A special multipin cable transmits audio from the source unit to the subwoofer, which in turn amplifies audio for the subwoofer signal and the left/right speakers. I've had it for about 2 years not and it hasen't messed up once. Though when bought this it was top of the line but you can now buy MP3s for almost the same price, maybe 20 bucks more...but it will have like 3x the memory. Don't buy this now unless you plan to upgrade later (maybe get smart and invest in a Ipod...i did and that works fine too)Just my opinion.

Just got this lock, and am very happy with it. Fits onto my nu HP seamlessly.
Lock has gotten a bad rap from other reviewers because of unrealistic expectations in my opinion.
I'm sure cable can be snapped easily, probably even with heavy-duty scissors. It's no vault, but is a deterrent to a would-be strong-armed robber, and should give you some piece of mind when you leave it on the table for a few minutes when you go to the bathroom at Starbucks. That's it. It's excellent for that purpose and nothing more.
If you need more of a lock, absolutely don't buy this.

Thief friendly.......2005-05-16

Having owned this product for a few months i was happy and convinced of it's security, mainly for its stopping of the opportunistic thief. But i was convinced that it would halt somebody more determined.... This was where i let a cocky kid with a pair of pliers have a go at cutting through the cable. Imagine my horror when i heard a 'snip'.
Result - good for the look of security, bad if your local hoodlum has pliers on them.
Gutted.
