I have this camera for 8 months now. I like it. I had several $600-$800 video cameras, this IS the best! Here is my review:
Pros: Great vivid, color reproduction. Really good video quality in both full light and low light conditions. Easy to operate. Intuitive interface. Reliable. Great sound recording. Nice set of features. The included DV interface is a great plus for me. The battery life is reasonable.
Cons. Still pictures taking is only mediocre. The quality is not that good. Does not have a shoulder stripe, so it is not easy to carry it around.

This is a really good camera. I had a Sony DCR-HC32 before, and this is 100 times better. Also I used to carry around both a digital camera and the video camera. Now I just use this. This is an excellent deal.
Great camcorder........2007-07-20
This is a great camcorder. It has eyepopping colors and picture. The only thing I wish it had was an animation feature where it will take a 1/4 sec or 1/8 sec frame for doing animations. Other than that, it is very good.
Outstanding camcorder!.......2007-06-27
I ordered this camcorder on May 20th of this year, and received it in about a week. Since then I have had a good amount of time to learn and play around with all of its features. I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of this camcorder. The structure is solid, navigation between features is a breeze, and the quality of the video is amazing. When researching camcorders I had a max spending amount of $500. This camcorder is worth every cent extra that I ended up paying. (Ordered for $799, and within 30 days the price dropped to $699, so I called Amazon and was refunded the amount!) If you are considering this camcorder, don't think twice and buy it!

Sturdy case........2007-01-05
I think this case is great for the Kid Tough camera. I like that it teaches my son that things should be put away safely, and as tough as the camera is, it should still be protected because it is important to him. It makes it easier to put it on a shelf or bring it with, protecting from dust, dirt, etc. However, I took one star off of my rating because rather than a handle, it has a small tab. When trying to teach my son to keep his camera safe to take it with us, it works against me because he cannot easily hold on to it. Because the camera is a good size, it usually means he uses both hand to hold it. Not convenient or practical. Fisher Price should add a common sense handle!

First I must say that you need to watch what you pay for this. I got mine at Walmart for $[...]. That is ALL it is worth. Please do not pay more.
Back to the product. This is a cute, "foamlike" case for the camera. It fits the camera very well and comes in colors to match the camera. I don't think it offers much protection because it is a bit flimsy and the camera is pretty tough on its own. For kids who insists that their camera needs a case just like mom's then it is prefect. I would recommend going with the blue one rather than the pink because it can get scuff marks very easily and the the pink shows up way too much dirt.

This camera is great for toddlers who want to do everything that Mommy and Daddy do. It has definately saved my camera from potential damage! My toddler loves to take pictures and this was perfect for him. The pictures are blurry especially in the LCD screen so an older kid might get frustrated. It is pretty heavy with all the batteries in it. It has a automatic shut off if it gets left on for even a short time and I love that, really saves batteries. Overall a great buy, keeping him away from my camera more than pays for it.

