Very nice!!.......2007-09-18
This thing is really cool! Yes, it does take about a minute for it to "turn on" and be ready, but that's only a minor inconvenience. The main thing is that when you're watching an HDDVD movie, the picture and sound are awesome! Of course, some disks look better than others, but that has nothing to do with the player. It is does an excellent job of upscaling regular DVD titles (again, depending on the disk). The one thing that could be better, I guess, is what happens when you stop and "rewind" (like when you missed something that someone said, and you want to just back up). It isn't very smooth when doing this. You get about 1 frame per second when scanning backward (and probably forward as well, although I can't remember for sure). I guess it is just a lot of data and probably just the nature of HD-DVD technology in general. That's the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars. But I have to say that overall, I am not disappointed in this purchase!
HD DVD.......2007-09-17
Absolutely a great purchase as a gift or for yourself. I have owned both an HD DVD player and a Blu-ray player for over a year now and must say I am much happier with my HD DVD player and half the price.
Despite well managed advertising campaigns by the Blu-ray format, the facts are that there are more movies released and available for HD DVD then Blu-ray. The HD DVD versions are cheaper, have combo discs that allow you to also play them in a dvd player and have functionality that's not even available on Blu-ray.
Superb high tech overlay popup menus, picture in picture functionality, advanced audio tracks, interactive content and the players even connect to the internet to allow you to download live pre-views and other extra features on the newer movie releases.
Amazon is offering 3 free movies plus you get another 5 free movies in the mail in rebate for a total of 8 movies. If you deduct the amount you would have paid for these movies, the player is practically free.
Bonus this player has been reviewed and awarded as one of the best up scaling player available on the market. That means you can take any of your regular DVDs and it will upscale the image and give you an even better picture on your already existing DVD collections. Then go up even another level for superb picture quality of an actual full High Def movie.
This player is so great that I have been making this my primary gift to family members for b-days and holidays. I want all of my family and friends to enjoy the great picture it provides.
If you have a high def television and want to optimize it to give you the best possible picture you can get, this player is definitely for you.
Great hddvd player overall.......2007-09-16
The startup time for this player is still too long, even though it's faster than the old version. If you have a dic in the drive, and turn the player on solely for the purpose of removing the disc, you have to wait at least a full minute. It's very frustrating.
Otherwise, the video quality is superb. Even non-hd dvd's look better.
No 24p.......2007-09-14
With the release of the A20, this player is obsolete. The lack of firmware upgrade to 24p on the A2, makes this a no buy.
The fact that the player outputs 1080i instead of 1080p is not an issue for me. But 24p is extremely important if you have a large monitor or are using a front end projector. Without 24p, movements across the screen will judder (it is, the motion will not be smooth) when watching DVD movies.
That's too bad because otherwise it's really an excellent player with nice features. But pay the extra $50 for the A20 and get 24p capability.
Note: if your monitor or projector does not support 24p, then the A2 will suite perfectly. But if you are looking build a new home theater setup, make sure the monitor/projector, Audio Reciever and HD-DVD/Blue-Ray player are 1080p, 24p and HDMI 1.3 capable.
good for the money.......2007-09-13
Good price for getting into high-def DVD arena. Picture quality is very good for HD DVD, but had to spend some time getting my TV's picture settings right. Using it with a 1080p LCD (Toshiba Regza 47HL167) connected via HDMI, so the TV is doing the de-interlacing - the TV probably just does an average job... I would imagine this DVD player would be a great match for a HDTV with HQV video processing. Does well with standard DVD too, so at the very least you get a good upscaling DVD player. Other than occasional HDMI "handshake" mishap when switching inputs on the TV, no problems to speak of (running latest firmware upgrade).
Pros:
- good standard DVD upscaling
- ability to watch HD content on disk (1080i)
- toshiba 5-free DVD offer
- cheap
Cons:
- slow to start
- button layout on remote
- not 1080p (but this depends on how good your TV de-interlaces)
Average customer rating:
- Good product. Very happy.
- Great Product!!
- The best DVD Upconverter
- WHAT A WINNER!

