Amazon.com Product Description
The Samsung 206BW 20-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 20-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack.
With 16.7 million colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 206BW is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.258-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 3000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicColor to improve hue and saturation of colors. This function also adjusts mid-level colors to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. By enhancing the contrast ratio with MagicColor, fresh images with exceptional clarity spring to life, even on a darker screen.
Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 206BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future. Whatever the signal sources are, this monitor will process those signals to give you an optimal viewing experience. In addition, this monitor features a standard D-Sub 15-pin connection and a fast DVI-D connection for your high-resolution demands.
Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems (including Microsoft Vista's Premium standards) and an ultra-fast 2ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Plus, with Samsung you have Magic Technologies, such asMagicBright3 and MagicTune, right at your fingertips. MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment depending on the contents of the image you are watching, and MagicTune is Samsung's OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides a simple, convenient adjustment to the best image quality. The 206BW is designed to meet VESA standards to accommodate any display type. This monitor is both wall and arm mountable, so it fits almost any environment on your desk or the wall.

Amazing Display.......2007-09-01
Came in Perfect Conditions, no Dead Pixels, Very Bright Display, excellent Quality image while watching movies or TV with my tuner, good viewing angle, the best dislay i've had, i'm switching from a CRT ViewSonic Professional Series 17", and i don't think i'll go back to my old Display
Quality Monitor.......2007-08-23
This monitor is quite a good buy at this price. It works well and has a beautiful picture. Black light bleeding is minimal on my unit. The entire picture is clear and bright. Also, I experience no ghosting while playing games. The only issue I had was with some mechanical buzzing coming from the monitor while viewing dark things such as websites and some games. I did what one other reviewer suggested and tightened my power and DVI connectors and the noise stopped. The other issue I have is the blue power LEDs are quite bright, but that problem is solved by simply turning off the monitor when it is not in use. Overall these small problems were not enough for me to lower my rating of the product.
A beautiful, sharp display, and just the right size (for me)........2007-08-18
I love this monitor, its very clear, and the response time is great. And you get the resolution of a 22" lcd! I did not experience that "digital buzz" that happens when you lower the brightness, but you could see backlight bleeding along the top of the screen when booting the computer, and that is the only time I remember seeing it, so it does not annoy me during regular use. In conclusion, it is a great buy and I am not dissapointed.
Great Monitor!.......2007-08-05
I love this monitor! The contrast and picture on this monitor are great! And you won't find a better looking monitor than this one. I did a lot of research before choosing this monitor. I don't believe there's any other 20" monitor for the price that comes close to the quality of this one! Thank you Samsung!

Samsung Syncmaster 206BW.......2007-07-29
In keeping with the prevailing aesthetic of this category, Samsung's 206BW is fancily clad in black plastic and brushed aluminum, much like ViewSonic's VX2035wm. And as with that model, you can tilt the screen only forward and back. The height stays put. A circular base serves as a lazy Susan of sorts for swivel functions.
In the past, we've taken issue with Samsung's "hands free" displays, which relegate all screen adjustments to software; fortunately, this model strikes a compromise, offering OSD buttons (in addition to the software) that are discreetly placed beneath the bezel's bottom edge. Luckily, labels on the bezel help guide your fingers. In Samsung fashion, the adjustment options are plentiful and include a handful of presets for various types of content--movies, games, text, etc. We've actually come to appreciate these presets. They make overall changes to the brightness, contrast, and gamma that would take many more steps to achieve through standard OSD operations. HD videophiles will appreciate the 206BW's HDCP support.
The 206BW's performance in DisplayMate was strong. Evidence of backlight seepage around the extreme perimeter of the screen was its most notable failing. That was sufficiently offset by stellar grayscale reproduction and marked distinctions between shades at even the extreme dark and light ends. Text looked crisp and clear, and content of all stripes, including games, was reproduced without flaws. While this was also the case with HP's L2045w, Samsung's 206BW bested that model with a more vibrant, lively picture. In the end, we're prepared to declare this our new favorite budget desktop LCD.
+ Superb grayscale; strong real-world performance.
- No screen-height adjustment; subtle perimeter backlight seepage.
Verdict: 9 out of 10
Kickass=yes

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Monitor!.......2007-08-05
Great monitor, easy to set up and install. Was a little dissapointed that it didn't come with a DVI cable, but I knew that from the beginning. I had an old 17" crt that I upgraded from and this BLOWS it away. Bright crisp picture quality. My friend has had his viewsonic for about 5 years and has always had good luck with his monitor and that is why I decided to go with this, am i'm GLAD i did!!
