This is one of those cases of "I didn't know what I was missing until I tried it"
I was fine with a wired controller and decided to get this just because I wanted to be able to turn off my xbox remotely from my bed, rollover and go to sleep without having to get out of bed to put the controller away.
I wish I had gotten it from day 1 now; the lack of cables is just so comfortable I can't go back to wired now. My dog no longer trips over the cord while I'm playing, I can have the controller with me while I'm on my computer and use it to browse through pictures, videos, or music in Media Center; and it makes watching DVD movies with the girlfriend all more enjoyable since I don't have to get all tangled up with the cable every time I pause it for bathroom breaks.
Battery life so far is great; I'm not a heavy user, but I've been using this controller for about two hours every night since I got it a week ago, even with the rumble feature on I still haven't had to recharge it once.
I highly recommend this controller, and while you are at it pick up a quick charge kit too.

I fought the idea of going wireless for quite a long time, as I was extremely satisfied with my wired unit. I play with friends that have wireless controllers, I initially did not like the feel or the weight of the controller. Now having a need to purchase another controller, I decided to be the last of my team and buy one. I could not be happier! Now, I see why they have enjoyed playing wireless. Yes, I have found that the battery pack that comes with the unit and uses Two AA batteries is what makes it weigh differently. I also purchased the Quick Charge Kit, which comes with a Battery Pack which is lighter than the controllers' pack. Once I was able to charge the pack and switch it in the controller, my weight problems were gone. I simply love this controller now, wireless is the way to go!.....

It rumbles -- the $600 PS3 doesn't. It connects FLAWLESSLY. Never fails to connect and the connection never drops, ever, even though it's wireless. Battery life is extremely LONG - you'll be able to use the thing forever without recharging. Attachements exist for charge & play, Accessories for quick charge. Options for regular or rechargable batteries.

The design of the XBox 360 controller is great. I like the button layouts, the placement of the analog sticks, and the inclusion of the triggers on each side. The directional pad leaves a little to be desired, but that's a fairly minor shortcoming. And it's nice to have the big green 'X' in the middle to bring up the XBox dashboard at any time. This particular controller is wireless as well, which I consider a must these days. Why use a wired controller when the wireless offers a range of 30 feet and can be used with a rechargeable battery?
Supposedly this controller will run over 30 hours with a set of AA batteries, but I'd recommend just buying the battery pack and either charging it with a Play and Charge Kit or a Quick Charge kit. This will allow uninterrupted gaming as you can charge the controller while you're playing it simply by plugging it into the Play and Charge. Definitely worth it.
One note--many retailers offer the black controller for the same price as the white one. They're essentially the same thing--if you want the black it's worth your time to find someone who will sell it to you for the same price as the white ones cost.

I purchased this black elite controller for use primarily with the xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows. The controller works flawlessly with everything I have tried so far. It is easily recognized by PC games and console emulators with as ZSNES (the left analog works with this too!). I have not needed to use any third party button mapping software yet. If you come across a problem with the controller being recognized, try Xpadder mapping software (xpadder.com), or hold out for XBCD to finish development of the wireless drivers.

Well, seeing as though I'm a Halo fan, and was pretty disappointed in the Halo 3 Edition 360, because of it looking pretty plain, I decided to get this instead, really I think it was worth it if you're a Halo fan, the design I think is great, and the figurine, small, but very detailed. Now just like other people the only BIG problem I see is with the battery, it would have been nice to get a recharge pack or something, but all in all it's worth buying for the Halo fans.

This device works the same as all previous Xbox 360 controllers only with more attractive graphics on the front. Only die hard Halo fans need apply. What do you get for an extra $10? just the pretty looks and a little plastic army man (Okay, it is Spartan 117). I was disappointed that it did not come with the rechargeable battery for the extra money which is the reason for the lower review however, it is still a rock solid product and is recommended for the fanboy in us all.

This controller is a nice addition to any halo fans collection, but unless you really want the figure there is a rush to get one. Aside from aesthetic changes its identical to the regular controllers. The image resists scratching reasonably well. Also, the black battery pack matches this controller but unfortunately isnt included.