This is a great toy for your child that you dont want to mess with your high end camera. It's an excellent rugid camera. It does run through AA batteries quickly. Don't forget to bring a philips screwdriver with you to change them. Overall, not a bad camera in terms of resolution. Definitely easy to use.
teaching kids to see things their way.......2007-08-21
i work in a custom portrait studio and find myself keeping an eye on the kids while their folks look at photos. we watch tv and read etc, but their new favorite thing is to take their own pictures with the kid kamera i got online for them. they LOVE it. i LOVE it/ we have so much fun taking pics of each other, siblings, whatever. it is so awesome to "see through a child's eye". i've had this camera for about 2 months and so far it has been perfect. the only thing is the kids have to stand pretty still when they take the shot and also using the dual eye viewfinder tends to cut off heads. i have them use the lcd screen and stand still until they get what they want. this is usually just fine. i will be recommending it in our newsletter as a must have for all "my" kids this year.thanks fisher price! oh and we've dropped it a couple times and it works just like it did out of the box.
Overall good camera for a 3 year old.......2007-07-14
There's a few reasons why a parent would want a camera for their 3-year old child. Most likely they can't keep the kid away from their ready-to-break-any-second Canon Eos. Or maybe they want to cultivate the child's artistic talents. Or else they think it might be fascinating to digitally capture their child's eye-view of the world. For a 3-year old, this camera will accomplish these goals. The camera runs on 4-AA batteries. It is heavy and bulky, but durable and comfortable to wield. There is an optical viewfinder for composing the picture. There is a small LCD screen which is too grainy to be useful for framing the picture, but is OK to review pics after they are taken. There is no zoom capability, and the flash and focus are, of course, automatic. Besides the shutter release, there a 4 buttons on the camera: forward and backward scroll, on/off, and delete (more on this later).
Pros: --very durable, will practically bounce when dropped
--stylish, ergonomic, easy to point and shoot
--binocular optical viewfinder, making squinting to aim unnecessary
--automatic flash with decent indoor capabilities
--USB port- easy to download pics even without installing software
--decent storage memory
Cons: --Strangely, depite this success at simplifying digital photography for a toddler, there are some glaring defects in the design of the camera. For instance, you cannot turn off the sounds that occur whenever a button is pressed. They are loud, and not always appropriate to the setting (what if the child wanted to take pictures at a wedding? Does everyone need to hear loud squiggly beeping coming from his camera?) Also, the delete button is big and red and right there. In other words, it is the most prominent button on the camera. And it makes a cool sound when you press it too. It is easily possible to press the big red noisy button 20 times in a row, thus deleting every picture in the camera.
--Do I need to mention that the picture quality is lousy? We're not talking Carl Zeiss here. But resolution isn't everything. If a million typing monkeys could come up with Shakespeare, then a million toddlers with cameras can do Ansel Adams. Just look for the beauty through your child's eye.
There is not much good competition out there in children's digital cameras. Overall this camera is a decent choice for a toddler or preschooler. If it weren't for issues regarding the sound and button design mentioned above, I would recommend it more strongly. It takes passable pictures which are easily downloaded. It is durable, simple, easy to use, and most importantly, fun.
fisher price camera for your little shutterbug.......2007-06-28
My mom bought this toy for my three and a half year old son who loves to take pictures. We got it a few weeks before a trip to Florida. He practiced using it (with a little guidance) for a couple of weeks before we left. By the time we met my family in Florida he was a pro.
This is a great toy for teaching kids how to focus on an object. He also got a kick out of getting people posed. It really improved his technology skills (the camera holds up to 60 pictures which you can preview with easy to understand arrow buttons, it allows you to delete pictures, and it has a space for a memory card). He took pictures of half faces etc. at first; and now he knows to patiently wait for the right shot. He is great at centering objects and focusing on the important part of the picture.
We were impressed with the clarity of the pictures. I strongly recommend this gift to any child who is interested in photography. It is a great learning tool.

purchase this for christmas gift 12/6/06. not used unitl 12/26/06. camcorder eject door stopped working 04/06/07. emailed Panasonic for warranty repair- no reponse 3 wks-called 800# in manual and was told to ship to Bigston Corp for repairs-BIG MISTAKE-DO NOT SHIP ANYTHING TO THEM-
Bigston rec'd camera 5/10/07. 5/14/07 Bigston called and said repair not under warranty- would cost 207.50 to repair expect repair 2 wks., i okd that and they charged my cc 5/16., 6/4 called Bigston, no idea regarding repair, now they say add'l 85.00 for rear assby, i okd-then they charged my card 119.23, said 3-4 days for repair. June 18 i call Bigston no idea why my camera still is not repaired, could not get manager to call me back
6/19 they called said they had to order part!!!then they shipped camera back with an invoice that says i am due refund of $12.50. when i called them they said the invoice was wrong/mgr changed it after shipment!!!!!

colour drops out, frustrating response from Panasonic Australia.......2007-05-29
When it works, it's great. However each time I go on a research trip to Europe or N America (ie. costing me a lot of cash) an intermittent fault occurs where the image (in still mode or video)drops out the red range, so the recorded image has a blue cast. I am an art historian, so bringing back faulty data is not good for my research. And dealing with Panasonic Australia is a nightmare. Neither the shop, or the repairer, or the company will take final responsibility. I have sent it away twice, and today send it back for another test. Even when you provide them with the hard evidence of the fault, the camera comes back just as it was. Next stop the small claims tribunal...
Problem unit I guess.......2007-03-01
Hi,
I have had the VDR-D300 for about 6 months now. I have never gotten a recording session to last more than about 20 min. The camcorder constantly locks up, usually after about 10 min. This is on a full battery - the unit never gets even to a battery alarm. Several times the reset button nor the reset proceedure per the manual works. I must have a faulty unit. I'm investigating repair. The unit has a great lens, camera, and video image, but my unit is not stable at all.

This is a great little camera. We had an Olympus 3.2 meg still camera with a 10 time optic zoom and it was a great camera although it was a little slow to focus and had a small LCD. This panasonic is real fast as a still camera and has a much larger LCD It also has a 10 time optic zoom
and doubles as a video camera that record to DVD. It is real easy to use and we love it.What more could you want? Amazon had a great price and you can trust them.