Product Description
The OPPO DV-981HD is the upconverting DVD player for the ultimate home theater experience. Built upon the highly regarded OPPO OPDV971H, the DV-981HD is ideal for high definition TV's and home theater projectors. The DV-981HD excels at making standard definition DVDs look great at high definition resolutions through the use of advanced upconverting technology that outperforms most TV's built-in upconversion capabilities. The DV-981HD makes it possible for you to enjoy your existing collection of DVDs as well as new DVD titles that will continue to be released for years to come.
Amazon.com Product Description
The DV-981HD is the latest incarnation in Oppo's highly aclaimed line of upconverting DVD players. It offers an HDMI interface (HDMI Specification 1.1), with HD upconversion ouput resolutions of 720p, 1080i, and full 1080p. This is Oppo's most full-featured player yet, and as such, it's not a DVD player for people with regular analogue sets. While the DV-981HD doesn't offer component output, and doesn't output standard or native resolution, it does represent one of the best (if not the best) upconverting DVD players out there, and it's perfect for people with HDTVs up to full 1080p who aren't ready to jump on the HD DVD or Blu-ray bandwagen. In addition to excellent upconversion, the DV-981HD offers playback of a whole host of formats including DVD-Audio, Super Audio CS (SACD), Audio CDs, HDCD, WMA, Kodak Picture CDs, all version of DivX including DivX6, as well as Xvid, .SRT, .SMI, .IDX, and .SUB file formats.
Audio Features
The DV-981HD outputs audio in stereo or in 5.1 channel surround, either via HDMI, or through the included 5.1 analogue outputs. Other connections include S-Video out, and digital coaxial and optical audio outs. It features 24-bit, 192 kHz high resolution audio D/A converters, supports virtual surround in six settings, and has built-in equalizer, channel trim, and channel delay functions.
Farudgja DCDi Technology
Rather than trying to build their own upconversion technology for this machine, the Oppo DV-981HD the DCDi Faruja technology from Genesis Microchips. In addition to upscaling a DVD's native 720x480 interlaced video to 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, Farudja technology also detects content that has gone through 3:2 pull down to convert film content to NTSC for video, and recreates the original frames by blending the fields back together. It then processes for any edit mistakes and reconstrucs an accurate signal, producing an image free of motion artifacts. The unique DCDi algorithm can also identify moving edges within an image and adjust interpolation at a pixel level to create smooth edges for on-screen objects, eliminating the jaggy edges that commonly result from other upconversion techniques. Farudja processing also uses a proprietary "TruLife Enhancement" technology to identify transitions in the image considered to be details such as skin texture, freckles or hair, and enhance those to bring more detail in an image to life on the screen. This approach avoids image artefacts common with the peaking filter approach used by other systems for detail enhancement. The Farudja system uses temporal filtering for noise reduction, and can achieve 6 to 10 dB of Noise reduction without introducing artefacts or losing sharpness in the image.
Connections:

No Component Video (YPbPr/YCbCr) on the DV-981HD model. This model is designed for use with a display device with HDMI or DVI digital video input.
Compared with Other Oppo DVD player models
At the time of this writing, Oppo also has the DV-970HD upconverting player, and their original OPD971H model. Of these three models, the DV-981HD is the only that upconverts to full 1080p, the other models offer upconversion to 720p or 1080i only. Both the DV-981HD and the DV-970HD offer Super Audio CD (SACD) playback, the OPDV971H does not. The other major difference to consider is that the DV-981HD and the OPDV971H both use Farudja processing for video upconversion. The DV-970HD uses a different upconversion system that may not be as full featured as the Farudja. For this reason Oppo recommends the DV-981HD, or the OPDV971H for use with larger screen HDTVs 50 inches or greater, while the DV-970HD is only recommended for HDTVs smaller than 50-inches. Oppo recommends the DV-970HD for use with external video processors or scalers, and suggests careful calibration of both the DV-981HD and the OPDV971H when used with DLP HDTVs. Both of these players are good for use with DLP HDTVs, but for the best picture, some setup time is required. For disply with a DVI input on your HDTV, an HDMI-DVI adapter is required with both the DV-981HD and the DV-970HD models.

Customer Reviews:
Good product. Very happy........2007-09-17
I spent a while researching various products. I was almost ready to purchase a samsung upconvert, but after more research began to favor the sony. I did more research and eventually settled on the oppo.
What I like:
The upconvert works great. Regular DVD movies looked incredible.
