How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk Cruzer with 64MB Secure Digital Card, like most 64MB cards, will store on average 71 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 53 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 32 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 25 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 20 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

Powerpoint savior.......2003-02-07

I give a lot of public presentations using powerpoint. In most cases, I have to send the presentation days before I am really happy so that the conference organizers can load it on the conference system, or we have to do an awkward swap and connect my laptop to the conference projector. Floppies can't hold a ppt of any decent length. No one has zip drives. I don't have time to burn my presentations on CD's or DVD's. So I bought the Sandisk Cruzer.

I can load 5-10 different presentations on the 64 mb card, and as long as the OS is windows 2000 or above, it is plug and play. It is great for swapping files between unnetworked systems (sneaker net). I love the fact that I can upgrade the memory with a simple, affordable SD flash memory purchase.

If you give speeches or presentations at conferences, the Cruzer is a must.

More than a neat little toy.......2003-01-08

First, a note of explanation -- the Cruzer comes in different "sizes", which really only amount to the capacity of the flash memory card inside the little box. I bought one with the 64MB SD card; you can also look at the reviews for the 128MB module ... most of the insights will probably be the same.

It took a little doing in getting it to work on my Win98SE machine. After futzing around for a while, I found a set of instructions on SanDisk's website that basically says: "follow these 5 steps, ignore the error messages, and everything will be fine". Since then, sure enough, it's been cool.

You plug the thing into a USB port on your computer, and a pseudo disk drive appears (in Explorer; I do not have a Mac to test it on). On Win98, I had to go thru the aforementioned shenanigans to get it to work the first time; however, on a Win2k machine, it plugged and played immediately.

Once it's plugged in, you use it just like a disk drive. Move files between computers, store backups, have files to carry around with you all the time, to use on whatever computer computer you're at (instead of emailing them to yourself or whatever).

Only a few cons: 1) You pretty much have to carry the 3 inch pigtail cord around all the time, since few computers have flush-mounted USB ports. 2) The "carrying case" is useless; I never could get the Cruzer into the thing -- the fit was just too tight. However, the carrying case is only a thin bit of cloth, primarily designed to prevent scratches, I guess. (But the Cruzer itself is pretty sturdy; a light dense plastic that I could probably break with a hammer if I really wanted to, but it would take some effort. If you drop it on the floor, and I have, it is no worse for the wear.) 3) Moving the one big button, which changes the Cruzer from "plug it into the computer" mode to "take out the memory card" state, I found to be rather difficult. It takes some effort. But unless you're popping SD cards in and out all the time, this won't be a problem.

So (among other things), I now have a new way of backing up my Quicken data -- copy the files to this gizmo, and put the little gizmo in my little home fireproof safe. A lot faster and more reliable than a fistful of floppies.

The Lexar JumpDrive USB Flash Drive is a very small storage device that plugs into your computer's USB port. (Most computers have a USB port, it looks like a very small slot with neither the small protruding pins nor the little holes as in other "ports" on your computer. A port is a place to which you connect "peripherals" such as a a printer, for example)

You can download directly to the USB port (on my office computer, this is found in the "My Computer" icon under "F Drive"), transfer from the USB port to your hard drive, or carry it from home computer to office computer. This last function is what I've found most useful. If I write something at work, or download pictures, etc., I can transfer the information to the Lexar, take it home, and transfer to my home computer (of course, it works from home tranferred to office computer as well). It works with either a PC or a MAC, and can also transfer between these two.

The jumpdrive is a stand-alone product, you don't need to install cables or download drivers to get it working, which is a real benefit when you're not even sure what a driver is!

The transfers are very fast, and a light blinks to let you know when it is finished. I've never lost any data using this product. There is also a write protect switch which will prevent accidental erasure of data, but I haven't been able to locate this. The 64MB (megabyte) JumpDrive can hold as much data as about 45 floppy desks (great for backup when you don't have a zip drive, and much more portable than a zip drive). The 128MB stores twice as much information, and the 32MB one half as much. Current Amazon.com prices (subject to change of course) for the Lexar are as follows:

Lexar claims you can attach this with your keys, but some users report that they are uneasy with the prospect of damaging or losing the Jumpflash. There's also a top with a ballpoint-pen like clip--if you've ever lost a pen, you may also lose the Lexar Jumpdrive as well. The clip does not dit that snugly anyway. I suggest transporting it in a briefcase, a purse, a wallet, or whatever you feel safest with.

This product works great been using it for 4 months. You don't have to download any software if you're running anything up from Windows ME. Stores an equivalent of 44 floppies in a small package.

Not durable.......2004-01-21

While this jumpdrive is very useful when it is functional there are a few fatal flaws. First, just dropping your keychain can cause the plastic to shatter, making it impossible to carry. Second, the plastic case splits off very easily. (I was inserting it into a usb port close to a parallel printer port and it came right off and fell on the floor) Once it comes off say good bye to your data and keychain. Mine is now defunct.

A handy gadget that should please most anyone.......2003-11-20

I really like my 64 MB JumpDrive (about the only thing I like better is my 128 MB JumpDrive that I bought on sale a month after I got the 64 MB version).

These things are incredibly handy for transferring files that are too big to fit on a floppy or send as an e-mail attachment (and too small to warrant burning to a CD-R). Since your computer recognizes them as a hard drive, it's possible to work off the JumpDrive instead of copying the files to the computer's main data drive (you can also use them to store files playable by WinAmp or Windows Media Player).

