Excellent Monitor.......2004-08-27
I purchased mine about three months ago, no problems or dead pixels. Very clear and sharp compared to others. I considered a Sony but it was only analog without DVI. I have hooked up two computers using only one at a time. One is DVI and the other is analog. Great pictures either way.
With Win XP the option of using clear type makes text even sharper. I notice some ghosting at times but I feel that is due to my video card, a Gforce 5200 FX 128mb. I'd suggest having a better card depending on if you play fast action games. It's rare but it does happen. All in all I feel it was a very good choice. Oh, this is a larger viewing area than my 19" CRT.

I've been using this monitor for about 10 months now (my computer is my home within home, so I use it a lot). I'm completely spoiled with this monitor's greatness - awesome 1280x1024 resolution with vibrant colors, more screen - less frame, and great reliability. Even though others may complain that the dead-pixels warranty is poor, I've yet to see any dead-pixels at all on mine.
The landscape/portrait option is great to have for maybe photo editing (for portrait photos), internet browsing, and word/spreadsheets processing. My ATI software for my video card supports this feature. Also, the DVI/VGA switch (A and B) allows maybe two computers to share this monitor (if one uses DVI and the other uses VGA).
If memory serves me right, my research for a 19-inch monitor before buying this led me to find out that this monitor uses almost half the power of the average competitor, including Dell. If it is any factor to anyone, it may save you money as a long-term investment in terms of product lifetime and power saving.
Just a little info for people searching for their next monitor:
*A 19-inch LCD is not the same as a 19-inch CRT in terms of viewable screen (19-inch CRT will typically be 18-inch viewable).
*Samsung is gradually becoming one of the better electronics company...they got my vote as being the best.
New Samsung Fan!.......2004-03-28
I walked into the computer store with no idea what brand I would purchase for my new LCD computer monitor. I choose this model with some very close competition. The sales guy told me that Samsung was a good brand and they are one of the few company's that actualy make the LCD pixels. I forked out the money (after all this was a big purchase for me) and I took home the box. After I opened and installed it I was in love. My roommate even said that he could not beleive how beautiful my new monitor was. The DVI input was perfect for the new high end video card that I purchased. I had no problems and this is probably one of the best and most rewarding purchases that I have made. I have bought many other Samsung "things" and have come to agree that it is a truly under rated brand. (I only hope their reputation will not increase their product costs). In a world where you get what you pay for, I finally got more than what I paid for!! If you do purchase another type of LCD, make sure you looks at the tech specs closly, as I discovered along my path, the high cost LCD's do not all have the high end specs.

Elegant Bright and vivid. 19 inch diagonal. size with half inch frame gives a very large display with a minimum of desk space. I bought my 191T+ to relieve eye strain. The quality of the picture and the effect on my eyes is a huge improvement over the 17" CRT I had been using before. It does not seem any brighter than my Apple Studio display at home (although it is supposed to be), but it certainly does the job on that point.
My main complaint is that there is a dead subpixel on mine right in the middle of the screen. While I knew that Samsung had an 8-pixel policy, I had hoped that they would make an exception for a pixel positioned so inconveniently. No dice. So I am stuck looking at a red spot right in the middle of my document. It's distracting.
My other complaint is that the monitor only swings one way, and in my office that is away from CPU and power outlet. The result is that I need to have a lot of slack in the cords on my desk if I want to swing to portrait mode, which is both ugly and annoying.
Great monitor.......2004-01-25
This is an a good monitor. The image quality is very good. I have 2 in a multi-monitor configuration with a Sony SDM-S91/B in the middle. The 191tplus makes the image on the Sony monitor look dirty! The white on the Sony monitor actually looks brown when compared to the white on the 191tplus.
I've had the Sony for about six months and I just got the Samsungs to increase my screen real estate. After comparing the image of these monitors I have decided to sell off the Sony and get another 191tplus.
After doing a lot of research, I decided on this monitor because its loaded with features e.g pivot/tilt etc. However I haven't been able to get the monitors to swivel but I don't care that much about that feature.
There are a lot of good deals on the internet so I suggest that buyers shop carefully before making a purchase.
Great Monitor.......2004-01-12
I did a lot of research before I bought this monitor, as I do with every major electronic purchase I make. I compared this monitor with several others that are on the top ten lists and found that along with this monitor there were a couple others of what appears to be equal quality. I chose this monitor for price, at roughly 620, as well as quality. I've had the monitor for about 3-4 months and have found it to negative some of the negative reviews that it had experienced, especially with game playing. This monitor works really well with games, including everquest, which was knocked hard. Perhaps those reviewers didn't have the computer to support the monitor/game or they were using the highest resoultion possible in game-not sure. I was aggrivated though with those reviews because it almost changed my mind from buying this monitor. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to buy a new monitor was because of eye strain I was experiencing with the crt I had, of which this monitor does a great job of prohibiting. I work a lot on this computer and I don't experience any eyestrain. The picture is extremly good...I noticed this especially when I compared it to a friend's who had a crt-there was an atonishing difference-the picture is really nice. Installing this monitor was a breeze. The only reason I gave this monitor 4 stars instead of 5 was because it tends to load certain webpages a lot slower than others-I'm not sure why. I'm not really great with computers but I do know the basics...I have a high quality computer and I can't load certain sites hardly at all at times. I did not experience this with my old crt at all, but I don't think this lcd is any different than others in that I think all lcd's will have the same quality. Even with that, I wouldn't trade this lcd for any other, nor ever go back to a crt. Hope this helps in your decision-making.

