Product Description
LINKSYS WAP54G - Wireless-G is the emerging 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B ( 802.11b ) products found in homes, businesses and public wireless hotspots around the country. The best part is, since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices talk to existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.
Amazon.com Product Description
The Linksys Wireless-G access point lets you connect Wireless-G (802.11g ) or Wireless-B (802.11b) devices to your network. Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate your network clients to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow.
For more information on the differences between an access point and a router with access point, see the following table:
To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G access point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility.
Wireless-G is the upcoming 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country--but since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also work with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.
Future-proof your wireless network with the Linksys Wireless-G access point. You'll enjoy Wireless-B connectivity today, and be prepared for a high-speed Wireless-G tomorrow.
The Linksys Wireless-G access point is compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.

Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere--without wires. Outside the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, and airports--great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer.
Which Wireless Standard Is Right for Me?
Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use.
Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed.
For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time:

Bad pricing segment.......2007-09-15
ok AP if you just want a transparent access point on your home network or SOHO. Because it is transparent I don't think the price was right, it should be $20 bucks or less. I would highly recommend purchasing the router/firewall AP version which is better value for the money.
Good if looking for wireless G.......2007-09-14
I live in an old (circa 1855) stone house. This WAP is in one corner of the house and is used for a computer in a far corner of the house. Works pretty well over that distance as well as being able to handle multiple connections. If starting a new network I suggest moving up to N standard.
Used as an Access Client need Two of these........2007-09-10
I wanted to connect a wired computer to my wireless network, so I bought one of these, and a WRT54G router (which I needed anyway) which claims to act like a Access Point (it does but..), spent several hours attempting to configure it. Then used the on line linksys help (via the web) and then was told that in Access Client mode, this device will only connect to another WAP54G device. So bought the second one, configured the first to be an access Point, and the second one to be an access client. (pretty quickly as I'm now very familiar with the web based interface) And it works!
First, it's a bit unnerving because have to configure each of the two devices one at a time using a computer attached to your router. Be sure to set the IP address to different numbers. And you have to use WEP encription, no other option appears to work. And once you have both with seperate IP addresses you can configure everything but setting the AP CLient mode. Do that last with just the client mode box attached to your router.
Then to test it, first disconnect the AP Client from the router, then be sure that the other Access Point is connected and reachable (bring up the web page), then disconnect your computer from the router, and plug it into the AP Client box. It should work.
A couple of notes, the AP Client works with the WRT54G router/Access Point IFF you turn all the encryption off. (This is why I spent so much time before calling in the online help. I kept thinking I had it set up correctly, then turning up the security levels and having it fail....) Of course I do not recommend this mode at all. Which makes me wonder why you can't make a WRT54G do the right thing, but you can't. And there is a diagram on the linksys website which shows the correct configuration. It just took me several looks to understand exactly what it saying. (that the WRT54G in access point mode is not equivalent to a WAP54G).
Second, skip the stupid installation CD, go to the linksys site and find out the default IP address, and configure it using that.
Third, look up the suggestions for increasing the security for your wireless network, and configure your boxs appropriately once you have it working on your test machine. (turn off SSID broadcast, disable configuration management from wireless devices, change the password etc.)
Be sure to use a different channel than your other wireless router. (I still wanted to connect a different computer wirelessly to the WRT54G) And use the search for networks scan to see what channels the neighbors are using and pick a different one from them too if possible.
On the speed issue, I've got a pretty small house so I regularly get the full 54Mps of data transfer. It's pretty nice. You need to pay attention to all the other comments about getting the antennas aligned to point from each of the two access points to each other for best reception. Not hard, but worth doing.
