2 out of 5 stars worked for 1 day . . . haven't got it to work again.......2007-04-12

I bought this from BB and it worked great right out of the box, Not sure what happened after the first day but now i can no longer get it to connect. I'm not getting an internet signal at the remote location. For the $80+ i spent on this i would have been better off just upgrading to a new Pre-N wireless router. Don't waste your money . . . if you do still want this I'll gladly sell you mine!

5 out of 5 stars Very easy to install and use.......2005-07-28

We have three of these in use for about a year now in our home. Just plugged them in. One is attached to the router, the other two are on computers in different parts of the house. They even supply the Ethernet cable with the adapter. No problems noted so far.

1 out of 5 stars Not a good customer experience.......2004-06-12

For whatever reason this set-up did not work. As others have noted, phone support is non-existent. Even at 4 am they won't take your call. Email to support was also fruitless. I got one email back asking "what are your settings?". I replied, sent a tracer but never heard back. I see they have discontinued this product. Technical issues aside, Netgear has a ways to go to provide basic customer support.

4 out of 5 stars Slick Last Resort Networking Solution!.......2004-06-01

I bought this because I have a shed next to my garage that my WiFi doesn't quite reach. This was definatly the easiest solution to networking into my shop so I could have internet and play Mp3s off my network.

I plugged one into my router, and the other into my 150mhz laptop I used in the shed (a glorified Mp3 player at this rate, but still does that and surfs the net well!)

Turned on the laptop... I was on my network at a little over 8Mbps. Sweet!

Streamed Mp3s, tested the internet... super fast. Worked great. Perfect solution. Couldn't be happier...

The only downfall was that the encryption software (not that I need it) says W98 is required. But, it actuality it requires W98SE or higher. So, I couldn't install the software (I installed in on my XP laptop to test the speed with their tools).

Kinda sucks SE is required... but, I can live with it now that I have internet and can share MP3s in my shop!

2 out of 5 stars It didn't work for me.......2004-05-01

I tried using it to connect two medium sized rooms that were right next to each other. It only worked reasonably well for a little while after I plugged both of them in (or unplugged them both and re-plugged them in). It might have worked for non-internet networking, but I just wanted to have net access and that wasn't happening except for a brief period after resetting the power as I mentioned. It seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews, so maybe it was just my place that was the problem, but for what it's worth, it wasn't the magic it sounded like it was.

4 out of 5 stars Works as advertised.......2007-09-08

I have been told wireless technology does not work in my Condo because of double wall construction, I must admit this is true. Until I purchased the Wall Pullgged Ethernet Adapter Kit. Works like a charm.

4 out of 5 stars Plug and play.......2007-08-26

I was a bit apprehensive about this product, as there seem to be a few buyers who were disappointed. Apparently, it just doesn't work with some home wiring. Happily, I'm in the majority of those for whom the device worked immediately and flawlessly. I plugged one "wall wart" into an electrical outlet next to my router, connected it to my router via an Ethernet cable, then plugged in another wart next to my computer, and connected it to my LAN port on my computer. To my considerable surprise, it worked immediately--I was up and running on the LAN, with an internet connection that was perceptibly faster than the G Wireless I had been using. I was surprised that there was no configuration necessary--I didn't even read the darn instructions! I immediately bought another one for my daughter's computer (on the same network), and dustbinned my wireless AP. After the nightmare of Windows wireless configuration and flakiness, this device is like a life raft to a drowning sailor.

I should mention that the password configuration was a bit tricky--and reading the instructions didn't help. What threw me was that the password utility shows a nice list of the connectors it finds on the network--except the one that's attached to your own computer (the one you're running the utility on) it only showed me my router's and my daughter's (no SHE doesn't have warts...). You have to configure your own device "blind". This is something that could use improvement, hence only 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars No worries!.......2007-08-23

I live in a rented townhome. Slingbox Pro in living room, cable modem downstairs in the office. Don't want to stream video over my wireless network, so purchased the XE103. Opened the box, plugged them in to a couple of outlets, and it just works. No idea what speed I get but it's more than enough for the Slingbox.

Great product for apartment dwellers!

