Amazon.com Product Description
The PDV-0700 portable DVD player from Polaroid Electronics lets you enjoy your movies, music, and digital photos when you're on the road or relaxing in the comfort of your own home. Its autosensing power adapter (AC 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz) makes it perfect for international use, too--a great companion for business or pleasure. The book-thin, MP3-friendly player features a broad, 7-inch LCD configured in a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio whose dimensions closely approximate those of your favorite contemporary movies. A supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery keeps your discs spinning for three to four hours between charges, and the player also comes with separate AC and DC power adapters for use indoors, in cars and boats--you name it.
The PDV-0700 also offers built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening, picture zoom, and compatibility with DVD-Video, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs--not to mention digital photos stored as JPEG images on recordable CD (you can rotate and zoom on these, as well). Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-RCA coaxial cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.
Use the supplied AV interconnects to hook the player up with your television and/or stereo system. The supplied wireless, credit-card-sized remote control is just as useful within your home or without. Playback options include frame-by-frame slow motion, forward and reverse play, and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). Headphones are not included, though you do get a handy splitter for listening with a friend.
What's in the Box
DVD player, battery pack, remote control, remote battery, headphone splitter, an auto-switching AC power adapter, DC vehicle adapter, audio/video interconnects, and a user's manual.

DO NOT BUY POLAROID.......2007-07-28
I purchased this portable DVD player for our RV. We went on 2 trips and played a total of 10 movies when it no longer would work. The screen turned completely white. The DVD player was 94 days old after we returned from our 2nd trip. 4 days out of warranty - Polaroid said it was not fixable and the best they would offer is a replacement unit - for $50.00! It's only an $80 DVD player, why would I pay $50.00 when the 1st one only lasted 10 DVD's. Very unhappy with Polaroid, will never buy another one of their products!!!!!!!!!
A hit-and-miss item........2007-07-26
When portable DVD players first hit the two hundred dollar range, I bought two of these. Though I normally stay away from extended warranties, a Best Buy associate convinced me they were a good investment for electronic equipment that would be subject to a lot of movement. I bought four-year extended warranties for both. One player quickly developed a problem with the AC connection in the unit, causing it to turn on and off. Best Buy exchanged it for another Polaroid which stopped functioning after about two years. I replaced that one with a ten-inch Insignia at no cost to me, a fact made possible by a price drop in portable DVD players. From the beginning, my other Polaroid suffered from a screen that was noticeably dimmer than its twin. Despite that, the thing was a solid workhorse. It went to Hawaii twice, sat in my car repeatedly during summer heat, was bounced and jostled quite a bit, and played any burned DVD I put in it. After three years, though, I decided it would be nice to have a portable with a brighter screen for viewing in sunny conditions. I returned the unit to the store and walked out with a larger portable LG. I won't buy Polaroid again, because I've owned three and they either weren't reliable or the display didn't function as it should have. Also, the other players have a few features not available on the Polaroid model. You can't over-charge the batteries. Screens swivel and fold back, a nice feature on a plane. You can unplug the AC cord or disconnect the battery on the LG, and it will still resume play on the scene where you stopped it. The LG also has a battery good for five hours. My own experience and the reviews of others tell me it's pretty hit-and-miss with this model. Hope this helps some people. Last, let me just say, THANK YOU Best Buy associate wherever you are!
Great Buy.......2007-06-06
I have had this DVD player for a long while now. I bought this due to the Polaroid brand name. I've heard a lot of good things, especially since new management took over the quality of their product is constantly getting better. Keep up the good work Polaroid!
Junk!.......2007-04-15
We were given this for Christmas a few years ago and it only worked for a few months. Then it'd say "no disc" even when a DVD was in place. I called Polaroid's costumer service this morning and they told me that it isn't repairable. All they will do is exchange it for a new one, but I have to pay $135 for the exchange. No thanks! It's a piece of junk. :(
good while it lasted.......2007-04-14
We bought 2 of these about a year ago and have loved them. They've been handled by our 7 and 11 year olds, in and out of cars, airplanes, and all around the house. They have worked great up til recently.
One is still fine, but the power connection on the other one has gotten loose. The power cuts out when the cord is moved slightly, but it has even cut out when the player was stable on a flat surface.
Then a few days ago the screen stopped working. It's just gray. I got online hoping to find some warranty information, but instead found all of these reviews that say I'm not alone in this, and there's nothing to do but pitch it.
Fortunately, both these problems are on the same unit, and the other one is still going. For now!
***UPDATE*** July 28, 2007. The second DVD player stopped working too (BUT wait!!). It had been in our car for a month, and when we tried to turn it on a few days ago, the screen was just gray. We thought the heat from the closed up car damaged it, or it just went out like our other one.
Last night I fiddled with both of them, hoping something would jar them to work again. I couldn't bear to throw them away! I even forced the optical laser part back and forth!
I was about to give up when I toggled the A/V in/out switch for gee whiz and the player CAME ON!! I thought it was too good to be true, but it works!
Then I tried the other DVD player, still a gray screen, no spinning sound of the DVD. I held my breath, toggled the A/V switch to "out" and IT WORKED TOO. I can hardly believe it was just a matter of the switch being set to "in" rather than "out!" How dumb can we be?? And I can't believe I didn't ruin them by forcing the laser around! And I can't believe I was *this* close to throwing them away. Here's hoping they keep working... and I hope this review can "save" someone else's seemingly broken player from the trash. Check that switch!

