Worth to pay.......2007-01-31
This is great Notebook to have. It comes true to all my expectations.
Great Notebook.......2006-11-02
It was an excellent deal and the shipping and delivery was very fast
Best Deal.......2006-08-06
The dual processor is the best computer invention in a long time. This computer is much more stable than any with a single processor. This computer is just like the Dell Inspiron and also at a great price.
Good Laptops.......2006-07-09
I do not have this model, but I recently purchased the Acer 4220 and am very pleased with it. The duo core is a really nice feature along with the other pros of Acer. This is the first Acer brand computer I have owned and I really like the design. The battery is good for 3 + hours which is also a nice plus. I will update as time goes on. Take care!
The Incredibly versatile and fully loaded notebook you can afford.......2006-06-08
There is nothing wrong with Acer. It might not be a brand name that is house hold, but it certainly has been the biggest unknown mover in the notebook market that has taken it by storm by simply making high-end notebooks affordable, and when we say affordable we mean that is shaves 1/3 of the price tag for a similar spec model with a brand name. Although brand names where important, say in the later parts of the twentieth century and the start of the twenty first you should know that even Apple have their hardware built in the Far East. All the big brands are doing it. There are companies abroad simply pumping out Apple hardware on one end with the company next door with the same trained workforce and equipment pumping out IBM hardware. A clone company opens up next door and starts putting out the same stuff under another name. Nowadays the same stuff literally means the same stuff. The difference between clones and known brands are zilch, not a thing. Nobody has the lead anymore. Your odds of buying bunk equipment are the same across the board provided that you are at least going with something that has been established for a few years. Acer is one such established line. Personally I would go with an Acer Aspire over the TravelMate because the Aspire has a flat keyboard while the TravelMate is curved. There is not much of a difference except in the shape and few other differences in specs. Just view both to see which kind you want. The Aspire is nicer if you ask me. Look at the specs on the 5000s series of Acer Aspire products. Product Features 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 is like a P4 3.0GHz chip. Core Duo is fast. I would not bother with the 64-bit AMD chip and go with 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo or better because it is a speedy Intel chip... surprisingly fast actually. 1GB DDR2 533 SDRAM is fat load of ram for a notebook. The 100GB SATA hard drive comes formatted into two partitions. That is a load of space. 15.4 WXGA TFT display is a nice sized display. I was really pushing for the 17" or even 19" screen sizes for work, but then I saw the 15.4 display and it is big enough and keeps the notebook mobile so that you can carry it around. If the screen gets bigger the notebook gets bigger and starts to impact on its portable qualities. Now check this out, ATI MOBILITY Radeon X1400 graphics card, 128MB DDR that is Windows Vista ready. WOW! And you get upgrades of 256MB or 512MB. I have played games on my notebook like Civilization IV without any major drop in fps. Although notebooks are not designed for games, the Acer Aspire doesn't seem to care or find any reason why it can't play the latest hardware demanding games with ease. It has all the ports you could want and 4 USB! The weight is 10 lbs. When you first get it and start it up it takes about 1 hour and a half to install and setup, which it does automatically. At the end have a DVD-R disc ready to burn a backup of your install which it asks for. I also have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router. I took the notebook outside and down the end of the garden approximately 35 feet (10 meters) to a 2 foot concrete house wall and window where there is a room 12 feet (4 meters) to a door, panel walls, and another 12 feet (4 meters) to the router. During the day, depending on weather conditions, my signal will read very strong to low, but never gone. It is my understanding however that this router can not penetrate all types of barriers like lead or metal walls. So unless you have this router is inside a vault, you are going to pretty much not just be serving your internet all around your home, but to other homes also and probably places where you didn't think you would be serving at all. Anyway, the notebook works with internet in my garden and that is really why I wanted this. The fact I can play Civilization IV outside is amazing. Update the Wireless NIC if you want to use WPA2 wireless security. The online capabilities are amazing. Personally I wouldn't buy a notebook without ordering some form of a lightweight bag to carry it around in. Make sure the specs of the bag and greater than this notebook and not the same as, or less than, because it tends to be a tight squeeze. I have seen this Acer in a show room with other top named notebooks and they all have the same screen quality. You simply won't find anything out there which has a different display quality. The screen is a little stiff when opening, but that just makes it more robust. Make sure to hold the base down when opening and never open with the hand on the side of the screen. Use the middle of the screen slightly to the left or right of the web cam. Like I said, all this stuff is being built by the same people. The only serious drawback are the speakers. To be honest they are no better than the default internal speak of a common intel mobo which makes it poor. Voice recorded audio is poor also. However the headphones with microphone jack is where it is at. Once last thing... the heat vent, is located near the top right hand side so if you use an external USB right-hand mouse you can not locate it right up against the laptop as the vent air can cause a little heat discomfort on your hand. You must create some space between the mouse and the notebook. The bottom line is that there is absolutely no need to pay through-the-roof prices unless you just want the brand name. It doesn't guarantee you anything any more other than a look. Acer looks great, runs great and is great. AMAZING!

