Decent laptop with a ton of flaws.......2006-01-10

This laptop looks great but its performance is very poor in several areas. First, the battery overheats to the extent that after an hour or so, the area around the touchpad is literally too hot to touch for any period of time. Second, the wireless capacity is absolute garbage. Even sitting next to my router, I loose my wireless signal every couple of minutes. Meanwhile, my brother's Dell keeps a signal into the next zip code. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Dells, which is the reason I bought an Averatec in the first place. But my purchase was misguided. If you're going to spend $1000+ on a laptop, get an HP, or suck it up and get a cheap IBM.

ONE WORD, HORRIBLE.......2005-12-15

Expect substandard customer service and support who treats the customers as if they should just accept the minor defects on a brand new laptop.
Dead dots on the screen are not acceptable but they say it is. The built in wireless is weak. These laptops get very hot, hotter than most laptops should be when running.
All in all, do not spend money on a laptop due to PRICE. You get what you pay for and this is another unknown company that will disappear as many other tech companies have in the past due to poor service and substandard products.

Faulty and Falling Apart.......2005-09-05

Earlier this year I was in desperate need of a laptop for school. I did a little online research and didn't find too many user reviews and it was the cheapest tablet pc that had an internal cd/dvd drive within my price range. I purchased it in February and not even a month later I was having major issues. The cursor would spontaneously get stuck in the upper right hand corner of the screen causing me to accidently close out of the screen if I was in mid-click. The bottom would burn up after about 30 minutes. The screen has went completely black on a number of occassions, it has went completely white numerous times (I would have to turn the monitor to get the picture back), and other times the screen would shake or blink. The computer pads at the botton of the computer have fallen off as well as one of the pads on the monitor. The paint on the latch that holds the stylus comes off easily, and I had hairline cracks on the left side of the keyboard that have evolved into larger cracks. Another thing that I don't care is the fact that that images on the screen can only be scene clearly if you are facing it. The picture quality from any other angle is horrible and it does not adjust to lighting at all. I have to constantly move my screen to get a good picture. The speaker volume is also extremely low even at it's highest level. Also, my battery only lasts 120 minutes and it only gives you a a few seconds before it shuts off.

The good things about this computer are it's capabilities and versatility. I love that fact that it has voice functions and of course the ability to handwrite notes, and I love the cd/dvd combo. It has a speedy procecssor and adequate memory.

I definately wouldn't recommend this tablet pc to anyone unless you are willing to deal with all these inconveniences on a regular basis.

Overheating battery.......2005-08-18

This is my first laptop. Overall it works pretty well with 3 major exceptions. 1. If I don't keep the right underside of it open to constant ventilation, it overheats within 30 minutes and shuts down. Averatec {Hitachi} claims this model was not included in their overheating battery recall earlier this yr. I beg to differ. My son, who builds and programs computers says this laptop definitely should not be getting this hot, EVER!
2. The DVD/CD Rom, Drive/Player stopped working after 5 months and I had only used it 4 or 5 times. It simply does not recognize that there is a DVD/CD in the drive.
3. Averatec's customer service stinks. They do NOT stand behind their products when things go wrong.

Great notebook.......2005-08-06

At first I was a little skeptical, since I have never even heard of Averatec, but after 4 months of owning it, I have to say it's the best notebook I ever had, including HP. It is fast and reliable. The battery lasts 2 and a half hours. The screen size is great. My kids love the DVD player. I take it to gymnastics meets and the kids watch up to 3 movies, like advetised, and they don't care if the picture is a little stretched. It works great with my router, never had any problems whatsoever. I reccommend it to anyone.

Great features, poor construction.......2006-09-23

I have read consistant reviews on all the different sizes of this drive of poor constructions - the plastic breaks very easily. But this was the ONLY drive on the market that had the features I want - specificly, encrypted and non-encrypted portions, non-U3, and the ability to attach a lanyard/keychain to the actual drive, NOT THE CAP (which is a really stupid idea - one day you'll wind up with a cap and a missing drive).

Unfortunately, its all true - The cap has complete disintegrated after carrying the drive around for a few months. I can buy more, but I resent having to do so. Additionally, one of the two snaps that holds the caps on has also broken off, and that I CAN'T replace unless I replace the entire drive. So far the cap is not falling off, but if the other one falls off...

VERY POOR QUALITY.......2006-05-10

We purchased 21 of these. 20 out of the lot are defective. The Lightning "Jump Drives" have a rubber/plastic molding that holds the front and back of the jump drive together. The cap is built the same way. Upon removing the drives from the package, and removing the caps, most of them cracked and parts of the plastic fell off. We contacted Lexar (brush up on your Indian language skills before calling) and did not get anywhere with them..... I would NOT recommend buying from Lexar. We returned the products to PC Mall, and exchanged them for SanDisk Cruzer Titaniums. MUCH BETTER!

Excellent drive!.......2006-02-27

Build quality on this guy is top notch. I really like the heavier, more solid feel of it being metal.