I have used two of these 191T monitors in my office for almost three years. One has been flown across the country (in a Pelican 1610 case, which now costs about the same as the monitor) a few times and is no worse for wear. They are both great monitors. We use them mostly in portrait mode for word processing and for viewing .pdf files of letter-size documents. We turn them to landscape mode for spreadsheets.
The included PivotPro software v.768 is pretty bad. It works on my laptop with an unsupported Intel graphics card (82852/82855), which gives me an extended screen, with the laptop in landscape mode at 800x600 and the monitor in portrait mode in 1024x768. The other monitor (on a desktop system) runs at 1024x768 on a NVidia card that includes a pivot feature, so it does not run the PivotPro software. I suggest using a graphics card that lets you avoid using the PivotPro software.

great monitor, good price, i have owned mine for the better part of two years now. i have recommended it to all my friends, and four others have the same one and they seem very happy with it. Clear text, and fantastic picture quality. everything is included and although it does the Pivot deal with the picture, never really used it. it has adjustable height and tilt. only problem with this monitor is i cannot find another one. Samsung has other models out but this one is discontinued. i'd recommend this monitor for anyone that spends SERIOUS time in front of the computer.

I am returning with my second review for this monitor, and my rating hasn't changed. But from what I have to say, maybe some of you out there may lower my rating. First, in my first review, I said that the monitor had two dead pixels. I've since found about 3 more. They don't all show up at once though. It depends on the background color of whatever you-re looking at e.g. games, web-surfing. One is always blue when it should be black. On a white background, as I type this, there's one pixel that's stuck in red. It would have been nice if the monitor was perfect with out any defects like these pixels, but I'm an easy going guy and never felt a need to return the monitor because of this.
On my old CRT monitor, I was used to having the resolution at 1024X768. Switiching to the Samsung's native 1280X1024 made things like pictures in webpages look smaller at first, but I quickly adjusted and it's no big deal. You can see more of the web page without scrolling at this resolution anyway. Other reviewers mention rotating the monitor, and yes, it comes with special software to adjust your screen when you rotate it. Unfrotunately, I haven't taken the time to learn how to rotate my monitor. The instructions come on a d CD, not a printed booklet I i wasn't able to find out how to rotate the monitor from this CD. I'm sure the insructions are in there somewhere, but i need to look harder.
Gaming: With the native resolution at 1280X1024, I prefer to leave my monitor at this setting at all times. I don't like the fuzziness of graphics/letters when shifting to other resolutions (I.e. UI'm spoiled by the sharpness of the native resolution). So, if you want to play your computer games at the native resolutioin, you need to make sure that you have a fast computer. I notice ghosting during the cutscenes of GTA3. and if I go to www.gamespot.com and scroll down a web[age, you can notice the refresh rate isn't as fast as a CRT (the screen "blinks" as you scroll). This only happenes from gamespot's website, and it's really not a big deal to me. Overall, I think the colors/graphics of games still look very nice on this monitor. Yes, CRT is sharper, but the Sam,sung comes pretty close. Plus, you save all that desk space. SO, I don't feel like going back to my old CRT (Sony 21" GDM-F500 from ~1998).

I compared this new monitor to my old LCD 19" from NEC side by side in a dual monitor setup and I could tell the brightnes and clarity that this monitor gave over it INSTANTLY! For a 19" it looks incredibly large, out of the box and on my desk it was ready to use and play games perfectly, no ghosting at all. I highly suggest this monitor!
