The iPal is a beautiful and well-constructed piece of equipment. It has great tonal range for the single speaker and portable form. It should have been designed with a handle though.
It gets great reception although it can be subject to electrical interference when moving about the room. I find that fine-tuning the dial usually eliminates this completely.
The dials feel great to move. I love the tuner dial with the geared indicators, it is easy to tun it just right. Very smooth with just the right amount of resistance. You don't have to worry about bumping the dials on accident.
It has a solid, quality feel to it all around.
I've not used my iPod on it. It comes with a simple stereo mini jack male-male cable so any MP3/Tape/CD player would provide input.
I would recommend Tivoli Audio iPAL to any of my friends or family.
Great product.......2007-07-30
The iPAL is simply amazing. I'd used other speakers for the ipod before, but never got this kind of sound. It's a great little package that you can carry to the garden, garage or beach, plays as loud as you want, long time between charges and again, it sounds spectacular. Totally unexpected. The design is excellent- simple, sleek and extremely functional. The tuner works well also. It's so convenient, I've stopped listening to my stereo altogether.

I am so pleased with my purchase! Not having an iPod, it's difficult finding a quality product that is universal to any brand of mp3 player. The sound is very rich and full, and is ultra portable whether you are using it with your laptop, or taking it on a camping trip. The radio has amazing range and clarity. Also, the battery life is extraordinary - it outlasts my mp3 player!
Can't afford a Bose system? Don't have an iPod but want sound as good as the gizmo that only an iPod can fit in? This is the way to go. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing Sound For Such A Little Box.......2007-07-19
My criteria for purchase was this: I wanted a small radio with a small footprint which carried the best sound possible. Large box stores and other electronic stores carried nothing. I found the Tivoli on Amazon and purchased it due to reviews only. I was not disappointed in the slightest. I appreciate simplicity and the Tivoli is incredibly simple. Three dials: 1. on/off/band, 2. volume and 3. frequency dial. Radio produces rich, deep sound for music and voice. Has FM antenna, internal rechargeable batteries, recharging cord (radio can run off standard plug also). EXCELLENT sound. I may, in fact, end up purchasing another for a different room. For the price, for the size, for the simplicity, this radio yields astounding sound!
Tivoli PAL Radio is a fine product........2007-06-28
I own five of these radios. The quality, performance, and features are exceptional. I am quite pleased. Too bad the model I own only seems to be manufactured now as a new horizontal unit. The old vertical style had slightly more utility in a small space.

There's a lot to like about Internet radio, but sometimes you just want to catch the local NPR broadcast or listen to the ballgame without searching for a streaming audio feed. Griffin satisfies this urge with its RadioShark, an AM/FM desktop radio that plugs into your computer's USB port to broadcast the full spectrum of local radio. More impressively, the device also acts as a radio version of a digital video recorder, employing a technology called Time-Shift Recording to pause and rewind live radio (think TiVo). Time-Shift Recording lets a user pause a live interview, leave the desk for 15 minutes, and then return without missing a second of conversation. In addition, the RadioShark records radio in real time with the push of a button or records favorite programs via the VCR-like scheduling window. Griffin touts the device as a great way to take control of how and when you listen to the radio. And we agree for the most part, but with a major caveat.