Speeds are quicker than what I was accustomed to using other drives @ work.

Wish it came with a lanyard, but I had one to use anyway.

Bought it from T@rget for twenty-nine dollars and nintey-five cents.

OK, so I have only used the thing like 3 times, but it's already very impressive! BUT being a flash pen, I will have to update my review in a couple months... ANYWAY, first reactions:
- The steel-feel case is great! I love the feel and weight of it, it even comes with a felt cloth so you can polsih it! You quickly realize that there's plastic insides, but its well-hidden. The cap does come off... you could loose it, however because of the steel casing it's larger and more visible, making it harder to loose.
- Transfer speeds are fast! I dont think it's a speed-demon but it's certainly one of the fastest USB Flash Drives out there for 50 bucks! You
- There's included software to protect your documents but I dont know if it's any good and I probably will never use it.

CON: Made in China. :)

So far I am not regretting this purchase, and even if it lasts me just 1 1/2 years, i'll be happy at $50!

I have had this system and their 6 disc DVD player for a year. They both work flawlessly. The sound is rich and I haven't had a single problem. I am attaching speakers to go in my bed room. It has separate outs for this but I haven't used them. This will be the final test. I don't think it will give me any trouble.

Never in focus.......2003-01-07

I know this camera is convenient but the pictures are never sharp. I have used it for a year. I wish I had spent a little more to get a quality 35mm. I plan to replace it with a digital model at greater expense. At least I won't lose the cost of film & developing, approx $15 a roll.

Flash.......2002-07-06

I loved the size of the camera, but that has its flaws. A constant problem was red eye. Even with the red eye reduction, it was quite prevalent. I believe, from what I have read, the flash is too close to the lens.

Problems with Lens Cover.......2000-08-18

One of the major problems with these tiny APS cameras is simple mechanical reliability. According to the experts at the New York camera store where I bought my Revio, the Canon Elphs are notorious for the frequency of problems with their pop-up flash components. That was, and is, a good reason to consider the Revio, which has the flash fixed in the camera chassis. On the other hand, a few months after I purchased a Revio its lens-cover became stuck half-closed, reducing an entire roll of pictures to a kafka-esque parody. Tiny slivers of the natural bridges national monument are all I have left.

One mechanical failure in one camera is not necessarily worthy of note, but my brother also bought a Revio and had problems with it. In his case, the camera automatically rewound the roll of film after only a few pictures had been taken, leaving him with about six pictures across several rolls of film taken on a vacation in Portugal.

In all other ways I'm extremely pleased with the camera--its image quality and feature set are both terrific. And I know of two others who own this model and have had no problems. Just keep in mind that all of these tiny cameras are prone to mechanical problems--do your research beforehand, but even so you can't count on trouble-free operation.

Excellent but could have certain design enhancements.......1999-12-28

The camera, although slightly bigger than the Canon Elph and the Revio Z-2, produces excellent photographs. The features are robust and it delivers a zoom capability that surpasses many in its size and price category. The only drawback I have found is the slightly awkeward placement of the zoom buttons (compared to the Elph). All in all, it is a great buy.

Konica Revio.......1999-11-24

In addition to the tiny size, the weight of this camera is small enough to really make it a terrific snapshot camera. The only drawback, which was slight, was the fact that the zoom had a small range if you are used to a zoom camera. The picture quality was amazing for something so tiny it seemed like a toy.

I've had this mouse for about three years now and I've loved it up 'til recently when I started playing first person shooting games. When I play counterstrike, I have to use very low sensitivity so I can aim well, so when I need to turn around or turn a corner I need to do it fast. Well it turns out that this mouse is not good at tracking fast movement-- in fact, it doesn't even register it, and as a result I ususally end up dying. So for general purposes this is a great mouse, I really do like it, but I'm going to have to buy a new one that can track fast movement for gaming.

I've had this mouse for quite some time now. It's been pretty good, but there are times where it would jump around the screen for no reason at all. It would often get on my nerves, but other than that, it is convenient and works fine when it isn't jumping around the screen.

As a web developer, I do a lot of mixed work that requires single-pixel precision, and this is by far the best mouse I've ever used.

I've rarely seen any of the skipping or lag common among optical mice, and paired with a real optical mousepad the movement is smooth and responsive.

As everyone here has said, it's been discontinued, but you can still find them. I've bought three since I found out they were going away! Bring 'em back!

I absolutely love this mouse... I have about 5 of them. After Logitech stopped making the Wingman Gaming mouse, I switched over to the Dual Optical. At the time this came out (about 3 years ago), it was the ONLY mouse that tracks fast enough for gaming. The SHAPE of the mouse is sublime.

It's now 2004. This mouse has been discontinued, which is sad. I bought an MX510 for kicks and it's now sitting in my drawer. The MX510 was bubbly, heavy, bulky, the buttons slip. Basically all the reasons why I hated the MS Explorer mouse is now the new Logitech range. Sigh.

Oh well.. good thing I have a stash of these. :)