Worst LCD I ever bought (Q20wb).......2007-07-21
I bought this monitor one month ago. I thought ViewSonic is a good brand, but I was deadly wrong.
There are 3 major problems for the monitor:
(1) After a few days, the monitor started to give annoying noise. I did some research and found that you have to set the brightness to above 50 to avoid the noise.
(2) The design of the monitor stand is really bad. Any minor movement of my computer desk ( e.g. by the touch of my leg) is amplified to the big shaking of the monitor screen. At the end, I have to put something under the screen to make it stable.
(3) Finally, after just one month, the brightness of the monitor start to fluctuates, sometime normal, sometime just suddenly turn to yellow dim.
At the end, I had to call the ViewsSonic customer service.
The product quality is already so bad, the service quality is not better at all. A gentleman named Mark answered my call and the attitude was really rigid and "fortunately", I was allowed to ship it back (Case Number: VSA-070720-0745, ViewSonic, 381 Brea Canyon Rd, Walnut, CA 91789) so that it can be repaired. But I have to pay the shipping!
Bad experience and I will never touch this brand again.

Outstanding monitor.......2007-07-14
In a word: DAZZLING! I'm not much of a computer buff but I was in bad need of increasing my desk space(had a 17" Dell CRT). I know enough about computers to hook a couple of wires up (not much more) and straight out of the box that's what I did. Followed on screen prompts and it was a done deal. It made me realize that not only was my half ton monitor consuming lot's of desk space but it was not even close to the sharp /detail of a LCD. I would say I should have done this long ago, but long ago the prices were too high....not today. From reviews I've read ViewSonic is a solid brand so I'm not concerned about it going south any time soon. One thing you might want to do before ording this widescreen is check your computer to see if it will accept the 1680 X 1050 resolution. I found out a little late that mine would only go to 1600 X 10XX. Close enough for me and a lot better than the CRT. No regrets, and widescreens a big plus.
Beautiful, just beautiful.......2007-07-12
I went from a 17" CRT to this beauty of a monitor and I love it. I can easily multitask two windows at once with ease! the colours are fantastic, but I do notice some bleed with a blackscreen. However I'm not in need of the 'truecolour' style of perhaps an artist or someone who worked with a lot of media. for a regular gamer or computer user this monitor is a steal!
Good Monitor, but a few items to mention.......2007-07-04
Overall this is a great monitor. The quality is very good and I love the widescreen, however there are a couple minor negatives worth mentioning...
1) There are no pass through USB ports on the monitor. Since I have had this in the past, I REALLY miss it. I feel that all monitors should have at least one pass-through USB port. Pass-throughs are great for flash drives.
2) The monitor doesn't blank out, it remains on. If this is a user error, then the menu is not very intuitive. I set the "OSD Time Out" (whatever OSD is) to 15 minutes. I would assume that this means the monitor turns off in 15 minutes, however that is not the case. The monitor always remains on.
3) The power button is in the middle of 4 other buttons on the bottom rim of the monitor. You would assume that the power button would be next to the power light, but it's not. This is cumbersome when you want to turn the power off at night (which wouldn't be an issue if the monitor would turn itself off!!!!).
4) I needed to purchase the Neoflex LCD Stand so I could raise, lower, tilt, and turn the monitor. To me this is basic funtionality that should have been included. I purchased the stand based on other reviews and it works great.

Very Pleased.......2007-09-21
This monitor is a perfect fit for my new MacPro 2.66GHz Computer.
I cannot find any missing pixels...brightness and color are great.
Only blemish is a small spot on the lower front of the aluminum frame
where the anodizing failed to cover the spot.
Gorgeous display now at a reduced price.......2007-04-23
Recently, my wife and I each upgraded our venerable Sony Trinitron CRT displays to widescreen Viewsonic LCD displays. The major reason we bought new displays was their large size and widescreen aspect ratio which provides plenty of desktop space and obviates the need for scrolling when working with wide applications, which are becoming fairly common these days. When we chose our ViewSonic displays we both really wanted this 20" Apple display which had the best picture of all the displays we viewed. We didn't buy this Apple display because, at that time, it was too high priced for our budget. But now Apple has reduced the price of this outstanding display, and it now clearly is the best choice in a 20" widescreen LCD display. Maybe my wife and I should consider selling our very good ViewSonic displays and replacing them with this topnotch Apple model which we bother admire so thoroughly. If you are looking for a widescreen LCD display please check out this gorgeous Apple display whether you use a PC or a Mac.