Research at Acer has always concentrated on the development of advanced mobile solutions designed to provide unbeatable performance and reliability. The Aspire 5670 sets new standards for mobile multimedia entertainment combining Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology, a stunning widescreen CrystalBrite display and integrated 1.3 megapixel video camera for a captivating home entertainment experience.
Amazon.com Product Description
A great choice for mobile professionals who like to play as hard as they work, the Acer Aspire 5672 (AS5672WLMi-XPH) is a multimedia powerhouse with S-Video output and Firewire connectivity for camcorders and digital audio players. It also enables easy VVoIP (voice and video over IP) via the integrated 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera with 225-degree rotation. The AS5672 has a bright 15.4-inch LCD that takes advantage of Acer's CrystalBrite set of display technologies, which provide great color saturation and excellent contrast in all environments. In addition to an integrated 54g wireless LAN, this notebook also includes Acer's SignalUp technology--a super-efficient antenna is built into the case, creating an omni-directional sphere that extends signal range and quality.
It's powered by Intel's new, groundbreaking processor--the powerful Core Duo T2300--which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance and a more efficient power consumption. The dual execution core T2300 has a 1.66 GHz processor speed and 2 MB L2 cache. Other hardware features include a 100 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, multi-format DVD burner (with DVD-RAM capability), tri-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g), Bluetooth wireless connectivity, gigabit Ethernet LAN, 5-in-1 memory card reader, and Microsoft Windows XP Home edition operating system.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive (a fast 5400 RPM) is above average in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.
- Processor: The Intel Core Duo T2300 processor is built with the Mobile Intel 945GM Express chipset, and it has a 1.67 GHz processor speed, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3D and 2D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.
- Memory: The AS5672 comes with 1 GB RAM, with the ability to be upgraded to 2 GB. You'll enjoy quick, nimble response throughout your applications and fast processing in demanding business productivity applications. It's also a plus for immersive 3D gaming and video viewing and editing.
- CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 3x DVD-RAM, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM, 24x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 24x CD-ROM speeds.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook features an 88-key keyboard with inverted T cursor layout, embedded numeric keypad, hotkey controls, international language support, and 2.5mm minimum key travel. The touchpad has a four-way scroll button.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 15.4-inch WXGA LCD has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching movies in their intended 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Video is powered by the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card, which features 128 MB of dedicated video memory for an impressively high screen resolution. Accelerate through tasks and entertainment with a native x16-lane PCI Express bus interface, pumping data through 4 pixel shader pipelines and 2 vertex processors. Interact with realistic 3D characters and scenes with full DirectX 9 Shader Model 3.0 support. And ATI's PowerPlay 6.0 technology helps to maximize battery life for an extended on-the-move visual experience.
Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments. It's great for sophisticated professional applications, photo manipulation, and immersive 3D games.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The AS5672 features an integrated PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless LAN that's compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). It also offers Acer's SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency. With the Bluetooth wireless connectivity, you can synchronize and transfer files between the PC and peripherals such as cell phones and PDAs. You get a very good offering of multimedia connectivity options, including:
- 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (one Type II card, 32-bit PC CardBus architecture)
- Stereo headphones/speakers/line-out with SPDIF support
- Microphone/line-in

- 5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, XD Picture Card)
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. Dimensions and Weight

Customer Reviews:
Excellent value for money and performance!.......2006-08-13
Good:
- Crystal clear wide screen display that has a fast response time so there are no ghosting effects with DVD playback.
- 2Gb of fast ram. You normally have to fork out truckloads of dollars for this!
- Windows XP Pro and Vista ready. XP Pro is the best OS at present.
- Can run 3D games at respectable levels of detail. Great if you are stuck in a hotel and need to play on something.
- Loads of USB ports. Connect your printer, camera and other gadgets with ease.
- Amazing sound quality.
- Microphone and Headphone ports at the front.
- Warehouse scale hard disk at 120Gb of space!
- Burn DVDs and CDs easily.
- Very clear, high resolution webcam.
- It looks smart.
- Battery time is 3+ hours.
- Has all the other essential ports such as Network, Firewire etc.
Bad:
- Gets a little warm during use. You can feel gentle wafts of heat rising through the keys to your fingertips. This hasn't been warm enough to upset me or my wife.
- A bit heavy, but it's so packed full of technology, it's a miracle that it doesn't feel like lead!
