Good product, but I don't like the scanner; Very Linux friendly........2006-02-24

The printing and copying are good. I have not tried fax yet.
I don't like the scanner. First, it does not have a flat scanning bed. It uses ADF ( just like a fax machine ). So you cannot scan any non-paper-based document, e.g. Driver's licence. Second, the scanning driver on the CD is broken (at least for WinXP Pro ). I had to go to HP website, downloaded and installed the new software ( almost 500M ). Before realizing I can do that, I spent at least an hour trying to get the old software to work. But anyways, It works now.
So overally, it is good, but the scanning part is disappointing. If you need scanning a lot, avoid this one.

I wish I could give it 4.5, because it is very Linux-friendly.
This is one of the few products I found that is easier to install on Linux than Windows. The related documentation can be found at http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_3015.
You just need to install HPLIP. If you use yum and FC, just need to do 'yum install hplip'. After that, add you printer in CUPS. 'lpr' should work now. Scanning is also very easy. I used xsane. Place the item in the ADF, and then hit xsane's 'scan' button, and it just works. Good job, HP.

If you have a small apt, and a budget, these will do.......2005-10-24

I live in a small 600 sq. foot apt. in NYC (Manhattan), and the walls are thin, while the floor is wood, so sound travels well to disturb neighbors. I was on a tight budget at the time (was saving for an engagement ring) but still had a sweet receiver that needed some decent speakers. The KLH caught my attention as it has been getting some good reviews and after playing with them in the store I was sold. The sound is great for DTS and Dolby 5.1 Digital, esp. where it's used well (Day After Tomorrow, Saving Private Ryan, and Band of Brothers). The subwoofer isn't the loudest (actually is pretty weak) but it was still loud enough to disturb the neighbors below, so I just leave it off now. The residual mid bass that comes through the speakers is good though. So if you're in a confined area like me and on a budget, these speakers might be good for you. If I ever move to an apt with thicker walls and floors though (or somewhere that I can be a little more "louder", I'm definitely going to upgrade the speakers.

Great Value.......2005-08-07

Build quality is very good considering the price. Subwoofer is adequate for small to medium size rooms. Satellites are plastic but have high quality woofers and tweeters. Included is a full set of brackets for wall mounting and some rather skinny wire sets which should be tossed and replaced with at least 16 gauge. Center channel is just a regular satellite but shielded. My subwoofer was mysteriously missing certain things on the back such as the polarity switch and auto on-off. Get one while you still can, its dirt cheap and so much better than a Bose Acoustimass system.

While the fidelity is not there for a Polk Audio man such as myself, its just fine for my son's (11 years old) movies and video games. Surprisingly good bass from a small sub, decent mids and highs from the satellites. Comes will all the mounting hardware. Comes well packed, even though the box was damaged in shipping all the items inside were fine. Recommended.

Not bad, but not great.......2004-11-18

I bought this set, hoping for a decent cheap set of speakers for my main home theater setup. The sound, for a main set of speakers, was not adequate for my needs. It was OK, but just OK. I have since retired this set to my bedroom, where it is adequate for occasional listening and enhancing my whole-house audio. (I am using two sats on each channel in this config -- gives a nicer, fuller sound.)

I like that the sub accepts speaker-level inputs, which you can then run the sats off of. This makes it ideal as an auxilary set for a den or bedroom, as it only requires one pair of speaker-level cables to work.

I just wish the sub had an auto-power-off. It doesn't. The sub is wonderfully low-profile, however, and fits under my bed nicely. But I have to turn the sub off manually when I go to sleep, otherwise the (very minor) hum keeps me awake.

Good price-point, just don't be expecting a world-class set of speakers. I'm not an audiophile, but I think this set would only be useful as a main set by someone who was a first-time home theater owner.

Got speakers from COSTCO for $77. DEAL!! Sounds great with 5.1 Phillips receiver but package didn't include brackets. Need to know if anyone has the speaker brackets and are not using them and would like to get rid of them.

can't get unwired.......2005-01-07

Small form factor, rugged anodized aluminum case, light-weight. Almost everything you could ask for. The combo (usb 2.0/firewire) version REQUIRES the power adapter to be plugged in at all times. This is the only down side. If you don't need firewire compatibility consider the "USB 2.0 only" version for hassle free use.

Less than expected....disappointed............2005-02-11

I got this stereo about three weeks ago. I was totally disappointed and am shipping it back to Amazon tomorrow a.m. I've been happy with JVC car stereo products, had a JVC boom box that lasted forever with great sound, and a JVC bookshelf stereo a couple of years ago that was great. The only reason I got rid of it was because it couldn't play MP3s. My first complaint which is huge for me, is that the sound quality is terrible. There is absolutely no range from highs to lows. I love all kinds of music. The first night I threw in a chilled trance CD to sleep to and I didn't even recognize it! I don't like heavy bass, but there was no bass! Also, there was no treble; it was like a muffled medium. I tried adjusting the treble and bass which was limited and only helped a little. The second problem I have is you can not dim the display like my former JVC. It must be an LED because it is so bright it could shine down an airplane. Not good in a pitch black bedroom when the stereo faces you. I know I could cover the display, but it doesn't seem right. The whole unit quality seems very cheap compared to my former bookshelf JVC. I had the Panasonic SC-PM39D, sound was great, but it was a monstrosity in size. If you are looking for a real "bookshelf"-size stereo that was not it. It was also really heavy for this category of stereo. I just ordered the JVC EX-A1 tonight. I've tested this at stores. It sounds great and is the size and look that I want. Downside is it's expensive, but I love music and you get what you pay for. If you go to Vann's Website (vs. through this Web site) you can get it with free shipping, no tax.

Oh wait, there was a positive. The radio (at least AM talk radio) works great! It came in very clean and clear, better then the Panasonic, but the Panasonic was by my PC and may have gotten interference from the PC.

Do youself a favor..........2004-09-25

...and save the return shipping by not buying it in the first place.
