Absolutely top-of-the-line calculator for basic science courses. College-level physics, chemistry, biology, statistics--this works just fine. For more advanced math (say, 300-level and above) you may want to consider something higher, and, of course, more expensive. Great value for the money, and rock-solid plastic build!

Tired of those puny calculators with buttons the size of Tic Tacs and a screen that leaves you squinting? Give the EL-334AB a whirl. The large, sensitive buttons allow for quick calculating with few mistakes, and the screen uses relatively large letters that are easy to read across a desk. As an added bonus, the screen tilts up to 45 degrees, making this unit a viable desktop calculator as well as a practical handheld unit. The EL-334AB operates on solar power most of the time but can fall back on its included battery when you're burning the midnight oil.

Scanning the large keypad, we noticed first off the pair of yellow tax keys at the top. These let us enter a standard tax rate and then apply it to an entry or calculation with the press of a dedicated key. One will add the tax, and the other will subtract it. Obviously these keys can be used for all sorts of percentage calculations, and a separate percentage key is there to take care of everything else.

If you make a mistake while keying and entry, the backspace key lets you erase one digit at a time without having to clear the screen and start from scratch. Another nice touch was the grand-total key, which let us total the results of several separate equations that were stored in memory. Values are added to the grand-total memory each time the equals key is pressed. It's a feature not often found on calculators in this price range, and overall we found the EL-334AB an excellent choice for anyone looking for a combination of oversized keys and display, simplicity of operation, and tilting screen. --T. Sharp's EL-531RB-BL is the blue version of its EL-531RB basic scientific calculator, and, unfortunately, the cool color detracts from the unit's usability. It uses the translucent plastic so popular in electronic devices these days, and button labels tend to get lost in the clutter of internal parts that are visible.

Those willing to put up with this annoying byproduct of form over function will find that the EL-531RB-BL is a lot of calculator for the money, with features we wish every entry-level scientific calculator had. The display, for example, is a two-line design that shows the equation you've entered at the top and the numbers and symbols you are currently entering at the bottom. This makes it possible to keep track of your equation as you are entering it, and special editing and playback keys let you go back and make changes to anything you want before calculating the final results. This is a feature found only in the most expensive calculators just a few years ago, and it makes this device easy for anyone to use.

Another nice touch is the Direct Algebraic Logic entry method, which lets users enter equations exactly as they are printed on a blackboard or in a textbook. Output is purely digital--the calculator can't solve abstract algebra problems and display the results in terms of X and Y (or in any other alphanumeric terms)--and the calculator can't produce graphs, but it's excellent for number crunching and checking work for students who understand the fundamentals of problems they are working on. The calculator has 183 functions thanks to the use of a shift key, including the ability to perform statistical calculations. It also has an extremely clever integrated case cover that slides up and folds flush with the back of the unit without ever being removed from the calculator (meaning it can't be lost).

If not for the translucent casing, this model would be on equal footing with the black EL-531RB as a near-faultless entry-level scientific calculator. Its only other drawback is the lack of good documentation, as it comes with a single folded sheet that describes its operation. --T. Byrl Baker

With this calculator finishes my bachelor studies before used casio fx115d very good also but this is but it practices because it is possible to be visualized the data already placed with this calculates the hydraulic structure, electrical and of concrete armed of a habitacional complex of 10 houses.

I have used several different calculators, most of them TIs. This one, in my opinion, is far superior even to the TI graphing calculators. For everything except graphing and business calculations, this calculator offers an intuitive, user-friendly interface to calculate with. Plus, it looks cool: the iMac of the calculator world.

Impossible to find in stores!.......2001-03-24

My jr. high son uses this in school. After his was damaged we went EVERYWHERE to locate a duplicate- not to be found! Tried a Texas Instrument model- but it lacked a function necessary in school, despite its 'scientific calculator' name. This one is special because it has an attached cover that slides over and completely forms its own hard cover case over the keys, really protects it at school... AMAZON to the rescue! Priced right and delivered to my door.

It's very easy to use, you can master absolutely all options really quickly. I particularly liked the fact that I can choose how many decimal places it will show on the display, the quick and handy deg <->rad conversion and the powerful 2-variable stats mode. It's also quite fast, I've noticed the results pop up sooner than in many similarly priced calculators. ....as a bonus it looks quite cool. I give it 5 stars for sure.

Fabulous Point&Shoot.......2007-09-05

I've had this camera for at least a year now I'd guess, I bought it right after it was released. I've been nothing but pleased. That isn't to say that it has always produced fabulous pics, but for the most part any problems have been of my own making. I've used it for underwater photography with fair to good result. The UW ocean pics tend to be a bit grainy mostly due to light constraints and there is some problem with movement since not only are you likely to be moving but the fish don't generally stop and say cheese for ya either, but if you just keep clicking you'll get some very pretty shots. They won't make their way into any photo magazines or Fish Fancy, but as vacation souvenirs they are very nice. Oh and if you're just fooling around in the pool with the kids, it is really great. I've got some fabulous candids with it.

For sport shots it is exceptional. In fact, I use that setting for quite a few things just because the shutter speed is quite fast and provides a good clear picture. But sport is by no means the only really useful setting of the 20+ that are available on it. Olympus really put a lot of thought into the needs of its customers in establishing the various settings.