Amazon.com Product Description
Polaroid's PDV-1002A portable DVD player is small enough for travel and--with its 10.2-inch, widescreen TFT LCD--broad enough to render vivid, detailed, easily viewable images from DVDs and digital photos in hotels or bedrooms. Its screen offers uncommon positioning options with its rotational design: pivot the LCD left or right and, at 180 degrees you can even tilt it back upon itself for, effectively, "closed-lid" viewing.
Ideal for international travel, the PDV-1002A's auto-sensing power supply accepts everything from AC 100V/50 Hz to AC 240V/60 Hz, letting you charge the supplied lithium-ion battery just about anywhere (it's a good idea to check the power standard and socket type for your international destination first).
At a mere 2 pounds (without the battery), you won't have to break your back to lug the player around. The PDV-1002A includes ESP (electronics shock protection) to ensure uninterrupted viewing and listening. View family snapshots from JPEG image-encoded CDs while minimizing the number of music discs you tote by taking advantage of the unit's playback abilities with MP3-encoded CD-R and CD-RW, each of which can pack about 10 albums' worth of music.
You can plug the PDV-1002A into your home theater receiver and your television using the player's composite-video output and the included audio/video interconnect larger-than-life entertainment. Want to listen in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround? Connect an optical digital-audio cable (not included) between the PDV-1002A and your compatible surround receiver and multichannel speaker system to listen to movies and concert videos in enveloping surround sound.
The rechargeable battery is good for up to 3 hours of use between charges and a total of about 300 charges. Built-in stereo speakers powered by 1 watt apiece give you a choice of listening through the device itself, through headphones, or through your home system (when connected). You can watch and/or listen with a companion, too, as the player offers not one but two headphone jacks. (Headphones are not included.)
What's in the Box
DVD player, a remote control, a remote battery, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, audio/video cables (stereo analog audio/composite-video), a DC vehicle power adapter, an AC power adapter, a carrying bag, and a user's manual.

not a great deal.......2007-07-24
I purchased this DVD player for a road trip I was taking with my 8 and 5 year old boys. I followed directions and charged the battery for exactly as long as indicated in the instructions (there are loads of warnings about not overcharging it). The battery lasted only 1 hour.
So I tried to plug it into the car charger, and the car charger melted and shorted out my car. Now it will cost me to fix the power supply in my car! And the car adapter is useles..
Awsome.......2007-03-09
I loved this portable dvd player, I guess someone else did too! The swivel screen is a very nice feature. It makes it small and compact. I guess that is what made it so easy to steal.
A hit with the whole family!.......2007-01-03
We have been very pleased with this portable DVD player. It is very easy to use, even for kids, compact, very clear and vibrant picture, connects easily to regular TV. Only issue is with sound quality - a bit tinny at higher volumes.
Quick Delivery.......2006-07-21
The DVD player is great. It is easy to use and the picture quality and sound is great. Amazon delivered the product on time. I would reccommend this DVD to anyone.
Great picture; poor sound.......2006-07-14
I have had this for over a year now. I haven't used the battery, and I don't "travel" with it. I use it in the house & for the backyard. The picture is great. There are times the lid does not catch properly. The biggest problem is the volume does not go high enough. Often I read the subtitles since I cannot get the volume any higher. I use it almost every day and it is pretty reliable. I have been pleased with the product except for the sound.