A great accessory.......2007-09-17
I'd longed for a thumbboard even before I heard this product was in the works. Using the gamepad to enter text is a serious drag, especially for entering prepaid codes. Once MSN Messenger support was added to Xbox Live, I almost considered plugging in a USB keyboard. But there's just something annoying about switching between a gamepad and a keyboard.
The Chatpad does exactly what it's meant to do. If you've used a Sidekick before, the feel of the keyboard should be immediately familiar but with more of a click. It's easy to use, lets you type fairly fast, and has some nice little features, like a backlight and a dedicated Messenger button, which when pressed will pause the game and pull up a small overlay box of your current Messenger conversation.
The included headset seems like a slight improvement over the original and includes the volume/mute control in the middle of the cord. Because of the change in the plug from the original, you can also use the headset with a phone, if you really want.
The only complaints I have:
* The backspace key is placed in a pretty awful position, to the right of the space bar. That takes some getting used to.
* Occasionally, you might type too fast, and rather than a delay before your typing shows up, characters are simply dropped. Hopefully, that's just a software bug that will be fixed soon.
Overall, this is a good buy if you don't like using a USB keyboard and especially if you are a Messenger user.
good - but doesn't work inside media center.......2007-09-15
I like it. Doesn't affect how you hold the controller and I don't notice it while playing games. The only thing is I like to use the media center extender on the 360 and this doesn't work inside of it (at least not yet, maybe they will update the software soon). Not a huge loss, but there are a few things, like the online xm radio access for instance, that would be easier if this worked as once in a while you have to put in usernames and passwords.

The 360 chatpad is a much-needed relief from the thumbstick method of typing messages on Xbox Live.
I have larger hands, so leaving it attached to the controller doesn't bother me while I play games. If you have smaller hands or the chat pad bothers you while playing, you can simply detach or leave detached until you need it to type.
Since it takes up the space on the controller normally allocated to the Xbox Live headset, MS has included a new headset that works with the chatpad.
I found it very easy to type with the chatpad, and overall I think it is a must-have accessory for anyone with a friends list!
The keys light up for easy use in the dark, and there is a one-press MSN button for those that want to chat in between gaming sessions. MS has really outdone themselves on this one. The 360 chatpad is an exceptional accessory for less than the price of a new game!

much easier to type on than the onscreen keyboard but not practical while you're gaming it changes the shape of the controller and makes my wrist hurt after awhile. maybe it's just something you have to get used to i don't know.

A Great Second Choice.......2007-08-28
Let me start by saying that this is a very, very good console controller. The buttons are sensitive, the joysticks are responsive. The D-pad is a bit wobbly, but I almost never play games that require, so I can't comment too much on that. I know some of my friends complain about it a bit, but its never bothered me. The reason that this only gets four stars is because its clearly the second best option out there. If you're going to buy a new 360 controller, you really need to buy the wireless one. I own both and after about six months, I only use the wireless one and this one sits in my drawer until a friend comes over to play. If wireless makes you nervous for some reason, then feel free to buy this model, but you'll be missing out.

hate the fact that on wireless controls you need to buy extra items so you always have battery life (batt. packs)..with a basic wired control...you save $$$ for those batt. packs...and you always have power for your control to play for how ever long you want to play for....thats why i gave this review 5 stars

Having owned my xbox for about four years now, i will say that the microsoft S controllers are superior in quality to second and third party products and more often then not, a comfortable alternative to the initial controller Dukes that came with the system early on.
I have all three colors of the S (hooray!), but due to constant travel of my system and its controllers between friends' houses, the blue and the green have become unresponsive. This is probably because of my practice of tightly wrapping the cords around the controller before transport. so beware: DO NOT TIGHTLY WRAP THE CORDS AROUND THE CONTROLLER!
despite these years of abuse, the black has continued to troop on, leaving me to believe it is the best.

Hi, I purchase the Microsoft XBOX 360 Wireless Controller for Windows one month ago and has a very long battery life. The bluetooth technology is a very good featur, which would go up 30 feet away fromt the reciever. The installation software is very easy to install, you just need to agree to the terms of the licance and the installation will began. The price of this controller is at a rezonable price. Universal controller for windows game........2007-08-08
It simply works. The best part is because its made my Microsoft and highly backed by them thanks to the Xbox360, all the PC games I tried were preconfigured for it to work just like they would if I was playing the xbox360 version.
my only issues with the controller is that it wouldn't update the software properly. It would prompt me to update but then tell me I wasn't connected to the internet and that it couldn't. It eventually updated after about 7 tries. And then there is the issue of turning off the controller. If you hit the guide button it pops up a small menu on the screen which shows battery life and there is a button to open some options with the mouse, but none of the options are to turn off the controller. My solution for turning off the controller has been pulling off the battery or just wait the 10 minutes for it to shut itself off.

