Dual G5 Two Thumbs Up.......2005-11-10
I have used ever single personal computer that has ever came up till today from Sinclairs, Amstrads, Commodores to todays PC's. Personal computers have never been so diverse and simple at the same time. The beauty of this machine not only comes from its processing power but also comes from the operating system. It's a unique system, a combination of software and hardware, extremely powerful, not to mention the every bit of cool design in it. I am a power user, to be more secific 3D animator and i am working on Maya. If i'd say that MAC has changed my life, that would pretty much sum it up.
Even the World's Best Computer is Not Perfect..........2005-10-30
Okay. We all know that Apple / Microsoft, Mac OS X / Windows, have had a war going on ever since they were invented. I have been reading reviews for a long time, and I have been a Mac and PC use for a long time. For those of you who read this reviews to gather infromation o whether or not to by a product, then I am here to help you with something.
First off, I would like to thank the guy at the bottom of these reviews, (the one from Sydney) for pointing out things that are in fact true. OS X is based on Unix, and the OS X techlonogy was not completely orginal, it came from a comany before Steve Jobs came back to Apple in the Late-90s. But all of that is a huge History of the Mac archive. If you really want to find out what the whole tale of Mac OS X is, then I suggest you start reading some of the books on Steve Jobs.
Now onto the Mac itself. The Mac is a simple design, it is made to just work, which it does when taken care of. I have used every single Mac on today's current line-up. (iMac G5, iBook G4, Powerbook G4, Mac mini, PowermAc G5, and iPod models from 3rd Generation all the way up to the current iPod nano.) They all run pretty much the same, the ones that preform less are simply not as advanced as those who preform better.
I currently own a Late-2001 iBook G3, which is entirley obsolete copared to todays Apple machines, and it is still working exactly like it did the day that i took it out of the box. But keep in mind, great care has been put into this machine to keep it running at optimal preformance. I will not lie, not all computers are perfect. My iBook freezes, has internal system problems, it has good days and bad days; just like any other computer out there. Macs are not perfect, they have their flaws, but you will find that they are more concrete than your regular PC.
Now, being a long time Mac user, I know how to repair many problems that come up, and they are small problems, things that happen all the time in any computer. But for some, and there is not a problem with this, they simply do not know how to fix them; therefore, they say that Macs are a piece of crap and should be destroyed. It all comes with knowledge. If you know how to solve a problem, then you solve it. It is when you don't know, that you give up and call whatever you are angry at a piece of crap.
Still, I cannot choose your purchase for you, I can only tell you what the turh is. If you take the time to learn about your Mac, if you come to know how to repair problems that might occur, and if you treat it with care on both the hardware and software, you will find that the Mac will last until it becomes obselete from the technology around it.
LOL @ Apple-bashers.......2005-10-21
Was dupped for 10+ years by PC (PieceCrap) before I saw the light with Apple. Could never really understand until I drove one for a while. Will never look back now. Apple is the real deal. Listening to the Apple-bashers hear is like listening to a bunch of people who drive Ford Pintos complain about Porsches. LOL
I think the Negative reviews are liars and ignorant people.......2005-10-21
I don't need a long winded rebuttal. The guy who said he called for service on a new machine, and was told to take it to COMPUSA has never gotten service from Apple. Apple will cheerfully send you a box to your home next day air. They will also repair your machine in one day, and next day air it back to you. All free. They are the most reliable machines in the world as proven by the non-profit consumers union, and the rabidly pc positive PC-World consumer survey. Anybody that says that Macs crash ever, or that they ever had to reboot it, has not used a Mac since OS X came out. I do not care what real bench marks you used. I have never seen a PC that can download video from a HI-8 digital video camera withour dropping frames. My old 800 mhz Ibook laptop could do it with no problem. The special made PCs could render faster than my laptop, but I can wait for perfect rendering after a perfect download. The special PCs that cost nearly ten times as much as my old dinky laptop just could never produce acceptable home video. My dual G5 now renders slightly faster in the real world than my friend's $10,000.00 intel machine. He looks like a puppy told to go to his room for peeing on the floor. I really do not care if it is a little faster or a lot slower, just as long as it is perfect.
As far as business, and productivity software all machines are fast enough PC and Mac.
PCs alway have some little thing break that worked the day before. The windows task bar has always been buggy. Try setting it to auto-hide. You can't use it! PCs are a constant hassle. They are for professionals only. Because you have to be a professional to keep them working. I know, I am a Microsoft Certified System Engineer, and spend my day job hours making Windows Networks, desktops and servers work. I see no sign of a PC that can run an hour without some kind of little problem, and PC users have just come to expect it, and do not even try to make them work, unless the problem is so severe that they cannot possbibly do thier job.
I have never had anything stop working for no reason on Mac. Yes I have had hardware problems on Macs, twice. I got them fixed for free and within three days. My wife runs a 1998 250MHz blueberry ibook. My son runs a 500MHZ 2000 dual USB ibook, and I run a new 2005 1.4GHZ ibook and a 2.5GHZ desktop. I do not pay for antivirus, or antispyware. I also own a 1.4GHZ Intel server that I built myself that is unplugged, unloved, and sitting in a closet. I used to use it as a shared hard-drive for my whole family, but it was alway causing problems.
