Best Notebook Ever.......2006-02-27
Introduction
As the end of 2005 was approaching, I began to scout the market for a new notebook to replace my aging, two and half year old Sager Midern. Although still a young adult, I would consider myself an expert power user when it comes to computers, have built many systems, worked for technology-based firms, and had extensive training in both hardware and software computer aspects. I needed a computer that would be extremely mobile, but at the same time deliver astonishing performance for gaming, programming and 3D design. I’ll admit to having a spoiled taste when it comes to shopping for laptops, so I was also interested in the laptop having aesthetic appeal, individuality, and an ergonomic working environment. I carefully examined many laptops, including the PowerBook, Acer, Thinkpad, and Sony lines, but it wasn’t until I came across a picture of the W3V on the internet that I instantly knew this was the computer for me. As of now, I’ve owned this laptop for just over a month and am extremely satisfied.
Form and Design
The first thing you notice about this laptop is the beautifully crafted exterior case. The top is made of brushed aluminum, sanded down to provide a smooth touch and reflective surface. The battery is neatly stowed away to the back of the notebook, slimming it down considerably and transferring all the input/output ports to the sides. At first, I was subjective to the idea of having many wires hanging off the side of my laptop when it is plugged in for desktop use, but I’ve quickly become accustomed to the layout. The rest of the casing is made of durable plastic, with an aluminum finishing touch to the touchpad and border. Upon applying pressure to the case, the plastic bends a few millimeters, adding powerful resistance to shock. The display is beautiful, with boasting colors and extremely bright backlight that I sometimes even have to dim down because it is too bright at night. The laptop shipped with one dead pixel in the top-right quadrant and although Asus offers to exchange the screen for no additional cost, I’ve decided not to bother, because at maximum resolution it’s almost impossible to detect. The keys have a sort of “futuristic” font type and a relatively comfortable to use. However, if you are a fast typer like me and you press to hard on the keys, your fingers will have a tendency to clip under keys are you shift your fingers around. This is a slight annoyance, but I have adjusted my typing routines and it no longer bothers me. There are a total of ten multimedia hot keys on the sides of the laptop that can be used to toggle media control, Bluetooth, wireless, touchpad, etc. Although they look fragile, I haven’t had an instance where I’ve pressed one of them by accident once. Also, the monitor latch is magnetic, not physical, so you have to take care not to accidentally jerk the screen open when handling the notebook. There is a built-in microphone underneath the screen, which has an impressive quality when used in conjunction with a microphone boost. Four LED lights on the bottom left of the case indicate power, battery charge, CPU load, and wireless. The wireless light has never shined yet, but if it did, I would only consider it an additional distraction. Overall, this is a beautiful casing for a laptop, compared with cheap plastic models offered by other notebook manufacturers.
Performance
Now on to the true test of the W3V’s might. I purchased this laptop with a 750 1.86GHz processor, 1GB of DDR-RAM, 100GB HDD, and the standard ATI X600 video card. This processor has a 533Mhz FSB with a huge 2MB cache, making this an extremely powerful gaming machine. I’m an avid Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source gamer and am able to play on full settings at max resolution (less anti-aliasing) without a hitch at a steady 40-50 FPS. For a five pound laptop, this is simply fantastic. With a gigabyte of RAM, office productivity is overwhelming, with virtually no burps in performance. The only downside is the slow 4,200 RPM drive, which can cause some problems if your page file isn’t set up correctly. I wish there was more to say, but simply put this laptop cruises along just great with both light and hardcore use.