The options/features easily outstrip other units.
Regular avi files are upconverted. For example, if you have an HD, Xvid, or divx avi it looks almost perfect under the oppo (minor pixelation in a few areas, but I believe thats do to the source file.
What I didn't like:
The remote's keys are tiny (but I use my logitech harmony now and so thats not an issue)
Stopping and removing the disc will not recall position of movie (my old sony would).
What you really need to know:
By default the oppo is at 480p, read the manual and perform the change to 1080p before inserting your first disk or you'll be disappointed
I'm very satisfied with this and recommend the extra few $ for the oppo. Especially if you have no intention of getting involved in the hd/bluray conversation.
Great Product!!.......2007-09-15
This Dvd player is the best upconverting player I have seen on the market.
It plays everything and does it very well.Very well priced and packaged
very well. This company is doing all the right things and I couldnt be more
pleased.Keep up the good work Oppo!!
The best DVD Upconverter.......2007-09-15
The Oppo DV-981HD is the best player. Upconversion is almost Blu-ray or HD-DVD quality. This was my second Oppo. Extremely satisfied.
WHAT A WINNER!.......2007-09-14
This is truly a "must have" for anyone who has a 1080p TV and a collection of DVDs.
I have watched old DVDs perk up with new vitality. The picture rivals that of the hi-def programming I see on DirecTV. I have even "A-B'd" movies in hi-def on satellite and movies I have on DVD in standard definition. The Oppo approached a VERY close-to Hi-Def image, with better adaptability to motion than the hi-def.
The sound is excellent on DVDs, CDs, DVD-Audio and SACDs.
All this plus the ability to skip over forced material at the beginning of DVD's, return to a specified spot on a disc after it has been removed from the machine to play something else, to play both NTSC and PAL discs from ALL REGIONS of the world, this has got to be one of the most versatile and easy to use DVD players invented.
Do yourself a favor before you jump into the Hi-Def DVD Wars: try this machine. If you already have a large collection of DVDs, this unit will make you think you just bought updated remasters of many of them.
Oppo 981 DVD player.......2007-09-13
This a great DVD player both price and functionaly. Its upscaling is outstanding. Its multi region, after setting the region code to zero and handles both PAL and NTSC signals displaying them on any screen.
HDMI conection is problem free and the service backup and information available from the oppo web site is great.
I highly commend this player to one and all.

Low Picture quality, Glossy screen. Sound is good........2007-09-18
I was disappointed by the Picture quality.very Low resolution. Screen is glossy and makes screen still worse. Sound is good. Model looks sexy. I would recommend Toshiba than Sony. Toshiba Pict + sound are excellent.

Great buy.......2007-09-16
This portable player is great. The picture is fantastic and the sound is great too, which surprised me after reading some reviews of other models of players. Sony is definitely the way to go.
11 MONTHS AND I HAVE TO.......2007-09-16
I have had this item for 11 months. It is now given me trouble. My movies stuck as well as other dvds. It is built well but that doesnt make for a good player. I use this about 20 hours per week on the job. Due to the nature of my work.
I have had to make another purchase and replace this one. DO NOT BUY IT.
Crappy quality.......2007-09-10
We purchased ours for our daughter to watch in the car. It hangs on the back of the passenger's head rest. After a few months it failed so we sent it for repair. We received it back and two weeks past the 1 year mark it stopped working again. We contacted Sony to learn that they'll repair it for $120 or send us a REBURBISHED one for $150-$167. You can buy a new one online for $169 with a new one year warranty.
Great...until it dies........2007-09-10
I've always been a big fan of Sony products, from TVs to VCRs, DVD players, stereo systems, etc. - all of which have served me well. But the DVPFX810 has been trouble for me. I purchased the first unit in November of 2006, returning it a month later as the battery stopped taking a charge. The second unit functioned well from January to July 2007, at which time the battery stopped taking a charge and the unit wouldn't even run directly off the supplied adapters. This time I'm returning the unit to Sony via their warranty program. Still unsure what the remedy will be (they have a 1 year warranty exchange program, so I'll probably get a new or refurbished unit). But as my warranty will expire in a few months, I'm dreading the thought of owning a product that appears to be a lemon - and what'll happen when the next battery goes. For those of you suggesting I just bite the bullet and buy a replacement battery next time, you'll be pleased to know that Sony's parts website sells the replacement battery for $299.99 - almost twice the price of the unit itself!