I love the waterproof and shockproof features which on an active beach vacation come in very handy. At the time, it was quite the conversation piece too as it was one of the first underwater digitals with no need of extra housing on the market. I haven't been in the market for another since purchasing but I can't imagine the market is now flooded with underwater digitals so snap this puppy up, you won't regret it.

Great second camera.......2007-07-20

While I use my slr for most things, sometimes it's nice to have a small, tough camera for things like the beach or hiking. This camera does the job. The shutter delay is a bit sluggish and the lack of a viewfinder can be a pain outdoors on bright days -- exactly when you'd want to use this camera -- but those are quibbles really, when you consider what you're getting: A sport utility camera suitable for 99 percent of people who want to take pictures while enjoying outdoor recreation. Even the shutter delay is workable if you remember to prefocus by depressing the shutter halfway -- or use the select a shot feature. Underwater photos are great -- but remember it's tough to actually see what you're getting via the lcd so you'll need to just shoot a bunch and edit later. That's not a big deal with digital, thankfully.

If you consider the cost of an underwater housing for any other digital, the price even seems good.

In all, I consider this an indispensible knock-about camera for catching some of life's most fun, wet and messy moments.

This is a great camera! I spend a lot of time outdoors and have had many cameras ruined (by other people) from getting wet or dropped. It really is waterproof and the pictures come out great. I haven't taken any underwater photos but i have put the camera underwater and it still works.

Pros: Small, 7.1MP, good shutterspeed, waterproof, shock-proof, large viewing screen, easy to use
Cons: Only digital zoom, not the smallest camera on the market.

Fabulous Camera!.......2007-06-27

I bought this camera a few months ago and have taken over 2000 pictures with it already. So far, I've used it for indoor and outdoor, a pool party (incuding *in* the pool), action shots with my 4-year-old, inside a very dark museum, in the aquarium (including animals on the other side of the glass), landscapes, closeups of archival documents, self-portraits, timed shots, the series shot (it takes a series of pictures every second or so and you choose the one(s) you want to keep), and more that I'm sure I'm forgetting. It's so small I carry it in my purse and have been able to catch some great moments that I otherwise would have missed. It's also tough enough to handle my son, who tends to "accidentally" drop electronics into puddles (shock and water-resistent).

The camera has performed admirably in just about everything I've asked of it. Most of the problems I've had are because I didn't know which of the 25 different automatic settings to use or didn't understand what the various additional symbols meant. The camera is so easy to get started with that it took me awhile to actually glance through the manual...which explained just about everything I was having trouble with. I still have the occasional lighting or color issue, but the camera even has editing features on it (you can actually take out redeye on the camera, without going through the computer or any outside software program). It also synced seamlessly with my mac; I just plugged it in and it started working.

The 128MB card will hold about 100 pictures, depending on what settings you're using; it's a good idea to get a GB or so if you're planning to use this for video (or if you don't take photos off of the camera very often. The battery lasts for about 3 hours of solid shooting time or weeks if you use it occasionally.

This camera now ranks as one of my best purchases ever. You can find it cheaper out there, but this is definitely worth the price!

Although it may be a bit on the expensive side, this camera is absolutely worth it! It takes great pictures in various situations (in the pool, on the beach, at night, indoors...) and also has a nice selection of scenes and settings. The fact that it's waterproof up to 16ft. and shock proof from a 5ft. drop lets me take photos anywhere. No more leaving the camera at home so it doesn't get wet/ banged around. The camera's also compact and has a nice clear LCD to view your pictures. Finally, this camera is quick; quick to power up, quick to focus, and quick enough to take pictures on the fly. The only things that I can see that might be a turn off for some are 1) the lack of a view finder and 2)the zoom, while satisfactory for myself, might not be adequate for more serious photographers.

The camera works great! I would say it will work best for someone who wants a no fess type camera. I do however have one concern. When I purchased this camera, I saw no mention of it being a refurbished item. The one I received appears to be so, at least according to the stamp on the warranty card that changes the 1 year warranty to a 90 Day Warranty because it is refurbished. So check before you buy.

I bought this camera about a year ago and I love it. I didn't have much money so I bought this Nikon camera, but even though it is so inexpensive, it is an excellent camera. It never gives me those red-eyed pictures. My pictures are always really clear.So for those people out there who want a good, inexpensive, reliable camera , I would recommend this camera. That's just my little ol' opinion.:)

Great no-fuss automatic camera.......2006-09-15

I received this camera as a gift and have used it for many years. It is a nice simple camera if you don't want to fuss with focus and lots of settings. However, it does allow you to zoom in to your subject easily. Also has a macro feature--I got some great close-up shots of orchids on my honeymoon in Hawaii! It is also easy to load with film. You just put the film in, and it winds it up nicely. I am not a professional photographer and this camera was perfect for me.

Let's see, how can I say this diplomatically........ OK, here goes; this camera ..... The picture quality is poor, the sharpness of the images is poor. The flash on button sticks out so that when you put it in your case, or as in my wifes case, her purse, all it has to do is bump something and the flash gets turned on. It doesn't have a battery saver, so you may take one picture, put the camera away and when you get it out next time the batteries are dead. This has happened to us innumerable times in spite of our awareness of the problem. It's one of those things that gets you no matter how careful you are. I wouldn't buy one used even if it were dirt cheap. Other than that, it's a great camera.............
