Could've been me, or bad connections. Who knows, but after fooling around with it for quite a while I was able to get either a good steady B&W transfer, or a garbled color transfer. Needless to say, I returned the product.

The Plextor AV200U is probably the better choice out of all of the video capture devices that are out on the market right now. It works exactly the way it's supposed to! I found the item easy to install and use. It was pretty expensive, but I think it was worth it!

This capture card can be used for anything capture! Capture and record video from cameras, VCRs, TVs, video game consoles, etc! As long as it has AV-inputs, or S Video inputs, you can capture from it!

I purchased this product so that I could capture video game play from my Xbox 360. People looking to do this should be aware that one needs more than this capture card in order to successfully capture game play for editing/creating montages! If you were to only have a capture card, and you plugged your console directly into the capture card, you would not be able to see what you are doing on your TV. You'll be able to see on your computer, but there is about a 1 second delay in movements... What you'll need to solve this is to buy splitters. If you have AV-inputs, you'll need AV (or audio video) splitters so that you could connect the AV to the capture card AND your TV! You should have a total of 3 splitters for Audio(YELLOW), Left(WHITE), and Right(RED) in-puts. For S Video users, just get two audio splitters, and an S Video splitter. [...]

The only negative thing about this product (that made me give it a 4 instead of 5 stars) is the capture/editing program that comes with this product really stinks! It's called WinDVD Creator. Not only does the program crash A LOT when your editing video, but there aren't many video effects to add to your video at all, AND all of the video captured with this program can only be edited by that program only. You can't capture with this program and use something like Windows Movie Maker (WMM) and edit it there, which is much better. You can't even use WMM to capture video with this capture card!
The program that IS good, on the other hand, is Sony Vegas. Not only can you use this capture card to record with it, but the video effects are pretty much endless, and the program does not crash!!! It does cost quite a bit though.

THIS MACHINE MIGHT WORK OK IF PLEXTOR WOULD GET THE RIGHT SOFTWARE FOR IT BECAUSE IT STINKS. I COULD NEVER GET IT TO WORK RIGHT AND THIS IS AFTER I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH PLEXTOR FOR AROUND 10 TO 15 HOURS FOR THREE DAY PLUS MANY EMAIL BACK AND FORWARD TO THEM. STAY AWAY AND GET A GOOD TV CARD.

nice capture but problematic software/drivers.......2003-12-27

As with a lot of computer peripherals the hardware is fine but the software is not. The drivers installed fine on XP but didn't work properly. I downloaded and updated the drivers (a bit of a tedious process) and it worked better but there are major problems.

The software hangs a lot. It seems to have a hard time communicating with the device. Once I got it to actually record something the quality was good. You CANNOT use this device to backup your videos or DVDs that you OWN, because it shuts off if it detects the Macrovision copy protection signal. This is the biggest minus in my opinion. I'm not trying to pirate movies here, I just want to back them up (as is provisioned by law). Shame on you, Plextor. (You can buy a filter that strips out the Macrovision signal so what is the point of this inconvenience?)

In summary: The hardware is good. The drivers are horrible. It is really only useful for recording your home movies or maybe live broadcast (didn't try that).

Buy or don't buy? Pass on this product unless you don't mind hassle and inconvenience.

I e-mailed Plextor a couple of weeks ago trying to find out if this unit will work with VISTA. They just told me NO, and suggested their PX-AV200U. I was looking forward to a more higher end DVC from them since I own several of their DVD drives for my computers. :-( Guess I will shop around...Terry, Hayward, CA

Does what it promises.......2007-05-14

Plextor always has great products. I was able to install and use right away. Moved old VHS family video to DVD with no problems at all. The software it comes with is decent. I found Roxio Easy Media Creator works well with it although 8 better than 9 at this point. 9 had issues with gaps between videos that caused it to crash. So if you have 9 just use the software it came with to import the videos and Roxio is still great at editing and adding extras.

Great Quality and Easy to Use.......2007-05-09

This is a great little unit that encodes real time. I am happy with the quality from a VCR, the quality will depend on the source tape of course. I have not used a digi-video camera yet.
Setup was no problem, just make sure you update all drivers, firmware, and software for best performance.
The software is pretty basic but gets the video on to the computer without any issues. If you want to do fancier editing, then you just need to use a more complete video editor.

The only issue is that the first unit i got would not record/send the left channel audio. I returned the unit to Plextor and got a working one. Kind of a bummer, but Plextor customer service is the best i have ever worked with. I will always suggest plextor hardware to anyone after this experience.

All in all, i am pleased with the quality of the files and feel it was worth the money.

Plextor delivers after a bit of effort.......2007-03-15

For the price, the Plexor Digital Video Convertor works as well as I had hoped. But, be prepared to call the Plextor tech line to get the software to work properly. Once I talked to a tech and he helped me get my computer settings changed... virus protector had to be turned off before the software would load properly... I was able to start downloading video from my VHS tapes. It's working well now but I have had a couple of instances where the software shuts down and looses anything I haven't saved... So... SAVE FREQUENTLY!! I try to save my changes every 15 minutes or so. I have not finalized a movie yet but I am having fun adding titles and the transistions. I'm looking forward to finishing up my 21 year old son's movie of his life, to present to him at his college graduation party! He'll be so impressed with his "technically challenged" mom.