I use this controller on both my pc and 360. It is a little of a pain to switch between but the controller was probably not designed for this kind of dual use in the same room. It is the best controller I've used. Previously my favorite was the "DUKE" controller for the first xbox. I hate the s controller.

Works great just plug the receiver and start playing, the microsoft drivers are terrible but im hoping XBCD would be available for this pad soon, comes already with batteries, it's compatible with the rechargeable batteries and the play and charge kit, it supports rumble, if your game doesn't support this controller you can use Xpadder it's free.

Seems to work with games that will support other gamepads. I have Vista 64 and Microsoft has drivers for it on their website.
THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH SOUND - PLUG IT IN AND I LOST SOUND IN MY SPEAKERS (my mobo is a Gigabyte DS3)
No support anywhere on the microsoft website or internet on this, and I saw a frazzled previous reviewer... so here's the fix:
The controller has an integrated headset feature (you can buy seperately), but your pc may (like mine did) see the controller as a Controller AND a "headset." It automatically enabled the "headset" (thus disabling my speakers).
Go to Control Panel > Sound
You'll see it as a microsoft headset device enabled -- disable this "headset". Then your speakers should come back on. This does not interfere with the joystick at all.

Works pretty well with PC and also with Xbox. The only complaint that I have is that the controller is not compatible with few PC games that I have. I have to get another logitech controller to play these games.

What a brilliant controller! I have used this controller in every single game including MineSweeper. One tiny exception is that the D-Pad won't snap appropriately ro the center. It drifts slightly to the LEFT. It makes a big difference in Halo. But overall, it's brilliant.

just thought that someone should point out that the title of this item is wrong. Thats a Guitar Hero 2 controller, with a wire. Also, the whole thing about Guitar Hero 2 for Xbox 360 never having a wireless controller is partly true. While surfing around the internet last night (trying to decide if I was to buy guitar hero for Xbox 360 or PS2[yes, I don't own it yet]) i found an product review or a wireless guitar for GH2, it was from a third party, and the catch is, you needed a regular wired Xbox 360 controller for it to work. The reviewer also stated that the makers of the wireless controller might just hold on to their product until Guitar Hero 3 comes out.
On that note, from what I've read, and what the trailer makes it sound like, Guitar Hero 3 will feature Wireless Guitars for PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii. Whether these wireless controllers will be compatable with GH1 and GH2, I don't know, I couldn't find any information on that. You would think that the developers would have thought of that, and made the hardware such so that they would, but they might just want to suck everyones money out of their pockets, and make us buy 2 new guitars. If you get all three games, don't be surprised all the sudden you realize that your going to have 4+ guitars bouncing around you house.
Someone here had mentioned that they felt like they were to close to the TV because the cord is so short, there are extensions that you can buy. they make the cord 10ft longer I believe.
Also, someone had said that the PS2 doesn't have wireless guitars, well it does.

The only real thing i don't like about this game is the Explorer controller (like the shape but hate playing one) like A real one your strumming arm hurts if you play a lot its more of a mettle rock band guitar I wish they made the Flying V instead. Its still A fun game to play I just don't like that they choose a Explorer over the many other Gipson's

I'm a lefty and I play real guitar left-handed. Playing Hero right handed is not a problem. The game is a lot of fun, and with two guitars you can spend more time playing instead of waiting to play. No one wants to wait to play.

I bought this guitar as a second guitar so we could play multiplayer Guitar Hero. The guitar itself works great and the game is a blast. My only complaint it that I have to sit closer to the TV then I would like because of the cord length. They really need a wireless version of the Guitar. My kids are always running around the room and trip over the cable as well. That said, it's still a great guitar for the game.

Hey whats up every one. I like reading reviews about the stuff i buy before it gets to me and i just have to say... Is it just me or is that one dude really sensitive about his left-handedness? lol I just cracked up pretty hard. Any way, there was that one dude who got the slow shipping and the one dude who got the fast? I think they were both flukes. My guess is amazon shipped it fine for the slow shipping guy but ups messed something up and it went in the wrong direction or something. The guy with the super fast shipping, lucky him something went wrong there to but in his favor. I did the super saver shipping and on the fifth and it is sceduled for delivery on the 17 not horrible
