Product Description
The iMac G5 offers all-in-one elegance that's delightfully affordable. Take in the view on a widescreen flat-panel display. Proudly display the iMac G5 in any room of your house - it's lightweight enough to move from your kitchen to the den or bedroom. The 20-inch model shows more than two full pages of text and graphics side by side while the dazzling 17-inch provides the same screen area as a 19-inch CRT - with twice the brightness, sharpness and contrast. Hidden behind the display, you'll find the entire computer: central processing unit (CPU), logic board, hard drive, speakers, microphone and power supply. But you'll actually find that the computer just fades away as you organize music and photos, or compose tunes and edit movies with the iLife suite of integrated applications for your digital lifestyle. What's more, since the iMac is wireless-ready, you don't even have to place it near a phone jack. Simply pop in an AirPort Extreme Card (optional), hook up an AirPort Express to your DSL connection or cable modem, and you can surf the Internet wirelessly, listen to tunes in another room and print remotely.y.int wirelessly.
Customer Reviews:
Great looking machine pity about modem.......2006-01-11
This machine looks really good .However the problem is that there is no built in modem so if you dont have a external modem to connect to or broadband then its useless in connecting to Internet .This is not the same as my Powerbook G4 which has an internal modem.Tried to connect an old compaq modem up to the G5 and absolutely nothing happened , however this external modem works fine with G4.Have ordered a apple usb modem weeks ago - but no sign of it so far, guess they are having to manufacture a lot of them.My wife furious for inflicting her with somethimg which I wanted due to my liking of the powerbook .
Love my mac... but macs aren't for everyone.......2005-07-21
I love macintosh! I am a graphic artist, and purchased my first mac 6 years ago. (A cute blue one!) But it is pretty much a requirement in my field. But for those looking for everyday use, this machine has worked seamlessly with my digital camcorder, and burns CD's and DVD's quickly and easily. The iDVD and iMovie software can make anyone a great director! I think this software is unparalled for the novice! Rare viruses, great support, and who doesn't want an ipod? Ipods work so seamlessly with this machine, along with iTunes.
I work from home, and spend approx. 8 hrs a day on this machine. It is a workhorse, and aside from a few crashes here and there, (usually in industry software) it runs perfectly. I also uploaded and edited all of my wedding videos, and created a wonderful DVD.
There are a lot of things to consider when purchasing a mac...
If there are "gamers" in your family, this is NOT the machine for you. Gaming software is very limited compared to buying a Windows machine.
Macs are "virtually" virus free. I have NEVER had a virus on my machine (knock on wood!)
Compatability... (although mac compatibility has come leaps and bounds, it still leaves a little to be desired) my sister just started college, wanting a mac, she purchased an ibook. She took her laptop to school, and had endless problems with the school server, and the internet connection. The school offered specific email software which was not mac compatibile. When I purchased my first mac, I had similar problems with my ISP (internet service provider) Although this was years ago, I was told at that time they had NO support for macintosh computers. It was definately an ordeal to get my cable modem connected and running. (I guess they get computers internet ready by inserting a disc, which does all the necessary changes on the computer. Obviously wouldn't be compatible with mac.) You might want to call your ISP and see what they have to say about macs.
I also have had a few problems with certain things online. The mac comes equipped with Safari as an internet browser. (you can get Internet Explorer, but it runs very slow on mac) Online bill paying can be a little tricky too, and I have run into problems with that. The phone company gives me the error that they don't support online payment for mac. But download Firefox, a free web browser, and it will solve all of your problems.
For those of you napster users, according to their website, "do not support macintosh users at this time..."
The price is much higher than purchasing something from Dell, but I think you can get much more longevity from your mac.
My suggestions..
UPGRADE your machine before you purchase. When you start burning DVD's and surfing the internet, the extra memory and HD space will come in handy. A sixty minute video you try to burn can take up to 20GB of space! And make sure you get the Superdrive, or you can't burn DVD's.
Purchase the Applecare protection plan! I purchased the plan with this machine, having never had to use it. But with all appliances there are always a few lemons, and this can save you hours of headaches. (or if you have a really stupid question, you can get great support anyways!)
To all those previous reviews who said the machine "constantly crashed." From my years of experience and college courses, there is one thing my professors said, and I have discovered. When the "system crashes, most often it is user related."
Depending on what your needs are, macs may not be right for you. But if you do decide to purchase this machine, you will be delighted with it!
Best desktop computer available today.......2005-04-01
I've got a Pentium IV 3.0 GHz box running Windows XP Pro, and a Pentium IV 2.4 GHz laptop running SuSE Linux Pro 9.2. Until I got my 20" iMac G5, I used the Windows computer about 10% of the time and the Linux laptop the other 90% of the time throughout my day.