Aside from these battery/power issues, the unit has worked flawlessly, the screen providing an excellent picture and the unit itself seems quite durable. But until the battery/power issues are resolved, I cannot recommend the purchase of this product.
Product Description
The DVP-NC85H five-disc DVD player offers 720p/1080i upscaling through an HDMI connection (High Definition Multi Media Interface). HDMI allows the transfer of uncompressed digital audio and video signals to other HDMI equipped components, providing an uncompromised picture. It also features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, which delivers accurate and vivid images to the television. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include a 12bit/108MHz video DAC (digital to analog converter), and 24 bit/192KHz audio, providing high-quality video and audio processing for vivid images and crystal clear sound.
Amazon.com Product Description
Store hours upon hours of entertainment in Sony's DVP-NC85H/B five-disc carousel changer. This versatile unit plays DVDs and a variety of older disc formats, such as VCD and SVCD, as well as your favorite music CDs. And since the unit supports HDMI connections, you're sure to get the best picture possible.
HDMI Compatible
High-Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI) is an interface format that provides uncompressed digital audio and video directly to a digital television. It represents the current state of the art in high-definition video and sound because the information never has to be converted into an analog format. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all that information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector.
An added benefit of connecting the DVP-NC85H/B to your set with HDMI is that the unit can "upscale" commercial DVDs, which are rendered at 480p resolution, to a digitally interpolated 720p resolution, which makes for a much sharper picture.
For analog sets, the DVP-NC85H/B includes a 108 MHz 12-bit digital-to-analog converter for sharp picture and clear action. It features composite, S-video and component video connectors, as well as optical digital, coaxial digital, and RCA analog audio outputs.
Precision Cinema Progressive
While other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level, Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the pixel level. This makes the picture more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because the technology uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle the differing pixel behavior. It also uses separate algorithms to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts.
Precision Drive 3 System
Sony's DVP-NC85H/B delivers excellent picture and sound quality--even from damaged discs. How? The unit's Precision Drive 3 system allows you to playback some DVDs that may have been damaged or warped without a degradation of picture quality. This feature comes in handy when watching rentals or other heavily used discs.
MP3 and JPEG File Playback
The DVP-NC85H/B plays MP3 sound files and JPEG photo files. Simply insert the disc and use the remote control to navigate through your folders to your files.

Nice Unit.......2007-09-16
Nice unit. Works great out of the box. The DVD upconvert feature works GREAT on my HDTV -- no options, it simply scales it to fill the screen.
The Amazon listing is a bit confusing, since the customer-supplied image shows an HDMI cable. The unit does NOT include a cable, so be sure to purchase one.
Nice DVD player........2007-09-14
I have had this for about 8 mo now.. still working great. I wore out the first sony changer I had so this is the second one. This first one worked so good for so long I bought another sony. I hope this one gives me as good a service as the first one. Its very similar so I'm sure it will.

Actually, 4.5 stars...very good product.......2007-09-08
For the price, this is an excellent product. My only reservation is that I personally don't find it very intuitive to use...but the directions are reasonably good for the non-AV geek. Best of all, it was here two days after I ordered it. Would have no problems recommending both product and vendor.
Takes a long time to eject discs when off, and to play when inserting a new disc.......2007-09-08
If you buy this DVD player/recorder, just be aware that if your player is off and you want to get a disc out, you are going to wait nearly 30 seconds for it to turn on, boot up, and finally eject the disc. When it is on and you insert a disc it takes approximately 15 seconds to start playing. You may say, "big deal, It makes a good recorder." I would agree, but since ejecting and inserting/playing discs are the operations I do 90% of the time, this is a real annoyance. I had a really cheap DVD player that didn't make me wait at all, so I guess I was used to instant response. This one takes its time to respond, but I imagine it has to do with the fact that it also supports so many different formats.
I have enjoyed how well it records discs however.
Sony DVD Recorder.......2007-09-05
I've only had the opportunity to use the recorder just once, but found it very easy to use. I did have some problems determining what option the cursor was highlighting, when there were only two options, but soon figured that out. I was able to record a video disc with relative ease and looking forward to copying the other 300+ discs.
