Aspire Digital's AD-8091 component DVD player/recorder is both affordable and versatile. The unit records to blank DVD+R or DVD+RW discs--both of which are compatible with most DVD players sold today--and it plays a range of optical media and produces pristine, progressive-scan video playback images for viewing on a high-definition or HD-ready TV or monitor (525p/NTSC, 625p/PAL, which may be incompatible with some displays).

Five recording modes (HQ, SP, LP, EP, and EP+) let you scale your disc space to maximize either recording time (up to 6 hours) or recording quality. DVD+RW discs require no finalizing--you can record, eject, and play them with minimal fuss, thanks to "background formatting." This feature, which lowers total burning time, is an advantage over the "dash" formats. Other DVD+RW advantages include on-disc content editing and multisession writing.

The recorder is ideal for time shifting your TV viewing or for archiving footage from your library of camcorder and/or VHS tapes. I was fortunate to get this product on sale and am very satisfied with it.
It includes the option to record and play DVDs in PAL format (used in
Europe) and it is great. I would recommend to anyone, especially to
users of multiple formats. It creates up to 6 hrs of very good quality DVDs.
The product was delivered in a timely manner in excellent condition.

Don't take a risk.......2007-01-02

I saw many bad reviews for this recorder but for the price of $76, the cheapest I could find at this time so I purchased it. The remote was not working and could not set up or program. I could open and close the tray from the recorder without the try but nothing else. Had to return to amazon. No wonder the price is getting cheaper but it will not be worth to try this recorder.

DEFECTIVE PRODUCT - ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE.......2006-05-05

In less that 3 weeks after I received this item it became defective by having only audio - no picture. I wrote them an e-mail using the address that was in the owner's manual. There was no response to my e-mail. There was no way that I was going to use the phone number listed in the manual and have to be on hold indefinately, all the while paying for the phone call myself.

An e-mail to Amazon was returned in less than 24 hours saying they would give me a refund and pay for the postage to return it. My thanks to Amazon for standing behind their sales even when the manufacturer won't.

Too many bugs to mention.......2006-04-11

I shelved this piece of junk moonths ago. It doesn't always record as scheduled; the machine sometimes doesn't turn itself on to do a scheduled recording. If you have weekly recordings for the same day, only the first one will be recorded. If you set the machine to record once a week at, say, 8pm it will turn itself on everyday at 8pm. If you try to play a blank DVD, the machine will freeze. The clock is faster by one minute each month. In its first year, the tuner stopped working. I got a new unit with the manufacturer's warranty. A year later it froze every time I tried to record. Needless to say, that's game over. This piece of junk is useful only as a player, not as a recorder.

It took us a couple of months to fully understand this product, but we now know enough to burn c'ds with ease and have had no complaints .

It took my wife a couple ofweeks to learn how to turn it on to the right channel, since you may have to hook it up differently than the normal way, and the eject button on the player itself won't eject the dvd, only the remote will ??.

It is now a year old and still going strong. I have has ample dvd players that have wasted away in less that a year , so you have to give it credit!

But its job was to copy family dvd's from video and play dvd's and it does that , so just give it a chance and get past the really bad instructions .

A gamble.......2007-08-10

It is just a gamble if you get a good one or not. Just like the other reviewer I ordered two of them and got one good 3.7V 900mAh battery that works great and one weak 3.6V 600mAh battery that doesn't hold a charge.

If you could get a good one every time it would be a good deal, but with about half of them betting junk it doubles the price.

Battery Is Weak and Fails To Hold A Charge Well.......2007-01-03

One of the two Lithium Ion Batteries that I received was rated with only a 600mAh rating. This battery is WEAK and does not hold a charge well at all. It holds a charge only slightly better than my 3-year old battery that I was replacing.

Hard to use; inconvenient.......2005-02-22

I've had this MP3 player for several years now, and the only reason I bought it in the first place was that it took SmartMedia, just like my camera.

Bad thing #1: It is not a USB mass storage device. This means you *must* use their software to copy the files to it. It also means that it can't double as a Flash drive or as a SmartMedia reader.

Bad thing #2: The controls are awkward and badly designed. The interface is badly designed and hard to use. The actual knob is fiddly -- a single control can be pushed in to mean Ok or Enter, or moved up-down to pick a menu entry. If I use the tip of my thumb or index finger to move it up or down, then I can either push too softly and I can't move it because it slips, or I can push too hard and it registers as Enter. The resistance at pushing in is too feeble and that at moving sideways is too strong. In addition, when holding the player upright (which is the natural way to hold it in one hand), you need to move the knob up for "down" and down for "up". I still can't get used to that.

