I purchased this adapter to connect my Home Office PABX to my computer running Windows Vista Premium. I simply plugged it in, Windows found the driver (I didn't even need to use the included CD), connected to the PABX and had immediate communcations. Absolutely a no hassle solution to a new tower without rs232!

Micro Innovations cable is Mac-compatible.......2007-01-15

It took me some time to find a Mac-compatible USB to serial cable. Many cables which are claimed on the internet to be Mac-compatible did not work. One important condition is the Prolific PL2303 chipset. This cable has the chipset and a standard driver (via Apple support pages) worked fine. Excellent product and relatively cheap. I am using an iMac G5 with OS-X 10.4

Perfect for The Garmin Etrex Vista.......2006-03-21

I bought this because my Dell 9300 didn't have a serial port. This adapter works great with my PC and Etrex Vista. The drivers loaded easily and in no time at all I was updating the maps on my GPS. If you want to use a USB with your Vista this is the converter to get. But remember, just because you are connecting via USB doesn't mean you will be transffering data at that rate. I transfered 13.5 MB worth of data to my Vista and it took just over 40 minutes. Other than that though, no complaints at all. Buy this over the Garmin which is + or - $50. FYI - Make sure you already have the PC transfer cable that came with your Vista. Without it you won't be able to transfer anything.

Works flawlessly on Windows XP SP2.......2005-04-10

Worked perfectly without a hitch on Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I develop BREW games for cell phones and unfortunately, my Dell laptop doesn't have an RS232 port to connect to my data cables. I bought a cable on eBay for $15 but the BREW AppLoader Software would not recognize the phones despite the fact that the correct COM port was recognized.

Upset, I then bought this one from Amazon.com for nearly the same price. Installed the drivers and could connect perfectly.

Now I can't vouch for whether this works on FreeBSD or Linux or Mac or _insert_other_operating_system_here_, but I can say I'm extremely happy I've finally got a USB-to-RS232 cable that simply works with Windows XP SP2.

Poorly supported and not reccommended........2005-03-13

I want to use my GPS with my computer. I don't have a serial port, so I bought this converter based on other people saying they had purchased it for use with a GPS. The description here gives no OS limitations. The cable showed up and said that it was only for Windows. I decided to give it a try anyway. My FreeBSD box seemed to recognize it, but my ibook didn't. I have GPS software for the ibook, not for FreeBSD. A quick search of google turned up pages talking about this cable and its poor support. There used to be mac drivers, but not anymore. All the links to support pages for both the company that made the cable and the company that made the embedded chip were dead links. I eventually found a site with drivers for the embedded chip and installed them. My GPS software then saw the usb serial connection, but all attempts to communicate with the GPS produced an error.

I suggest avoiding this cable, and this company, at all costs.