Mobility
Asus classifies the W3V as an ultra-portable series of laptops and this magnificent computer definitely lives up to its word. To start off, the W3V is equipped with a built-in Wireless 2915 802.11A/B/G card, which picks up great reception anywhere at my home or campus. Unlike many students with common Dell laptops, the Asus is able to pick up weak signals where other cards fall short. Also equipped is a Bluetooth device. Unless you’re new to the vast world of technology, you should be already familiar with Bluetooth and its vast abilities. Synchronize PDAs and cell phones, connect a wireless headset, or even connect to other laptops in its reception radius. I haven’t much use for this device yet, but I can assure you that it works perfectly up to 50 ft or so. Last, but not least, is the Infrared port. Now, most computers come standard with the IR link, so there’s not much to boast about here, but if lack Bluetooth devices, you will most likely be able to connect them via this plug-and-play hardware. I am able to use my cell phone as a dial-up modem anywhere in the United States using T-Mobile’s web services for $5.99 a month and it’s fantastic. However, if you’re a stationary user, you’ll be happy to know that the built in LAN card supports Gigabit Ethernet, maximizing network benchmarks. The benefits don’t stop there, as the 8-cell Lithium Ion battery is another fantastic addition. The W3V comes with a free Power Gear manager that utilizes Intel’s SpeedStep technology and ATI’s Catalyst drivers to throttle down the processor to 800MHz and the video card to maximize battery life. Dimming the backlight all the way, leaving only a shimmer of light, in conjunction with a slowed processor could put out as much as four and half hours of battery life, while having the system run at the highest performance possible usually yields just under two hours. As a test, I played Half-Life 2 on the battery without experiencing any cripple in performance for almost one hour and fifty minutes! Power users will be happy to know that they can manipulate the processor and video card voltages and bus speeds to change their frequencies and manipulate battery life at their disposal with third party software, such as Notebook Hardware Control. Finally, the laptop is thin and light, making it perfect for a 15” notebook sleeve and a school or messenger bag.
The Bad News
As with all things, this laptop has its share of negative aspects. The first and quite possibly the most noticeable is the amount of heat that this computer generates. The hard drive is located below the right palm and almost within five minutes of computer use, the hard drive will warm to approximately 35+ degrees Celsius. The single fan that resides on the right of the laptop will spin, but very quietly. When I say quiet, I mean that you wouldn’t even know it’s exhausting warm air if your hand wasn’t near it. When playing games, the processor warms to a whopping 60+ degrees Celsius, but don’t worry, Centrino processors are rated to operate up to 80 degrees Celsius without a hitch, after which they will automatically throttle down to prevent damage. So far, I haven’t encountered temperatures over 65 degrees Celsius, nor have I come across heat-related issues, other than a slight discomfort to my hand. When I opened the laptop to examine the configuration, it turns out that the CPU and video card share the same heatsink, with a copper pipe approximately ¾” leading from the CPU to the tiny fan. Once again, I reassure you that this isn’t a matter of concern. Secondly, you must consider the price. At the time of this review, I doubt you will find this computer for less than $1,600. It’s worth every penny, but only if you’ve got that kind of money. Finally, the touchpad drivers are a bit tricky. In some applications, the virtual scroll bar will work seamlessly, while other times it will not work at all. This isn’t really a big deal because I use a USB mouse anyway, but touchpad fanatics may be disappointed.
Conclusions
Well, I’ve briefly covered my month-long experience with the Asus W3V and I’m extremely satisfied. This notebook not offers a pleasing body, but an extraordinary list of specifications that you’ll be surprised are fit into such a small and portable computer. My father envies me, having purchased an Asus M5A instead, while one of my friends is selling his two month-old PowerBook in exchange for my exact model. With the Asus W3V, you’re bound to turn a few heads in your directions, provide yourself with maximum productivity at the office, and be able to play newly released video games for months to come.

Customer Reviews:
Wow! Decent quality at an excellent price........2000-10-12
I just received my new monitor and I have set up in about ten minutes. Decent picture - not the best I have seen but for the price, a great value.
The on-screen menu takes some time to understand (of course I did not read the instructions) but fairly easy to learn how to navigate.
I would highly recommend this monitor for the home/office user who wants a larger monitor, decent picture quality, and a great price.
Excellent Monitor for the Price.......2000-10-06
I needed a new monitor, and I wanred somthing big. But I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This is a wonderful monitor for it's price, and so far it has been workng fine. When I first pluged it in, I was running it at a lower resolution than it's max. For some reason, doing this created odd wavy lines on the screen. I was all ready to complain and send it back when I decided to try it at the max resolution. Now it looks crystal clear and works like a charm! So yo, buy one.
