Well, the discs are excellent, for my purposes at least. I'm mainly using them in my computers to back up data, in dvd players, and my xbox. Only one coaster so far out of about 20, but that was completely my fault, accidentally ejecting the disc in middle of burn.
The discs themselves are great. The packaging could be a bit beefier though. When I got the package it was a little beat up. the three tabs to hold the clear part of the spindle on were all broken from moving around too much during shipping. not a big deal, but kind of annoying. And because they were rattling around, the top 3 to 5 discs are scratched up around the outside edge. So they freeze my dvd player towards the end of the movies. Oh well, there are still 95 left. Overall, they're very good quality

Personally, I purchased these discs because the manufacturer of my DVD burner recommended this brand as fully compatible. Well, they burn no problem and read without a hitch for about 2-3 months. BUT, try to read discs burned over 6 months ago, and it becomes extremely difficult for the drive to read it. If reading the entire disc, it takes 20+ times of recleaning and re-inserting the disc to eventually get it all. Once they are over a year from burning DVD players will freeze up half-way through playing it. This does it for me for write-once DVD's. Now that +RW's are cheaper and newer DVD players can play them, I'm just sticking to them.

Pick a brand, any brand. Record and archive for six months. Test your recording and see how good it is. You will probably find that a high percentage of the disks are no longer 100% readable. The Verbatim is better than any retail consumer brand blank DVD I have ever tried.

I always verify my disks after burning. I get a few coasters with Verbatim but not as many as any other brand (I have tried them all!). If it verifies as good today, it verifies as good six months from now. That is important to me.

Poor Packaging during shipping.......2007-01-06

It seems the shipper has not learned that you must put padding in large boxes with small heave dense items as they will surely flop around and break when shipped. This is twice I have ordered and twice this was done. They will not get a third chance.

I purchased this item for my SONY dvd recorder from Recording Store through Amazon Market Place. They had the recordable discs that I needed. I decided to upgrade my SONY to a newer, better dvd recorder and canceled this item 7 August 2007. It is now 13 September 2007; I am still waiting for my refund from Recording Store.

Glad 8x DVD-R are still available. I am still using an 8x DVD-RW burner in a computer and an 8x DVR that are not compatible with 16x DVD-R. I have burned around 400 Verbatim 8x DVD-R to date and have only made a few coasters primarily due to operator error. Plan on burning another 200 or more of these DVD-R.

I have used all types, brands, speeds of DVD media through the years..since 2002 and got the very first DVD recorder and owned a few since...These are By far the very best in Quality and metal azo dyes.
Superb ! The only thing tricky is the X 4 and X 8 that are with the same product code with many companies who sell these. Be careful if you
are ordering X8 and somehow you get X4 ...but regardless..they are excellent. Good price too. A great investment for archiving films.

The DVD is excellent to use. I have never had an error with any disc to date, I feel I can depend on it with full trust. The design of a movie reel is of great entertainment to me. These DVD's are the best I've ever used. They just don't feel cheap; they're not heavy, obviously, but they aren't light, either. They feel substantial, if that makes sense to you. They aren't as thin as some I've seen, and won't bend easily. They won't wilt when they get warm from the DVD drive. And the movie reel design is just cool...

Verbatim rules. I haven't had one disc fail me yet. You can tell they use a higher quality plastic in their discs. The discs look immaculate so that means their quality control standards are very high. The discs are actually made by Mitsubishi, the media code is MCC 004. Verbatim are so confident in their discs they even give you a lifetime warranty.

These are really good DVDs - I have been using them for more than a year and have not had any issues. the discs I wrote a year ago still work without any problems. I also get the full 8X speed in my external DVD writer while other brands just give me 4X max speed. Would buy again.

I've gone through nearly half a deck of 50 in a couple of days so far, and they are flawless. No coasters! No pixelation or jumping footage! Spend a bit more, but go for the Verbatim DVD+R.

Media work perfectly.......2005-03-17

I got the media after making sure that they are compatible with my NEC DVD+/-rw ND-6500A running firmware 202C. I used the disks to make back-up of my movies and they all worked. Both my old Panasonic dvd player and the XBox were able to read the disks without any issue. The quality of the movies look surperb. As of yet, I have not experienced any issue with the disks during the copying process. I highly recommend this media, just make sure they are compatible with your drive and do some research before you decide to get them. I have an NEC burner and these discs work great at 8X. Some people buy them because some Verbatim's carry an MMC003 media code and can burn at 12X. The truth is, Verbatim use to make their own media, but now just rebadges them with thier name and are actually made by varied media manufacturers. In the end, you get varied results when you burn faster than what the media is rated, becuase the media is not always the same, even though it was packaged as Verbatim. If you intend to burn at 8x, then these will be fine for your purposes. But if your intent is to burn these at above 8x, be careful, different burners will get varied and unstable results, becuase you'll never know what you'll end up with.

This media burns perfectly at 8x on my mediocre Artec DVD+-RW drive, and can be burned at up to 12x in some burners. I burned a full dvd movie in about 7 minutes, and the discs play more reliably in my 5 year old dvd player as well as PS2 than older media that burned at 2.4x.

I had a digital camera that burned through batteries. This Olympus camera was the best I have ever seen for vacationing and, of course, other uses. The camera is ready to go at a moment's notice and quickly changes from 28 to 140 mm at the press of a button. I don't have to worry about batteries or a long lag time while the camera gets ready to shoot. Also, there is no lag after the shutter is clicked as is true of digital cameras. The shutter speed goes up to 1/2000 th of a second so pictures of widely varying light content and speed are possible. The camera is compact and lightweight and self contained so you don't need a camera bag with a bunch of lenses.

This is our third "IS" Olympic camera and is replacing a broken "IS 2". My wife is the primary user and she loves all of them but especially the "IS 5". For the past month she has been using a good Nikon pocket camera with a view finder (not "through the lens"}. She couldn't wait for the new Olympus TTL. Using the IS 5 will absolutely spoil you against smaller "point and shoot" cameras. I own Nikon F and Olympus OM cameras and use IS 5 90% of the time because of ease and quality of photos. We travel all over the world and find the IS series of cameras from Olympus to be the perfect travel camera for us.

I beg to differ with bcook. I don't know what definition of SLR he is using. But interchangable lenses and hotshoes have nothing to do with whether a Camera is an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) or not. What determines this is whether or not you view through the same lense used to capture the image. Since there is only one lense on the IS-5 it is by definition a Single Lens Reflex.

As alternatives to SLRs, cheaper film cameras and all but the most expensive digital cameras used rangefinders or a second much smaller lense for viewing and more expensive cameras such as the Rollei used Twin Lens Reflexes (the expensive Leica and Contax used rangefinders too).

It is true that SLRs are ideal for interchangeable lens support. But this is a strong point of SLR design not a requirement for it.

I have owned Olympus cameras since the OM-1 (the first camera to challenge Nikon's total domination in the field of photojournalism). I also owned the IS-1 which is the first of the IS series of "all in one" film cameras. The IS-1 had a problem focusing in low and moderately low light, but otherwize was a great camera. Olympus has solved the focusing problem since the IS-2 and the IS-5 is cheaper and far better and provides one of the most convenient film cameras available. With built in flash, and a very high quality wide to telephoto zoom lense in a compact package, it's all the film camera most people will ever need.