Sony brand name shows through.......2007-08-24
Bought the product after reading reviews on Amazon
Was not disappointed. It performed great. The one touch transfer
to DVD feature is fantastic.
I had a Lite-On DVD Recorder. It was giving trouble when copying
DVCs from a camcorder - introduced noise, gaps and sync-loss in audio.
Re-recorded these tapes from camcorder to Sony DVD Recorder - was perfect - no problems
Thumbs up on this Sony DVD Recorder.......2007-07-29
Easy to use, and worked great. Copied all my VHS tapes to DVD and reduced a lot of clutter.

Awesome Concept, Just a Little Rough Around the Edges.........2007-09-19
I purchased the VGP-XL1B3 about a month ago. Got it home and started loading DVD's into it. Started having problems with the carousel right away. It would not line up with the opening correctly all the time, and when you loaded a disc, it would jam halfway in. I would pull it out with tweezers, turn it off and on, and it seemed to be OK. Then About 2 weeks later and 150 DVD's into it, the DVD player wouldn't play the disc loaded into it. I then couldn't eject ANY of the 150 DVD's already in it or play them. So, resorted to cracking the unit open and removing them manually (it opens like a pc case).Amazon graciously swapped out with a new one, which has had none of the above problems. To give Sony credit, I seriously think UPS dropped the box, the way it showed up on my doorstep all beat up. Now I have been using MCE 2005 which automatically downloads cover art and descriptions, allows you to browse by genre, etc. I love not having to worry about the kids losing DVD's, or where to store them all. I also downloaded "MY MOVIES" freeware, which adds more functionality to MCE. I have a universal remote which I downloaded MCE remote IR data, and now don't even have to get off the couch to browse or watch up to 200 movies! Life is great!
Ruined more disc than its worth.......2007-09-18
I had high hopes for this unit, but it let me down. Loaded approximately 12 DVDs in it to test Vista's ability to read/download the title info. First disc seemed to go ok but took a while, got up and left. Came back, it was on one of the last disc, I hear CRUNCH!!!!! when it was kicking it out of the actual player to get the next disc. I immediately stop the process (well, only as fast as windows would let me) - pulled up the disc manager, it only managed to catalog a couple of the disc, I double click the front button to eject all - here come all 12 disc, **10 OF THEM WERE RUINED - HUGE SCRATCHES ON THE PLAYING SURFACE**** I believe it was scratching them during the reading inside the player since they were circular scratched - HUGE scratches. I'm returning it for a replacement, but at this rate, I won't have any DVD's to load/play!!!!
some hiccups but works well.......2007-08-18
Initially I had problems with this but it turns out it was a broken product, Sony replaced it and now it works seamlessly with my Media Center PC. It keeps my DVDs organized and dust free, which was all I was looking for when I bought it. I actually bought a second and daisy chain them together to increase capacity.
Not a XL1B3..............2007-05-30
What a shame, the XL1B3 from amazon just a repackage XL1B2 with updated Vista software. the manufacture date is also old.
Not different from its predecessor, XL1B2.......2007-05-25
... which only cost 199$ a couple of months ago.
The XL1B3 costs 399$- more than double.
Huh?

pleasantly surprised.......2007-08-15
I purchased this player 3 weeks ago after having tried several other inexpensive portable DVD players and eventually returning them all due to malfunctions.
I wanted a player for my 7 year old daughter and thought I'd give this one a try since it was designed with kids in mind and was in our budgeted range (cheap!). I've been very impressed with the unit.
Included in the box was the player, an ac adapter, a car adapter, a battery pack that doubles as a table stand, a remote with batteries, stereo headphones, and a carrying case.
I've used the player with DVDs, music CDs, and picture CDs and it works fine with all of them. From what I've been able to determine, it only displays wide screen mode, so some of the pictures and movies seem stretched, but that hasn't bothered my daughter at all.
Battery life lasted about 2 hours with video, about 2.5 hours with video off (listening to music).
The only cons that I've noticed with the unit, other than the inability to turn off the wide screen video:
1)The carrying case does not work to mount the unit on a headreast in the car. It is totally enclosed and is strictly for carrying the unit around. The power adapters do not fit in the carrying case with the unit.
