Very Reliable Cheap Widescreen LCD.......2007-08-19

When I purchased this item from Amazon.com, it was the lowest price I found for 20" Widescreen LCD - Name Brand - on the Web. I sacrificed one inch and got a 19" instead. I have not had any problems with the unit since my purchase. The monitor was very easy to install (Windows recognized it automatically). The only thing one needs to do after install is to right-click the Windows Desktop and set the monitor to the highest resolution (1440 x 900), as the monitor did not do this automatically, or use the buttons on the monitor to go into the Menu and select "Auto Adjust." This monitor has dual inputs (DVI and VGA).

Good 19" LCD monitor.......2007-07-21

The size of this monitor is great for gaming, i was a little worried about Benq brand ( famous brands, viewsonic, samsung, etc), but it managed to fills my needs. It features an 8 ms response time, on the spot for gaming ( specially fps). Arrived with no problems at all, but after 5 months of use, 5 dead pixels appeared on the screen ( if you look for them!!, no big deal), all in all very good product...

I gave this monitor to my husband for Christmas and he says it is the best one he's ever had. The picture is bright and clear with vivid colors, while leaving ample room on the top of the desk for the work he is doing. He praises it to everyone who comments on it and has had many who do so.

I bought this monitor last week. I upgraded from a 17" flatscreen CRT. This thing is gorgeous compared to my old one. It has zero dead pixels and is working great so far.

Pros - Relatively cheap, 1280x1024 native res (looks nice in any res though), DVI, Easy to install, brightness/contrast/colour are excellent. It also has a decent angle adjustment, and has a little cable clip at the back to keep things in place. The stand is wide and sturdy.

Cons - It was packaged fairly light... and it is a heavy monitor. Luckily it was not damaged during shipping.

I don't have much to compare this to in the realm of other, higher end LCDs as I've never worked with any higher priced monitors, but we liked the first one we bought enough to buy a 2nd! My husband plays World of Warcraft and has nothing but praise for the one I purchased him a few months ago, has not had any problems with speed or "dead pixels" or "ghosting"...same for the 2nd one we just purchased this week. I wish it adjusted to go higher and lower, but it does tilt up and down (I think the Dell LCDs adjust higher and lower), but otherwise it's pretty awesome having a 19" flat screen for a decent price!

Great monitor.......2007-02-24

I'm working on it right now, I've had it a few years and it's still one of the nicest LCD screens I have seen.

Color is great, it doesn't have the deepest blacks but it still has great image quality. If I wanted killer blacks I would get a CRT.

Viewing angle it no problem at all. Ghosting is nonexistant.

The screen rotation feature is great for documents and with the LCD there is less eye fatigue than with standard monitors.

It's really nice having the 19". At some point I want to go dual monitor with it but for now I love it.

I've had this monitor for about a week and a half now and i couldn't be more please with it. The contrast is fantastic, and text is crystal clear and sharp. I have experienced no ghosting in the games that I play Doom 3 and WC3. The swivel is very convenient for reading online textbooks and writing papers, as i am a student, and i could not be happier with my purchase.

Great for it's PRICE (504$ sale)! but there are drawbacks..........2004-09-09

GAMING
First off let me tell you that this has been a great monitor to have for it's price (504$ at the time of the sale). Even though it had 25ms, I ran games like UT 2004, ET, and Doom 3 and saw that there wasn't any ghosting at the native resolution 1280x1024. If you run it at any other resolution in games such as Diablo 2 (800x600 max) you'll see artifacts and pixelation. This is thru the DVI connection on an ATI 9500 pro.

BRIGHTNESS
Another good point of the monitor is it's extremely bright that I had to turn down the brightness on the monitor to 0. Along with adjustments to the video card brightness in the Display options. To help alleviate the headaches caused by the bright screen, additional back lighting in the room is needed (because it will sting your eyes if the only light source is coming from this monitor).

DVD PLAYBACK
DVD movies, DIVX, and others ran fine, popped in the Matrix and Reloaded and saw it handle the fast action sequences just fine and crisp as well.

LOOKS/AESTHETICS
The looks of this monitor is extremely sleek with it's thin bezel and black charcoal color. When I first took it out of the box, I marveled at the size of the panel (previous monitor was a 19" crt).

GHOSTING ON WEB PAGES
But as the previous reviewer mentioned, there is ghosting while scrolling, especially with dark background web pages with white text(or a light color). It's extremely evident. And it's a problem associated with LCD's. Because of this I get headaches while browsing through web forums or pages because the ghosting is really evident and my eyes have been trained to detect it now.

THE UNFLEXIBLE STAND
Plus the stand that comes with this monitor does not let you turn the monitor left<->right (you have to adjust the stand for that). It was also a pain to install the DVI connection since the monitor comes attached to the stand, you have to tilt the panel backward so that you can reach in there blindly to attach the DVI/power connectors.

