From the Manufacturer
Enjoy highest-quality images that are free from annoying blank spots on the LCD screen. LCD displays commonly have imperfections, termed as 'bright dots' by the LCD industry. A limited number of bright dots were once considered an inevitable side effect of LCD mass production. With Philips' strict quality control procedures used in our Portable DVD Players, our LCD displays are produced with zero tolerance for bright dots. Select Portable DVD Players come with Philips Zero Bright Dot Policy to guarantee optimal screen quality.
With DivX® support, you are able to enjoy DivX® encoded videos in the comfort of your living room. The DivX® media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, memory cards and DVD-video. DivX® CDs can be played back on selected DVD players, DVD Recorders and Home Theater Systems.
Other standard features include:
- Big screen viewing with S-Video and Component Video output.
- Built-in quality stereo speakers.
- Share entertainment fun with dual headphone jacks.

Customer Reviews:
Just as advertised.......2007-09-23
After comparing numerous dvd players and reading many reviews I choose to purchase the PET1002 mainly for my daughter to use on an upcoming car trip. The picture quality is as advertised, not even comparable to a lot of the cheaper 7 inch models, and screen size is nice. She has watched probably 40 movies on it in the last month - thinks it is hers once we came home and made it into her bedroom. No issues as of yet with playing any movies. The only issue is the volume - in the house it is fine with the volume turned up all the way - but in the car it is not loud enough. Reading about this ahead of time I purchased a set of portable speakers on Amazon at the same time, the Audiosource DB5 speakers, to use in noisy situations. These work awesome and I have since been using them with other devices - better then the computer speakers I had.
Overall, a great buy. My opionion is that you can't get a better portable DVD player for under $200.00.
Do your own research and don't rely on what you read here........2007-09-19
Now that what I said in the title, why do you want to read more?
heheh
No time?
Ya better make time, unless you have money to throw out the window.
Is that a confusing statement and seeing the five (5) star rating on this product?
Maybe..... read more to clear this up a bit.
Amazon won't let me post a detailed review due to space limitations.
So, here it is;
The bottom line of this review is; I tested all players available at Circut City store and I found this unit is better suited for my needs. It may not be for yours, but then again, that's why there are so many models out there.
My best advice;
Go to a store where you can test all of the units offered and see for yourself.
Read opinions as a reference, not as a decision to purchase anything.
If you do, I have a slightly used bridge in New York for sale if interested ;)
Just gimme a call and we'll make a deal.
BTW, Circuit City has the same price as Amazon and no delivery charge or hassle to send it back to the seller.
Happy.......2007-08-20
Excellent DVD player with great color. The volume is on the low side, you'll have trouble hearing if you use on an airplane. Happy though!!!
POOR PERFORMANCE.......2007-08-04
I AM SORRY THAT I BOUGHT THIS PLAYER.
ALTHOUR I WAS READING IN ANOTHER REVIES ABOUT NOISY MECHANISM,I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE SO NOISY AND DISTURBING IN A QUIET ROOM.
MAY BE IN THE CAR IT IS NOT NOTICEABLE.
ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT IT PRACTICALLY CAN'T PLAY DVD+, SKIPS AND STALLS ALL THE TIME ON ANY DVD+.
QUALITY OD PICTURE AND SOUND ARE GOOD.
WITH A NEW MODEL 1060 I HOPE THAT THEY CORRECTED THESE DEFICIENCIES.
THIS IS A GOOD PLAYER FOR KIDS.