5 out of 5 stars Plug and Play.......2007-08-19

The hardest part of installing these is either opening the box or bending down to plug them in....YUP...that simple... I have tried a number of wireless routers and have tweaked them every which way possible over the years to always end up disappointed with both speed and reliability. I purchaed a set of these 2 months ago and havent had one issue at all. The speed is considerably faster than wi-Fi and I stay connected 24/7 with no issues at all. No tweaking...no encryption...no headaches....just easy to use internet all over the house. I've even set them up in retail stores and they love them.

5 out of 5 stars Ethernet over Power Line.......2007-07-25

Could not be easier to install and worked perfectly out of the box. I am very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars works great out of the box.......2007-09-19

This divce will get you the net at any location, no setup needed and works all the time.

5 out of 5 stars Decent Speed - Very Reliable.......2007-09-13

Being thoroughly fed up with flaky performance of wireless routers and wireless networking in general, I decided to try 4 of these out in my home as an alternative to running CAT5 through the floors and walls.

After a month or so of use, I can definitely say these are worth the $60 each I paid for them. While the speed is nowhere near the advertised 85 Mbps, it is more than adequate for, say, streaming DVDs, browsing internets, etc..

And perhaps most importantly, no dropped connections, no crappy wireless performance, utter rock solid stability, just like you were running CAT5 directly to the router.

In reading the reviews here, I noticed some claims that the unit runs hot. I haven't had this problem at all, maybe I'm not subjecting it to the same workload.

5 out of 5 stars Very easy to set up and use.......2007-08-30

For whatever reason, in the type of older house I live in the wi-fi can't make it through more than one wall reliably. After days of fiddling around repositioning the wireless router and contemplating complex home rewiring schemes, I gave up and bought one Netgear XE103 Wall Plugged Adapter and one Netgear 85Mbps Adapter with 4-Port Switch (XE104). Our problems were solved within 15 minutes of opening the box (it would have been five minutes if I hadn't taken the time to install the utility software to set up a private network password). Nice work, Netgear!

Here's a couple of tips: (1) Write down the device password (on the plug side) before plugging everything in and running the password utility -- you'll need the device password to set the private network password for remote units. (2) Enter the device password for all your remote devices in the software utility before trying to set the network password using the "all devices" option (otherwise the password will only be set locally, and your remote devices will stop talking to the local device).

5 out of 5 stars Powerline Adapters.......2007-08-23

I am a big fan of powerline adapters to network my PCs in my older home. I have used these Netgear Adapters to network three PCs on three different floors in my home which doesn't have any ethernet cabling in the house. I considered wireless but after reading up on these adapters thought they would be a cheaper and more practical solution to my objective. They are truly plug and play and they are easy to configure to password protect the network.

The prices I have been quoted here at Amazon have been the lowest of all the online sites I have checked.

5 out of 5 stars Works great!.......2007-08-11

I couldn't get a reliable signal from my wireless g to my wife's computer, and all I did was plug in both ends and it works as expected. No configuration needed. There is no waiting for it to connect after waking the computer, as there was with the wireless. She's happy, which makes me happy. Well worth the price.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Works great, anyone can set these up.......2003-02-16

I got these to complete our home network for sharing a broadband connection. Since I already had ethernet cards on the machines that were upstairs (far from the cable modem) I decided to try these rather than go wireless. You will need at least two of these for them to be of use, I have one on the router and one plugged into a hub where the two remote computers are. If you do not turn on the encryption all you need to do is plug them in and you are done. I have not tried the encryption yet and do not plan to any time soon, so I don't know how difficult is is to set up or how well it works.

The only negative (and this applies to all the current powerline networking items) is they need to plug right into the wall. Given how many plugs a desktop computer needs you will need a surge protector with LOTS of plugs to free up a wall socket.

Also, one word of advice, keep this in a reasonably well ventilated area. I had mine partially covered and it got too hot and stopped working. After I uncovered it and let it cool down for a few minutes it started working again.

4 out of 5 stars New home netrwork.......2003-01-05

I just bought a NETGEAR RP614 router to share the ADSL connection to the Internet between several PC's. Two years ago I had purchased one of the wireless products and had extremely slow transfer rates. I have decided to upgrade to a real "wired" network. Now with the new router I am contemplating all the Ethernet wiring that will be needed and it wont be a trivial task. But I just read those articles about using the existing power lines and the Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter (XE602) seems to be the solution. So thanks for all the info.

