with the printer too.The printer is very good. But more can be said for the camera. For a few reasons The battery life is very poor.Like it can probley last you 30 mins at the most. And some times if you take a lot of pictures you can use them from the camera. And it will say photo can not be found. And sometimes whene you turn the camera on the screen will be off.And the screen is kind of bleek and dark and blurry too.And the video quality is horrible. And when you are taking a video with the camer the videos are very blurry and poor. And when you take a video you can look at the video on the camera but you CAN NOT HEAR THE SOUND.You have to have a computer to here the sound. And my grandpa has a canon and you can watch the video and hear the sound on the camera too!!!!!And in my opinon HP makes better computers then cameras. Thanks.

1 out of 5 stars camera has many flaws.......2007-05-07

I purchased this camera 1 year ago, and I was so disappointed in the performance. The battery life is terrible, I took it to our town's Christmas Parade, and all the pictures are grainy and really poor quality. I posted some so you can see, also when you take a picture you can not take a picture for another good ten seconds. I had a two foot away shot of the rapper Nelly, and the camera didn't take the shot, and I only caught a shot of his tattoo on his arm! Save your money and get a better camera, like the Canon A630 the same price and much better quality, the battery life is fantastic and the night shots are great too. The shutter speed is much better too. I now have my HP in the closet because when I tried to use it on Thanksgiving the zoom would no longer zoom, and the lense does not retract. The only way I can turn off the power is too take out the batteries! I never dropped it or mistreated my camera, it is just not a good quality camera.

5 out of 5 stars One of the better cameras.......2007-01-04

I've used several digital cameras in the past and this one is my favorite. It has the fewest number of confusing buttons (especially no awkward, symbol-laden dial around the on/off button) and most of the menus are pretty self explanatory. Its highly compact and very durable-- I took mine on a cross-country trip through the middle of the desert. And, of course, it has the best picture quality of all the cameras I've used. Admittedly, it is hard to get pictures in low light (the shutter has to remain open for a while to capture enough photons, resulting in a blurry picture if you hold it in your hands), but this camera does have a hole in the bottom for a screw-in tripod for stabilization.
Plus, its one of the cheaper brands out there. Best bet for my money.

2 out of 5 stars The camera with a glass chin!.......2006-11-29

While I agree with others that this camera takes some pretty nice pictures and is easy to use, I've had the same problems as many have noted here. For starters, the thing eats through batteries like there's no tomorrow. I was lucky to get 20 pictures before the batteries crapped out. My biggest problem, however came when my son was handing the camera over to me at the dinner table and it slipped out of his hand. The camera literally fell only 10-12 inches to the table, but that was enough to render this camera permanently inoperable. Be warned: if you are a little bit clumsy or have butter-fingers, think twice before buying this camera! Red-eye reduction is also a bit of a joke with this one.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Come Anywhere Near This Worthless Camera!!!!.......2004-07-15

Okay, so my birthday was a week ago ...My family knew I really wanted a digital camera, so they decided to pick the HP PS620 for me ...Just looking at the box told me that this was nothing to get excited about. Only 2 Megapixels? 3x optical zoom? That's it?

Yeah, I was polite and thankful upon getting it as a gift, but I'll defenitely be returning it with a speed!

Before you ever turn on the camera, you'll already be unimpressed. The camera feels very light and plastic-ish. Weighing in at a mere .46 pounds, this thing feels more like a children's toy than a real $200 digital camera.

Then you start taking pictures ...Anyone who has ever had a digital camera before will immediately notice the lack of features and options, and the picture quality can easily be obtained (surpassed, even??) with a much cheaper 35mm. There really isn't any special features or advanced options to speak of, and the photographer's creative control is extremely restricted. There is not even a Sepia or Black & White Mode to speak of, so any such editing of your pictures will have to be done on your computer, in a Photoshop program for example.

Many things that a serious photographer would like to have control over will be absent. The white balance, ISO, and the shutter speed cannot be controlled, they are all automatic! This becomes very frustrating.

There is also a "movie" mode, but I believe it is actually refered to as a "motion image" or "motion JPEG" or something. This is because you can't record the video with audio.