Is this device for you? Bear in mind that 64 MB isn't what it used to be (15 years ago, standard hard drives had 3 times smaller storage capacity) and fills up faster than you'd think. It doesn't have the speed of USB 2.0 device, nor does it have any built-in encryption/security features--if these things are important for you, this isn't your JumpDrive. I happen to like the quirky transparent purple color, but maybe it's not your cup of tea.

The only complaints I have are that the write protect switch is awkward to move (or tell whether it's open or closed) and that the plastic cap that covers the USB connector doesn't fit snugly (however, I haven't experienced any damage to the connector yet). Given the low cost of this item compared the competition, I can live with these minor inconveniences.

If your need for an easy way to transfer files outweighs your need for blazing speed or encryption -- and you aren't going to need to move more than 50-60MB at a time -- consider this item. If your needs lie elsewhere, don't feel bad passing this item by; whichever JumpDrive (or similar portable USB flash drive) you purchase is sure to become one of your favorite electronic gadgets.

Great product.......2003-10-21

You will truly find 1,001 uses for this nifty keychain drive. The possibilities are endless. You can do some of the same things by burning files onto those little business-card size CD's, but this is rewritable. The only problem is that the little plastic cap gets lose and falls off. Otherwise, great size, great performance, great form factor, and definitely a conversation piece.

Don't buy any flash drive from this VisionTek. It failed within a year. I lost some critical data. The sad part is that I need to submit a $10 money order along with the defective drive in order to get a replacement. That means I need to take out $15 to get a replacement for VisionTek 64mb flash drive. I can buy a BRAND NEW one for that price. VisionTek is such a small company, they cannot even afford the return postage. Shame for them.

The USB drive is good, problem is $25 rebate.......2003-12-03

I brought this USB drive (my first one) in August mainly because it is inexpensive after rebate. The drive itself is pretty good, but the my problem is the $25 rebate. First, I never found my rebate info on wheresmyrebate.com. Second, I called wwwsmyrebate.com (1800-390-2344) in late Oct and was told that my rebate was going to be maild on Nov 19, 2003. You know what happened. I called again today and waited for 15 min. I was told this time that the rebate will be mailed on Dec 17, 2003. Looks like it will be my Xmas gift! The lady on the other side told me that manufacturer delayed rebate processing.
I will buy a bigger one (at least 256 MB) later on, but definitely not from VisionTek.

This comes in very handy when you want to transfer files from computer to computer. I do a lot of work at home, so it comes in handy when I am moving large data files back and forth between home and office. If you have windows XP or 2000, you don't need any installation...just plug it in and it works. If you use windows 98, you do need to install some drivers (that you can download) but this is a fault of the OS, not the flash drive.

The best way to move lots of data.......2002-12-08

I have used mine for about two weeks (the 128MB version), and I love the convenience of being able to move large files anywhere without the hassle of burning a CD-RW (that is, assuming the machines you move the data between both have CD-RW drives), or dealing with Zip disks (again, assumes both machines have Zip drives), and let's just say the floppy disk is all but dead... I really needed something to get around all these weaknesses, and the USB Flash Drive fills that requirement nicely.

I've been able to carry work files back and forth to home so I can finish projects in my spare time. I also carry a few digital music files around to enjoy while I work, no matter where I might find myself working. I can use the high-speed Internet connection on one computer to download large files, and then carry them to other computers that don't have the same Internet access... That's just the tip of the iceberg of uses I've discovered so far. Awesome idea! I want to thank whoever came up with these things!

Trust me. Just get one: you'll see. It's really just like having a tiny hard drive attached to your keyring, with all your useful data right there with you, everywhere you go. I travel a lot in my work, and it's nice to take so much information with me everywhere I go.

I have not tried this product from CD Cyclone. But, I have tried other simular USB flash memories. They all work the same way. And it seems like they have the same quality. So just be sure to look for the one with enough MB's for the best price.

For long time I have a prefer for the Netgear product, that is a great brand.

For the GS116 I recomend for smart and this small case, ideal for a desktop or tiny or flat spaces, but not for a rack. The Gigabyte perfomance is excelent ( at SOHO and Home Networks )

the only tiny cons is that package will be just little.

7 months old paper weight.......2007-07-17

Im with Bjorn, after 2 weeks of use i noticed that i had to unplug the thing after 72hrs of use. Now after 7 months i have 8 dead ports. I have always trusted Netgear, but the last 3 items i have bought from them have failed in less than a year. I don't mind tossing paper cups, i don't expect them to last very long, but swithches and routers, i expect to at least get 3 years out of them.

An economical GB switch.......2007-06-27

Right from the start, it could not be easier! If you are looking for an economical 16-Port GB switch the GS116 is an excellent choice. Simply plug it in and it works! I have installed the switch down stream from my 4-port cable router. The auto-sensing port configuration works as advertised. No problems intermixing 10,100,1000 devices. Further, the automatic uplink to the router was completely seamless without the need for a turn-over cable.

Again, if you are looking for a dumb 16-port GB switch, I highly recommend this one.

Easy to setup, fast connection.......2007-05-09

Simple plug-n-play connection, comes with studs for wall mounting. Very nice led indicators that show you when you are connected with 10/100 or 1000 mbs. These indicators let me know that I had some older CATV cables in the system. When I changed the cables to CATVe on devices that allowed 1000 mbs, the led's changed. In our small architectural office we view large image files off the server -- this switch speeds up our work significantly.

Very good product.......2007-03-19

Got it managing 10 nodes of intense traffic (mostly to an Access database) and its been doing great. Network speed increased up to 5 times using Intel and Netgear's network adapters. No problem uplinking or with mixed 100 and 1000 mbps computers working at the same time.