Toddler approved..........2007-07-26
Originally purchased this to keep the toddler quiet during the long flight down from Detroit to the Bahamas, but ended taking it to the restaurants as well as the wedding reception as well. Kept not only our toddler quiet and still, but also my nieces and nephews... and allowed us a peaceful meal. Although the impetus was to entertain the toddler, we knew we would use it as well for bed-time watching so we wanted something high-quality and a usable size screen. Upon seeing the various size screens at the store, the 7-8" ones appeared quite small at arms length so we decided on the >10" which is just as portable (or lack there of) as the 7-8"ers. Although we haven't seen any of these units in person, most reviews seem to indicate the top displays to be from Panasonic, Toshiba, and Philips. Panasonic was substantially more expensive and had a weird, potentially non-compact profile, Toshiba's have SD memory card slots which is ideal for reviewing vacation pix on the plane home. We would have gotten that one except there wasn't sufficient customer reviews to confirm the image/sound quality. The Philips had consistant reviews, which we confirm, that the picture was excellent (0 dead pixel guarantee), built-in speaker sound was too low but headphones is fine as long as the background isn't excessively loud, and the spin-up noise is loud but who cares, it's over in 20 sec and is hardly noticeable during the movie. To our dismay, it did not include any headphones. After reading many reviews the affordable $16 Sony Street Style Headphones (MDR-G42LP) had very good sound and strong base - we also bought a $22 Philips- Reflective Neckband Headphones (HS520), but that wasn't as rich/deep as the Sony. Case is decent and includes a backseat holder. As other stated, battery does stick-out but unless you're walking around with it, no worries about it falling off the back. Toshiba uses battery slice that fits more cleanly with the unit. We really like the Toshiba features, we just wish there were more reviews to alleve any unknowns, but we are very happy with the Philips.

Adventures in viewing.......2007-08-25
I have progressed through several evolutions of portable DVD players. This unit provides the features that I have come to expect in quality DVD players. The most important feature: restart from shutdown while viewing a DVD it returns to the exact moment of the video where it was shutdown.
Controls are easy to use. It could use a digital volume control but the manual wheel control is quite serviceable. The card slot allows me to view my digital stills and videos from my camera. Quite a boon for reducing devices needed when travelling abroad. Battery life is also well rated, I have yet to run out of battery power while viewing multiple 1 hr episodes of my DVD series I watch while on commuting flights.
Toshiba 2900.......2007-08-18
This portable DVD player is the best. I looked at a lot of different portable DVD players, and am so glad I decided on this model. It's fantastic!
awesome player with multifunctional reader.......2007-07-30
I read about it and thought this was the best. I bought it because it could read DivX files from an SD card which was crucial rather than burning CDs and DVDs all the time. it's a great player with terrific battery life (~5 hrs of DVD playing, I haven't tested with just DivX, but I suspect would be longer).
The screen is bright and sharp, but sometimes, the backgrounds look a little washed out--my only complaint. The remote control is nice and places for 2 headsets. I haven't tried it on a plane yet, but it may require an amplifier booster--particularly for DivX files as it may not be loud enough.
I've never owned another portable DVD player but this one is terrific (and beats using my laptop and draining its battery life on flights). My daughter loves it. Highly recommended ---especially if your'e going to use the card reading function.
We save how much?.......2007-07-03
A quick visit to Toshiba's site will reveal that the "list price" of this player is $299. It's a nice product, but why the need to inflate the list?
Cannot go wrong!.......2007-06-05
Been a Toshiba Portable DVD fan for a number of years. In fact my Toshiba SD-P2600 is still in good working condition!. My next purchase was the SD-P2800 and than finally the incredible SD-P2900 10.2" player. All the Toshiba portables are a good investment!. This latest portable has it all for me: outstanding screen resolution (almost HD quality picture), nice large screen size, speaker fidelity not bad. Plays movie where you left off. The one thing that is truly apparent for me is the detail in the picture quality. Being a 50's sci-fi movie collector I notice detail and contrast I have never seen before from viewing these old movies!!!. To me this says alot. O well one cannot go wrong with this unit.

So Far, So Good......................2007-07-08
We purchased this unit several months ago. We got this unit for our 3 year old to watch movies on when we travel. It was a replacement for a Kawasaki unit that had recently died on us after a year or so. I expect the life of this unit should be better but I would not expect anything more than two years. My daughter uses it at home as well for maybe 30-60 minutes a day. The picture is very good, better than the Kawasaki.
Great Product.......2007-06-26
I bought this for my boyfriend because he travels a lot and so far it's been great. The sound isn't that great without headphones, but he only uses it with headphones so it's not really an issue.. The screen is huge! Just about as big as my laptop screen. Battery life is decent. If it's fully charged lasts about 3 hours.
No MMC/SD slot.......2007-06-12
I'm pretty sure the original ad by vendor said that it has a SD/MMC slot, since I googled search it. Now it's not there anymore, and I'm stuck with D2010 instead of D2016. I will not buy another product from this vendor.
