Works with Solaris 10 x86.......2007-09-05

My old eMachines T1150 has no built-in NIC. Two cheap 10/100 NICs were not recognized by Solaris 10 x86 (actually, Solaris Nevada b69). I finally decide to buy the Intel PWLA8391GT PRO/1000 GT PCI NIC since I read it used the Solaris e1000g driver. Sure enough, it worked for me. My PC has a 1.3GHz Celeron, 384MB RAM, and two 40GB 5400 RPM disks, so the throughput on the NIC is probably limited by the hardware around it. Thought I'd pass this info along in case there are Solaris folks out there looking for compatible PCI NICs. I believe there's a PCIe version available too.

Had a D-Link Gigabit GA311 card and had nothing but problems under XP and Vista; would only connect at 100MB speed. This Intel card worked on both systems out of the box flawlessly. Highly recommended.

INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI Installs easily and works fine!.......2007-06-10

I needed a network card for my Dell Dimension 4500 that works with Vista. The INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI filled the requirement. Received the item promptly, and I physically installed it easily. I rebooted to Vista. The drivers installed automatically and I was off and surfing in Vista! I also still use Windows XP with the same fine results. I would recommend this card to anyone needing a newer card for Vista.

Gigabit is superb.......2007-04-19

Intel Pro 1000 desktop adapters work with Linux straight out of the box. You plug it in the PCI card slot inside the computer case and it will automatically be recognized by the Linux Kernel on boot, and configured as eth0. On the downside, with Microsoft Windows XP you need to install drivers. I wasn't surprised when I had to change my router (switch) to be gigabit compatible, and all the other machines needed gigabit cards, which they all had already, to get a gigabit network. Gigabit is 1000 base T, or ten times the speed of 100 base T, the current world standard. Intel makes great equipment, and most of it works with Linux. I don't endorse any operating systems, as this is a personal preference. I only think people should know the truth.

many config opts, easy to install, good price and reliable product. i have my appraisal office configured completely cat6; with all workstations using the intel pro 1000 lan cards; gigabit routers and switches on a t1 line. the difference is very noticeable. i highly recommend this lan card for users who need the speed and want the difference.

I bought this for my iBook G3 after the airport card stopped working. Installation was easy from the provided installation disk. Do note that once you install the software, you need to restart your computer. At this point, PLUG IN the USB adapter and go to System Preferences>Network. OSX recognizes a new device being used, so you have to click "accept" after your computer recognizes the device for the thing to start working.
It works quite fast on my home network.
The only PROBLEM I found with the device is that my CISCO VPN client does not recognize it as a Wireless card, so I was not able to connect to our secure wireless server at school. Our school uses WPA2 encryption which this device does not support. But, for home, non-VPN use, it works great.

This item is advertised to work as well on a Mac OS X 10.3 and above as it does on a PC. Well, yeah, but not quite. It has a tendency on some machines (most likely those older G4s without built-in wifi, that most folks would buy it for) to quit working and need to be removed and replugged in, after the machine has gone into sleep mode for awhile.

There is also a problem with it not loading properly from a restart, but addLogix has a patch available for that. So far nothing to fix the sleep mode problem.

On the plus side, when it does work, it works flawlessly. I think this would be a dynamite product for the Mac if addLogix would put a bit more R&D into the Mac driver.

I was finding a No Device message and strange dropouts until I noticed how hot this was getting. I was using the extender and I had placed it on top of a stereo audio device that was adding heat. Use the included adapter so it is surrounded by air (don't lay it flat on a surface) -- and connect directly to computer. Since then, very reliable and I used the statistics to optimize placement. Allows extreme 811.g level wireless speeds on my old flat screen iMac 17" -- I can use a slingbox on it with some patience. Would get 5 stars but had to troubleshoot on my own.

This card works fine. I would venture to say that almost all of the one-star ratings out there have working cards. When using this, or any other USB 2.0 cardbus you have to pay attention to the current draw of the devices you are plugging into it. High power devices require the use of the auxilliary power cable (the little circle plug in between the USB ports) to work properly. If you connect a high power device to this card and don't have the aux power cable attached, you will see erradic behavior ranging from 'Windows can't detect the device' to 'Windows lists the device in My Computer but gives error messages when attempting to transfer files or complete normal operations.' Results can even be intermittent if the current draw is close to the cardbus's current output threshhold. In any case you are not getting the expected performance, like the subject line says, read the f'ing manual.

It worked for about 2 weeks on my Inspiron (XP), but then wouldn't be recognized. I tried downloading the driver from IO Gear, but no luck.

It works, although I'm not getting faster preformance from the attached peripherals. It was easy to install. My Belkin wireless USB notebook adapter doesn't automatically connect to the internet now. It did before when it was plugged into a USB 1.0 hub. The internet connection speed is about the same.

I am going to get this and have seen some bad reveiws and i want to stranten something out, " IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK UNLESS YOURE SYSTEM IS COMPATIBLY, so check your system compatabilty since most likely if your buying it your system is melliniem or below and it won't work with the minimum either i have a 95 and i used some new hardware on it and my 95 met the minimum combatibility but didn't, so make sure youre above the combatability."