Since I got my iMac the last week of February, I've barely even turned the other computers on.
The problem is, I can't exactly point out anything specific because Mac OS X is all about the entire experience. "Everything just works" is dead on. It's a joy to use, it looks beautiful, it's fast (mine has 512MB RAM; I'm upgrading to 1GB), and OS X is easy to use.
I can honestly say that, in my opinion, Macs are the best desktop computer available on the market today. I would say SuSE Pro is second.
A wonderful computer but one I would hesitate to buy now........2005-03-30
My original review follows this paragraph I still love this machine, its ease of use, backup and beauty. However, Apple just announced that it is moving from the Power PC chip produced by IBM that powers this machine to Intel chips that power the rest of the PC world. They maintain that all future programs will work on both the Power PC chip and the Intel chip. That is easy to say, but since the architecture of the two chips are entirely different, making the claim reality may prove to be difficult. Certainly if one system is sacrificed it will be the one Apple will no longer be making in either 2006 or 2007 at the latest. I am concerned that Apples claim may be similar to 'the check is in the mail and I will still respect you in the morning.' You can this machine with the knowledge that it is a wonderful desktop system...but. I would hesitate to buy now even at the reduced price.
I purchased my 20" iMac with the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. After a small glitch at startup that Apple Tech support was able to correct over the phone, I was up and running. I was able to easily import the files from my PC since I had backed them up to CD's. My HP printer and Dymo LabelWriter connected easily. The cables hook up to the back of the computer, snaking through a hole cleverly placed in the stand. Result - no wires showing and no wires on my desk. Much improved appearance - this makes the wife happy, and a totally free desktop for projects that are not computer based. That makes me happy.
Others have covered well the beauty and ease of use of this machine. I can only add that the display is not to be believed until you see it. Do upgrade your ram. I put in a gigabyte. It can make a serious difference in performance. Do not believe you are immune to viruses because you have a mac. Go to .mac and buy your virex protection and get auto upgrade. Viruses may be rare for the mac, but they are not unknown. Do not, like one of my friends who bought a mac mini, try to load your PC programs on the mac. They will not work. Do play with your mac and its software. Iphtoto is an amazingly versatile program. If you have a digital camera, learn and use it. It will be rewarding. Do join your local mac users group. There you will find a group of people that will help you through any problems you may encounter. Plus, mac users as a group are used to thinking outside the box and you may well meet some interesting and fun people.
Excellent Desktop System.......2005-02-28
The iMac G5 was my "switch" from Windows-based PCs. The birth of our first child gave us more pictures and hours of video then I knew what to do with, and I was growing tired shopping for digital media software that would do what I wanted. iLife was always highly reviewed, so I made the leap. I have not been disappointed.
The 20" iMac G5 has a bright and crisp monitor, which is one of the most important things in a machine. The most important features of a machine is the software you can run on it. iLife is one-stop shopping for digital media. I've used iPhoto and iDVD to made DVD slideshow movies, iMovie and iDVD to easily convert MiniDV to a DVD disc that contains impressive themes that make the creation of impressive content pretty easy. For complex movie editing I would suggest Final Cut Express, but iMovie's feature-set is pretty impressive. And OS X is a generation beyond what Windows XP is. I purchased my iMac with internal bluetooth and wireless bluetooth mouse and keyboard, so the only wires I ever use are the firewire cables for iPod and MiniDV camcorder, as well as the firewire compact flash media reader. When I'm not using those, my desk is clean and uncluttered!
I grew up with Windows 3.1 and 95, but college and my career has had me working in unix exclusively. If you know anything about unix you'll feel right at home in Terminal (bash shell), and the X11 server that comes with Panther will let you seamlessly integrate yourself into a unix/linux environment. OS X's graphical interface is a joy to use, and it's been as stable as any machine (windows, linux, unix) I've used.
I initially ran with 512 MB of memory, and it was fast enough for iPhoto and iMovie. Once I got Final Cut Express I added an additional 1 GB of memory, and thus far that's been overkill by about 512 MB (based on system information).
If you want a machine that'll last several years, will make you incredibly productive with digital media and let you save money on by not buying spyware and virus software, the beautiful iMac G5 is the right machine for you.

Great Radio.......2004-04-07
We have purchased Motorola, Kenwood and now like the Midland 75-440 best. Best channel selection, call feature.
Not simple for users.......2002-03-31
This radio sounds good at first, but you will need to get an FCC license to operate this radio legally. Most people in the "FRS" market really don't need the extra power, cost and hassle of GMRS. So I'd label this radio "don't try this at home", unless you are a serious GMRS user.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome Portable Media Hard Drive!.......2005-07-23
Strengths: Plays Divx (3-5), Xvid, ISO, VOB, MPEG1 & MPEG2 as well as music and pictures. Cool interface.