Do NOT buy a POLAROID DVD PLayer.......2007-08-17
I bought a similar portable DVD player from Polaroid and it's amazing how similar my experience is with all the other low scores in these reviews. It seemed to work fine for a few months of very light use. At about 6 months, it just stopped working correctly. It would jerk and freeze up whenever you tried to play a dvd. Polaroid has LOUSY support and wouldn't even respond to my emails. Please check the length of the warranty before buying anything by Polaroid. Mine was for only 3 months and even though it died at 6 months, they don't care. Not worth your money.
Terrible!.......2007-06-07
Oh but it worked just fine while under warranty - 3 months. Then all I get is black and white. Do you think my 3 kids want to watch black and white movies all the way to Florida? Buy something else. Oh yeah, when I call customer service they basically told me 'too bad, you are out of warranty. only thing we can do is replace it for $90.00' Uh, I don't think so...
Good DVD player.......2007-03-05
I bought this item and it worked perfectly fine. When I received my Xbox 360 I was planning to take it on the road and play it on the DVD player. The only problem was, unlike most DVD players, it did not have any where to plug it at. So if you are planning to play your PS2,XBox, or other consoles don't but this product.
Mine was garbage and poor warranty (90 days) Buy another brand!.......2007-02-10
I rarely give bad revues, but my experience with this DVD & a digital camera were so bad that I say two thumbs down to Polaroid.
I had an Initial and my daughter used it constantly for about a year. Then one day somebody stole it. I must have not locked the doors. :-(
This Polaroid was the replacement for that Initial. I used it once or twice and was unimpressed. By then the little one was more interested in the conversation in the car and she never used it. It sat safely in my closet for about 1 year. When I took it of of the shelf and tried to use it there was no picture.
The warranty was only for 90 days so I'm stuck. They offered to swap it out for $100. I can buy a new replacement for less!
I thought that this one was kinda thick & clunky and I really didn't like it much. I had a Polaroid digital camera which was very difficult to use and took lousy pictures, so they let me down twice. I had a few of their film cameras which were great, but based on these two items, I'll be getting a different brand replacement.
You get what you pay for.......2006-12-23
and in my case, it was free. Our company gave it to employees for Christmas '04. I only use it on long flights or train rides, about once a month, and it still works just fine. The only problem I've had, aside from the short battery life, is that the battery doesn't seem to fit very securely and I have to be careful when moving the unit while it's playing, or I loose power. I use it with high-quality digital headphones, and the sound is great. I like that its wide screen, since all my movies are in that format for my home TV. I don't use it for CD's because I have an iPod, so I don't know how well, or bad, it plays CD's. But all-in-all, its not a bad DVD player.

Try another brand.......2006-10-24
Initially bought this in July 2004. It worked fine for just over a year. Then it quit working (DVD would just spin & try to read, but no go). Called Polaroid & they invited me to send in the old unit at my expense along with $50 for a replacement (an out-of-warranty replacement), which I did. They sent back a newer model of the same player, which again lasted slightly over a year. Soo... I think it's time to try a new brand. Assuming Polaroid still offers the same replacement deal, I figure I get a $60 model of some cheapy brand and if it makes it at least a year, I'll breakeven and I won't have to make a trip to the post office and wait several weeks for the replacement.
Same bad experience as other reviewers.......2006-04-04
I did like the product in the beginning. Two months later, it stopped running the disk. Having read other reviews, now I do not even think about bringing it back to the retailer to fix it. Polaroid is always my favorite brand so this experience was quite dissapointing.
RUINS DVDS!! I will NEVER buy a Polaroid product again!.......2006-01-23
The car adapter cord started coming loose after only a few months of use. Which means the movie stops and has to be restarted by jiggling the cord (VERY upsetting for a small child!) We finally solved this by leaving the battery pack in even while it was plugged in (which the product advises not to do as the battery has a memory.) Then we discovered that the Polaroid had been ruining our DVDs! There are circular scratches on them. My husband tried to salvage them by copying them onto a new DVD but many of them he could not save. The DVDs will only play part way and then the screen starts getting stuck. We have also had issues with error messages from the Polaroid thinking there was no DVD in or that the door was open to the DVD player. This product only has a 90 day warranty - I think it is quite clear why they don't warranty it longer!
Don't buy a DVD from a camera company!!.......2005-11-29
After spending about $300 for this in October 2004, I was disappointed when the power cord stopped staying in place. Unfortunately, I waited too long to report it, so it will be cheaper to buy a new unit than have this one repaired. Also, even though we did not use the battery very often, it will no longer hold a charge (not even a minute). No more Polaroid electronics for me.
Swivel screen shorts out........2005-11-02
I bought the Polaroid because it had a swivel screen and advertised three hour batterly life. WITHIN 2 DAYS of buying it the screen was starting to flicker. Within a week the only way I could see an image on the screen was by twisting the screen a bit (like a potato chip). I'm taking it back today.
By the way. The unit comes with a case, but the battery pack will not fit in the case with the player. Oops!
Looking at the warrentee card, it only comes with a 90 day warrantee. I'm not risking my money with another one. I'll shop for a more durable model.