2) The screen does well when looking at it from different angles from the sides, but you quickly lose the image when you look at it more from the top or bottom.
3) Several other players that I tried would pick up where you left off in a movie when the unit was restarted - I couldn't find that feature on this one.
4) Typical of all cheap portable players, the sound through the speakers isn't good - though it is louder than any of the other players I tried. Sound quality through the headphones is great and it even sounded excellent when I hooked it up to decent quality computer speakers.
Overall, I am very pleased with this player. I seems very durable compared to the other units I tried and is great for keeping kids entertained in the car on on an airplane. The screen is small at 4.5", but its image is as good as the larger units I tried. This unit is small enough that kids can just hold it in their hands - though a car mount would have been a nice feature. The unit is not much larger than a portable music CD player, though it is thicker and heavier due to the large battery. If you're looking for an inexpensive DVD player, I highly recommend this unit
coby tf dvd450/portable.......2007-06-30
I LIKE THIS PRODUCT BECAUSE IT IS SMALL ENOUGH BUT YET YOU CAN SEE ENOUGH. IT IS JUST CONVENIENT ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING EVERYDAY. ALL YOU NEED IS THIS EQUIPMENT WHERE YOU CAN WATCH A MOVIE OR LISTEN TO MP3. ALL IN ONE.
THE BATTERY SEEMS TO LAST LONG AND IT IS NOT THAT HEAVY LIKE THE OTHER DVD PORTABLE PLAYER.
Excellent product that is lasting.......2007-06-06
I've has several personal DVD players. I am not rough on them, but I do enjoy bringing them along when I road trip or travel. None of them have been as sturdy as this little gadget!
Since this DVD player was made for a child, it is made to endure rough traveling. It fell off my desk (onto a carpeted floor) but CONTINUED playing the DVD without a skip or hesitation!
I've had this player for two months, and it has withstood everyday use and plays DVD's without a problem. The screen may be small, but people are watching their iPod's nano-screens, and this is a IMax screen in comparison! 4.5 inches is DIAGONAL. The widescreen dimensions are lovely when watching a widescreen DVD. The picture quality is pretty good, but there could be more options for color on the player.
Overall, this is an excellent DVD player and hold up well for travel.
Product Description
The DVP-NS75H single-disc DVD player offers 720p and 1080i upscaling through an HDMI connection (High Definition Multi Media Interface).

Plays Everything!.......2007-09-20
I have had this DVD player for about 5 months and I am nothing but happy. I bought it for the upconverting feature which provides amazing results, but the biggest benefit has been that it "plays everything". I have three other DVD players in the house and often run into difficulties playing recorded media or DVDs purchased used. This Sony hasn't failed to play anything I put into it. I was hesitant to buy any Sony product other than their TVs. I have owned Sony computers, phones, personal CD Players, car stereos, and home stereo components; all were junk or failed prematurely. This unit is giving me renewed hope in Sony.
I also own a Samsung upconverting DVD player. The pictue quality is good, but it is very sensitive to media and querky in the HDMI connection. For the same price, Go Sony.
Sony DVPNS75H upscaling DVD player.......2007-09-19
DVD player that upconverts regular DVD video to HD (1080i). Works well. Needs HDMI cable.
Good for the price.......2007-08-26
Wider than I expected, but produces a good image and good audio. Looks very nice.
Fantastic!.......2007-08-22
I purchased a refurbished unit from Sony via Amazon and am very happy with it. I'm amazed at how good standard-definition DVD's can look when upscaled (in my case, to 720p). As I write this, the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray Battle is still up in the air, and the prices for those machines are way too high, but now I really don't care.
Great for the Price!.......2007-08-15
We recently purchased the same DVD player at a local discount store. The only difference is that ours came with a cable, something that other reviewers complained was lacking with Amazon's unit. We actually paid $10 more than the Amazon price, so we paid for the cable. We were unable to use it as it was too short to work with our tv cabinet. So my feeling is it's best to buy your cable and pay for exactly what you need.