Awesome display.......2007-03-14
This is an amazing display. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is because of the price. I think that its definitely worth it though. I could've gotten a display for less but I wanted it to match my macbook pro. The amount of real estate on it is incredible. It's also extremely bright, my eyes are still having to adjust to that when the display is on. All in all, apple does it again. The only thing is I hope they don't update it soon cuz i Just got it.
Use a PC? Beware. Apple's attempt to 'reach out' is non-existent.......2007-01-08
I know this monitor is top of the line. (Another big name brand also uses the same high quality S-IPS panel... but that brand seems to have far more complaints of defects despite being half the price... electronics aren't the same as the actual panel...) Back to the panel itself: The panel used is a drool-worthy .0258 dot pitch, true 8-bit, terrific viewing radius, and perfect for graphics uses (though colors should not look like they're 3D as some reviewers on 'net sites claim, that's an unwanted distortion and graphics designers usually want consistency and accuracy. So do their customers. This leads into my gripe I shall now adumbrate upon:)
My big gripe is the purported PC support, of which it gets 4 stars knocked off.
I pre-ordered one of these and then did some research as I had to wait a day for it to arrive. Glad I had, and I truly wish I could have kept the monitor; I was floored by its quality and specs.
The USB ports won't work on a PC. Fine by me, I don't care about USB ports on a monitor. Some will, so that's a caveat if you use a PC.
What I am bothered with is the lack of a Windows ICM and INF driver. That's outrageous. Especially for the price and PC compatibility claims Apple makes. This means some extra color calibration is going to have to be done and the end result is going to be an approximation (beware if anyone says the colors almost seem 3D. That's not always a plus...). Apple ought to know better than this; anyone in mid-end (or higher) professional graphics can not settle for "approximations".
Indeed, because Apple has nothing on its website and attitudes from folks on their own discussion forum that make Linux zealots come across as heavenly angels by comparison, one has to resort to freeware (that's currently at version 0.4!) to use the monitor as there aren't any settings to be found on Apple's casing, except brightness and power. Yawn. Another toy.
I would have expected even a token Windows driver, but when many reviewers have said "Get the freeware, there is no Windows driver provided", that's enough for me to avoid it.
Now some Apple fans might say "Ha ha Windoze user, PC product vendors have been doing this to us for ages so get used to it." I say in return "Well, those device drivers aren't covering every nuance like the PC equivalent does, but at least they grant you base functionality and a driver when they say it's Mac compatible! Apple's own actions are showing the contrary as there is no Windows driver at all." Touche.
So I returned it. I did not want to pay a 15% open-box restock fee for something I'd have to tinker with and may or may not be satisfied with in the end.
And, no, I can't afford the cost of a new Mac whose specs would match my current PC (that cost me less than half as much for the same amount of power, especially when it's only repurchasing Intel components, that's ridiculous.)
Sorry to be so negative as there is a lot to LOVE about this monitor, but those not in the majority position would do better to win converts by truly reaching out to them.
If you're a Mac user, go for it. Apple knows how to make terrific monitors. If you're a PC user, it will work - just don't expect instant gratification, USB ports, or Windows telling you what the brand of monitor is. Be satisfied with "unknown monitor on ___________ video card" using default VESA color settings. That's a bit risky and even Mac users on that Apple forum said to be wary for such an expensive item... and that's good enough for me.
I will add this: A 1 year warranty is unacceptable, regardless of brand. I always advocate purchasing an extended warranty, but a 1 year warranty is the manufacturer's way of telling the consumer "We lack faith in our product" and/or "If there's a problem, we want you to pony up for our bad design".
Best of the best.......2006-12-08
This monitor is of the best. If you are trying to decide between and Apple Cinema Display and something else, go with the ACD. It is a beautiful monitor and you won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent upgrade.......2007-08-31
I needed to replace an aging CRT monitor for our photo retouching and typesetting business. I did not want one of the new "widescreen" monitors, and the Viewsonic filled the bill very nicely. Good color. Easy setup.
