well made webcam. impressive image quality. most suitable for non mobile users. for road warriors, buy the logitech quickcam pro for notebooks. does not work well with latest version of skype. tried on 3 different machines running xp. will lock up computer. works great with yahoo messagner and windows live messanger. windows live messanger has the best free video calling platform at this time.

A huge upgrade from my old Logitech camera... :).......2007-09-22

I will vouch for anything Logitech. I am not saying this because I am a vine member, but because I have a lot of things that are Logitech, and they are all great products (including microphones and keyboards). The only thing I was disappointed in from Logitech was my old webcam the "Pro 5000". Maybe I was just disillusioned because I thought it would work like a real camera, but either way it didn't perform up to snuff for the price I paid for it (its retail was $80.00).

When I received the "QuickCam Pro 9000" I was very leery because of my past experience (right or wrong). I read the fancy description of the box about its lenses being designed by Carl Zeiss. He is makes lenses for space exploration, so I thought "Well, maybe this is higher quality than my last one..." However, I was not holding out hope.

As usual the set-up was very simple; just put in the disc and install the Logitech software and then plug in the webcam. So, I did that and then started using the camera immediately. I am sad to say that I didn't think it was a whole lot better than the Pro 5000, except a couple details.

1. The sound quality is far better than it was on the Pro 5000. Things were a little bit better synchronized with my face and it just picked up my voice better overall.

2. The picture quality is less grainy. The picture quality on this camera is top-notch, not at all grainy like the Pro 5000. I was very much impressed with the visual quality of the ProCam 9000 .

I wish I could've taken back my old camera and paid the extra $20.00 because the sound quality and picture quality are that much better on the Pro9000. The other features on this one are basically the same as their other cameras because it comes with the same software is the other camera. Still, if you are looking for a decent webcam that is $100.00 or less, I would say that you cannot go wrong with this one.

Superiour image quality, but does not work with Skype.......2007-09-21

Camera is useless, if used with Skype (freezes after about 20s, however, if you do not use the in-built mic the cam works fine and offers great picture quality)

This is what Logitech support says:

"ALL Instant Messenger (IM) issues are either "IM" or "networking" issues...they are not Logitech problems...end of story."

and... "The only fully supported video conferencing software is Logitech's own VideoCall service."

Btw: to use the VideoCall Service, you need to subscribe to their VideoCall plan, which incidentally is $6.95 per month

My opinion on that: Logitech might be right, that IM services have not implemented some APIs fully or correctly, and that this may be the reason why this camera does not work ... however, there are mainstream services such as Skype, Yahoo, Aol ... and I'd say that it is the task of Logitech quality assurance to make their products work with these existing major services... or to state clearly, that they don't support skype & Co ...

At firdt I thought it was a bit expensive, but it's worth every penny, the quality of the image and the sound are excellent!!!!

Problem with Skype.......2007-09-21

Been using this for a few days and when it works it has very good image quality. Unfortunately, I use it with Skype and the webcam freezes after a few minutes. I've looked on-line at both Logitech and Skype forums and it appears to be a widespread issue with this camera... no solution and both companies blaming each other and apparently doing nothing about it. Until it's fixed, I would not recommend this camera to anyone wanting to use Skype...

This webcam is very easy to install and offers picture technology that is clearest when you have light from a window or lamp facing directly at you. The built in microphone is easy to hear. It works great with SKYPE but not so good with Yahoo!

The item I received was marked compatible with VISTA however it did not work. (I do have the a Vista computer) I've learned that it "MUST" have the circle with the four colored flag within. Like wise items for use with the XP computers will have only the flag with the four colors. THIS IS MANDITORY for proper operation, no exceptions. I usually have to learn the hard way.

Don't listen to the boo-hooers on here. This web cam blows any other web cam away by a mile. The software downloaded flawlessly. What is most impressive is the clarity of the picture, sound and continuity of the image. It easily links you into yahoo messenger, msn messenger, skype, and aim. If you want to stay on your dark, grainy, neanderthal web cam I can take a dump in a box and write web cam on it for you. But, if you want a quality web cam with incredible clarity, easy to use, great sound, great lighting, and image continuity, consider this one.