Design and Setup
The slick-looking RadioShark is shaped like (surprise!) a shark fin, with a white plastic exterior that looks perfectly at home amidst a desktop full of Apple peripherals, including the ubiquitous iPod. This makes sense given Griffin's reputation as a manufacturer of Apple accessories. Installation is quick and easy thanks to the included CD-ROM, which comes with software installers for both Mac and PC. Users will need to be running OS X 10.2.8 or higher or Windows XP to operate the software, however. Once it's up and running, users can easily reposition the device to improve radio reception and recording quality, though we didn't have any problem picking up the signals in our notoriously reception-poor region. Listeners can also add an external antenna to the rear jack should reception prove spotty.
Features and Performance
Listening to the radio with the RadioShark is as simple as flipping a switch. The basic yet intuitive software interface includes frequency and volume sliders, along with band, seek, and record buttons. It takes but a fraction of a second to change stations, and the signal responds immediately. The audio quality isn't terrific, but it's just fine given the circumstances (FM radio through computer speakers). Recording is also quite easy, whether it's for five seconds or five hours. Once you turn it off, the files save conveniently as either AIFF or AAC files (Mac) or WAV files (PC) in your computer's designated music directory, where you can listen to them later or export them to other applications. Alternately, Mac users can choose to import their recordings directly into iTunes for added convenience. This is particularly cool for iPod users, who can record songs or programs from the RadioShark and then listen to them later while on the move.
The Time-Shift feature, which offers a continuous 30-minute recording loop, is also quite convenient. Should you pause or rewind a segment, you can easily rejoin the live broadcast by clicking the fast forward button. The RadioShark also continues to record the live broadcast while you're checking out the archived footage, ensuring that you don't miss a second. And should you want to permanently record a Time-Shifted song or program, you can just hit record and it's done. A couple of other convenient features include an equalizer with several preset settings and an easy-to-follow scheduling window for upcoming recordings. Listeners can even set the RadioShark to record hourly, daily, or weekly programs.
Unfortunately, thanks to a few serious hiccups, these scheduled recordings may never come to pass. Specifically, if you let your computer drift off to sleep, the RadioShark responds by disconnecting from the software. The only way to sync it back up is to unplug the Shark and start again, but in the process, listeners lose all their scheduling information. This problem appears persistent in both Macs and PCs, though Griffin's web site says Windows users shouldn't experience the problem. Griffin recommends disabling the sleep preference as a solution, but that's inconvenient for a number of reasons. As an alternative, users can reconnect the device each time it fizzles, but that's also a pain and makes the scheduling window virtually obsolete. Until Griffin releases an update, the sleep issue will remain a major drawback.
We also experienced a few skips while using the Time-Shift feature. These weren't standard static interruptions, but sounded more like sporadic CD skips--sometimes several to a song. This wouldn't be a big deal when listening to conversational radio such as NPR, but if you're trying to record music, it could be a real drag.
But it's the sleep issue that really prevents us from giving the RadioShark an enthusiastic recommendation. Should the recording problems steer listeners away from the RadioShark? Not necessarily, unless scheduled recording is the main reason you're drawn to the machine. The radio and Time-Shift features are still pretty cool, and the RadioShark offers one of the easiest ways to record live radio into digital formats. But it does put a damper on an otherwise great product. --Rivers Janssen

Great item for the price........2007-09-07
I got the radio shark to replace my stereo that died. It not only does that but adds a radio recorder to my tools. I can save audio recordings directly to iTunes. There is updated software that enhances the radio shark experience, but it also leaves out one or two features from the old software version I thought should be carried on to the new.
Dislikes are it is not the best on reception, but local stations come in very clear. Wish it had a way to connect to an external antenna. This would help in boosting the reception part.
Overall a good buy and a cool way to have what the old macs had. One more point is that it is stated on the package it is for 400mhz G3 macs, but is recommended for G4s and up. I have a 700mhz G3 and it seems to work just fine on it.
I Love This Thing!.......2007-06-27
It does what it says! I can record my favorite talk shows and listen to them when I want. The player could be a little nicer but it works fine. I get pretty good reception after I played with the placement of the antenna a little bit. If it's too close to the speakers and monitor, it would pick up noise. It is the best investment I have made for my pc in a long time!
Find another FM tuner for your Mac or PC.......2007-05-26
This was probably the worst investment I've made for my computers ever. The signal is weak, and if you're more than one wall indoors, forget about getting anything worthwhile. Unless you try one of the many hacks for increasing the power to this device or have an external power supply/antenna for it, you won't catch too many radio stations.
My advice: Stay Away from this product. There's a reason why it disappeared from store shelves so quickly.
Great concept.......poor software and reception.......2007-05-14
I bought this to record lectures that were broadcast over an in-house fm signal. I've done this before with a portable mp3 recorder and had fine results but thought I could set this up to do it automatically and have the files saved on my computer. I was disappointed that the recordings I made with the radioshark had static in them so the reception must be very weak. Also the software left alot to be desired. I ended up returning this product and went back to setting up my mp3 fm/recorder manually to do the job.

Radio Shark is dead easy to set up and works every bit as good as advertised. True, you need to keep your computer on during the broadcasts, but I have no problem with that considering the superior functionality.