And if all this becomes too confusing, use the Web based help from Linksys, the person I had was very helpful. (Be sure that your drivers are the most up-to-date as that will be the first thing they will ask you to do.)
a disaster.......2007-09-01
I purchased this Access Point to augment the range of my WRT54G router which, installed next to my PC on the third floor, would not reach a wireless laptop on my second floor or beyond. Following the CD's instruction I promptly got stuck, lost my server connection, and spent 4 hours talking to a service representative of Linksys before I was told I had a "defective" unit because the power light on the Access Point showed "red". A return and replacement shipment was arranged at the cost of $30 to me. The replacement proved that it too had a red power light which, I now know, is perfectly correct! Again following the CD's instructions I lost its remaining portion after wanting to change the channel. Another lengthy phone conversation finally taught me that there is no need to connect the Access Point with the router - as the instructions tell - and that the Access Point could be placed elsewhere in the house. A very complicated two hours of guidance, and very complicated settings guidance, eventually lead me to place the Access Point on the second floor and I can now connect my wireless laptop on all floors. What a nightmare! And what lousy instructions! I'd not buy another Linksys product. Getting things done is just too much of a headache!
Great for the money.............2007-08-23
I have 3 of these, 2 are used for a bridge and the other is used as an AP. The bridge is between 2 buildings with some trees in between and about 500' apart. My connection is setup with WEP and I have a reliable connection that runs about 15 mbps. After installing a pair of HGA7T's (7db ant.) my rates now run at 24 mbps. The AP has 4 clients and has been great. The flexibility and performance of this unit is great for the money. For use in homes and small offices, I would highly recommend this unit.
Product Description
The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network. At home, use the Bridge to connect game consoles, set-top boxes, or computers to your Wireless-G network and its shared high-speed Internet connection. In the office, convert your Ethernet-wired printer, scanner, camera, notebook or desktop into a wireless networked device.
Customer Reviews:
Wow! It works so well!.......2007-09-18
This gadget is simply amazing. I had no trouble whatsoever setting it up or using it. Unlike some other products, it does exactly what it is supposed to and does it well. I used it to hook up a connected digital copier, and the copier never knew the difference. It was beautiful.
The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star is that it does not suport WPA2 security. It does support WPA, which is good enough. I didn't want to get involved with WEP, because it's so easy to break. Once they give it WPA2 support, it will be perfect.
I have to say that the people who rate this product poorly probably don't know what they're doing with networking hardware anyway. This has a very easy set-up process; I did it manually (w/o using the CD) in 5 minutes. I can't attest to the setup wizard's functionality or lack thereof, but it is totally unnecessary. Just plug the thing into the router wired, type 192.168.1.226 in a web browser, and configure the wireless settings. Then it will save settings and reboot, the wireless will log on, and any time you turn it on, it will log back on wirelessly. That's how it provides a bridge effect.
A very good product. I would highly recommend it.
Linksys Wireless Bridge.......2007-08-21
Hookup was easy. Setup was more complicated than it should have been. Most
all other adapters etc. will find all available ssid systems and give you
a choice of which to choose. In this case the default ssid was set to
Linksys. The Linksys access point default ssid is set to linksys. See the
difference? "linksys...Linksys" the ssid is case sensitive. That held me
up for a few hours. If you don't know what to look for it is like trying
to find a needle in a haystack. Would not have been a problem except my
eyesight is not to well these days. Outside of that, no problem. Works fine
and does what it is supposed to. My HD-DVD player can connect and download
the latest firmware and access internet content with the HDDVD features.
Not as good as expected.......2007-08-16
I had nothing but problems with this unit at first. I ended up having to call customer service to get it set up. Then I was informed that it was a common problem I was having. They told me I cannot reset the unit or I'd have to call them to get it set up again. Very disappointed! Now that I got it working, it works great. I just have to be sure not to touch the reset button.
owned the wet11 for 4 years.......2007-08-13
Good product, crappy doc and support. Best example is the password for the online interface. It is listed as Admin "BLANK" password "admin"... well you must use admin/admin to get in. After spending 2 hours on that it certainly tainted my view of the product :-). Other then that it is a real pain to change the default IP address for the home network our of the 192.168....
Make sure you turn off Norton firewall and "worm" protection or you won't see it on your network.
The Right Product!.......2007-07-26
Excellent solution for upgrading our older Mac G4 with our new high speed Verizon FIOS internet service. Works without a problem once configured.