Crashes both my computers.......2007-08-24

I got this camera and installed it on both my Vista laptop and my XP desktop. Promptly crashed both systems. On the XP it was degenerative and corrupted the OS so I had to do a system restore. I can't believe Logitech released something so buggy!

Despite of this camera's good looks and alleged performance buy and install at your peril.

RightLight really works.......2007-08-02

Try this on other webcams: Face the webcam, look at ourself at the camera. You should be focused and clear. Now take your cell phone, turn it on so that the screen is on. Now face the cell phone screen on the webcam close enough so that the webcam only see the screen, try to focus the lense if possible.

On this camera, the lighting adjust quickly and you're able to see the screen, turn the lense and it focus correctly. Other cameras I've tried, the cell phone screen is a blur and all you see is white like it's looking into the sun or something.

As some other reviewers already mentioned: This cam does not work with the current skype version ... but in case someone wants to keep his cam: after endless fiddeling around the fallback solutions seems to be to use Skype version 3.0.0.218 or older ...

Skype blames the problem on Logitech, Logitech says Skype is buggy (since the camera is working fine with the logitech video call software...(btw: this is a paid service for $6.95/month) ... none of the two companies seems to care, however, if a seller puts a Skype logo on the package, I do not care where the problem exactly is, I simply expect the hardware to work with Skype.

A great little notebook camera!.......2007-09-18

Logitech has always been at the forefront for making web cameras and their products are plug and play. This one is no exception. You just plug it in and go! I've had the opportunity to use this product already as my friend has it and I was impressed by the image quality. The image quality on the Pro series has always been better than some of their other cheaper models and is perfect for people who may be using it for live meetings. The colors for this cam are true to life and the images are sharp. It's small and extremely portable and easily hooks on to the top of your notebook. I own the older version of this QuickCam Pro which has thinner prongs to hook it on the top of your notebook that caused the camera to fall over more easily. Logitech has improved the clip design that attaches the camera to the notebook for this model and it's no longer a fine balancing act like the older version. I've not had focusing problems with this webcam like some other reviewers have commented. In fact, the camera focuses automatically on you and performs well in the night in low light conditions. Sometimes, I just have had to adjust the focus a little bit to make the image sharper if I want to focus on a specific object that is not right in front of the webcam. I've used this webcam on Windows Live Messenger with surprisingly good image quality (really crystal clear) over a cable internet connection. The better resolution requires greater processor speed and works best with USB 2.0 so if you have an older laptop with a slower processor this will make your other applications freeze or slow down. They bundle the HP Photosmart software with this camera, which I don't use. I usually turn off the mic on the camera as my notebook has inbuilt mic. It comes with a softcase which is nice for travel and helps protect the lens. The included stand is a nice touch as you may sometimes not want to have it on the top of your notebook, especially if you work at a desk. Like other webcams you can broadcast yourself live with this camera or even take quick pics 8MP(!) or make video clips of yourself for Amazon video reviews.

Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks.......2007-09-08

I bought this camera recently and i should admit i love it. I used to have a cheap Phillips webcam and the quality of it was bad. The picture came out as if i was in a basement. This camera has a very cool useful feature which is called the backlight and even if there is not enough light in the room it still looks DOOD, VERY GOOD.
The microphone is working very well too. You can sit away from the wbcam and still talk with your normal voice volume. It does not have any background noise.
Another nice feature of this camera is special effects. You can fool around, adding some funny hats, glasses, masks to your face or even become an alien (if smb wants to).It works with Skype, but you have to let this software be used with Skype. The program asks you if you want to let Logitech be used with Skype and if you say yes, you can enjoy this cool feature.
The best thing of all is the glass Carl Zeiss Lens. It really makes difference. My husband has pretty much same webcam but without such lens and the quality of picture is notisably worse.
The only thing i had trouble with is software, i had to install it twice. But i think it is somehow connected with the virus program in my computer, it is a crazy software and always interferes with all installations.
I like everything about this very camera, especially great picture quality and forgot to mention small design. It is small and cute and looks good on notebook.
If i needed to buy one more camera i would get the same one. Hopefully it was helpful.