Limited compatability.......2007-08-30

I bought this for my Lexmark inkjet printer. Even though Lexmark is possibly the most common printer around, the Buffalo server wouldn't work with it. That's life. However, the real problem is that I called their tech support. Listed as being open 24/7. After holding for an HOUR, the phone was picked up, I heard someone talking to someone about the YANKEES, and then they hung up. I was steamed. I called back, and hung for another 20 minutes. I then processed my Amazon return while on hold with them. Bottom line, as you can see from other reviewers, this unit has limited compatability, and no tech support. If your time is valuable, skip over this and find something that is known to work.

No junk to install, set it up and forget about it........2007-07-25

I have used a variety of Print servers for my own personal use. Most it seems require you to install a variety of different software configuration utilities in order to work. Many of these utilities make it "easier" to install a Print server and set it up. However, these utilities are often only made for Windows and due to this they do not install as easily on other Operating systems. Thus, when I received this unit I expected a quick and easy set-up in Windows and a long 3-4 hour marathon to configure it within Mac OS X. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the case.

I configured the unit on a Windows system to start. The enclosed CD contains a Windows only utility that simply runs off the CD for initial configuration of the Print Server. Once the Print server was configured following the instructions in the manual were spot on in regards to Windows printer installation.

Next, I moved to what I expected to be a more difficult installation: Mac OS X. I attempted to follow the instructions given in the manual and found them to be out of date and thus they did not work properly. I then attempted to manually add the Printer connected to the Print server using Bonjour/Appletalk, this failed. I then proceeded to adding a new printer manually, selected IP Printer, typed in the Print Server's IP address (192.168.0.5 this will likely differ in your own configuration) and queue (P1) and selected the appropriate Printer driver from the drop down list box in the set-up window. I then attempted to print a test page and received pages of text indicating some sort of network error. Hoping all would be rectified by a reboot I rebooted the system and attempted to print again, this time the printer was configured properly and printed without fuss. I then proceeded to set-up the printer on another Mac system and after a reboot this computer could print easily as well. All in all installation on the first Macintosh PC took around 20 minutes, subsequent systems only took a few seconds (minus reboot times).

In the end the Print server works quite well. I greatly respect a company for not requiring me to install their own resource using utilities to install a Print server and I also respect their use of browser-based configuration of the Print server in case a Windows system is not around or the installation CD is lost. All in all the Print server exceeded my expectations.

Note: Many reviews indicate having to reconfigure the Print server using its installation CD when the router/Print server loses power. To fix this, simply have your router reserve an IP address for the Print server. This is easily done in almost all routers configuration menus.

Took at bit of effort.......2007-05-26

I connected this to an Epson Stylus Photo 870 for use with Mac OS X workstations and it didn't work right away. I downloaded the gimp-print open source drivers to get the printer to work via the LAN rather than the direct-connect USB it had been using. Information about the printer is not transmitted across the network connection as it is in the USB but the printing and quality is the same. We were willing to give up a bit of functionality for the convenience of not having to share the printer from a workstation (and constantly keeping that workstation powered-on).

Wireless Adapter.......2007-09-20

This wireless adapter is working well and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a PCI wireless adapter. Linksys was very clear that the adapter had to be installed before running the setup software. Pay attention to this. I ran into a problem installing the software, my own fault, and was not able to re-run the setup until I had uninstalled the software, deleted the device from my device manager, removed the adapter, rebooted, shut down, reinstalled the adapter, and started all over again. Once this was done I was able to re-run the setup again and all was well. Properly installed this is a fine product and the throughput is as advertised.

possibly incompatible with vista.......2007-08-24

just sharing my experience with this product. i have a shiny new laptop with the *ever-lovely* vista on it. inserted the expresscard - plugged in my new 250GB external hard drive - started clicking around but within 2 minutes got an I/O error. I unplugged everything, restarted and my hard drive now cannot be accessed. tried accessing my hard drive on different computers but to no avail.

so buyer beware - i'm not 100% positive what caused this to happen, may have been a fluke, but its not worth finding out the hard way. find another firewire expresscard port and make sure that its vista compatible. or even better, remove vista all together from your machine

i bought this expresscard thinking in audio benefits but this product only works with a rate transfer up to 200 mbps. It's a lie when it said that it's up to 400mbps because i tried with a m-audio audio card an didn't work because the rate transfer it't too too slow. Only works with a camera recorder of low quality. please if anybody want a good rate transfer, please don't buy this product

Beware MacBook Pro users.......2007-06-07

Although SIIG advertises that it works for the MBP, it did not. The light went on but it could not recognize any firewire devices. I brought it to an Apple store thinking it might be my system, but same problem. And I exchanged it for another, same problem. In addition, do not email SIIG for support. They take 2 business days to respond with one-sentence ridiculous answers. However, phone support seems to be better if you don't mind waiting on hold endlessly.