Hardware OK, software lame.......2007-03-08

The hardware works fine. According to the reviews of other capture devices, some of them run hot or have audio-video sync problems. This one has neither fault.

The bundled software is another story. It caps the files it generates to at most 4 GB, which means a 2-hour capture is split across two files. Since it also makes each file added to a DVD into a top-level menu item on the DVD, this muddies the authoring phase. It also insists on putting an icon in the system tray at boot. The software does have one feature though: it allowed me to capture video + mono audio from one source, whereas other software wouldn't because audio was missing from the right channel. I wound up using another DVD authoring package that offered the features I wanted, for all but that one mono source.

I'd buy this product again but clearly there's room for improvement in the video capture realm.

This is gagdet is doing well in transferring video tape into DVD collection. It is quite easy. But the software that comes with the package is 90% useless. I only use the software for capturing. I use NERO suite for editing, creating chapter, and buring.

Easy to Use! Excellent Picture Qualiity! .......2007-02-03

I have owned my PX-AV100 for more than a year, and have had great results. I have used the device for converting home movies, capturing video from an old cam-corder to my laptop, and even as a web-cam.

I use the PX-AV100 with an old cam-corder and my laptop. It makes a great "poor man's" digital camera. Attach my old cam-corder to the PX-AV100, attach the USB cable to the computer, and I am ready to record. The software records directly to my laptop, saving video and sound as an MPG file. Easy. You can also connect a VCR to the PX-AV100 and convert video tapes to digital files. I have even used the above scenerio to stream video over the internet!

Although the bundled software does a great job capturing the video, the remaining features are lacking. Capturing the video couldn't be easier. But if you want to make a DVD with this software, the menus, and buttons are plain and limited. However, you can use other DVD authoring software out there... to create/burn your DVDs. For the price, the software is adequate. You get what you pay for. You can't expect Theatrical Productions from a bundled software, for under 80 bucks! If you are new to making your own DVDs, the bundled software is perfect. If you are an experienced user, you might find a more advanced (and more expensive) movie making software.

Remember... the captured video will only be as good as the camera or video feed you connect to the PX-AV100. If you connect a camera with poor focus, dirty lens, etc... you can exepct a less than perfect DVD or digital video. If you connect a VCR with poor tracking, you will get a DVD or digital video that is less than perfect.

Overall, I am very pleased with this box, and will be purchasing a second PX-AV100 soon.

In the RC-QN1 compact portable CD boombox, JVC fuses ease of use with good sound and particularly stylish appearance to deliver one of the best portable-music bargains around.

The RC-QN1 includes a CD player, cassette deck, and tuner that you can turn on with the touch of a button on the remote using JVC's Compu Play feature. For tonal variety, the unit offers three equalizer presets to choose from, not counting "flat" (no equalizer): Clear, Pop, and Beat. We preferred the Beat preset, even on classical music, as this setting offered the fullest bass response. Placing the RC-QN1 against a wall increased the bass, but keep in mind that this positioning can produce "boomy" or muddy sound depending on the player or speaker.

The RC-QN1's ergonomic design allows easy insertion and removal of CDs. The tuner conveniently determines its 15 FM and 15 AM memory settings through a brisk walk up the radio dial, pausing to record the strongest stations. Unfortunately, accessing those presets is not as convenient as you have to skip all the way to 15 just to get to the last station--even with the remote.

The RC-QN1 played louder than anticipated and without distortion or undue compression, rounding out our high opinion of its sound-to-dollar ratio.

After much research, I was convinced that I wanted to buy the Phillips AZ-2000 until I realized it had an analog tuner whereas the JVC had a digital one for a lesser price. I was pleased when I received my set to find that it was very fashionable, with it's cool blue look (better than the picture illustrates). The remote has all the feautures I could desire. My only disappointment is that it doesn't control the volume. The cool thing about the remote is that you don't need a direct line of sight to control the unit, you can point it just about anywhere and it'll still work. The JVC also has the added convenience of a sleep timer and it sounds better than most radios in it's class.

I was looking for a portable CD/tape player for a gift and at this price, I could afford to be generous. I was concerned about the white/blue/black casing, but when I opened the box, I thought the unit was quite attractive and much better looking than in the picture. I have a JVC boombox and expected this portable would have slow, smooth opening CD and tape doors and not the "pop" opening quality of other portables; I was not disappointed. There isn't much you can do on a portable without an equalizer, but the multiple sound settings (beat/pop/clear/flat) did improve the sound quality. The sound was adequate for a bedroom. The delivery was also excellent: I ordered this JVC boombox on Friday and it was delivered by Tuesday a.m. I would recommend this unit.

I bought this boombox for my office, which is a cubicle and only partially closed in. The sound is SO CLEAR, that I can get a GREAT sound quality at a low volume, and it doesn't disturb anyone else in the office. The jazz, the classical, the hip-hop and the gospel music all sound fantastic!! I am very pleased with this product, I am going to purchase another one just like it for my home. And the price is even more fantastic!!

I am not a technical person when it comes to audio electronics, but this boombox well exceeded even my husband's expectations. It has a sleep timer, remote control and lots of features. The sound is great and how often do you find a CD player, cassette and AM/FM radio? Not often. received the unit 3 days after purchase..styling and features wereacceptable...REMOTE CONTROL WILL NOTCONTROL VOLUME..makes it sorta useless..sounds okay...