Product Description
The AirStation Wireless-G High Speed Router is the successor to Buffalo's highly popular WHR-G54S model. The product combines new, improved features with the same robust performance as its predecessor such as Buffalo's AOSS technology and 4-port 10/100 Auto-Sensing switch. Users will also benefit from an external switch, which easily allows the product to change from a router to a bridge. Router Mode shares a cable or DSL connection with multiple wired or wireless devices while Bridge Access Point Mode quickly adds wireless access to an existing LAN. For added convenience, the Smart Router automatically detects and configures a cable or DSL Internet connection making set-up a quick and easy. The combination of push-button wireless, easy Internet set-up and modest pricing make this router the ideal companion for any home network.
Customer Reviews:
Great router with an incredible amount of punch.......2007-09-20
I bought this as a second router. My first, a Linksys WRT54G, was having trouble successfully transmitting a signal from my upstairs computer room downstairs to our living room where I commonly use my laptop and where we have a Slim Devices Squeezebox set up attached to our stereo. The signal would often drop out entirely and would hover between 1 and 2 bars for minutes at a time.
Then, I brought in this Buffalo unit, installed DD-WRT on both and ran WDS between then. This router has so much 'punch' that now I only use the Linksys to get internet connectivity to the Buffalo router - it broadcasts its signal at 4 or 5 bars throughout my entire house.
Two thumbs up on this router! I will be buying Buffalo for any of my future router needs.
First reliable router I've ever used.......2007-09-10
I've used many linksys routers over the years and have always been disappointed by their reliability. For the first time, I can use a router and not have to constantly unplug/replug and reset and reconfigure to get things working.
Setup was more difficult than with other routers, and I was really disappointed that it didn't come with a client for the Mac to configure. I ended up booting my mac into Windows, running the client, then found that it still wasn't working properly. I then reset it and used the web interface to get it up and running. Considering I'm a highly technical person, I wouldn't recommend this router to someone without a good understanding of routers.
Since getting it all configured, I'm very happy with my router. I've been using it for weeks and haven't had to reset or unplug it a single time.
The WHR-G125 worked for me........2007-09-03
My need was to get an Internet connection at a cottage approximately 100 meters from the main house where the DSL modem was connected. I purchased two of these AirStations and set them in Access Point mode. I plugged the DSL modem into AirStation A. I plugged my cottage computer into AirStation B. I am now able to access the Internet from my cottage. This is a very easy and cost-effective solution.
The lack of a removable antenna seems to be a point of contention for some people. I placed the AirStations in windows that are almost line-of-sight to each other, so I as yet have no need for an external antenna as far as this deployment goes. I have nothing negative to say about the performance I get with these units, though it would be nice to have a signal strength meter.
My cottage microwave oven would sometimes interfere with the signal on Channel 11, so I set it at Channel 1. I have had no problems since then. Check your own microwave to see if it may create interference on your selected channel. Also, get rid any 2.4 GHz cordless phones, since I have heard they will be a problem. I am not using any third-party firmware upgrades. This unit is 100% stock.
After 3 hours wasted, returning this very poor product..........2007-09-01
Extremely difficult installation. Like another reviewer, my husband and I are not computer illiterates! What a POS this is. Worse than the product is the tech support... perpetually on hold with no recording that indicates the estimated remaining minutes until an agent will answer. I'm very disappointed in this company (Buffalo) and I will never purchase their products again. Amazon will receive this junk returned from me. No wonder it is nearly half price. The positive reviews must have been posted by Buffalo executives.
Excellent router, improved speed slightly over the older Linksys 54gs.......2007-08-31
Easy setup - I did notice a slight gain in speed compared to my old Linksys 54gs.

Customer Reviews:
Well priced; just works.......2007-05-07
A single wireless router couldn't cover my house. Instead, I use two access points and a (wired) router. Most access points are overly expensive. The TRENDnet WAP not only works flawlessly, it is quite reasonably priced. Highly recommended -- it's really easy to just set it and forget it.
Works.......2007-04-10
It feels a little flimsy but it works, can't complain with that. The software is easy to use. I like the ability to use this as a client device that allows you to transparently bridge any wired ethernet enabled device to your wireless network via an existing Access Point or Router.

