This format was intended to meet the demand for playing and recording high-definition content, which far surpasses the video quality DVD can handle. HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

this player is great. blu-ray movies look absolutely amazing on this thing. of course you need to update the firmware on it, but that is a good thing. why buy a player that gets outdated? this one will keep up to date with the technology.

The system has problems - it won't play certain Blu-Ray discs and distorts other DVD's when played. I am told that I can download a patch to fix the problems, but the download doesn't work unless you create an Image of it requiring special software like Nero 7 which I don't have. All told the process is extremely time consuming. The BD-P1000 is not really a "plug and play system". On the whole, the process isn't worth the work to make the system usable and I recommend buying something that works the first time instead of buying a problem, unless you would rather do upgrades instead of watch movies.

I bought this player in June. First thing I did was upgrade the firmware, then did it again mid-june. Important to keep up on this as the technology is evolving and all the new players will require this from time to time, so keep up with it.

I have yet to find a blu-ray disc I can not play. The player is a little slow to load especially titles like pirates of the caribbean, but so is my toshiba HD-A2 on bootup. I can accept this especially being I got it about $300.00 less than the P1200. The picture is stunning, I admit I don't have a 1080p set, but in my opinion I can't tell the difference between the blu-ray and HD-DVD. On good transfers the picture is very sharp and clear. I'm not in the blu-ray or HD-DVD camp, I own both and until the 1080p 55"+ sets come down in price I will probably not see a difference between the formats, and then only if I deside to sit a distance that's in the sweet spot for that size monitor at 1080p. Remember the farther away you sit the less you can tell the differnce between 720p and 1080p.

So far this player has performed without a problem and I'm happy with it, if you find a good deal pick it up you'll wonder if you can ever look at a normal DVD again. Oh did I mention it does a good job upconverting via HDMI for standard DVDs, I think the HD-A2 does a slightly better job. That's what this review is all about the player, not the format. I don't know who will win this war, but hope the dust settles soon, so I can start collecting movies in HD.

The product upconverts to HD which is why I bought it in the first place. My only problem is when it does this, the colors change to a kind of yellowish. I have to read up on it make sure that everything is where it should be.

This is an amazing player really, and quite under rated. However, the first thing you need to do is either download the latest firmware from the Samsung website and burn it to a disc, or call Samsung and have a disc sent to you. Once you do that all is well and you'll be amazed at how well this player works (even on the latest Pirates of the Caribbean discs). The setup does take some time to do correctly, so I do advise reading the owner's manual completely before starting the setup.

      When it comes to ink for my R1800 photo printer, I am concerned with the quality of the images I print. The Epson blue UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink cartridge provides superior resistance to water, fading and smudging. It is important to me that my prints are of high quality, so I don't attempt to use the cheaper compatible ink cartridges. The color can be duplicated, but all inks are not created equal. Third party options may produce a good print initially, but may not hold up or last as long.

      If you can get past the price, this is a decent player. It works great for me; every Blu-ray I've tried has worked flawlessly. Also the DVD upconvert looks excellent

      However, the player is a bit slow. It takes about 20 seconds from turning it on until you can load a DVD or Blu-ray disk. During that time, it doesn't tell you if you've already pressed eject for the tray or not so I end up pushing it like too many times.

      The good thing is that this player offers an infared interface (unlike the PS3). I have my player in a different room and use the Logitech Harmony 890 to send RF signals which get converted to infared in the closet where I store this player. It works flawlessly, something you can't do with a PS3 (unless there is an RF to blue tooth converter)

      Considering this is a new technology and I was willing to be an early adopter, I really like the player. Seeing as how I have a massive DVD collection and about 10 Blu-rays so far, I end up using it almost every day. If you watch movies often, I think the price is justified.

      I've been debating whether to go with HD DVD or blu ray. After much thought I chose blu ray. To put it short Blu ray has better quality and more movie studios than HD DVD. Blu ray is outselling HD DVD 2 to 1. When you decide to go blu ray this Sony player is a must have. It is superior to all other blu ray players and is the most reasonably priced. You will not be dissapointed if you buy the Sony BDP-S300.

      I went to the store to buy the Toshiba HD dvd player the chip version for $300 one, there at the store i found out that the cheap model of Toshiba play is not 1080p, it is only 720p. then i bought the higher model for $450. brought it home and watched swordfish, the quality was good, but i could hardly tell the difference between my old sony up-converting dvd player quality and this toshiba quality. SO i packed and returned back to the store. Then i bough this Sony BDP S300, brought it home and i watch SHooter, wow. the quality, of the picture., sound, amazing, huge difference. I truly love it, if you have HDTV then spending about one to two hundred more for getting blu ray is not going to hurt you, but you will truly enjoy the movie as the director intended to. Now I'm totally blu ray, and i support blu ray. and i recommend everyone to buy this product, it is the best

      Picture looks great, but when you turn it on, it takes FOREVER to start up. I will keep my old Marantz DVD player to play DVD's and use this only for BRD's.

