I've waited this long to make sure the being new has worn off and there by giving a true picture of my long term experiences, and it simply WORKS. It's stable, predictable, and wakes and sleeps the way I expect it to. I shut it and come back in an hour or day and I open it and it's right back to work right a way. Try that with your Windows XP machine, it either freezes, crashs, or has to reboot. I flat enjoy my little jewel and I will ALWAYS use a Mac. Thanks Apple.

Excellent features in a compact Powerhouse.......2004-06-20

Ah, the Powerbook. For many years, Apple's version of what a laptop computer should be. Then they created "consumer level" ibooks and the Powerbook was elevated to a status of Pro machines (which it always was). There used to be only a couple models (remember Pismo?). Then the Titanium wonder that shocked the portable world. Now, Apple has 3 different sized Powerbooks with various models inbetween those sizes. The compact little gem is the subject here.

This is one of the finest Macs I have ever used. The weight is so light. The aluminum case is amazing. The slot load Superdrive which burns either CD's or DVD's is elegant compared to slide out trays that risk being damaged. The keyboard feels amazing. I could go on and on. Battery life I have gotten has ranged in the 4 hour range...excellent for a G4 equipped laptop. ALthough 256MB of RAM seems rather low, it surprisingly does well (Though I did add a 512mb module later, and watched performance grow). The power adapter itself has hooks to wrap the cord around (though admittedly, the old doughnut design was better looking). The 12" Powerbook is an excellent piece of hardware for those looking to tote a laptop. Two Thumbs Up!

Great machine, with caveats...........2004-04-12

Ditto all of the lauditory comments of my esteemed colleagues here on the review page, with a few additional comments. AppleCare is a must since the "logic board" of MACs are notorious for going down. The plan is $300 additonal cost for a three year policy, and you absolutely have to have it (you may buy it during the first year after purchase). The shipping protocol of the computer is excellent, with prepaid shipping containers sent to you, but Apple will charge you an additional $50 to save your hard drive data in the event that it must be replaced, a cost that should not obtain in my judgement given the expense of the add-on policy. The quality of the call-in help line varies (as they all do with PCs), but it's necessary, particularly for PC defectors like me. Lastly, if you have a problem with the enormous heat generated by the unit, get an 11" x 14" zip folder at Staples or Office Depot to place under the unit and also to carry/protect it. And you will carry this unit since this is a truly portable computer with a 3 to 4 hour battery time (my old SONY Vaio pooped out after 40 minutes - it's like a dinasaur next to the PowerBook). Plus, truly amazingly, you can edit video and burn DVDs that work simply great on a home DVD machine. Unbelieveable.

I have owned over 20 macs in my 12 years of Macintosh consulting and development.. This is the best Mac yet. I just sold my 15" TiBook to get this 12" Aluminum/1ghz/DVDR model. I can't put it down. The screen seemed small - until I used it. No problem there at all. I do a lot of digital photography and programming and the 12 inch PowerBook is THE MACHINE!

On the 12 inch G4 1 GHZ...is the heat that it generates really a problem? I get really annoyed with hot laptops...I'm a college student and I usually sit for hours on my desktop typing up papers and what not. I bought this as a gift for my kid. About the time he got used to it, the darned thing quit working. Short battery life - shortest camera life of any of the half dozen digitals I've purchased.

Although it performs OK in good light, the flash leaves something to be desired and the image quality was poor. The camera also uses batteries up very quickly, and mine stopped working after six months. the camera is very light, small and cheap looking because that is exactly what it is.

This is a great camera. It took great pictures, and is very compact and light-weight. Perfect for the traveler! I would recomend this camera to anyone who is interested in digital cameras.

Horrible camera!.......2005-03-28

There are 2 major problems with this camera:
1. The flash takes 3-4 minutes to warm up - and that is with brand new batteries. I had to replace batteries after 2 weeks. I got 5 pictures using those batteries. The older the batteries got, the longer it took for the flash to warm up. I have missed so many precious moments with my 6 year old because the flash would not warm up. I had to pay $26 at the mall to get pictures with the Easter bunny because the flash would not warm up. I called Mustek to find out the problem. They told me to buy Lithium batteries. So I did, not any better. They also said if this didn't work they would replace my camera - they would not give me my money back.
2. The zoom is too time consuming. Yet again, many missed precious moments fooling with the camera.

I have reverted back to using a disposable camera. At least it is reliable. I took some pictures with a friends Kodak 5.0 Easy Share and it was wonderful! I plan on purchasing one of these even though it costs 3x the price of the Mustek MDC 4000. On my friends camera, there was no waiting on the flash and there is a zoom button.

Good for a beginner.......2005-02-27

I bought this camera because I thought it would be good for a beginner like me. Overall, I've been very fond of this camera. It's easy to take pictures and convenient. You can take plenty of pictures (at least 100 something) using the low quality, at least 29 mid-quality pictures and several high-high quality pictures. And this is without any memory card or anything. You can take a 1 minute video with sound if you haven't really taken any pictures at all.

The only faults I have about this camera would be:
- It chews the batteries FAST (I recommend for you to get rechargable batteries)
- Putting the batteries in is confusing (don't know which side to put the batteries in) and closing the battery case is annoying sometimes

The last monitor you will ever need.......2004-03-27

I have had the 240T for over a year now. It is flat out the best monitor one the market today. 1920x1200 over DVI gives razor sharp text, the backlight is super bright and completely even and the colors are stunning. It has such a high pixel frequency that there is never any streaking when playing games. HDTV is awesome on it. Hook up a MyHD card with DVI and enjoy full resolution HDTV.
Everyone who comes over to my house cannot believe how nice it is (and most of my friends are computer geeks).
Trust me, 5 minutes after you pull the 240T out of the box you will forget how much you paid for it.

Awe inspiring PC and HDTV home theater combo.......2003-05-13

Until I put the Samsung 240T on my desk, I had thought I could never have a monitor that was too large. Now I'm not so sure. This monitor's physically wide enough that if I position it as close to me as I'd position other LCDs, I actually have to swivel my head to view the whole screen. And the pixel pitch (size of pixels) is wider than I was used to on my IBM A21P Thinkpad notebook (1600x1200 resolution on 15" diagonal) and on my SGI 1600SW (1600x1024 resolution on 17" diagonal). All in all, the monitor looks better viewed from a little further away than these monitors. The brightness, contrast and viewing angle on this monitor blows away anything else I've ever seen. The panel is absolutely uniformly lit and mine arrived with no dead or stuck pixels. The 1920x1200 resolution is large enough for the highest resolution HDTV (1080, which is 1920x1080 pixels).

Contrary to both Samsung's manual and Radeon's manuals, but in agreement with comments on countless mailing lists, both the Radeon 9000 and 9700 Pro models with 128MB memory were able to drive this monitor at full 1920x1200 resolution with DVI. The difference between DVI inputs and VGA inputs is night and day, with DVI being far superior in terms of sharpness. The S-video inputs are quite reasonable, and TV images look as good on this monitor as on other analog TVs, and provide a means to play VHS from from VCR without needing S-video inputs on my computer. But DVDs look much much better when played on the computer's DVD player through a decent progressive software decoder like WinDVD coupled with the graphics card's built-in rescaler. In fact, it's one of the best DVD images I've ever seen. To get the best sound, I take the computer's S/PDIF digital output directly into my AV receiver, thus bypassing my computer's sound card entirely.

All in all, this is a great monitor for home theater and one of only a handful of monitors that run 1920x1200 resolution.
