Customer Reviews:
This is the best you can get!.......2004-06-21
I've had my Bose Lifestyle 35 system for a few days now, and this system is the best you can get! My listening room has 24 foot cathedral ceilings with hardwood flooring, so the acoustics are very lively. The Adapti-Q, auto-equalization, process "listens" to your room's acoustics and sets the sound perfectly. For this reason, the media center does not have any type of readily accessible tone adjustments. You can go into the settings mode to make adjustments, but it is inconvenient and for all practical purposes, unnecessary. It amazes everyone that the tiny jewel cube speakers sound so awesome. One thing to remember: if you're building a new house and want it pre-wired for home theatre, buy this system first, as the speaker cables use special connecters at each of the five speakers, and RCA plugs at the Acoustimass module. You'll need to pre-wire with these cables rather than regular speaker wire. However, Bose can send you adapters for existing speaker wiring.
Customer Reviews:
Decent system.......2004-11-06
Hi, this is my third bose sound system, the first being a lifestyle 8 system, a wave-radio and now this system.
I bought this to replace my lifestyle 8 system, mostly on impulse for $1100. I was also planning to upgrade my sorround sound for a while.
As one of the previous reviewers, this is probably not the best value for money. Dont get me wrong, the sound is quite good, but I do not see a major improvement in the sound quality over my 6 yr old lifestyle 8 system.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
Just a note for one of the previous reviewers, the "boomy bass" can be decreased if you adjust it throuh the remote..simply decrease the bass
Theater sound!! Love it!.......2004-04-30
The versatility of this system is wonderful. The system sets up the sound quality in your designated room with the CD that comes with it. I love the surround sound while watching action packed movies. I think it worth the money for the quality of sound that you receive. I love playing music on the DVD player. I relocated my stereo to my home office, since the BOSE system plays my music and sounds great!!!
BEST Audio system EVER!!.......2004-04-25
This is the Best Home Entertainment System I have ever purchased! You absolutely cannot go wrong here!!!!
If sound matters to you, there are better choices.........2003-04-22
Pros: Adaptiq automated system setup; exquisitely tiny sats; curvy receiver/DVD player; multiroom capability; point-anywhere, radio-frequency remote.
Cons: Expensive; bass-heavy sound; no progressive-scan video outputs.
Summary: For those with limited space this is a fair system. But, there are clearly better choices available; Onkyo, Klipsch, and Paradigm, to name a few. But, if you must have a Bose, Dont forget the "tiny cubes" need to be accompanied by a rather imposing "BASE UNIT". Bose calles it "non-localized", I call it BOOMY. This channel separation should make for good delivery of highs and lows. But it is the lows that stand out. Boy do they stand out! The LS35 produces a rather muddy sound. This system also lacks progressive scan, a common feature even on far less pricey systems. Yeah, I know, Bose speakers are found in high-end automobiles, etc. But, the reality is, Bose sound reproduction is not the best available. After all, when is the last time someone was bragging about their "Klipsch system". Think, listen, and you just might realize that you can get alot more for alot less $$$$. Unless, of course, image is of the utmost importance to you in making a purchasing decision.

FYI.......2006-04-14
I'd just like to say bill you're an idiot, what exactly is Y componet, is it anything like component video? Since s-video and component video use completely different encoding schemes this "crossover cable" you speak of doesn't exist as converting s-video to component requires a transcoder, and would offer no benefit over just using s-video. As far as your "new and improved" DVI connection...how can something be both new and improved, that's a self-defeating statement, and DVI isn't always better than component in every case so better do your homework, like you obviously didn't when you bought bose...if you like the sound quality then whatever floats your boat, but you could have gotten better sound from walmart for around $200. It always saddens me to see someone go out and spend 3 grand on a system that's comparable to a $200 HTIB from walmart, you just wasted $2800 for the little bose sticker on the front of your unit, feel special? I don't mean this to be insulting but to maybe educate people that bose is way overpriced, it's always laughable when i hear someone talking about how bose is the best, newsflash they're nothing more than mediocre and way overpriced for what they do. While i'm on the subject monster cables aren't any better than the $5 cables you get at walmart. I've heard this bose system before at American and it sounded absolutely awful, no midrange or midbass, and over-emphasised bass and treble, no soundstage at all, and practically no inputs for expandability, so there's my review of the system. One question I don't have the answer to is how someone can waste so much money on such trash...honestly? It's a $200 system with a $3000 price tag and everyone blindly buys because they see "ooh it's bose!" pathetic.
Highway robbery!.......2004-12-30
That anyone would seriously plop down three grand for this joke of a system boggles the mind...oh well, never underestimate the power of advertising, and of outrageous-price-inflation-as-marketing-strategy.
My boss bought one of these for his wife this past Christmas, and poor guy---his wife loves the way it looks, but he absolutely hates the way it sounds: tinny treble, weak bass, fuzzy midrange. Sure Bose is great at squeezing things into a tiny pretty package but don't kid yourself, you sacrifice TONS on sound quality, features and functionality. For instance, the main unit offers a ridiculously tiny number of digital inputs on the back, the speaker connections are poor quality, and you can't even set a high-pass filter/crossover but are stuck with the factory setting!
This system is OK if you only watch movies with loud explosions every ten seconds, never listen to any music except for maybe rap, and most of all if you don't know a darn thing about home audio and are too lazy to learn. Bose has done everything for you, assuming that you have the sonic discernment of a mudpie, all you have to do is turn the power on, hit the "play" button, and you're off...
Which in and of itself is no crime, were it not for the obscene price attached to this system---you can get almost audiophile quality for about half, and similar sound from even the lowest end Sony home theater in a box setup for under two hundred dollars!