4 out of 5 stars Plug and Play if no Encryption need.......2002-11-30

I works right out of box, (supposed to be that, such as all other brands...Iogear, Linksys, Phonex NeverWire 14, etc.) It also comes with two Ethernet patch cables ( and you only need one, it is good to have extra). It also looks nice with the stand and all the connections (Ethernet port and AC powerline port) are at rear panel. But, you need to install software on computer to have encryption. On the other hand, the Phonex NeverWire 14 uses one button on the device to have the encryption (that is realy really Plug and Play). That is the reason it only got my 4-star.

5 out of 5 stars Great for XBox and PS2 system link and Internet gaming........2002-11-16

I have three Netgear XE602 adapters; one as the main hub off an Internet broadband router in one room and the other two in other rooms. There's no configuration required. They work right out of the box.

There's an Encryption software included in the package, but it's not necessary. I tried it and it worked well at first. But somewhere down the line, the adapters stopped recognizing each other. So, I uninstalled the Encryption tools and it worked fine since then.

I've used the XE602's to connect two Xbox's located in two separate rooms to play System Linked games. It's much easier than getting two large TV's into one room. Ever played Halo with 8 players? Now you can without cramming 8 screaming people into one room.

The XE602's also work well with broadband Internet gaming. Whenever we had guests, I would move the Playstation 2 and an XE602 downstairs and let them play Socom Navy Seals online. When they left, I simply packed everything up and moved them back upstairs. Quick and easy.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!! One of the best products this year!.......2002-09-18

I bought this product recently because i wanted the computer in my basement to have internet access from my cable modem on my second floor. Putting a wire between floors wasn't very practical and wireless networkinf wouldn't work either so when I saw this I was happy but a little skeptical but after buying I realized that it worked great. It's not as fast as a wired network but it gives me speeds of up to 170 k per second downloading. So I can't complain. It was also super easy to hook up you literally just have to plug it in and it works. I have no complaints about this Product it is wonderful. The only thing is that each of the adapter is $ and one is needed for each computer. But I strongly suggest buying this if you need a networking solution.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great design and performance.......2007-02-18

I have to say I'm very pleased with the product. I have two units connected on 2 different circuits and the performance is great- 50-60Mbps.
My building does have new electric wiring so perhaps it helps too.

The heat issue doesn't exist- the units feel barely lukewarm to the touch. And the 4-port switch is sweet- no extra power supplies, no wires. Great design indeed !

My only complain is that software is a bit flaky, seems to freeze and I couldn't change the password to anything but default. But the software is really not necessary anyway- it is a hardware solution. I plugged the units in and they worked !

2 out of 5 stars Poor performance if 20-30' from router.......2006-12-04

I found that if you place this device in a diferent room from the router the performance drops considerably. I have a new home so the wiring is good and I only got about 11% of my original speed by putting the second device about 20'+ from my office to the great room. I called Netgear CR and this is a common experience.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent - performance as promised.......2006-11-11

I used this product to replace troublesome RF-based wireless connection between my cable modem in my office and my wife's computer in the kitchen. The RF connection was spotty, weak, and undependable, despite trying various brands and configurations of RF routers.

The Netgear 104G was simple, and produced an uninterrupted, steady, strong, and fast internet connection. Yay!

          5 out of 5 stars Great product.......2006-11-10

I used this when the wireless had a huge dead spot. Allot easier than running CAT5. Plus it gives you flexibility to move.

4 out of 5 stars Better than wireless, but don't expect too much.......2006-11-09

As most people have found with powerline ethernet, performance will depend a lot on house wiring. When I plug the two units into the same outlet, I get great, near 100BT rates (5-8MB/s). When moved across the house, this drops to 10BT rates (0.5-1 MB/s). However, unlike wireless (802.11g), these rates are very consistent and reliable. A sensible (if expensive) alternative to wireless for desktop computers.

This product is trivially easy to use. No software; it works just like a wire. (It does have some encryption capability that I didn't use -- that should only be needed in apartments with shared electrical systems.)

For those who care, my setup is a cable modem connected to a Netgear 624SC wireless router, and a network of 4 desktop Macs (iMacs G5 and Core2, two beige G3s) and an old white iBook. I also extend the wireless (for the laptop only!) using an old Netgear 614 router. The Appletalk file sharing seemed especially sensitive to the wireless flakiness, and is now rock solid.