Great monitor for price.......2007-06-24
I wanted to supplement a 19" Sony Trinitron monitor with an LCD display. The CRT has a great picture, of course. Not being a gamer, my criteria is text display. After looking over a number of LCDs at Frys (sorry Amazon) I bought this one because:
- it has excellent text rendering for an LCD, better than the other monitors at Frys until you get to some costing twice as much.
- big viewing area for over-50 eyes. The wide-screen displays are deceptive, I didn't think they really offer much more screen area. And if I want more horizontal area I'll use the Sony.
For quality alone this gets 4 stars. Factor in price and it's 5 stars. But I don't use it for much animated viewing: gaming or video/TV viewing.
Awesome Flat Panel Monitor With Spectacular Graphics........2007-06-03
This is my second ViewSonic flat panel monitor. The graphics on this monitor are awesome. Seems like a few folks bought lemons. Initially, I purchased the monitor from CompUSA. However, there were blemishes on the screen that could not be removed so I returned it. Then I purchased another one from a local Micro Center store in my hometown while I was home for Memorial day. Moreover, don't let the "I-bought-a-lemon-reviews" deter you from purchasing this monitor.
Bigger is better.......2007-05-31
I've owned a flat-panel monitor for a couple of years now (which I also have reviewed), and I love how space/weight efficient they are.
But since I started working at home, I found that I required (depending upon who you ask in the house) a bigger screen. Having used ViewSonic at work, I was familiar with their quality (plus the price was quite reasonable).
Even though I had free shipping (from CompUSA), it took just a little longer than expected, but when it did arrive, I was thrown back by the handy "suitcase" it came in (I'm still in the mind set of the old monster CRT's).
The set-up was rather easy. The only question I had was about the "other" video cable (one I was not familiar with); and the instructions did not indicate as to whether I needed just the one "standard" monitor cable, or both (in which case I would have need a new video card, and was not going to be a happy camper). But I tried just "standard" cable, and everything worked as expected.
There are also a couple small internal speakers; and I do mean small, so the sound is small & tinny (not that I really do anything on my computer that requires real speakers). ViewSonic also provided a speaker cable (unlike my last monitor manufacturer).
The menu buttons are on the side (which is fine), but the Indicator Icons on the front are just impressed into the case, and difficult to see. The menu is, as menus are, cumbersome, but not any more so than anyone else's (I'm just not a big fan of those style menus anyway).
Over all, I love my monitor, and it is WAY bigger than my old 17". So, I'm happy!
Excellent Monitor.......2007-05-17
Great display and great price. The only complaint I have is the volume control is not very user friendly but that is not a big deal for me.

It also features a wide 160-degree horizontal viewing angle, fast 16 ms (millisecond) response time, brightness rating of 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter, and 500:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)
An adaptive 4H comb filter allows improved Y/C separation, helping to clean up image outlines and eliminate extraneous colors. The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. Other TV features include picture-in-picture (PiP) capability, V-Chip parental control, and sleep timer.

Customer Reviews:
Exactly What I Needed.......2005-07-15
This tv is exactly what I needed. I purchased it for an exercise room/office. I can use it as a monitor and/or as a tv, so it saves me some space. It is also light, and the cable outlets, etc are all on the sides and the bottom, so wall-mounting would not be a problem.
The picture quality is great head-on, and from the sides as well. Looking up, though, it is terrible - so don't hang it too high on the wall.
The sound quality is fantastic. I hardly have to turn up the tv to hear it when I'm on the noisy treadmill across the room.
The picture in picture feature enables you to work on the computer and watch tv. This is one of the few features, however. It is definitely not a feature-rich item. If you want a lot of features - purchase a dedicated tv or monitor - not a combination like this one.
The manual was not very helpful, but that's alright because everything is pretty straightforward. And, the remote is just a standard remote - not too big or too small.
Overall - I am thrilled with this purchase. It was exactly what I needed!

very pleased.......2007-04-30
I am very pleased with this monitor. I did an extensive search, unfortunately primarily online -- it would be preferable to see monitors but that's not possible for all. For my Powerbook 15" G4, I looked at Apples and Samsungs, read reviews, and finally settled on this NEC because of its specs and general NEC reliability.
I've had it now almost a month, 6 or 7 or more hours/day and it's excellent, sharp, clear and true colors (as true as true is, at least) with ample adjustments possible --- and as an especial bonus, it's really helped my eyes. I had been getting quite serious eye strain with the PB (and also using an iMac) but there is something about the quality of the NEC which has helped greatly.
