A real workhorse. A bit hard to set up.

Firewire port failed.......2007-01-26

I have had the device for about 18 months. The Firewire 400 port failed. This is unacceptable. I purchased Iomega because I had a Iomega ZIP drive for most of a decade. It worked flawlessly.

Fortunately, this device has a USB and Firewire 800 ports. I purchased another cable and was back in business. Still: 18 months?

I think the important lesson is no matter waht external drive you purchase make sure that it has more than one port. I have read other reviews of exteral drives and it seems that the ports often go bad. I really would have been in trouble if this device had just one port.

Careful about software.......2006-11-03

The hard drive works fine but about a month after I bought it, Iomega sent me an e-mail letting me know they would no longer be supporting the software that came with the hard drive. Their solution - I had to buy the new software for $30, no discounts, no apologies.

wrong info on amazon.......2006-08-14

+ yes, it is a hardrive, and it behaves like one.

- however, amazon's info was wrong in that it only has 2mb of buffer instead of 8 as advertised.
- also, it doesn't boot my mac. iomega is especially incompetent trouble shooting this.
- power connector could be in the back, not together with all the other i/o in front
- now, do i get a heart attack and spend hours on the phone trying to exchange?
no, but lesson definitely learnt

next time i do what others did: buy an enclosure and a drive separately, at least you know what you get.

Work horse - highly recommend........2006-08-09

I did a lot of research before purchasing this product and all major publications gave it glowing reviews. I agree. I use the drive on a MAC for huge video files. It works great and pretty fast. ( average file size 1GB) I haven't had any problems in 6 months and am considering buying another one.