An amazing machine..........2005-10-17
I have been using Macintosh computers since the SE30 we had in college and I have watched Apple put out better and better machines and this G5 is their most amazing machine yet. It was fast out of the box, but after upgrading to 8gb of RAM this machine screams. You can zip through huge Photoshop files, high definition video, and everyday computing with ease. Regardless of what industry you work in, your work (and play) will benefit from this computer and with Amazon's $200 rebate, you can't find a better price.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome product!.......2004-09-12
I bought this triple interface external hard drive mostly so I can have enough space for my iTunes music library in Apple Lossless format. I saw the older models at the Apple Store and I loved how they looked and the build quality was noticeably better than the external drives from other brands. The blue LED is also a very nice touch.
The triple interface makes it easy to use this drive with any Macs, if you have a Mac with FW800, transfer rate should be blazing fast. I also use it with my work laptop running XP and Gentoo GNU/Linux, no problem using it from all the different OSes.
The drive runs pretty quiet, not sure why others had complained about the noise level. The fan on my PC laptop is much noisier than the LaCie drive.
I highly recommend the LaCie d2 triple interface hard drives to anyone looking for a ton of additional storage for data. It probably wouldn't be wise to install programs on the drive as the transfer rate is still not quite as fast as native IDE, SCSI, SATA, and what not. But it's fast enough for high-quality streaming video, and definitely more than sufficient for music files like AAC, Ogg, and MP3. It is also excellent to use for backing up important data, but note that it only contains a single drive inside and it does not have any sort of redundency.

- Dual 5.25-inch woofers and a pivoting 1-inch soft-dome tweeter
- Compatible with amplifiers producing 5 to 120 watts per channel (8 ohms nominal); wide 50 to 22,000 Hz frequency response
- Paintable white finish; user-installable using common tools (including a stud finder and a utility knife or drywall saw)
- Measures about 15 x 6.8 x 4 inches (W x H x D) when used as a center speaker
ASIN: B00009W5FZ |
Amazon.com Product Description
Go boxless, go clean: NXG Technology's stately NX-520CLR in-wall speaker (sold individually) gives you the opportunity to expand your current listening to include a home-theater ready center-channel speaker without even needing a space to rest atop your TV--ideal for use with "roofless" flat-panel LCD or plasma sets. You don't have to use it for home theater, of course; just mount the NX-520CLR vertically (and buy two) for stereo sound. Conversely, you can pick up 5, 6, or 7 speakers, depending on how far you want to take both your home theater surround listening and your unobtrusive, flat-panel speaker system.
However you use it, rest easy knowing the speaker is magnetically shielded to avoid any possible image distortion when placed in close proximity to a TV or monitor.
The NX-520CLR is outfitted with dual 5.25-inch polypropylene cone woofers with durable rubber surrounds. It also sports a pivoting, 1-inch, liquid-cooled, soft-dome tweeter that swivels to let you focus its sound on your listening area.
With in-wall speakers, the wall and the space behind it actually serve as a speaker cabinet, resonating with lower (bass) frequencies that would be lost without the focusing a cabinet provides. As such, the speaker depth is under 5 inches, yet it still delivers an impressively wide 50 to 22,000 Hz frequency response. Mounted flush to the wall, it occupies absolutely no shelf space. This discreet, compact format is perfect for applications where traditional speakers would be impractical or impossible--or simply unsightly.
The speaker's sensitivity is rated at 90 dB (1 watt @ 1 meter), which means it's easily driven; NXG recommends use with integrated amplifiers or surround receivers up to 120 watts (maximum) per channel.
NXG recommends using a minimum of 16-gauge speaker wire for all installations, keeping in mind that gauge decreases as the wire thickens (i.e. 14-gauge wire is thicker than 16-gauge wire). You may paint the perforated speaker grille, as well as the frame, to match any room.
What's in the Box
One speaker with a removable grille, a mounting template, a masking template, a packet of acoustic damping material, and a user's manual with warranty information.
Note: Tools required for installation include a drill and bits, a stud finder, a utility knife or drywall saw, a level, wire cutter/strippers, and speaker wire or speaker cable (all sold separately). When the speaker is mounted horizontally as a center-channel speaker, the stud cavity may need to be modified to accommodate the speaker.

NEVER UPDATED, BARELY SUPPORTED.......2007-07-25
This product was released in January of 2005 with support for a very small number of keyboards and mice. In the 2-1/2 years since, it has never been updated for any new input devices!
Amazon would not allow me to publish a link in my review for the pdf doc that lists the supported devices, so I have loaded a screen shot above.
It especially will not support USB keyboards/mice that have expanded SW-based capabilities.