Audiovox D2010 10.2" Widescreen Ultraslim Portable DVD Player.......2007-06-09
This item was purchased as a gift for my daughter and sent directly to her. Unfortuntely I can not speak to the quality of the product. The box arrived unsealed and the product "blacked out" periodically when playing a video. My daughter returned it to the vendor after much haggling about shipping, and so far we have heard nothing back.

Beautiful picture!.......2007-09-14
Purchased this portable DVD player as a gift for my electronically challenged husband. He loves it!! He prefers to see his DVD's on this player rather than the TV. The picture is crystal clear! Very easy to use, he has had no trouble figuring out how to use this player. The large screen is so easy to see. There are two ports for headphones if two people want to listen. I wish it had come with a carrying case, but am very happy with this product. I researched these players before I purchased and this player had good reviews. I would recommend this player to anyone, but especially for anyone who is older (poorer eyesight) and electronically challenged. Amazon did have the best price.
one out of three.......2007-08-31
This model has iffy sound, not very loud, the speakers should be facing us not up towards the ceiling and it stops occasionally. My Initial was much better in every way and lasted over three years. But was only a 7" and had a clearer picture, I should have stuck with that brand for how much this one cost.
no s-video output.......2007-08-10
The product description says that this unit has s-video output. The unit that I bought from Amazon does not have s-video output.
Great for traveling and good price for what you get.......2007-06-25
I had been researching portable DVD players for a while and was scared to death by all the reviews I had read. It seems I couldn't find one manufacture that had it "all". I had finally decided that I would get the Panasonic LS850 even though I read about the dreaded HO3 error with various Panasonic models. I am a Costco member and I decided that I would by it there because they have such great consumer protection. I am glad I did! I ended up not buying the Panasonic because Costco was also selling the Mintek. In all my studies I had not read horrible things about it. Just warm reviews. None of the reviews mentioned errors that would cause major repair. This player had a larger screen than the Panasonic and it came with a whole car kit: case that fits onto the headrest and two sets of headphones, along with the DC adapter for the car. I decided to give it a try and the representative at Costco told me that she had a Mintek for 5 years and it was running great. Well we took it on the road over the weekend and my daughter was able to watch her movies without any problems. The anti shock really works as I did my best at shaking it around, not too hard, to see if I could get it to skip and it didn't.
My other fear that a lot of people complain about is the noise you get from the DVD drive itself. I didn't find that a problem at all. The machine makes noise when the DVD is first put in and is loading the movie, but once it started playing it was very quiet. We were able to watch movies in our hotel room without the headphones. I also found the sound to be very adequate for the speaker size. Other complaints I read about other manufactures was that the sound was not loud enough. Not a problem with this one. I found that on full volume it was very loud. Now in the car my daughter, who is 2, used the headphones, mainly because I didn't want to hear Elmo's World over and over.
Another feature this one has over the Panasonic is a remote control with lots of features on it. The Panasonic for some reason has no remote.
I also liked the larger screen and found the resolution to be very nice actually. We watched finding Nemo in widescreen and the colors were amazing. I was worried that the screen did not do all the cool tilt features the panasonic does, but found no glare problems in the car. Now we do have tinted windows so the sun was never shinning right on the screen. Any screen would have a hard time with that.
Another feature is that when you turn the power off it knows where the movie left off. When you power it back on it automatically starts to play where you left. Most players have to stay in sleep mode to gets this feature. I mean as long as you don't take the DVD out it will go back and resume play.
One of the cons is the battery life. It is only about 2.5 hours. The panasonic claims to have a 6 hour battery life. We don't fly long distances so this may not be the player for someone who can't plug in longer than 3 hours. I don't think it would make it over the ocean. However some planes (American Airlines) are now made with ad/dc plugs for computers (we can thank the techies for a lot actually).
The bag it came with is great and keeps all the accessories. The bag fastens on to the headrest with ease and ours did not move. We have a Ford Freestyle.
One reason I had thought about the Panasonic was because it did DivX (whatever that is) because my husband was going on about it. However, he is the one who choose the Mintek. He said that since we will be using it more for our daughter we really don't need that feature and he was more attracted to the larger screen. It does make a difference.