      Also, it doesn't like old-generation TV's. I had a Hitachi 42" monitor with DVI input. The Sony unit refused to even power up correctly with the Hitachi attached to it. I thought the unit was broken at first. In the end I used this as an excuse to upgrade to a 1080p unit with HDMI, but I shouldn't have had to....

      This machine is not intended for entry level equipment owners. I've discovered that many of the 3 star and below reviews on this machine are by entry level owners, you guys should probably stick to HD-DuD, since the quality of Toshiba and Micro$oft machines are more closely matched to entry level equipment. This machine is intended to offer the midrange-to-high-end equipment owners the best in image and audio quality. In short this is for the true next generation "reference" type of player. All of the electronic sites online are giving this machine a near, or perfect score. Having watched this machine in action up beside the Toshiba models I can attest to the visual excellence of this player. I even played all of the games on the Pirates of the Caribbean disks! When the entry level crowd is ready to take the next step up to stunning cinematic visuals and audio that will astound, ditch that Toshiba model and pick up Sony's BDP-S300. You will not be disappointed!

      These earplugs are "gumy" in name only. They're hard as rocks and really difficult to use for more than five or ten minutes at a time. The audio, however, is fine.

I can only wear mine for about a half hour before they begin to hurt and after an hour I have to take them out---then that's it for the whole day. They are a somewhat soft rubber on the outside but the inside is hard plastic; they are comparable in quality to the earbuds that come with iPod nanos. For the price they are adequate, but you can spend about the same or a bit more and get earbuds that are all this and that you can wear for longer as well.

      I ended up buying some "Koss "The Plug" Portable Headphones" for under $20 and can wear them all day; I would recommend something like this instead.

      I do like the colors that these earbuds come in, but they are more than an accessory for me and have to be usable as well. The sound quality is just fine for a cheaper ear bud---no complaints here.

      Mine often fall out because they do not change their shape to accommodate your ear; your ear must change shape to fit this earbud, hence the discomfort.

      First, let me say that I have tried so many earbuds. I have tried Sony's, RCA's as well as other standard earbuds. Most had decent sound. However, these are superior to all others that I have tried because:
      1) LOUDNESS: These have such great loudness quality that out of 30 max on my MP3 and CD players, with these earphones, just have to press to about 18 to 20! (All other earphones I tried I had to go to 29 to 30 to get the same loudness).
      2) Comfort: These fit my ears better than any other earbuds I have tried and they are really comfortable. (Yes, they do have to be adjusted from time to time, but not as much as the other brands).
      3) Quality: These earphones have great sounds in both bass and treble and also midtones on music or audio files. 4) Appearance: These have the BEST appearance of all. I bought the MINT BLUE for my blue MP3 player and the green ones for my white CD/MP3 player and another green for my green MP3 player.
      5) Price: Very reasonable!
      6) ***Why did I give these a 4 and not a 5?***Gummy has updated these headphones and made 4 BIG IMPROVEMENTS: 1) The cord is somewhat thicker and does not get as tangled as the old cord. 2) The cord on the newer set is a matching blue to match the earbuds. 3)The plug is straight and is a true MP3 player headset, but will fit on CD players as well. 4) More attractive overall!
      However, let me add that I own this set and have owned it since December of 2006. However, I bought 2 sets of the blue newer GUMMYS in late April on Amazon and like those better. Still using my older set with the white cord like this one and still works just great. For the money, there is not a better set of earbud/earphones that you will find.

      These are not much more comfortable than the buds that came with the iPod. My ears still hurt after wearing them for more than 30 min or so. The sound is certainly not any better and maybe a little more "distant". I think some measure of discomfort is to be expected with any in-ear bud. The wire for the phones is very soft and prone to tangle and stretch.

      These earphones are cute and worth the money for:

      1. Replacements for iPod earphones
      2. Back-up earphones
      3. Cute earphones =)

      They tangle easily but that can be avoided by wrapping them around your iPod.
      They're cheap enough carry around anywhere but valuable enough to give good sound.

      I'm 100% satisfied =D

      P.S. They might be too big for a smaller ear, but that can't really be avoided with any other earphone.
      P.P.S. Go for it.
      Buy them. =)