Does the job, but..........2007-09-14
It (or a combination of it and my wireless router) intereferes with bluetooth. Now if I want to use the bluetooth on my phone, I have to unplug all this stuff ;(. VERY ANNOYING!!! Installation took 3 hours with 2 different reps. D-link customer service is outstanding, by the way. Also, my download speed seems to be limited to 75 kbps on the WAP end. Upload is more than double that, which is wierd. Looks like I need another few hours on the phone with tech support.
Bottom line...works kinda well when you actually get it set up. However, getting it set up can be an exercise in patience. Expensive for the speeds I'm seeing :(
Flexible and Secure.......2007-09-03
I have tried several different units (entry level) for bridging and these units were the only ones that allowed me to setup a bridge with WPA2. Lots of options for various types of setups and very stable. The stock ant. provided a good connection, but since these will only be bridging 2 networks, I also grabbed a set of DWL-M60AT Directional Indoor Antenna's to limit my broadcast area and boost my signal strength. I bought a few extra units to use as Access Points and they have good coverage & stability. They are a few bucks more more than some other units on the market, but you get what you pay for!
D-Link = Bad quality = terrible customer support.......2007-08-28
Too bad I cannot give d-link 0 stars. Several hours on my own, then 3 hrs with customer's support - level one - from India, then level 2 from US, then supervisors of level 2 - doesn't work. Just bought linksys - setup in 5 minutes, works great. Conclusion - I will never buy d-link again, and wouldn't recommend you either.
this is an excellent product.......2007-06-27
this access point is very fast, faster than my cable connection. it has a great range and it is very easy to set up, plug and play.
Good value........2007-03-09
We purchased two of these AP's to use for a point to point bridge, using 24 db gain antennas over about a quarter mile hop. We mounted the AP's in weathertight 8"x8"x4" boxes along with dLink POE's, all outdoors on a mast just behind the antennas. This eliminated the need to extend the Antenna's wires inside. It also eliminated considerable loss we would have encountered in running longer antenna wires.
The units have worked flawlessly since install. Our daytime high temperatures were 100 degrees max, winter low temperatures have been -20 degrees. We are operating at the minimal power setting for the AP-2100 without suffering throughput, put there is no way of verifying this.
If I could have one more feature, it would be some sort of signal strength indicator, along with some way of testing for data throughput.
Nevertheless, I would recommend a similar installation to anyone needing to bridge two LAN's together. We have just purchased a third DWL-2100 as a backup because we've gotten quite hooked on the system and would now be distressed if it should go out (due to lightning, etc.) So the the third unit is a backup, still sealed in its origional box.

Good product once I got it to work.......2007-08-13
Does what I want it to...bridges my network so I can run my xbox from the other room without needing a 50-foot cable.
Only bad thing was I got it and it had a EUROPEAN POWER ADAPTER in the box, not sure if that was because this product was meant to be sold in europe or just a fluke of amazon shipping, but beware. Took a week and a half for them to ship it to me, and then I had to wait another week for a power adapter to get here from the manufacturer.
Easy to setup and works........2007-01-11
I like this product. I origanly purchased a Linksys to bridge my ReplayTv and router. Four phone calls and around 3:00 AM I learned from Linksys that what I purchased the box that sead "bridging" was the incorect product.
Did a quick search and found this product. I did need to read the instructions to connect. She worked right away. An has been working every day for the past three months with out a problem.

D-Link is okay with me..........2007-03-31
i ordered this because i recently built a laptop and i wanted to be able to connect to my network without having to be tied down by a cable. my current network is hard wired, so i needed an access point. i stayed with D-Link since my router is D-Link. the only difficulty i had with this device was properly setting up the security for the wireless port. no worries at all otherwise. i barely had to look at the user manual. i plugged it into the wall, connected to the router, enabled my laptops wireless port and boom, off i went. i did not have to upgrade the firmware as i did on the router. overall, i am very happy with this product so far.