So really, the best thing to do is never, ever, ever buy this camera for yourself, or loved ones on their birthdays, either. Serious photographers will find absolutely NO significant controls to take charge over, feeling very restricted. The camera is simply too simple for them. Folks new to digital cameras will find themselves satisfied for now, but in a few months when they begin learning more and more about digital cams they will already be ready for an upgrade. So even for amateurs, the camera is not worth the price.

I recomend instead the Sony Cybershot P10. It does cost a bit more money, but new digital photographers will find a lot of options and controls at their disposal. Even though there's a bit more to learn with that camera, no one should be intimidated by it. Sony has made a very easily-accessible camera in the P10.

For even more advanced photographers, the Nikon Coolpix 5700 is an excellent 5.0 megapixel camera, with even yet more advanced features than the Sony P10.

Both of these cameras will make any photographer, amateurs and serious ones, very happy ...the price is a little higher, but anyone willing to give either a try will realize that the price is definitely worth it.

And as for this worthless camera? Anyone could eventually find that this simplified, point-and-shoot camera is hardly worth $200. I wouldn't pay one red cent for this thing.

My camera has a problem where a lot of times, the picture breaks and disaligns, and I get a garbled picture. Does anyone have an idea of what to do???

4 out of 5 stars Nice Camera for the Price.......2004-06-22

This is a nice camera for its price (...).
3x Optical Zoom is good, but don't expect anything from digital zoom. There isn't much memory, though (You need an SD Card), and onboard memory only stores 7 photos at top resolution.

5 out of 5 stars The best camera for a beginner.......2002-01-05

This past summer I studied in Cuba for a month. Of course this is once in a lifetime opportunity, so I had to get a camera and it HAD to be digital. I've never owned my own camera before and already too many moments in my lifetime have gone by without ever being recorded. I also have a problem with getting myself to the store and going through the tedious and costly process of developing film.
So I went ahead and purchased the HP C615 model and it was probably one of the best purchases I ever made. I also purchased the 96 MB memory card which holds up to 360 photos at the lowest quality (which is better than some film cameras). It was well worth it. All of the other American students whom I met in Cuba, were envious of the fact that I could selectively view and delete my pictures through the camera. In comparing film pictures with mine of the exact same images the HP 615 won out every single time. So that's not a bad large investment compared to buying film, lugging it around and then waiting for it to be developed. Now all I carry is the camera and an extra set of batteries.
Of course this review wouldn't be objective if I didn't put one complaint in. My only complaint is that the viewfinder is not very well lit. It's actually pretty dull compared to some other cameras that I've taken pictures with. It also does not provide a very accurate width of the actual photo that gets processed. But since I realize the fault of the camera, I know its OK to cut off people's arms straggling on the edges of the viewfinder because the photo comes out perfectly trimmed. This does cause a problem for those one or two occasions when you have to rely on a waiter or passerby to take your own photo. They usually include too much of the surrounding area. But I found a way to get around that too; now I set the zoom and area for the innocent bystander.
The pictures I take are breathtaking!! The colors are scintillating, and the lucid ambiance palpable. If you're just starting out this is a great choice. People who now view my photos assume that I have some kind of talent or training, but I am honest and admit to them that it's really the camera.

5 out of 5 stars Pentax optics and H-P electronics equals Great Value!.......2001-11-10

After extensive research into 2 and 3 megapixel cameras, I settled on the H-P C618xi (identical to the C618 except for included software). I was going to Europe for two weeks and wanted to give digital photography a serious workout. Boy, did I make the right choice!
The camera is worth much more than it costs, an idea supported somewhat by resell prices higher than what I paid for it new. It has tremendous versatility: Easy to use automatic features for carefree snapshots and excellent manual capabilities for greater artistic control.
I do professional work for feature and spot news stories. Over the last two or three months, I gradually have pared down the "film" equipment I keep with me until all I take along is the C618xi. The lower JPEG settings are great for newspapers, yet the highest rez TIFF images reproduce perfectly in 4-color glossy mags. Instead of a bulky kit, now I have only a small tote with a wrist strap, containing the camera, 4 spare AA's, a lens brush and CF memory cards. That will last me all day in just about any setting. If I'm doing a flash-heavy shoot, I carry along 4 extra AA's just in case.
This camera is not as power-hungry as some I've seen. However, any user will find that 1600mAH NiMH batteries are the way to go to keep the energy costs down. My personal recommendation is to go with Ray-O-Vac: Their AA's are the highest potency around and they make a great compact 1-hour charger that will charge 4 AA's at once (...).
For the amateur or the professional, I can't recommend this camera highly enough. I wouldn't part with it for anything.