ASIN: B000056SQY |
Product Description
The Data Express DE100 is a steel-constructed removable drive enclosure for mounting 3.5 inch form factor, half-height (1.6 inch) or low-profile (1 inch) SCSI or IDE drives into 5.25 inch half-height peripheral bays. All Data Express models feature a front-accessible key lock which secures the carrier within the receiving frame. A variety of DE100 model numbers are available which support Ultra ATA/100 (including ATA/133) and versions that support SCSI Wide Ultra160 applications. Some DE100 carrier models support 80-pin single-connect (SCA) SCSI drive types. Options are available for an enhanced, bus-isolating "hot swap" capability (SCSI models) and/or a solenoid drive lock. Data Express is a product line of drive carriers and receiving frames which are compatible with SCSI or AT/IDE drive types and system interfaces. These modular subsystems house 3.5 inch hard disk or 3.5 inch front-loading tape, floppy, floptical, or optical devices for mounting into any 5.25 inch full or half-height storage drive bay.In operation, the Data Express SCSI receiving frame and certain IDE receiving frames, define the specific address of the drive. The Data Express drive-based carrier does not identify the drive address nor does it provide termination, the drive assumes the identity and characteristics of the receiving frame. Please contact StorCase for additional information. Data Express modules are ruggedly constructed and include a drive carrier lock and a drive activity indicator as standard features. Some family models also provide an ID select indicator and pre-integrated solenoid drive lock and/or fan. Options for an enhanced, bus-isolating capability are also available. Kingston Technology offers the carrier unit for Data Express - steel-constructed removable drive enclosure.

Customer Reviews:
Best quality case I ever bought........2006-11-15
I was initially hesitant in buying this $200+ case but it came highly recommended from a tech at Best Buy. I eventually bought it (Black) last month and have to say that I'm very happy it did. This box is great. It has a lot of space for good air circulation. The brushed aluminum makes this box look great. The three fans are placed in good locations and are very quiet. Even with another three (CPU, PSU and video card) fans--the noise is low.
You can tell the builders put some thought into the box. It's lighter than the traditional metal cases and provides very good cooling for the motherboard, hard drives and video card. I installed an Intel D975XBX/Core 2 Duo 6600, 2 WD Raptor HDs, ATI X1900XTX, LiteOn DVD/RW, Corsair 620W PSU, Lian Li TR-3 and card reader. You have a lot of space to work with and don't have to worry about sharp edges. I know the previous reviewer was concerned with the size, but you can't reduce the size and still expect to have good air circulation with all those wires and components stuffed in a small area and generating a lot of heat.
The negative side? Yes--this case is a little on the the expensive side. You can go cheap if you don't care about quality. This box does support the next generation motherboards--EATX (Extended ATX)configurations. Another slight issue was with the location of the external/front USB-IEEE 1394a-Audio jacks. They are located in the lower front portion of the case. It makes it pain to access if you put the case on the floor or under a desk. I would have put them at the top for easier access to the USB ports. Second, the color scheme they used to identify the wiring and connectors for the USB-Firewire-Audio jacks is poor. It can be difficult to connect the appropriate wires directly to the motherboard. The instructions that come with this case don't really help you in that area. I could only get my USB connectors to work--not the audio/mic so I finally gave up. Luckily, my Intel board was well equipped and came with its own Front Panel USB2.0/IEEE 1394a/audio adapter with fast connections to the board. I used one of my slots and a Lian Li 5.25in to 3.5in Bay Converting Kit and I was able to install it near the top of the case for easy access. My Corsair 620W PSU fit nicely on the bottom and has plenty of cool air circulation.
Overall, this is a nice case (minus a few minor gripes). I would probably purchase a second one if I had to. I would have given it 5-stars if the USB2.0/IEEE 1394a/audio adapter were pain to use/connect to the motherboard and the instructions (for the cabling) so poorly written. I hope to upload a couple of pictures very soon.
A case that your kids will want to inherit!.......2004-12-28
Short and sweet, this case is really nicely done. Quite roomy for a mid-tower, which is, oddly enough, my only complaint. The case is bordering on huge. Sure, it's nice to have SIX hard drive bays and FIVE accessory bays (CD-ROMs, etc.), but does anyone really need all that space in a mid-tower? If you're going with a liquid cooling system and want space for a radiator, etc.., then great, but otherwise, I wish the case was a bit smaller. Hence my 4 star rating. This is the smallest case that features the 3 zone cooling system, so if you want that, then deal with it I guess.
Anyway, great build quality, but it is a bit over-priced in my opinion. The materials are ~good~, but for $200+, they should be great. It's a shame when you have to overpay to get this kind of quality, but make no mistake, there's not a better case for the money out there right now. I'm justifying the expense by keeping in mind that this case is not disposable, but instead, will be used again and again.
Oh yeah, I got the Antec 480 neopower PS, which is pretty big, and it fits like a dream. Fact is, I've not seen a PS that wouldn't fit in this case.
Obviously the case is meant to mimic the Apple G5, which it does pretty well, but if you want to see an _excellent_ case, check out the G5's. Quality of workmanship to materials used, the G5 is head and shoulders above this one. But, of course, the G5 case is not available by itself. :-(
Anyway, the case is quite good and looks great sitting next to my G5. One of the nice touches that Lian-Li put on the case is a G5-like DVD/CD-Rom bay at the top. Instead of the door sliding down, it flips open, but it's a very nice touch regardless.
Pick this case up for your next project and you won't be dissapointed.