I'm sorry to say that I am going to have to return this monitor for a dell 2001fp and see if the higher response rate will help (even though I was told the problem occurs with 16ms response rates as well).

Very good product, except..........2004-08-27

First, let me say Amazon did a better job than usual. Order placed on 08/15, item received 3 days later. And at that time, it's still $504.

Setup is easy. I use the DVI connection with Sapphire ATI 9200 64M, a low-end VC, but the image still crystal-clear! I watch some DVD on my PC, the BIG DIFFERENCE from my old 17' HP CRT make you feel it's worth every penny you have spent...

I gave it 4 stars, mainly because it's image quality and price (you can't beat the $500 for a 19' LCD). But it's not perfect, and here is why:

1. Ghost. BenQ FP951 has response time of 25ms, and ghost is apparently noticeable. I am not talking about playing games, but normal Windows operation, like dragging a folder across screen or scrolling a webpage. My poor VC may also contribute to it, so if you believe a high-end VC can correct this, ignore my complain.

2. Menu is not well written. It seems like cheap paper, and really doesn't make you feel that you just spent $500 on it. It's written in 5, maybe 6 languages, not one after another, but interlaced for each sentence. It's kind of annoying.

3. Also due to the poor menu. Be advised that when you use DVI, the 'auto setup' and 'geometry' function is disabled. I didn't know this till get off phone with BenQ tech support. They should have said something in the menu.

Except these minor issues, I recommend this product. If you are not so picky about the ghost, do programming, word processing all the time, this 'cheap' 19' LCD is a very good choice for you.

Excellent LCD Monitor.......2004-06-30

I just bought this monitor on June 18 but not from Amazon though. This monitor is an excellent monitor, I think it's about the same quality as the Dell Ultrasharp 1901FP, if not better. When I first hooked this monitor up, it's a little too bright for me so I have to turn it down a bit and it's a little bit difficult to hook the monitor cable up, but you only need to do it once so that wasn't a problem. And for the price on a 19" you cannot beat and it's also a excellent monitor. I am a very picky person and this monitor leave me with speechless when I hooked it up. Oh yeah, and no dead pixel for me.

Best for the price.......2005-12-16

I picked these up online for under $300/each 8 months ago....it was a hard deal to pass up. I was a little leary about the brand at first (I have had some problems with my BenQ projector). I was surprised how good these looked right out of the box! These monitors outperformed the 19" Princetons and IBM's I have used at work (which were much more $$$). Stormfront Productions (http:/www.stormfrontproductions.net) now solely uses these monitors for are employees. We are able to provide out clients with crisp graphics that are spot on for color every time thanks to these great monitors. I would recommend them to anyone in web development or graphic design.

super monitor, clear, fast, great buy.......2005-01-09

This monitor is a great LCD with DVI, crisp colors and fast response. The looks of the monitor are nice and I had ZERO dead pixels. However people should understand that when compared to good CRTs, LCDs quality is still inferior especially for the price. However for the size and the relative quality (it still looks great, just slightly faded next to my NEC 17" CRT -- but as good if not better than many higher priced, 19" LCDs). Keep that in mind, but you cannot go wrong with this LCD. I plan on buying a second. -- Be sure to get a DVI video card as soon as you can though to take full advantage of the monitor.

Update: The monitor could be brighter, but still very nice. I also have one dead pixle. 4/5 instead of 5/5

Great 19'' LCD with DVI at 16 MS Response Time.......2004-12-14

Just arrived and tested. This is a great 19' LCD with DVI at 16MS Response Time. I am very satisfied with its color, and clearness. I cannot find one dead pixel on the large screen. Setup is quite simple and only took me seconds as a PC administrator in my company. In addition, I have to turn its brightness to less than 35% so that my eyes feel more comfortble. I think its 450:1 ratio is enough for me in terms of its great brightness.

The set's full DualScreen PIP comes with 2 integrated NTSC tuners and the ability to watch 2 different channels simultaneously. PIP features include standard picture in picture (3 sizes, free positioning), 3PIP Mosaic, and 8PIP Mosaic.

Sleek, Lighter, and Great for Movies.......2005-08-19

We originally ordered the 2004 Model of the Philips 32'' Widescreen, but opted to return it in favor of this brand new model from Philips. This one is simply perfect. It is much lighter weight (more plastic, less steel around the edges), is all screen and less casing, and has a fantastic picture. Simply perfect for watching movies.

We signed up for Amazon Prime and got free 2 day shipping for a year(what a deal).

The original order of the 2004 Model of the Philips did arrive damaged from UPS. The box was a mess and was clearly retaped. We accepted the delivery (our mistake) and then realized that Amazon doesn't accept returns on large TVs. They made an exception for us since UPS caused the damage and it was documented in the UPS case. So, we were able to return and a few weeks later we ordered this TV as a replacement. However, take care and read the Amazon return page on wide screen TVs.