5 out of 5 stars very nice camera.......2001-11-05

i was looking for a digital camera with at least 2 megapixels in a certain price range, and after careful consideration, i chose this one. its a great camera. one of the criticisms i've seen about this camera was the size: i don't find this a problem, and i've had camera with the opposite problem (elph lt, which was sometimes too small to put your hands around). It has some very nice features, including remote control, easy to use menus, usb extension for easy download onto your computer.

with the 16mb memory that comes with it, you can take 28 pictures of really good quality. I'm still getting used to being able to look at the pictures right away and deleting them/etc.

    i highly recommend this camera!

    5 out of 5 stars Let's Get Digital!.......2001-09-26

After admiring the digital cameras of a few of my friends at various functions, I decided to put my tax rebate from President Bush to good use and joined the world of digital photgraphy! After hours of online research, comparing performance specs, reading reviews, etc., I decided to go with the HP C618. I'm happy to say so far I couldn't be happier with my choice. Although it's packed with special features, it also features an ease of use that lets beginners start taking pics right out of the box(well, you do have to install the batteries). A quick-start guide gives you the basics to get you going, while a far more comprehensive manual on an included CDROM tells you how to get the most out of your camera.

So far I've taken a couple of hundred pics, and, except for a few, the results have been fantastic! I christened the camera with a trip to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Got some great pics which I downloaded to my screensaver/wallpaper on my computer at work and have received loads of compliments on the pics. Next test- a trip to Busch Gardens next week(living in Central Florida does have it's benefits!).

A couple of suggestions to add to your digital camera experience- get a card reader, to facilitate the transfer of your pics from the camera to the computer, and a larger memory card. The included card is 16MB, which will get you started, but a larger card, say 64MB or up, will allow you to take a lot more pics without worrying about deleting to make room for more.

5 out of 5 stars Did my research and I picked the right camera.......2001-09-13

I had been thinking about a digital for quite awhile. The family has always used auto-focus 35 mm cameras for the convenience and easy results. We are not photo experts. We were looking for something with enough resolution to print up to 8 x 10 pictures, yet be a fully automatic camera with easy "point and shot" abilities. But at the same time we were looking for all the "extra" features if we wanted to experiment a bit. I did my research both on the internet and in the stores and finally decided on the HP 618xi. I have not been disappointed. I was taking digital pictures and downloading them to the computer within minutes (as well as printing). The camera has a solid feel and after a brief review of the fast start manual, easy to use. Be sure to purchase at least 2 sets of Ni-MH baterries with a charger to keep you going non-stop, and to read the Amazon editorials on purchasing a digital camera to see what features you really want. Be sure to get a camera with an optical zoom (as opposed to digital).

    Amazon.com Review

Despite the fact that Hewlett-Packard has produced a number of successful digital cameras in the past and is one of the biggest manufacturers of photo-quality printers, the company's lack of experience in film cameras has made it difficult for the public to take them seriously in this field. To help change this perception, Hewlett-Packard has paired up with Pentax for its latest product, and each company has contributed its expertise. The result is a pair of identical cameras: the HP 618 and the Pentax EI 200. With the exception of labels, packaging, and included accessories, the two cameras are the same.

The camera's basic specifications are pretty standard: 2-megapixel CCD, 3x Pentax optical zoom, CompactFlash storage (Type I or II, but no Microdrive support), and a 2-inch display. For advanced users, there are aperture and shutter priority modes, adjustable white balance, exposure metering, and adjustable ISO (100 and 200).

If you like the look and feel of Pentax cameras, you'll appreciate the HP's styling. It's curvy, swoopy, classically designed, and feels very solid. Most people who saw the camera were impressed with its overall quality and were surprised to learn it was a digital.

