I oculdn't believe it when I listened to these in the store. Bose speakers for famous for bass response. But, these were horrible, with almost no bass. The sound is very tinny. They certainly are not worth this price.
I am warning you. Don't buy these unless you hear them first.
BOSE IS OVERRATED & OVERPRICED.......2007-05-18
BOSE is completely overrated and consistently does not live up to all the hype for their significantly overpriced speakers. I tried these speakers and was so dissappointed they were immediately returned for a much cheaper pair of Pyle's (@ only $84 compared to $279). The BOSE speakers do not even compare to the cheap Pyles that have a much higher Power rating (350watts vs only 100watts), better frequency response(40-20KHZ Vs. 670-20KHz), and even higher sensitivity (94db Vs. 89db).
The specifications for BOSE products are NOT advertised prior to purchase. Geeh. . . I wonder why? The reason is, by doing a direct side-by-side comparison, the BOSE speakers just don't match up & can't hold their ground to a much cheaper speaker since they perform so poorly. After all the advertising and sales gimmicks, the bottom line is that these BOSE speakers cannot even provide the performance of a speaker that is a fraction of the cost. The Bass response was weak & non-existant even for an outdoor speaker and could probably be blown very easily.
Why Pay the outragious costs for an inferior product? BOSE is for the uneducated buyer, who falls for all the sales gimmicks and buys speakers based on their looks alone and completely ignores the performance characteristics.

I bought these speakers for $109 on sale at my local Circuit City for my patio. I was going to buy speakers for my patio, but I wasn't intending on buying Bose because they were so expensive. When I saw these, I bought them. I think there's 3 4" drivers (speakers) in each cabinet (enclosure) The bass isn't quite suited for Nelly or any other rap artist, but it is quite suited for Kenny G. or Jewel. They aren't quit like the 251'S, but almost like them. They're better then Polk, Yamaha, or Boston Acoustics.

These speakers are being used on a large screened porch. I purchased them primarily based on the Bose reputation and their size. They fit very nicely on a shelf at the end of the porch and most people do not notice them. I was very surprised by their great "indoor" sound.

I bought these speakers for my deck area last year. They were super-simple to install and worked great out of the box. They have a great sound and push good volume to my entire back yard. I could even disturb the neighbors if I wished to do so. :)
These speakers have survived the weather quite nicely. One of the speakers gets pretty wet by the gutters overflowing when we have heavy rain, and they have both had snow on top of them, and they still work fine this Spring.
I am considering buying another set for my screened porch area. The only reason they don't get a "five star" rating from me is that the ease of installation also equals ease of deinstallation. I have yet to find an outdoor speaker that has locks or a special tool to keep them from being easily stolen. At this price I would like a little extra security.

This item had a very cool look, for that it gets one star. However the volume was so low that you could not enjoy the music. Hence, defeating the reason you bought it in the first place. There are some cheaper models that do a much better job. I returned the product.

I read a review of this product that complained about compatablity. This product works just fine on my computer (K6-2 AMD 300mHz), and no this product does not work on a TV, it is for your computer. If you can't get this drive to work on your computer its probably because its an Intel processor, buy AMD =).

I bought this as a backup drive for my iMac and iBook. It was very easy to set up (just connect the firewire port and turn it on!) and now, after about a year, I am happy to report that the thing has been rock solid. No hiccups, no oopses, nothing. We have weekly routine backups for two machines on this thing, using Apple's Backup software, and it has been flawless. What more can you ask for?
Fast and easy.......2005-10-17
The LaCie drive is easy as can be to set-up and use with a Mac-When it works. The first one I ordered from Amazon did not work. I was able to return the bad HD without hassle. The new replacement was delivered within two days. LaCie online support took 4 days to return an email. Don't even try calling, it is not an 800 number.
So Far So Good, Mac OS X Tiger & LaCie d2 Backup A-OK. But where's my 10 GB?.......2005-07-23
The first thing you notice when you open the 'LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme' is the excess of wires. There must be 6 wires and adapters, including the power brick. The hard drive is nicely packaged, and has a pretty sleek look that more or less matches my Powerbook G4 aluminum case (contrary to the Amazon.com picture, which is more white). The blue light on the front sort of flickers. Also included in the package is a base-stand for the HD, and some little plastic feet if you choose to lay it on its side (6 feet for 4 slots, in the spirit of excess).
The directions are pretty straightforward: plug in the brick, plug in the HD, connect the wire of your desire. Using the FireWire port on both the PowerBook and HD, I transferred 8GB of documents in about 10 minutes. The transfer was smooth, cited some sort of date error on three documents but didn't prevent the backup from continuing.
A software CD includes a couple of programs; on Mac OS X, the only one of use is the SilverKeeper Software (v1.12), which is also stored onto the HD at the factory, so don't bother with the CD. Once the HD is plugged in, the LaCie Disk mounts to the desktop and allows for drag-and-drop access. I chose to use the software's backup function just to try it, and it worked; there is also a sync function, which I chose not to use because I didn't immediately see options to determine which drive takes authority/precedence to overwrite the other.
The mounted disk info lists disk space as 149.04 GB. I thought I had bought a 160 GB HD.
Overall the backup was smooth and quick. The drive is solid and probably droppable. A slight humming noise is emitted but drowned out easily by iTunes.
I recommend this product as of day one out of the package; however, the Apple site and Amazon reviews seem to indicate that the problems begin after a year of ownership (notably, HD failure). Because of this, I wouldn't recommend going on a delete-spree if your primary use of this external HD is to free up space on your main hard disk. I'll follow up in the summer of 2006.
Works fine under Mac OS 10.4.1 and Linux but not in Windows .......2005-06-15
I had hoped to be able to use this drive under all three operating systems. Unfortunately (and I blame Microsoft for this)
you can use it EITHER with FAT32/NTFS partitions OR with HFS+ and Unix partitions, but not both. (Windows looks for a FAT sector at the beginning, whereas OS 10 put in a Mac sector.)
I connect to the Mac with Firewire 400, and to the Linux box with USB 2.0.
I can boot my Powerbook from the Lacie Drive (after backing up the system with SiverKeeper.
Fedora Core 3 (kernel 2.6.11) automounts all the partitions and I was able to convert the BSD Unix partition to ext3, and create a
FAT32 partition (with parted) on the remaining free space.
Linux allowed me to back up the NTFS and FAT partitions from
the Windows disk to that partition (but windows still does not see it). I am not sure I can restore the NTFS files.
So if you want to use it on Windows you have to format it as FAT32 for the Mac also, which is sort of silly.

Stylish looking case aside, this hard drive does what I needs it to - and a bit more. The fact that it automatically powers on when I turn on my computer is a plus, so it's tucked out of sight. Quiet and pretty darn responsive (it only lags when I don't access it every five or so minutes - darn power saving feature)
Works well with Mac OS 9 & 10.3 - but then external hard drives from LaCie/APS Tech have never given me much of any problem (this is my fifth external hard drive in 10 years - my storage needs keep on outgrowing these hard drives before they wear out!) I probably should have gotten the 250 GB version, but this seemed to be the best bang for the buck.
The multiple ports are useful too, since I was migrating from an ancient beige Mac with a USB card in it to a newer G4. Just saved all the important information over to it, then plugged it into the new Mac's firewire port. Simple as that.

Have had this bag for a few years. Has held up well to a lot of tossing around. The top load feature is great. Have had more than one occasion where camera was in bag but photo opportunity came up, and was able to whip out the camera pretty fast. Only thing I can think of is I wish the front pocket was a little larger, but other than that, it's been a great little bag.