I have used the Firewire Expresscard with ease. It is easy to install (my computer recognized it immediately) and to remove. It has made my video uploads a breeze! The other nice thing was that I received it the day after I ordered it. I highly recommend this product. It is a great product at an excellent price.

Hard to find / Great price!.......2006-04-29

If you have recently purchased a notebook computer (particularly a Compaq or HP) you may find a strange looking port instead of the normal PCMCIA Cardbus slot. The new expresscard slots are not compatible with 99% of the PC cards available in the US, so I found myself ... well let's just say I was not happy that this was not properly explained to me when I purchased this notebook. I went on a mission to find a firewire port that would fit, as my main purpose for buying the notebook was to do video editing from a mini DV camcorder. Even the fine folks at HP tech support had no idea what I was talking about when I told them about the non-compatibility of their own product with what was on the market. When I asked where I could get the expresscard version of the firewire card, which I might add are found a dime a dozen in the standard cardbus version at any computer retailer, I was told by HP customer "service" that it was "easy to find," and that they don't recommend using "non HP" products. Well, that would be fine and dandy if HP made the thing, but they don't. I found expresscard.org and learned the true nature of the trend to switch to the newer format and was lucky enough to find what I needed here ... and at an amazing price I might add. I received the card in two days as ordered, clicked it into my expresscard slot and was up and running immediately as my notebook instantly recognized it. I am so happy, I found this when I did since I can't seem to find another one anywhere on the internet. Not one! If you happen to find this item or any other expresscard and you plan on upgrading your notebook in the near future you should jump on it. You can add DV camcorders, FireWire hard disks, digital cameras, scanners, CD-RW/DVD drives, video game systems, & other audio/video devices to your notebook with these cards. Eventually the cards should be easier to find but if you want the future tech for your notebook now this is a great buy.

My limit is 2 hours to get a driver + new hardware installed. After two hours I wasn't even close. I got it to drive a mouse, but what I really needed was to be able to connect a memory stick. Never happened. Don't buy this one. Look elsewhere.

Doesn't work with flash drives. Avoid this one........2005-04-09

Because this card DOES NOT come with a power adapter (the Belkin Cardbus card does, and I'm ordering one after I send this one back) it would not work with my flash drives. One it would not see at all, and the other it would see but not access.
I assume it works O.K. with low or non power devices such as USB keyboards or Mice, or with devices that have their own power supply such as an External USB hard drive, but I've tested neither. I just know this one is 15 dollars more, then you need to turn around and buy the adapter, which is not even listed on Amazon?
Also, the driver installation was a pain because after Windows XP installs its drivers, you have to disable all the USB controllers on the card, download the Adaptec driver, then it will install the Adapted drivers. That took me about an hour to find on the Adaptec website. I'm a technician and I do this kind of thing all day; it should not be this hard.
Avoid this one.

I bought this item after a bad experience with an ADS Technologies card (see my review for that one) that did not work. At first I was hesitant to shell out the cash for the Adaptec, but I was so desperate to find a USB2.0 PCMCIA card that did NOT require an AC adapter.

I have an HP Pavilion ZT1180 notebook, running XP Home SP2. Older, but a great notebook. The biggest drawback of my notebook is the lack of USB 2.0 ports (they are all USB 1.1). I needed a card that I could use with my 802.11 SuperG usb dongle and did NOT require an AC adapter. What's the point of being wireless if you still have to plug in the card!

The card is basically Plug and Play. I popped it into my notebook and it was rarin' to go (after the usual XP prompts to detect drivers, etc). I did not need to run the included CD-ROM, nor did I need to go to the Adaptec website for updated drivers. XP Home SP2 had the drivers for it. The card was able to support and provide enough power for my wireless USB dongle like a pro and I was able to surf at 108 mbps! I am EXTREMELY pleased with this card. I have not pushed the card by trying to install another usb device that would require power. There is a jack for an AC adapter, but no adapter was included with the product. You could probably pick one up easily at a Target or Radio Shack if necessary.

I have to say that it is worth the price (hence 5 stars) because of the power issue. Similar cheaper no-name or generic brand cards aren't capable of providing enough juice to power a simple USB dongle.

Here what I had to do to get the adapter to work:
- Go to the Adaptec Website, download the latest driver (Using the Model number on the adapter)
- Go to the Adaptec trouble shoot website and follow the instruction for work around to overwrite the WinXP SP2.
- Reboot then you will be fine.
I give it **** because of the above problem. Otherwise, it worked great with all my external devices( External Hard Drive, DVD burner ...etc)
Note: - Linux setup for this is a lot easier.
- Toshiba laptop may have lower voltage on the PCMCIA slot
so make sure to check it out.

A Plus for Plug N Play.......2004-01-07

I have a Sony 2.0 G VAIO with Windows XP. Under this environment it was just a matter of plugging it in and the drivers installed themselves automatically. I did not even have to open up the driver CD that accompanied the CardBus. Very impressive if you ask me. I am backing up my files as I am typing this with no problem onto my 160 G external hard drive using the fast USB 2.0 technology.