One of the camera's most intriguing (and underdocumented) features is its use of Digita. Digita is an operating system created specifically for digital cameras, allowing software developers to modify and improve the camera's functions. Past Digita cameras have suffered from slow performance, but the 618 seems as quick as most other digital cameras on the market. HP's engineers did a great job of shipping the camera with a wide variety of menus and functions preinstalled, but Digita allows for even more flexibility. Potential applications of this technology range from task-specific features (time-lapse photography, preset exposure modes, and digital special effects, for example) as well as the ability to add new applications--there are even Digita video games available for download. Unfortunately, the manual includes no information about Digita, and we were unable to determine how to transfer Digita files to the camera. This is extremely powerful technology, but perhaps HP buried this ability because they felt that it was too complex for the average user.

The camera makes extensive use of Hewlett-Packard's infrared technology. A remote control is included (handy for self-portraits, keeping the camera steady in low-light shots, and to play back "slide shows" on your TV), and the camera can wirelessly transfer images to select HP printers.

If you're a fan of Pentax styling or own a Hewlett-Packard printer with infrared ability, this camera is a logical choice.

"DON'T BUY FROM THIS SELLER. THEY MISREPRESENT THEMSELVES. THEY SAY ONE THING ON THE BIDDER'S PAGE, BUT WHEN YOU PULL UP THE ACTUAL ITEM, THEY TELL YOU IT COMES WITH A MEMORY CARD. WHO SELLS A CAMERA WITHOUT AN OWNERS MANUAL? IT'S JUST A RIPOFF. I WONDER WHERE THESE CAMERAS REALLY COME FROM WITHOUT BOXES, OWNERS MANUALS, CABLES, MEMORY CARDS. THIS CAMERA DOESN'T OPERATE WITHOUT MEMORY CARD AT ALL." YOU HAVE NO MEMORY CARD, NO BATTERIES, NO OWNERS MANUAL, NO CORD TO CONNECT TO DOWNLOAD PICTURES. YOU'D BE BETTER OFF PAYING FOR A NEW UPDATED VERSION OF THIS CAMERA FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER. YOU'LL END UP SPENDING THE SAME AMOUNT ONCE YOU BUY ALL THE ACCESSORIES NEEDED TO WORK THE CAMERA, BUT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GET A FULL REFUND FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

5 out of 5 stars The best camera you can buy!.......2006-11-18

I have had this camera for over 5 years and I use it frequently. The zoom is now stuck, but that is only because it was knocked off the desk on the carpet! It has probably been dropped on carpet at least 10 times before. I have attempted to fix it but I can't find the problem. I am so satisfied with the performance that I have ordered a used one off amazon to replace my old one. If you are think of buying this used, which is now your only option, you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the Price.......2002-12-19

I have had this camera for about a year and I love it. All in all we have taken about 2000 pictures with it and we love the b/w, color, or sepia option. I have taken some really beautiful pictures that are worthy of being framed and out on the wall. I have noticed the battery problem but that is easily fixed by getting rechargeable batteries and putting the quality on good (you still get great pictures). I would say that we can take 125-150 straight shots with the rechargeable batteries. I have not had to talk to HP tech support so I can't comment on that. We did take this camera to Hawaii and got about 400 absolutely great pictures. I also found that it is incredibly easy to download and email my pictures. Once they are downloaded I email them to friends/family or I burn them onto a CD for people as a photo album, it saves a ton of money. I think a lot of the problems that other reviewers have run into have less to do with the actually camera as it does with either tech support, or technology problems with their computers. If you follow the setup instructions, this camera is very easy to use on the computer and a lot of fun to take pictures with.

1 out of 5 stars not worth the effort.......2002-11-13

The camera took great pictures, but downloading from it to the computer would not work. I had to buy a card reader. Battery life was very short. The camera circuit board blew in less than 18 months and would cost $250 to fix, making it worthless. I'll never buy another HP camera.

    1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!.......2002-11-08

I bought this camera more than a year ago. I'd rate it 5 stars except that I had the following problem: The door of my battery compartment got broken! The problem looks silly enough, but upon calling HP they "simply" told me that my product is 'out-of-warranty' and they don't service it anymore. Even worse, they offered a trade up with a newer model. After checking the prices for the newer models, it turned out that they're buying back my camera for less! All the service centers that I could find on their websites told me that they don't service digital cameras (not only mine). So here I am with a great camera that's totally useless because of a broken plastic part and a lousy customer service.