Weaknesses: Wish the remote was a bit more responsive.
Needed: Portable battery so that you can hookup Silverscreen to a portable DVD Player or Portable Media Player.
I've had my Silverscreen 80GB for a month now and I absolutely love it. I have a rather long collection of movies (including homemade videos & movies) in DVDs, SVCD, VCD, Xvid, and Divx formats. Up until now, I've had to hook up my laptop to my TV to view the videos. I have thought about buying a PMP such as Archos AV420 but the thought of having to convert some of my videos into a format recognized by Archos did not appeal too much to me (i.e. too time consuming).
With the Silverscreen, I am been able to view 90% of all my video files WITHOUT any conversion needed! The Silverscreen had no trouble recognizing the files. The other 10% needed a simple conversion with "VirtualDub" and had those video files up and running in no time.
There are several cool features of the Silverscreen that makes this a winner. Using DVD ripping software (such as "DVD Shrink 3.2" & "DVD Decrypter"), you can create ISO files of DVD movies which the Silverscreen plays back on your TV (with the original DVD menus and features intact).
Furthermore, using ISOBuster (free download), you can convert SVCD & VCD .bin files into MPEGs which Silverscreen plays back. That means no more burning SVCD or VCD CDs!
The interface on the TV looks fancy and is easy to follow. Upgrading the firmware to the latest version was a no brainer as well.
I love and hate the remote. First the good news: it has a lot of useful buttons. For example, it has a search feature which will take you to the exact spot within a movie. I also like the Zoom feature. With Zoom, I can turn Widescreen movies into Full Screen movies WITHOUT a video degradation. I love that feature the most! The only drawback with Zoom is that when the movie is paused, the play button won't work until Zoom is off and I have to repeat the procedure again. I believe a simple firmware upgrade could fix that problem.
The drawback of the remote is that it is one of those touchpad remotes. It seems unresponsive at times and sluggish. If it wasn't for this, I would have given the Silverscreen a 5 out of 5 stars.
Hooking up the Silverscreen to a TV or portable DVD player is simple. I love that fact that it is portable and makes no noise. Copying files to the portable hard drive is fast too. For example, a 700 MB video file normally takes 30 seconds to copy unto the Silverscreen. It is definitely faster than two other portable USB hard drives that I own.
The beauty of having the Silverscreen is that you can take it anywhere (i.e. out of town, friend's house, on vacation) and view your movies. It also does not need any boot time since it instantly turns on (in about 3 seconds or less).
What would be extremely useful is if LACIE or Unibrain built a portable battery that you can hook up to Silverscreen. In this manner, you could watch videos on the plane by hooking it up to a portable DVD player or PMP that has video & audio inputs.
It would also be nice if the next generation of Silverscreen could allow you to record videos off your TV at 640x480. Some might want a LCD screen but this would bring up the price of Silverscreen. Indeed, you're not going to find an 80GB PMP for $250 -- let alone a 20GB version!
In short, if you need an easy and portable way to play Divx, Xvid, SVCD, VCD, and DVD videos on a TV or video projector then look no further than Silverscreen! You'll love it!
4.5 out 5 stars!

You can manually set the flash to fill, off, infinity, and a special night mode. Shutter speed ranges from 1/4 to 1/360 seconds to accommodate a various subjects and lighting situations.
The easy-to-read LCD panel displays information about your current shooting mode. It also has a self-timer which is useful for taking group photos or self-portraits. The T80 is compatible with film with a speed rating of 50 to 1600. Weighing a little over 7 ounces and taking only one KL123LA battery, the T80 is a solid, portable camera.

Customer Reviews:
I don't know what I was thinking..........2005-10-23
Bad software, hard to understand manual and just too difficult for the child I bought it for. We did much better spending more money and getting a "real" digital camera!
Drivers for XP and 2000.......2005-05-08
If you need Windows XP or 2000 drivers, they are available from (...) as well as help with installation, instructions and other helpful hints. Great starter camera and fun for kids.
WHAT do you EXPECT??.......2004-04-25
I bought one of these when they first came out almost two years ago - bought it strictly for auction sale pics. I have dropped it several times, it still works. I added an extra 28 MB memory card, and it made a world of difference in the capacity, BUT it totally messed up the LCD screen - my USB connection is loose, so I have to jiggle it sometimes to get it to work - BUT!!! I have been less than nice to it, and it has been great to me for what I paid for it. Close ups are non exisitant (meaning don't even try) flash pictures are always washed out. I believe there is no longer a web site for the company - check that out too. You DO NOT need ANY extra software to download or alter the pics - Jam Cam includes that with the Cam. I WOULD recommend this (with a 28 MB memory card) for a younger person just learning photography, or someone like me that 2 years ago could not afford anything else!!!