Skype Users Stay Away!.......2007-09-03

I purchased this webcam for use with my laptop and Skype. I use Skype for business and pleasure. Even though the box has the Skype logo on it, the product is NOT compatible with the latest version of Skype -- 3.5. The video freezes about 15 seconds into any call. I am not the only user with this problem. Check out the Logitech and Skype user forums and you will see that this is common to anyone trying to use this webcam with Skype 3.5. I have not been able to get a straight answer from either Skype or Logitech as to whether they are addressing this issue. So, for now, my advice for Skype users is to buy a different webcam.

If you can install it, it's fair enough........2007-09-19

I'm going to slightly deviate from the rest of these reviews and offer further information that I was unable to find when I purchased this webcam.

First of all, I have several computers with different operating systems. I installed this cam on both Windows Vista 32 bit and Windows XP 32 bit w/SP 2. That said, the webcam installed fine on XP, but Vista was definitely a problem.

The Vista Problem:
Initially I attempted to use the CD that came with the cam to install, but that didn't work at all. I then had to go to labtec.com to download the installation software specifically for Vista, which was fair enough. I tried to install that, but the microphone refused to work. I went to the website to view their FAQ's and none of their answers or "troubleshooting help" were correct. They try to blame it on the system or your sound card or anything but their software. I happened to know the sound and everything worked perfectly on that brand new computer. I rebooted several times, all to no avail. Finally I uninstalled and reinstalled. The mic then worked, but all the settings were greyed out. I rebooted twice more and finally it worked properly. It was a pain, but I did manage to install it and have it work properly.

The Support Problem:
In addition to the fact that the both the FAQ at Labtec and the Help files are insufficient, the "manual" is no actual manual. It's a Quick Install Guide and that's it. The guide even says, "After launching the Webcam software, go to the online help for simple step-by-step instructions for using your camera." If you have to resort to Labtec support, then you're out of luck as the site not only does not offer a way to contact support online. Sure, the email link is there, but it only takes you to the FAQ. I tried contacting the webmaster, but that email bounced immediately. There is no hope for online support at all, unless you want questions answered that have nothing at all to do with the problem.

The Webcam Itself:
Finally on to the actual cam. After jumping through what seemed like an endless number of hoops, it works fair enough. Because I cannot get help, I've not yet discovered the secret to the "motion detection" feature it promises. There appears to be no option in the regular user interface (the settings dialog boxes). A search of the Help files has zero results and the manual (more appropriately titled Installation Guide) has no mention of the motion detection software whatsoever.

I've never owned a cam before, but the picture quality is fair. It's not outstanding, but if you plan to use it on a personal level (chatting, personal videos, etc.) it should be good enough. The sound can be problematic, but it will work if you put your mind to it.

If you're lucky enough to install it without any problems, then it's really easy to use, except for the elusive Motion Detection feature. You just click and it works. I've even tested it with Yahoo Instant Messenger and the cam does launch, but I've not yet tried to see if anyone can see and hear it clearly. If it is indeed a problem, or if I discover/solve any further problems, I will reply to this review with a comment.

Overall, if I had to do it all over again, I'd likely not purchase this particular cam for a Windows Vista computer. As for XP, if I knew that the motion detection feature either didn't exist as promised, or would be this hard to figure out, I'm not entirely sure I'd purchase it for that operating system either.

I bought this camera to use on a Mac. The software that comes with it is not Mac friendly but you can download "MacCam" software for free. If you want to use it for iChat, you can buy a program called "iGlasses" that allows you to set brightness, color, etc. The picture quality is quite good for an inexpensive camera. I would recommend it.

I Would Rather Pay More To Get A Better Picture.......2007-06-14

I bought this webcam because it was on sale with a microphone. In the future I would rather pay full price for a webcam and a microphone, because both are basic and do not have any special features. This webcam produces a very dark picture, even after I have adjusted all of the settings. However, if you want a basic webcam it works well because you can at least see who you are talking to.