Now, I have only had this player for a week, but it has made it through one road trip. If I have problems in the coming months I will be sure to update this review.
I bought this player for $179.00 which is a little more than what Amazon is advertizing it for, however at Costco you get the carrying bag and 2 sets of headphones. Costso also sells the Panasonice LS850 with a carrying bag for $189.00. It will really be what you prefer. After reading so many reviews on the Panasonic (different models too) about the dreaded ERROR, I decided not to tempt fate.

Stay Away From This One.....................2007-08-17
I ordered this Portable DVD after doing some research. I wanted it for work and also for roadtrips with my family.
The sound was good, it didn't skip when moved around. That was aboutall the positives I give this. The screen is not clear, a bit on the fuzzy side, the headphones that come with this are a joke, you can hear all sorts of background noise. The stop function promised to keep you place in the movie, but it never did. HOWEVER, the biggest problem was that you can hear the DVD spinning in the case while you are watching a movie.
I really can't recommend this because it is an inferior product. Lot's of promises from the manufacturer but in all a disappointing product.

Amazon.com Product Description
Polaroid's PDV-1002A portable DVD player is small enough for travel and--with its 10.2-inch, widescreen TFT LCD--broad enough to render vivid, detailed, easily viewable images from DVDs and digital photos in hotels or bedrooms. Its screen offers uncommon positioning options with its rotational design: pivot the LCD left or right and, at 180 degrees you can even tilt it back upon itself for, effectively, "closed-lid" viewing.
Ideal for international travel, the PDV-1002A's auto-sensing power supply accepts everything from AC 100V/50 Hz to AC 240V/60 Hz, letting you charge the supplied lithium-ion battery just about anywhere (it's a good idea to check the power standard and socket type for your international destination first).
At a mere 2 pounds (without the battery), you won't have to break your back to lug the player around. The PDV-1002A includes ESP (electronics shock protection) to ensure uninterrupted viewing and listening. View family snapshots from JPEG image-encoded CDs while minimizing the number of music discs you tote by taking advantage of the unit's playback abilities with MP3-encoded CD-R and CD-RW, each of which can pack about 10 albums' worth of music.
You can plug the PDV-1002A into your home theater receiver and your television using the player's composite-video output and the included audio/video interconnect larger-than-life entertainment. Want to listen in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround? Connect an optical digital-audio cable (not included) between the PDV-1002A and your compatible surround receiver and multichannel speaker system to listen to movies and concert videos in enveloping surround sound.
The rechargeable battery is good for up to 3 hours of use between charges and a total of about 300 charges. Built-in stereo speakers powered by 1 watt apiece give you a choice of listening through the device itself, through headphones, or through your home system (when connected). You can watch and/or listen with a companion, too, as the player offers not one but two headphone jacks. (Headphones are not included.)
What's in the Box
DVD player, a remote control, a remote battery, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, audio/video cables (stereo analog audio/composite-video), a DC vehicle power adapter, an AC power adapter, a carrying bag, and a user's manual.

not a great deal.......2007-07-24
I purchased this DVD player for a road trip I was taking with my 8 and 5 year old boys. I followed directions and charged the battery for exactly as long as indicated in the instructions (there are loads of warnings about not overcharging it). The battery lasted only 1 hour.
So I tried to plug it into the car charger, and the car charger melted and shorted out my car. Now it will cost me to fix the power supply in my car! And the car adapter is useles..
Awsome.......2007-03-09
I loved this portable dvd player, I guess someone else did too! The swivel screen is a very nice feature. It makes it small and compact. I guess that is what made it so easy to steal.
A hit with the whole family!.......2007-01-03
We have been very pleased with this portable DVD player. It is very easy to use, even for kids, compact, very clear and vibrant picture, connects easily to regular TV. Only issue is with sound quality - a bit tinny at higher volumes.
Quick Delivery.......2006-07-21
The DVD player is great. It is easy to use and the picture quality and sound is great. Amazon delivered the product on time. I would reccommend this DVD to anyone.
Great picture; poor sound.......2006-07-14
I have had this for over a year now. I haven't used the battery, and I don't "travel" with it. I use it in the house & for the backyard. The picture is great. There are times the lid does not catch properly. The biggest problem is the volume does not go high enough. Often I read the subtitles since I cannot get the volume any higher. I use it almost every day and it is pretty reliable. I have been pleased with the product except for the sound.