Great Monitor For the Price.......2000-09-27
I work at company where $700-$1000 19" and 21" monitors are common, I must say for the price I paid, I feel like I have ordered one of those $1000 monitors. The quality of the picture is great, better than many of the monitors I use at work. If you are looking for a monitor that supplies high quality for a low price, this is it. It performs incredibly well at 1280x1024 resolution in both Windows 98 and RedHat Linux 6.1. The picture is clean and crisp. However, the on-screen displays can be cumbersome at times. All in all this is a great monitor for home/gaming
Excellent, Especially Considering Price.......2000-07-26
Paid $500; now it's $300. Have had it 2 years with much use. Great picture and is excellent for games. One thing is you have to sit back a ways; the screen is like television.
Great price but short life.......2000-06-27
I just received this monitor a few days ago. It worked fine the first day except the right side of the display was a bit higher than the left one. You wouldn't see it, if not noticing. The second day the display started blinking and came out black afterwards. I plan to give it another try but after reading the reviews on other model of KDS monitor (KDS VS-19SN), it seems that they have bad life too. Please read them before you make any decision on buying KDS monitor. For your information, KDS offers 3-year warranty.

Olympus Stylus 150 .......2007-06-12
Great camera if your still into film cameras. The pictures are crisp, and the colors are outstanding.
Poor quality camera.......2005-10-29
I bought two of these cameras as gifts. Picture quality was ok...not great clarity but good color. Good for birthday party snapshots. After a few months, the sliding door stopped working on one of them. And shortly after the warranty expired (1 year) the other camera stopped working. Olympus phone service and Web site offered no help except to suggest that the only way to get it repaired was to mail it to them. For the price of $75.00 they would fix it. As the camera cost me $92.00, I'll just toss it in the trash. And NEVER buy an Olympus camera again!! That's my product review.
Great Camera!.......2005-10-03
Let me say I'm a bit of a camera freak so I have had many different cameras and have researched them. This is a great camera! I wouldn't consider it "ultra-compact" given what's on the market these days (I would consider it fairly average), but I have not been disappointed with the outcome of my pictures taken with this camera. Just make sure the camera is able to focus. I took it to Hawaii and it took great pictures with or without flash! I took pictures in the evening, from inside a submarine, at night, inside, outside,... just about everywhere in every type of situation! I hardly made any adjustments and it took beautiful pictures! The shake sensor.. you have to set the camera to that mode in order to use it and i believe it doesn't stay activated after you've taken a picture. I find myself having to reactivate that feature every time I want to take a picture using it. However, I rarely use it. As far as I can tell, the sensor only really works if the camera is shaking pretty hard, but maybe the camera is just that good and will only really take a bad shot if you're in a really shaky situation. For being an all-weather designed camera, I think it would've been better if it were made of metal like the all-weather Stylus Select 105.

A fantastic OUTDOOR camera........2006-08-30
I work at a professional photofinishing lab, and I can attest to the quality of the film inside this camera. The Kodak FunSaver produces excellent results in outdoor and bright indoor shots. However, it does not perform well under normal circumstances indoors and in low-light situations.
The flash on the FunSaver is designed for outdoor use. Even if you are shooting outdoors with this camera, make sure you use the flash. In general, using a flash outdoors provides extra versatility when shooting subjects against bright backgrounds, and in all but the brightest sunlight, the flash will not wash out your subjects.
For indoor or low-light shooting, consider the Kodak PowerFlash camera.
Cheap and Nasty!.......2004-06-16
I recently used the Kodak Funsaver camera at a Birthday. The majority of the Photo's were taken inside using the flash. The Flash must be pressed before each shot is taken otherwise the Flash won't go off (As I quickly discovered). The results were a little dissapointing, very unclear, very grainy. These camera's are cheap in price and I'm guessing aimed at the younger market for things such as School excursions and Camping trips. If you are attending a Birthday and want above average photographs then I suggest spending the little extra and getting one of the more advanced Kodak disposable cameras.
Cheap, Inexpensive way of taking Color Pics!.......2004-01-03
Low in Price, these Camera's are a great way of taking Color Shots. However, being lower in Price than the Max HQ and the Advantix Single Use Camera's you sometimes tend to get Pics that aren't as clear. A Great idea for a Child's School Camp or Excursion.
Eay to use.......2000-10-30
I love these cameras. They are so easy to use, and a lot easier to deal with when it comes time to get the film developed. No fuss with having to wind the film and no worry on your part of exposing the film to light.