Great Sound For Its Size.......2006-06-02
This is a great sounding radio for its size. As a test, I put the volume up to maximum to hear the expected distortion ... THERE WASN'T ANY! Even though it was only a few seconds (my neighbors and my hearing could only take so much noise), the sound was still clear. And even though it's just a single speaker radio, you can't beat the price for the quality of sound, especially the bass. The large tuning knob allows for fine tuning and feels comfortable for those of us with larger hands. There is an auxiliary input for my iPod, which requires the volume to be increased somewhat on both the iPod and the radio but the sound is still very good. The overall size of the radio and the amount of sound it produces will surprise you. I whole-heartedly recommend this radio. It deserves 5 stars!
Excellent sound & cool looks!.......2006-04-30
When my old Radio Shack kitchen radio finally died, I researched my options for a replacement & found many high-end 'table radios' (e.g. Bose & Tivoli, costing way more than I was willing to spend), lots of junk in the clock radio category (I don't need another CD player in the kitchen, thanks), and very little in the middle. Then I found this beauty & read the reviews.
For me, great sound & good reception are most important. This one has both, plus a retro look that's easy on the eyes, with a nice wood finish. This one has terrific sound--good bass through the port & a mellow midrange. Reception is quite good, too. It's a solid value, if all you need is a tabletop radio.
Deep Sound/Cool Looks.......2006-03-18
This radio has impressive deep full sound for one speaker and it looks way better in person than it does in the picture. The airline dial is super cool as are the colored lights. Perfectly finished wood, nice aluminum features & solid feel. Modern art/flash gordan futuristic look. And you can hook your iPod/portable CD player up with the AUX in, how sweet is that?
Fabulous Radio.......2005-12-31
I usually don't write reviews for products, but after I received my radio I was blown away by both the sound and its look. The bass is deep and rich while the sound is amazingly clear and vibrant. The Comet sounds much better with one speaker than my Sony Dream Machine does with two. I had originally considered buying a Tivoli Model One but I found the price tag too high. The FM reception on my comet is crystal clear. I am not lying when I tell you that the comet sounded just as clear with slightly better bass response. I am amazed.

Eventhough this is made by the same folks that make Panisonic stuff it works great! It has lot of cool stuff, like a blue light that lights up the display, you may want to turn this off or on. On with all the lights off and some jazz playing makes for a great night! Some lowlights are, it only holds one CD so you have to keep getting up and changing the CD when you are done. It has another good feature called CD Text, this will list the songs for you on a screen. You can have it scroll or just view a portion of the title. (Not all CD's have this option) Check this out. GREAT PRICE 2!

With it's cool blue lights, this micro-system really has an incredible look. Even tough it's very small, the sound comes comes loud and clear. You can play your music as loud as you want without a bit of distortion! The only negative point I see would be the cassette player which looks very nice but maybea little cheap and complicated: a door similar to the one of the CD player opens and a little rack pulls out.

Although there are four separate components and plenty of dials, toggles, and buttons, this is not the set for tinkerers who demand control of the sound. There's a button that gives you enhanced bass and a dial that supplies fine tuning of the tweeter, and that's it! Not even the ability to balance the speakers. The flip side of course is simplicity, and simplicity is the name of the game from assembly to operation of these handsome components and speakers. Just link everything together, plug it in, and enjoy impressive sound. Impressive, that is, for everyone but those who want to rattle the walls with amplified rock and loud orchestral compositions. They should look elsewhere. But for those who, like my wife and I, live in snug apartments and whose tastes run to small-group jazz and classical chamber music with emphasis on solo piano, violin, guitar, sax, and trumpet, Technics has put together a terrific audio system. Just squeeze it in wherever there's room and let it fill your space with warm, balanced sound.

Alright for all you people who have previously owned mini disc players, you know the awesome quality. Now try adding to that to 2 very good subwoofers. You know what you get? The BEST! I happened to buy this in the store for alot more than this costs at Amazon so I am thinking about ordering this one and taking my old one back. This is an excellent product at an excellent price. this machine works great it is awsom it is cool that you can record from cd to mini disc. I wish that they would make a cd player with a cd-rw but I dowt it will happen. hope this helps you