Spectacular! Plug it in and it works!.......2007-03-30
I purchased this with D-Link Wireless G Notebook Adapter WNA-1330 - Cardbus Network adapter. I plugged the G700AP into an existing network, and, it configured itself, instantly. I was surfing in less than five minutes. FANTASTIC! This is the way products are supposed to work! (You can use the included CD, or, if you are advanced, you can configured it manually.)
Note: I used to recommend Linksys exclusively. No more. D-Link is the only product I recommend, now.
its does what is suppose to do.......2007-03-13
its been working fine for the last few month after i upgrade it the firmware before that it was just restarting every 5 minutes.
Not a true Access Point. .......2007-03-03
It is likely, if you are looking at an access point rather than a basic broadband router, that you are wanting more versatility in your wireless setup. If this is the case, this D*Link product is a waste of time. Despite being advertised as an Access Point (AP), the DWL-G700AP is not a true AP.
There is no client AP mode (allows the AP to be a client to another AP), there is no wireless bridge mode, there is no wireless repeater mode. In fact, everything you would expect to see on an AP is missing. And D*link do not seem to be able to keep track of firmware releases properly either. My AP came with 1.03 which, according to D*Link does not exist.
As such, it's virtually useless as anything other than a VERY basic access point. Buy the Linksys WAP54G instead and get a real AP.
Dlink access point.......2007-02-07
Plugged it in, configured it and it worked. That is the best you can get. Almost did it all itself.

Warning - Unstable Product.......2007-05-12
I bought two of these for my church. I struggled with these products for 4 months before finally convincing the VAR to let me return them. There are severe bugs in the firmware and possibly the hardware. I went through 4 RMAs with Netgear before giving up on the product. Technical support was great but engineering just couldn't come through with a fix. Look at the forums before purchasing to make sure that the issues have been addressed.
Mistake! .......2007-03-07
I purchased two of these units in December. This model seems to randomly stop routing traffic to the internet on random wireless attached computers (local network is fine). Three months later and numerous emails and phone calls to Netgear they sent me a replacement; SAME issues with the new model! Not all Netgear products are bad, this one is. Don't ever try to work with Netgear support, just not worth the stress.
Not worth it.......2007-02-08
Just about the only thing good about this unit is how easy it is to setup.
This AP is not worth paying extra for. I have personally demoted this "business class" AP to home use...which sadly doesn't even perform well in such conditions where multiple wireless stations are present in the environment (as with all multi-dwelling unit/condos)...even when it is literally less than 20 ft away. Contant constant connect/disconnects make it extremely unreliable.
The "auto-cell" feature, which was a major reason for purchase, is deprecated. New firmware doesn't even have it (non-existent in the v2 release of this product).
I'm not saying this unit doesn't work, it does, but it offers nothing more than a standard AP costing much much less. There are some features such as VLANs and maybe if that's a key requirement, then it can work for you (v2 models).
However, if you're looking for performance/reliability basics in "harsh" environments, you will do just as good, or poorly, with any other "standard" home use AP.
works, but lots of trial and error due to poor documentation.......2006-05-18
Got 2 of these to make a local area network between myself and neighbor down the street. We have what I think is a fairly simple network (router to ap to remote ap), and between the awful documentation, terible support (besides language issues, they just won't answer the questions you ask), and a web interface issues, I am quite disappointed. 2 stars because it took my friend (a guy with multiple network certifications), and myself (with a bs in computer science), many evenings to get it to work. Would have done 1 star if we never got it working. Even now, we don't have the house-to-house thing inplace due to needing a better antenna. My advise: go straght to the forums for support if you can't get it working on the first 10 tries. This might be a good piece of harware, but without good software and good support, it is not worth buying.
This unit is terrible.......2005-02-23
I've concluded that while they advertise heavily that this unit supports WPA-Enterprise with RADIUS, it does not. It doesn't even support WPA-Personal. Netgear says it has something to do with TKIP.
Further, Netgear has the cheapest tech support for product that is at least somewhat known.
Therefore, they sell you something full of lies and they don't provide support worth squat. I even tried "level 2" support and they weren't able to help me.
Don't waste your money on this unit.
I'm getting ready file a suit in civil court to recoup my loses from this product. (about a week and half from writing this review)