Cute, but doesn't last.......2007-09-18
My 3 year old son received this as a gift for Christmas last year. I loved all the features, great sound, great picture, nice for trips to visit family two states away. The only thing I didn't like is that I had to take the player out of the case to change the disc. Would have been nice to have some way of rigging it so I didn't have to completely take it apart. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 6 months. Brand new DVDs started reporting "Wrong disc" after playing for only a few minutes. Now it constantly freezes up, or reads "Wrong disc" and won't play at all. Maybe it's just too sensitive and needs to spend all it's time indoors...not out on the highway? I will not buy Coby again after this.
Stay Away From Coby!.......2007-09-07
Although it feels like it's build quality is good, it really isn't. I've had two of these players over the past 1 1/2 years. I used them at home for my child (usually playing out to a TV) and when we're on the road (a few times a year). Both broke down in a similar fashion, the controls became inoperable. Of course the warranty (90 days) had expired. Again, although this item feels like it's solidly built it always craps out. The only reason I purchased this twice was I figured the first was a fluke and it really is inexpensive compared to the others out there. I guess you could look at it as an item that needs to be repurchased every 6 to 10 months. What a shame. Perhaps it's worth spending the extra dollars for a better made item.
Does NOT last!!!.......2007-09-06
We were very pleased with it first 2 months, however, the problems then began. First, the battery door broke.Minor repair we made. Second, we kept getting the "no disc" error. After working with it for several hours, I called Coby and was told the unit was defected. Needless to say, I was told there was nothing they could do about it although it was new. Told it only had 90 day warranty, so basically throw your defected unit away and purchase a new one. After researching, I have found several others have had this very same problem but the company was unwilling to address this frequent complaint! Save your money!
Looks good but is flauty.......2007-08-20
Bought this last Christmas and it worked great for one plane trip. After that the screen would cut out after a couple of minutes.
Now its useless.
Good looking but poor quality.
I would not recommend wasting your time on it.
Was good for about 6 months.......2007-08-11
This was a good DVD player while it lasted. I got this for my daughter for Christmas. We used it probably about 30 times and it broke down about two months ago. My husband finally took a look at it (it had an error message that said "open") and the latch for opening the case broke. I called Coby customer service and they cannot do anything about it since the warranty is good for only 60 DAYS. What a waste of money. They didn't even have any nearby repair shops to recommend! I'm going on vacation in a week and now I have to buy another NEW DVD player. Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed. We did not abuse the product and in fact, hardly used it. Will never buy another Coby product again. I recommend highly the warranty for a year because YOU'LL NEED IT! Just some sage advice from a very burnt customer.

reconditioned coby dvd-209 player.......2007-09-13
I purchased two. One works great, one not so great. The "not so great" one projects a fuzzy picture. I like the small size & functions.
Don't even think about it unless you want a disposable DVD player........2007-08-15
It played one DVD before it started to act up. After pulling the power plug and waiting over half hour to watch another DVD, it sortof played another DVD. After that it was torture leading to complete failure. I am going to take it to the range and shoot it. That will be the most fun I get out of it.
cheap!.......2007-06-26
I like a bargain, I don't want bells and whistles that cost a bunch, but I don't want to purchase an item that someone has rightly dubbed -a "throw away product". This item is just that. It is so cheaply made that is is guaranteed to break within the first six-months of use. I know this because my daughter bought this for me for my birthday and it stopped working (no picture/no disc error message) within 2-months. I was sucker enough to send the item back at huge expense (no free returns here, cost me about $20) and received a replacement after another 6-weeks. The replacement literally blew-up after about one month of use. I turned it on one evening and 'pop' and a stink and it was gone. Do not buy this product. Let's save the earth and support quality workmanship not throwaway junk.
Don't buy.......2007-06-19
After buying this DVD player it worked well for two months. The third month it began to get picky with some DVD which it didn't even recognize giving the message "no disc detected" while my other DVD players read them fine. Finally, the 4th month came and it would not recognize any DVD's. I called Coby customer service and they said my warrenty had expired and I was "out of luck." Not buying another Coby product.
Stopped working after 1 week **EDITED** - 1 STAR.......2007-06-17
This little DVD player worked great for about a week, then just gave up. It dies frequently while playing DVDs to the extent that I just can't use it anymore. I have also noticed that it has begun making quite a bit of noise while attempting to play discs and just today it stopped recognizing the top as closed, giving me an "open" message instead of playing my DVD.
I would highly recommend you spend a little more and get a player that will outlast a week.