Bad thing #3: When the battery is almost dead, it stops playing, shuts itself down, *forgets what song it was playing*, turns itself on, resumes playing the first song you played in that session, shuts itself down after a second or two, turns itself back on, resumes playing the first song, and so on, until the battery is completely drained (a good half hour). This is very annoying if you're using it while driving and don't have time reach to it and turn it off (which is difficult, because it only takes the button if you press it at the right moment).

Miscelaneous other bad things:

If you take the SmartMedia out and use it for anything else, even if you put the files back on it as they were, it won't work. It only works if you copy stuff on the SmartMedia using the player itself.

The external battery holder is funny. It only attaches to the player through the power connector, which means it's free to swing around and get disconnected and fall off any time. Things get better if you put the player and the battery holder in the case, but it's hard to push the battery holder in (very tight fit), and extremely hard to get it out.

The FM radio is fair at best (noisy weak reception, slightly noisy even with strong signals).

The included earbuds are decent, but the player can't drive a full-sized pair of headphones without losing some sound quality (the low frequencies are especially affected).

You can hear a high-pitched sound caused by interference from the backlight driver whenever the backlight is on.

The battery charger is rather heavy for what it does. The player can't charge its battery from the USB port or from the external power adapter. You need to take the battery out to charge it. The external AAA battery holder allows you to continue to listen to music while the internal battery is in the charger, but that drains the battery, so it's not an economical solution. You can't use rechargeable AAA batteries in the extrenal holder.

If you put the player in the case, you *have* to use the FM radio or the inline remote, because the lid doesn't close if you just plug the headphones straight into the player. Also, the cord of the headphones is too short to allow you to clip both the player and the in-line remote on the belt.

The player is (or used to be) too expesive for all its shortcomings. There are much better alternatives now for a fraction of the original prices, both from Samsung and from the competition.

Good thing: The player looks good, and it's fairly small and lightweight. This doesn't even begin to compensate for all its disadvantages.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.......2004-04-05

I bought mine in January of 2003 becuase my roommate recommended this product to me becuase I was interested in an MP3 player with FM. I got it and for the first couple months, I really didn't have that many problems. But NOW I absolutely hate this machine and WOULD NOT recommend it to anyone. This FM tuner is so weak it might as well not be on there. The program to transfer music is actually not that bad-but one thing I hate about it is that it sometimes doubles up on the song if you change the name of the song-which means sometimes you transfer to the player and a song and it won't even play. Also-the headphones are the worst!! From month two the wiring started to peek through and now, the music won't play in both ears simultaneously. SO frustrating. Its ok for jogging and workouts, as I said I didn't have problems with it initially. But now, its so annoying becuase I don't get good music in both ears, there is no FM for when I run, and in general, this is just not a good buy. I would NOT recommend it. Save your money and buy a higher end MP3 player ( I bought this one refurbished on Amazon and now Samsung won't honor the warranty) like an IPOD or something.

Tiny easy to use player.......2004-01-30

I've had this machine for 18 months now, never had a problem, and when I lost my original software CD a call into Samsung gave me a prompt replacement. It's small and simple, replace the headphones that come with it as they are not very good.

Looks nice, but it's badly designed.......2003-07-28

Pros:
The music sounds great and the amount of storage is sizable enough that you don't need to update/change the tracks frequently. The metal casing is very stylish and the dual use as a audio recorder really helps (ie. college lectures)

Cons:
The software is difficult to use because it collects a "database" of music by scanning your hard drive. Music can't be uploaded until the mp3 is in the database. If you're like me and download new music all the time, it becomes a hassle to update the database. The leather carrying case isn't designed well for headphones. The auxillary battery hangs on the edge and is a bit awkward.

OVERALL:
It's a good mp3 player if you're not going to walk around with it. Definitely NOT designed for athletic activity. Mine broke after 7 months (as many people have cited similar complaints). Consider the new smaller Mp3 players if you're an active person, or just wait and hopefully Samsung will come out with an improved version

Great Features, Poorly built.......2003-07-19

Bought the Yepp 700 online exactly a year ago, and it is now broken. The battery case will not shut. (This has happened to many other customers. BUYER BEWARE.)

However, the mp3 player does have nice features.
-Good Sized Memory
256 mb is alot of storage. You can get about 70 songs with that. Buy the media card. It's cheap.
-Slick looking
The yepp is very nice looking. It is also pretty small. Good to exercise with.
-Remote control

The makers of the original Lava Lamp make a freaky blue sphere you can fondle. Glows a peaceful blue for hours. Can pass around a camp fire or play games with it. Instead of a game of Hot Potato, you can play cold potato! Will make cats leave the room and if you have a terrier, they will bark at it. Do we live in a great century or what?