Quality issues RCA should look into- .......2007-05-31
I purchased this same product and as the first reviewer commented it did not work. The DVD would just start doing a whizzing sound but nothing would show up on the screen I took it back and had them exchange and try out the DVD player in the store before I left. The second had a DVD compartment door that did pop up (first one didn't as a revoewr commented here). I'm going on a trip with it this weekend with a [...] so I will see how it holds up. Serious quality issues here that RCA needs to look into. But the combination of games, looks, features, accesories, makes its a desirable player.
The worst.......2007-03-07
I would give it ZERO Stars if possible. I really wanted this DVD player for my kids. I mean I really wanted it. It sounds great. You can use it in the car. It has built in games. It has a battery. It comes with AC/DC plug in. It plays CD's. It claims to be made to withstand use by kids. My problem...AFTER TRYING FOUR UNITS...(NONE)OF THEM WORKED. NOT ONE EVEN STARTED TO PLAY A DVD. I TRIED MULTIPLE DVDs. THEY ALL WORKED IN MY HOME DVD PLAYER. THEY ALL WORKED IN MY OLD COBY DVD PLAYER. NOT ONE WORKED IN THIS RCA PLAYER. AFTER HOURS OF EFFORT OVER MORE THAN THREE WEEKS....I GAVE UP. FOUR PLAYERS...NOT ONE WORKED. RCA...Can you say...QUALITY CONTROL.
Not bad.......2006-11-11
We purchased this product for our toddler for long car trips. The unit works well and is quite durable, and for the price the screen is pretty good. It is bright enough for daytime use and refresh is acceptable, though the quality of the picture degrades quite a bit when viewing anywhere other than head-on, so it isn't a great choice if multiple children will be sharing a single unit.
The images of this product I've seen online are misleading. There is an additional battery pack that attaches to the base of the unit adding a bit to the overall height, although it isn't a big deal. We haven't let the battery run out, so I can't comment on its max battery life, but the battery has more than enough juice for at least a typical 90 min. movie. A car power connector cable is included with the package we purchased, which is a plus.
The double-duty controls for movie playback and game playing aren't great. The gamepad-style orange rubber buttons are also used for DVD menu navigation, and their use isn't intuitive in all situations. In addition, there is no "lock" button to prevent toddlers from messing with the controls while a movie is playing. The DVD loading mechanism can be difficult to access, although this does prevent young kids from popping a movie out too easily.
The 8-bit, NES (original Nintendo)-quality games may be in interesting addition for slightly older children, but they probably aren't a great reason to purchase this product on their own. The games are homebrew quality, with no name-brand titles. The gameplay is, however, well matched to the physical limitations of the sluggish controls.
PROS
-durable
-nice screen for the price
CONS
-screen quality degrades when viewing off-axis
-no control lock
Virtually unusable.......2006-08-13
There is only 1 noticable problem with this device. It is just about impossible to open the door to put in a new DVD. I really have no idea how any engineer could have designed something so incredibly bad. Maybe mine was broken, but it sure doesn't look like it, and it was new. I literally have to return it, it is that bad. Everything else about the device seems fine. The display is good, etc. But not being able to easily open the drive-door makes it a waste of money. You have to push the spring-loaded switch toward the middle, while lifting the door. The only problem is you have to do that with a fingernail on about a 1 millimeter high piece of plastic. If that wears off, the device is worthless. I look forward to other reviews that tell me the correct way to do it, and how easy it is, because I am stumped.

Excellent Portable DVD Player I Ever Have.......2007-06-25
It has a wider screen which is very good for viewing.Sounds are good, not scattered or dull to the ears.Features are easy to understand, not complicated.
Loud drive.......2007-06-05
Just got this from J&R. The drive is loud even after the DVD loads. Not a biggie since I plan on using it on a plane for my son.
Not pleased... but better now........2007-04-15
My wife got this for me at Christmas, and after one trip - the screen cracked internally. (No, it was not dropped! I watched it crack before my eyes!) I have been reviewing a lot of the comments on various websites and have found that Phillips apparently have discontinued this line. Since then, I tried taking it back to Circuit City, who told me even though we had purchased a full price repair policy, that they could do nothing for us. (Hint: I will be happy to hear Circuit City's side of the story, but they didn't impress me in the least.)