I bought this last year with extended warranty as I have kids at home. I bet they tried their best to damage the camcorder but with no luck. That's about robustness.
It's big screen is a great feature I don't find this in latest 403. I have tried many brand of DVD's and have not experienced ANY problem with recording or playing back.
Things I like about latest 403 is, it has got 3MP still photography, a flash and a shoe to fit light. Otherwise 301 camcorder is very good espcially with marked down price. I feel like buying one more after gifting mine to my dad (against my will !! He loved it so much and he asked me first time for something and I coudn't say no).
I have seen 403 and if price and size (of LCD) dosen't matter, I recommend buying it. Otherwise 301 is the best.
I have also heared lot of guys complaining about the editing software that ships with this camcorder. Honestly for starters, it's better than pinnacle or other high tech softwares because it's easy to learn and is targeted for entire range of users.
Net net, this is a good deal. And if you got few extra bucks, go for 403.
For those looking to buy the cheapest dvd-r............2005-09-12
Don't get Memorex dvd-r! I know people buy Memorex for its price. It well known Memorex doesn't work well with any burners. Go with Sony, Verbatim, Fuji, or TDK even though you pay a bit more.
Too many error messages.......2005-09-11
I use this camera for training purposes. I need every recording to come out perfectly so that I amy critique the participants. The camera does everything it says it will do but it does not read discs well. Last week, of 3 participants in the room, the recordings failed twice. Bah, humbug Sony! I can't afford to lose a recording when my clients are paying for the training.
I'm looking for another camera.

While I know that a bigger lcd screen is going to eat up the battery faster, a 3-1/2 inch screen is an awesome thing. My eyesight isn't what it used to be, and also I sometimes like to share what I have filmed with my parents right away; the bigger screen is a significant advantage. I don't really care about the new touch screen technology--in less than careful hands I would think that your lcd could be "toast" pretty quickly. Thus I don't mind having "buttons" to push. The adjustable viewfinder (now becoming a thing of the past) is a good thing too. The picture quality was great, and the disc finalized, played back in my dvd player without a hitch. The only complaint I would have is about the battery-- the one that comes with the camera runs out pretty quick, even if you aren't using the lcd. I was going to get one of the bigger ones, but they seem significantly bigger and heavier. So I just got another one of the small ones. It would also be nice if Sony would include a compact/travel charger instead of forcing you to purchase it separate; then again, I guess that's why Sony makes the kind of money it does . . .

This is the first review that I have posted so, I hope that it helps your decision. When I bought the player I expected a fragile player with a so so image. I was wrong. the player is sturdy. the picture is great! If you get this player, mess around with it, before getting confused by the instructions, to find out how everything works. the picture color is adjustable and the sound is great. the only reason that I use headphones is so that people around me don't hear my horror movies.

I can't say enough great things about this DVD player! Perfect portability, nice viewing screen, full charge lasts for entire length of most movies - about 2-2.5 hours. Seems very rugged but I would highly recommend a dvd player case just to keep it in prestine condition. I purchased a Targus DVD backpack to carry mine in. Fits quite nicely. I had previously purchased the Coby 7" dvd tablet player and it didn't work at all. Wouldn't read the dvd's (even new ones) and kept making a scratching noise. Needless to say I sent it back right away and bought this one instead. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

My boy is a big Ben 10 fan, and absolutely loves this toy. It looks like the "real" Ben 10 Omnitrix watch. You can turn the dial to choose an alien, then push the button to activate the lights and sounds. He wears the watch all the time and always wants to play Ben 10.
If your child likes Ben 10 and pretend that he can turn into the Ben 10 aliens, then I highly recommend this toy.

This toy is so cool. My son's enjoy pretending they are Ben 10 and they love the realistic sounds this omnitrix makes. I had to buy two so that they wouldn't fight over who would be Ben 10 and which alien. We love it.
But becareful there are two styles and a cheaper version with no sounds and this one is more money but worth every penny.
Not much to watch.......2007-01-01
I bought this for my toddler. I found it pricey for what he got. It makes a bunch of different sounds, has a dial that shows tiny silouttes of various aliens. That's it. I think my son was more impressed by the fact that it looked like Ben 10's watch, instead of being impressed by its functions.
Great for Role Play -- Disappointing Customer Service.......2006-12-27
Santa brought these watches for our sons, ages 3 and 4, who love acting like they are changing into aliens and chasing "bad" guys. They were thrilled when they opened them, however, their glee turned to disappointment less than eight hours later when one of the watches stopped working. We replaced the battery this morning after the stores reopened, but that didn't help. The manufacturer, Bandai, was of no help. I've been asked to return the watch to their facility, and then in 4-6 weeks we will receive either a repaired watch, a replacement watch, or even the broken watch (if they don't have any in stock). How do you explain that to a four-year old who waited months to receive this watch?! And to make it worse, his brother's watch still works. The customer service rep was unfriendly and failed to try to help at all. Buyer beware!