I bought a creative webcam in 2003 that kind of resembled a snail shell. It was total garbage! Slow responses times, hardly ever took a "stable" picture (mostly blurry), did not have good light response, and didn't even rotate! This was supposed to be a webcam that could also be a portable digital camera. Ha! Not so much. I paid $100 through Amazon for this Creative Web-Cam. I did not know that this camera was garbage and I was so frustrated that I never tried to return it for a refund -- I just suffered with it's inadequacy. Two years earlier, I bought an Intel webcam through Dell for $48. It worked great -- it even swiveled, and made movies! Only $48! So why is Creative making garbage for $100? Maybe they have improved in 4 years? I don't know. Karma always comes back around, so this is my report and caveat to people about my experience with a garbage webcam bought from Creative.

Great camera, great audio quality.............2007-05-19

I'm not sure why the other reviewers are not having the same excellent experience that I am having with my Voice camera. The installation was easy, the image is clear and the directional live audio feature that they have, works great.

When I video caht with my friend, he says that the image is clear and the frame rates are fine. Also, if there are others around, the directional live audio feature only picks up my voice. The software bundle is very good compared to the other cameras out there.

Overall, I'm very happy with my camera and highly recommend it.

I've just got both D-link usb 1.1 plus the Labtec WebCam Pro. Don't buy this product it's the waste of money, The picture of this is very blurry not so bright and the software is not that good at all. This is the worse product of D-link. Get Labtec WebCam Pro, the picture quality much better also the software is alots better especially the motion sensor recorder that I can use to surveillance my baby sitter. I bought this webcam for stills and video. I get great pictures from both formats. The color is good and the video pics are very smoothe. The software takes a little studying, but after a quick read, it's pretty easy to edit your pics and videos. This is a great buy for the money. I highly reccomend it.

Camera I got worked fine, no problems with it breaking or anything.

It's also black, a good thing, you wont find others in this style and size that are black.

Price is spendy for this camera, it's not very good quality, does have an auto iris, which is nice in dark areas, but slows down the capture speed. Quality of video is subpar, i had to even knock down the settings just so it would go faster than 1-2 fps. In good light, it does work ok, around 6-12fps, but when I say good light, i mean very well lit.

Software that comes with webcams aren't ideal, this one i didn't even bother. I'm using Cam Wizard, works great, but that's the software, not the camera.

Camera is USB1, so the speeds are slow. Like I said, it's "Just as expected" because i wasn't expecting much. If you want a good webcam, and don't care about color (main reason i got this and form factor), then get a AOC PCC-DC1120 USB 2.0 VGA Web Cam with Microphone (link below has it), works MUCH better.

I wish amazon sold the following camera, it's MUCH better, and CHEAPER. Does work with 40fps as well as advertised.

I can't say that I own very many of these things, this was in fact my first venture into USB webcams. I was a bit disappointed in the software that came with it and as many have pointed out, image is decent in well lit areas but not at all acceptable in darker settings. USB is the only cost effective way to go for chat cams were quality isn't critical.

I like the gooseneck on this webcam - It allowed me to tape it to my window (unlike a bulkier camera) with package tape so I can watch the street activity outside my apartment. There is no focusing apparatus on this camera, so once you get out of range the picture gets blurry. The install CD didn't work at all for me on my Win XP (service pack 2) computer. The program wouldn't even show up on the list of programs after installation. I found a trial of ActiveWebCam by www.pysoft.com -- It worked fine with the camera and allowed me to adjust the exposure. Another free software, Fwink, also worked with this camera. Indoors, the image was dark and grainy as others have mentioned, but it works acceptably well for casual purposes.

Tiger Direct sent this item quickly (Great service), but the webcam's quality was horrible. It had an orange tint, grainy resolution (even in good lighting) and no software at all except for outdated drivers. An absolute piece of junk -- I returned it the same day I received it.