After my wife, who purchased the unit for me, talked for nearly an hour with the phillips people, they agreed to an RMA. Their RMA replacement will take between 10 and 15 days once they get the unit, to ship another. I can't say I'm really surprised, but I'm not that impressed either. I did recieve it in reasonable time at no cost, except for my shipping back to them. The worst part was, I was on a trip and had to lug the unit all over the USA just to be able to return it - in hopes of finding another. Many units I have read are being returned for faulty/noisy drives. I had issues with some DVD's, but it mostly was due to how well the disk was seated in the drive. This is definately *NOT* suitable for a child or anyone with low tolerances. Also, when I got it back - they failed to return my carry case or the sling for the back of the car seat. Phillips - I am NOT impressed by your product or your service. Feel free to "fix" the situation should one of your people read this review.
A good portable DVD.......2007-04-02
Overall I find this unit to be very good. I also agree with most of the other reviews. However I wanted to add a con not mentioned in the other reviews. On my unit the DVD's have to be perfect in order to play. Any small scratch that would still be playable on your main DVD player or your laptop will not play on this unit. It will simply hang up and not play.Buffing the DVD with a repair kit will not help. I had to resort to making a copy of the DVD in order to play with this unit. I suggest looking over your DVD's carefully. If any have a scratch dont expect it to play.
excellent picture, great output, caution on the price!!!!.......2006-12-25
This is an excellent dvd player, have had it for 3 months now, no problems except for the very first unit I purchased, which the door latch broke on the second day, quickly returned and has been fine since. I picked this up on clerence for about half of what the low price is now online. The external sound is a little soft, and the unit is a bit noisier than my toshiba, but the picture and output connections make up for this. The large screen and great colors on 480p are great. The Output to my tv if i hook it up works flawless. Also the DIVX and plays all really does play all. Worth a look, but a little on the to high of price if you pay more than 200 bucks for. If you spend the asking 270 or more for this unit, you may as well start looking at low end notebook computers with dvd, more bang for the buck!!

Horrible.......2007-04-15
broke after only one roadt trip. It worked great for that trip then we went to plug it back in and nothing the screen was broke. We took it back to Costco and they said that about 75% of them were being returned for various problems. Why can't they just make good long lasting dependable products anymore. That people can actually still afford. Or gaurantee there products with a longer warranty for free.
Extremely Versatile Player - Plays NTSC/PAL and Region Free Capable.......2006-07-12
I looked around for a portable DVD unit that would play multiple disk formats. This player fits the bill - according to its specs, it will play DVD+-RW, CD-R/RW, and Kodak Picture CDs. So far, I've only tested it on commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs, all which play fine.
Video quality is fine and audio via headphones is more than adequate. (Audio quality via the small onboard speakers is about on par with laptop speakers.) The player makes some noise spinning up a DVD upon first play and spinning down a DVD after a stop but there is virtually no noise during playback. Video and audio outputs are fairly minimal so it's not the ideal player if you plan on routinely hooking it up to your TV. Additional accessories are available including a component (RGB) video adaptor.
Most invaluable about this player, however, is that it can be made Region Free - i.e. you can change the region code to "0" so that it will play foreign DVDs. Go to videohelp.com to find the simple 5 step process you can follow using the included remote (no firmware update required). It will also play PAL-formatted DVDs as well as the U.S. NTSC standard. I can now play my DVDs from the U.K., as well as Australia.
Because it is so highly versatile, I highly recommend it if you are an avid DVD fan who views both U.S. and foreign DVDs. (Note, as of the time of this review, Costco is selling the unit for under $200, including a bonus accessory pack which includes a carrying case and 2 headphones).
Nice video but poor audio.......2006-03-21
Bought this for my son cos his toshiba SD-P 2600 broke. I like the picture but disappointed with the sound.
Pros: Big screen, nice picture. Plays most type of CDs.
Con: Audio. Sounds really bad.
A good deal........2006-03-05
I did a lot of research on portable dvd players, and this unit seemed to offer the most for the money. Just got it yesterday, but my wife and I am extremely impressed so far.