Really Great portable DvD player. i got it for christmas of 05. But i wish the remote buttons were all on the player itself becuase i lost my remote so i can do some stuff like fast foward. Really good picture and sound. Overall great portable dvd player
Not good.......2006-02-27
We bought this player for Christmas for our 17 year old son. He has nothing but complaints about it and he hates to complain. The on/off switch does not go off. When we put DVDs in to watch a loud clicking sound begins. At times during movies, the system just stops.
Now it is 60 days later and returning it is a pain.
Took a lick'n and kept on tick'n...........2005-12-04
I bought this model nearly two years ago because it was very inexpensive at the time, and I never expected it to last more than a few months - especially since it was being abused by a 2-year old boy. After about six months, he dropped it off a table onto the hardwood floor, and broke one of the hinges that holds the screen on. I figured that was it, but even with the screen hanging on by the ribbon cable, it still worked perfectly. I was able to fabricate a new hinge pin out of a paper clip, and we used it successfully for another 18 months. Over that period it has spent much of it's life in the back of our SUV, where it has repeatedly been dropped, kicked and stepped on. Unfortunately, my son just stepped on it once again tonight and cracked the screen. He's 4 years old now, so I guess the extra weight was just too much for the poor thing. Hey, at least it still plays music! Maybe we just got lucky with ours, but given our highly abusive experience, I would definitely have to recommend this model - especially for the price. We definitely got $170 of use out of it.

Double Disappointment.......2007-05-13
I have bought 2 Mintek DVD players, and now, shame on me. The first one worked pretty well for a while and got a lot of use. It then started to get touchy. If it is bumped in the slightest, it thinks that the DVD door opens, and the DVD starts over again. This is terrible for travel or kids.
I bought another one, thinking that it was a good machine other than that, but it has acted up from the beginning. It actually won't play some discs (that will play on the first machine). Other discs just freeze and skip and are unwatchable (but, again, they play fine on other machines).
I'm very frustrated with both machines that I bought. I cannot have had the bad luck to have bought two lemons! Just beware when buying this product.
I gave 2 stars only because the sound and picture are good (when they work!!), otherwise I'd have given one star.
Absolutely no support.......2007-01-05
It appears to work fine except possibly the AV output. It has a password in the setup that is not documented anywhere. When I tried to find out about these problems online and by phone - there was no answer (the phone mailbox is full and won't let you even leave a message). I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Sorely disappointed.......2006-10-18
Our Mintek was unreliable right out of the box. The picture and sound were decent, it's size was a great convenience when traveling, but we had trouble getting it to play and eventually it just failed on us after a few weeks. And we hardly used it much. No damage, no dropping, no abuse, nothing but love and respect. It just up and quit on us and I will never buy a Mintek product again. Truly a grand waste of our money. I'm glad others have posted positive reviews - hope they're still happy. I wish you luck if you gamble on this item.
Great for traveling with a family.......2006-07-26
This portable DVD was originally bought for a train trip and it worked great! We were in rooms not coach so the entire family was able to watch and the screen size was plenty large enough to see every thing clearly. What I especially liked was that the screen is still able to be seen from oblique angles. I was afraid that it would be like my laptop and be hard to see unless you are directly infront of it but that isn't the case at all.
The sound works well through the dual head phones and actually works surprisingly well through the speaker as well. We we able to hear the movies on the train through the speaker. Depending on the DVD sometimes it could actually get very loud.
Like the other reviewer I suggest checking out Costco to get this player, so that you can get the pack with a bag and two earphones for less that $200. The bag, I especially liked. It is a very good bag with plenty of storage.
Extremely Versatile Player - NTSC/PAL and Region Free Capable.......2006-07-12
I looked around for a portable DVD unit that would play multiple disk formats. This player fits the bill - according to its specs, it will play DVD+-RW, CD-R/RW, and Kodak Picture CDs. So far, I've only tested it on commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs, all which play fine.
Video quality is fine and audio via headphones is more than adequate. (Audio quality via the small onboard speakers is about on par with laptop speakers.) The player makes some noise spinning up a DVD upon first play and spinning down a DVD after a stop but there is virtually no noise during playback. Video and audio outputs are fairly minimal so it's not the ideal player if you plan on routinely hooking it up to your TV. Additional accessories are available including a component (RGB) video adaptor.
Most invaluable about this player, however, is that it can be made Region Free - i.e. you can change the region code to "0" so that it will play foreign DVDs. Go to videohelp.com to find the simple 5 step process you can follow using the included remote (no firmware update required). It will also play PAL-formatted DVDs as well as the U.S. NTSC standard. I can now play my DVDs from the U.K., as well as Australia.
Because it is so highly versatile, I highly recommend it if you are an avid DVD watcher who views both U.S. and foreign DVDs. (Note, as of the time of this review, Costco is selling the unit for under $200, including a bonus accessory pack which includes a carrying case and 2 headphones).