There is nothing else!.......2007-01-27
I was like you -- reading reviews to make sure I was choosing the right monitor. And after reading and mulling over literally hundreds of reviews - I had finally narrowed it down to one. Though I am admittedly an NEC fan at heart, I was still willing to look at what other companies have going. This is by far the nicest monitor I've come across in a long time. It's absolutely huge, colors are spot on, and I've got no issue such as ghosting, bands, etc. I couldn't be happier about this product. Though I might seem rather expensive, this monitor is definitely worth every penny!
Amazon as always has great prices, quick and reliable shipping. Thanks!

Excellent monitor.......2007-02-15
I just purchased this monitor and it is fantastic. The details are sharp and legible and at 1400x1200 - it is still crips and clear. It's nice and bright, my prior 17" monitor was a little on the dark side and this thing lights up the room.
Screen redraw is fast at 8ms and it works just great with my DVI-D connect on my video card.
I would recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking for an LCD monitor. For
<$250 you won't be making a mistake.

Product Description
Samsung's new generation Plasma Flat Panel Displays reach the highest level of performance. Drawing upon years of development and numerous picture enhancement technologies like Samsung's exclusive DNIe, these sets reproduce digital images with stunning clarity and realism. New convenience features like built-in analog tuners, integrated pedestal stand and a loaded jack-pack make set up a snap. With technology and convenience - wrapped up in a gorgeous new cosmetic design - it's sure to be the envy of the neighborhood.
Amazon.com Product Description
Now you can use your PC and enjoy home-theater entertainment all from a single, broad flat-panel screen with brilliant colors and extraordinary contrast. Samsung's 42-inch SPN4235 plasma TV offers high-definition compatibility with HD sources and a native resolution of 852 x 480 pixels. Its direct-digital DVI input works with compatible DTV set-top boxes and PCs, and the EDTV set accepts full HDTV inputs (720p, 1080i) and scales them for progressive 480p viewing.
A built-in analog tuner, a pedestal stand, and a generous array of inputs and outputs make set up a snap, and the SPN4235's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to match or approximate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts when the set is hooked up to a DTV receiver (not included).
With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile. The SPN4235 is an astoundingly slim 3.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (the set includes a convenient pedestal stand, pictured). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.
Additional inputs include one HD component-video input (480p/720p/1080i) and one SD component-video input (480i) as well as one each S-video, composite-video, and RF. Samsung's proprietary video-enhancement technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe), performs 3D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.
The set also houses a 10-watts-per-channel audio amplifier for use with optional speakers, such as those in your existing stereo or home theater, or Samsung's matching PSM4230 speakers. A dedicated subwoofer output is just what you need to hook the set up with a powered sub for rafter-rattling low frequencies from your favorite movies and music. And, if you're listening in stereo or 2.1 (stereo plus subwoofer), onboard Dolby Virtual surround sound will simulate an enveloping surround experience with no need for rear-channel speakers.
The set's NTSC two-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of two TV programs, and a fanless cooling system ensures quiet operation. Other optional accessories include a wall-mount kit (WMN4230) and a pneumatic floor stand (FS420).
What's in the Box
TV, pedestal stand, remote control, remote batteries, 3 ferrite cores, 2 speaker cables, 1 RF audio/video cable, 1 S-video cable, 1 PC cable, 1 component-video cable, 1 composite-video cable, stereo analog audio (left/right RCA) interconnect, detachable AC power cord, user's manual, and registration information.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent value, good first plasma.......2006-09-27
We bought this TV via Amazon in 2004 and have been very pleased overall. At the time it was one of the cheapest 42" plasmas available at around $2800, and now it can be had new for closer to $1500 thanks to the rapid developments in plasmas. If, like us, you don't have HDTV service or immediate plans to upgrade, it's a good choice. DVDs look excellent and standard channels (we use DirecTV and Tivo) look as good as they possibly could.
Keep in mind, though, that this isn't a top of the line and will have some trade-offs. Most notably, the resolution is not true HD even though the TV can accept all HDTV formats and will display them at its own maximum resolution. Also, there are no built in speakers or HDTV tuner, but this isn't an issue when most people will use the unit with a surround system and cable box/satellite receiver. We route all our video sources (DirecTV, DVD, VCR, video game) through a $300 Sony surround system that routes the video into a single cable to the TV and the audio to 6 satellite speakers. If you have HDTV service the set does support the DVI connector but not HDMI, so you may need an adapter.