- You need a lot of patience when you start it the first time. Have a blank DVD ready to create the emergency repair disk. The system sets itself up automatically the first time you run. Leave a good half an hour at least for this.
- Not much documentation. I haven't needed it, but some people may feel a little uncomfortable without a complete instruction manual. You can download all the details you need from Acer's website anyway.
Overall:
Buy it! Acer have thought very hard about what a good all-rounder notebook user needs. The bad points are minor in comparison to the good points. When you run it for the first time, it feels like you are using a workstation and not a notebook!
Beautiful Machine, if you don't download windows updates........2006-08-11
I had to return two of these machines. After downloading windows updates, the machine would loop through the rebooting process, asking whether you wanted to start in Safe Mode...Normal Mode. No matter what choice I used, the computer would start booting, blue-screen for about a quarter-second and then reboot. I was really sad to have to return this machine, as there's nothing else I've seen that has the size and specs as this one does for under $2,500.
If you buy this machine, you might want to stay away from Windows upddates.
Well Done.......2006-08-11
A job well done by acer! Cons: alittle warm on the lap and wrists if used for any prolonged period of time, and glare could be toned down alittle Pros: Everything else, dual core tech. is superman style faster then a bullet, with the 2 GB RAM and 120 Hard Drive, it's bigger then some destops in that respect, the camera is a nice little extra too!
quite happy.......2006-07-29
Sorry, I can't get technical here but I did purchase this notebook from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and I think it's a very good buy. I knew enough to realize that the specs/dollar ratio was very high. The unit is very sturdy and I find the keyboard has a great feel of quality and placement. The left front of the base does get warm and if it stays on for awhile, (hours), the touch pad gets quite warm. But I purchased a wireless mouse and for me it's a perfect setup. There's another very good review of this machine at the page for the $999.00 priced Acer Aspire. It's the review by Capt. Kirk that put me over the edge in deciding to buy this one. Also, I chose free shipping, (duh), and Amazon's predicted receiving date was about a week out. I got it in 3 day's. I'm using it, glad to have it and it works fine! No buyers remorse. Recommended.
Near-perfect balance of value and power........2006-07-27
I picked up one of these as a gift for my Wife, who occasionally needs to go online but can't always work at a desktop. When I saw the specs on this laptop, I had to pull the trigger and get one. It's been the best purchase I've made in quite awhile.
The laptop has 2Gb of RAM, which is exceptional for a laptop at this price. Moreover, the 120Gb SATA drive is also an exceptional, almost impossible feature of a laptop today. Finally, the dual-core CPU is the final surprise for this price. Combined, these elements mean I have a machine that's far faster and more capable than all of my desktops and almost as capable as my home server (I'm a systems architect, so I know servers).
It's also in possession of some other features that make it a superior value: a wide-screen super bright LCD at 15.4", a dedicated ATI graphics chip with 256Mb of memory, a dual-layer DVD burner, an SD/MMC/MS card reader, 4 2.0 USB ports, a Firewire port, and two killer radios.
Killer radios? Sure. 802.11 a/b/g Wifi, and Bluetooth 2.0. The range on the wireless connection is very good, and although I haven't tested Bluetooth fully, it syncs easily with my Nokia 3650.
The bundle of software is minimal but functional. There's no MS Office here, and XP Home is your OS. For this price, I wouldn't dare complain. Its intended use is the couch, so recharging it is not an issue and the wide screen makes browsing a treat. The keyboard layout is rational if unconventional, and your right thumb can page up/ down rather easily, making the lack of a scroll wheel somewhat easier to take.
Should you buy it? I'd recommend it, although I might say that waiting for a sale is a smart idea. Still, this is near-perfect and only the fact that it isn't a Tablet PC keeps it from being my dream machine.

Product Description
Paragon 2-user, 42-port (UMT242) and 4-user, 42-port (UMT442) Matrix Switching Units join the highly acclaimed 8-user, 32-port (UMT8) model to provide Category 5 UTP cable-based, stand-alone solutions for applications requiring fewer than 8 users, and cost-effective scalability for high-density server racks. The two Matrix Switching Units offer the highest port-density currently available in a Cat5-based KVM switch, providing access to 42 devices in a 1U form factor. In addition to representing a stand-alone Cat5 solution for environments with 2 to 4 users, this high port-density also greatly increases the scalability of Paragon enterprise solutions. For example, a configuration giving eight users access to 512 servers using the existing 8-user, 32-port Paragon switch requires the maximum 3-tier configuration. However, by deploying a multi-base, two-tier configuration, adding just four UMT242 units as a base tier, eight users can access an additional 160 servers with a relatively modest incremental investment, and still have the ability to add a third tier to access up to 1, 960 servers if growth dictates.