She set emits an audible buzz that's loudest when the unit first turns on, but never goes away fully. It does not have a noisy internal cooling fan, though, as some early plasmas did. The set also radiates a lot of heat and draws a large amount of power -- more than 350 watts according to the specifications.
Many people mistakenly fault plasmas like this one for premature burn-in when what they're noticing is only temporary. If you see the shadow of a previous image on the TV you need only watch something else for a few minutes and it's gone.
Picture quality will be astounding for those upgrading from a standard CRT TV like us, but it's not perfect. Darks lack clarity and night scenes are often hard to make out. Bright scenes look excellent. We watch standard TV in the "Panorama" mode, which gradually stretches the square image to fit the rectangular screen. We prefer this to watching with gray (not black) bars on the sides of the image, but that mode is available too. DVDs will display in full 16x9 widescreen mode and look beautiful.
Poor service.......2005-02-13
This, like other Samsung products, worked great for a few months. All of a sudden it won't recognize my Mac from the DVI port. The Mac works fine with other monitors, and even a Dell LCD TV. But the Samsung no longer recognizes it. Support from both the Tweeter store where I purchased it and from Samsung direct were absolutely NO help. I would stay away from Samsung and Tweeters for this reason.
Amazing set for the money.......2005-01-26
I can't complain about this set at all. I originally had a used Daewoo plasma from sams club and it sucked big time, heated up the room like crazy, and constantly had ghosting. I returned it at sams club and bought a samsung spn4235 at circuit city because they had a promotion (2,700 dollars) plus a 300 dollar gift certificate. They were getting rid of the model to get in new ones. The only thing I was let down about was it was EDTV but I found out HDTV models were a heck of a lot more expensive. When I first got the model it had this weird clayface effect and the picture wasn't what I expected however I adjusted the settings with Avia home theatre setup and I was very impressed with dvd picture. I thought this was as good as it was going to get but recently I ordered HDTV through dish network. I thought the standard channels looked like crap but I was able to set my settings at 1080i and 16:9 and hdtv channels were amazing. The picture was very lifelike and colorful and it fit my whole screen without stretching. I watched the discovery channel and the DNIE option is great for hdtv viewing. The unit does decent with blacks but not the best. The set definitely can provide a great picture but every tv can only provide as good a picture as the source it gets from. My suggestion is if you go hdtv use either component or dvi and avoid svideo and rca cables. The price is great and if your looking to save money and have a good picture I recommend the unit. There is a slight buzzing noise but I haven't noticed it. Don't bother with the side speakers go with surround sound it will enhance your experience much more. Overall a very good unit and I am definitely not disapointed.
great price and 2 year warranty.......2004-05-22
Great picture and great sound. Especially when you hook up a subwoofer to the set. I also purchased the optional speakers which have good overall quality. I have read some other reviews regarding some buzzing with the set but I have found that when I have hooked up the speakers there are 3 screws on the side of the set. If these are overtightened this could cause some buzzing noise. By loosening the screws you can make the buzzing go completely away. It worked on my set. hope this wil help if you get some buzzing on you sets enjoy
Bright and Bold.......2004-05-19
I purchased this Plasma for a friend and have had it in my home for 2 weeks. I too have looked at many plasmas in the stores and compared. I have to say this one has a beautiful picture. Compared to true HDTV plasmas in the store, this EDTV has a great picture. It is hard to spend the extra money for subtle differences that are hard to see even side-by-side. Most of our viewing is cable or DVD movies so I can't rationalize the extra money. Even with a cable input, the picture is great. It is clear and has little "noise" or "graininess" considering it is a cable signal. Friends come over and remark what a great picture.
Internal amp for speakers is fine. The Virtual Dolby does give good impact to the 2 speaker sound. For DVD's I use my separate surround sound system. One thing Samsung forgot on this model are audio output jacks to connect internal tuner sound to your surround sound system. So many other inputs, I don't know why they forgot those outputs.
This is one of the few Plasmas that comes with a 2 year warrenty in home! The appearance of the TV is perfect in our home and looks great on or off. We are likeing it soo much, I will probably buy one for myself now that I have seen and used it my home.