My boss though has the dough to have real audio equipment for himself in his own separate media room, leaving this ridiculous getup in the living room for his wife, thereby earning boatloads of spousal brownie points in the process.
Unless you are so lucky, I'd advise you to look elsewhere.
Love the sound and size, Picture Quality VERY POOR.......2004-01-17
Hi tec buffs out there. I have had my lifestiles 35 up and running for just over a week now. I do love the sound and I dont complane about midrange of base or anything on the sound of the 35s.just SUPPER HAPPY WITH THAT! I also realy enjoy the size and how they look in my celing and walls. Now for the bad part! The DVD player built in the media center is poor quality. its old tecnoligy. it has realy only a place for S vedio to transfer the vidio signel with. It comes with a special cross over wire that SHOULD let you step up the S vidio to Y COMPONET. I used this crossover wire and got signel drop out from time to time watching a DVD movie. the screen would go black for split seconds at a time. Bose replaced my cross over wire pluse the Media center in hopes of releving the problem but NO LUCK! the black screen continued. I then droped it down to the straight S vidio conection ( NOT USING CROSS OVER WIRE) and it played with no DROP OUT! The problem is in the crossing over from S vidio to Y componet I gess. BUT even when its playing fine I feel the picture quality on the DVDS is poor. It does NOT have progressive scan and I felt it was granney and a bit dark of a picture. I should tell you at the same time I set up the Lifestiles 35 I allso set up a brand new DLP 56" Gateway TV. so all in this system is brand new. Well I did NOT want to give up the sound quality and size of this system so I had to go out and buy the Samsung DVD-HD931. it has TRUE Y componet conection but better than that it has the NEW and IMPROVED DVI conection! My new Gateway 56" DLP has DVI also. I hooked up the new DVD player using the Y componte conections in the same input on my TV to prove witch one was casuing the black screen! There was NO signel drop out NO black screen with the Samsung in the Y componet input on my new gateway DLP TV, NOW I can say for sure the problem is in the Bose or cross over whire to use the Y componet. ( rember I said before, drop it down to s vidio on the media center and it will play with no black screens outs) well hope this helps you Bill

Lifestyle Sucks.......2003-10-23
I bought one of these in Hawaii and it kept giving me problems..I changed the tuner twice. After I moved to Atlanta, it had to be repaired every 2 years..Often it would not play in my house but would play ok in the store..Very strange..I dont think I will buy overpriced Bose stuff again..Now I have a JBL unit which works wonderfully..
Bose [problems].......2002-09-02
I bought a system in Hawaii and the tuner kept giving me trouble. After two replacements, it ran well for about 3 years. Then it started becoming unreliable - it would play for a while, then shut off after a while... ...I am now abandoning it and looking for a new system..my recommendation, buy bose components but dont buy the whole system..its also not easily replaced piece by piece with other products..
A great system.......2002-06-05
After conducting research into home theater systems, and checking out various speakers, receivers, pre-amplfiers, amplifers, and reading the trade magazines, I finally concluded that the Bose Lifestyle 35 is what I wanted, and after listening to it now for several weeks, I am very happy I got it. The home theater surround sound is awesome -- I have a large room with high ceilings, and the sound completely fills the room with no distortion. My audio CDs have never sounded better.
I chose the system primarily because of the ease of use, the small jewel cube speakers don't overwhelm my room, and the sound they produce is great. The fact that the DVD player is not a progressive player is not significant -- current progressive DVD players do not improve the picture noticeably. If you really want true high definition, even from a progressive DVD player, you really need a line doubler, which will run you $3,000. As for the lack of Pro Logic, that it old technology -- Dolby/DTS 5.1 is the future of surround sound, and in any event, the Bose system will convert any movie into surround sound, so Pro Logic isn't necessary.
A great system with one big flaw........2002-03-05
The sound produced is wonderful, the system is well thought through and delivers a full rich sound, by taking the bass out of the individual speakers and bringing it all from the "acoustimass" module Bose is able to bring amazing sound from very small speakers and the bass does not sound like it is coming from one source, but rather the bass comes at you from all over. Those of you like me, with small children in the house will appreciate the clarity of sound at lower volumes as well, another feature Bose attributes to the small speakers and separate bass.
But I mentioned a flaw:
The DVD player is not good enough for the system. For this money and for people who are looking to build a top notch home theater, not including a progressive scan DVD player is nearly unforgiveable.
Stay far...far....away!.......2002-02-20
First of all I am not a very big audio file. But I know good sound when I hear it. When I tested the Bose Lifestyle 35 I thought "hey it's Bose...it has to be good". And it was...to a certain point. The Lifestyle uses the Accoustimast(sp?) speakers and subwoofer, with a built in DVD player/CD player/mp3/AM FM Tuner all built into one system that is upgradeable for life. Sounds like a good thing right? Well yes and no. First off I do give it semi-high marks on producing good movie surround sound. Maybe 3.5 stars. But this system does not have Dolby Pro Logic, or Pro Logic 2. It does use DTS and Dolby Digital, but I did not realize that it was missing these two surround options. Why is this a big deal? Well most if not all A/V recievers have both of these options. (For a fraction of the price)
Now why does my 3.5 stars get dragged down to 1? Because the music produced through these speakers absolutely stinks! It is so terrible that I wanted to cry. Some of my best CD's were ruined when playing it through this system! (The sound that is) I saved long and hard for this system and I personally failed myself in not testing this system musically when I bought it. The speakers DO NOT produce any bass effects at all. It all is transferred through the subwoofer. A very bad idea on Bose's part.
Trust me you can spend literally 1000 dollars less and get a system that totally kicks this Bose system to smitherines. I ended up taking this back and getting Polk Audio LSi7 main speakers(700 dollars), Polks RT 25i rear speakers(150), Polks CS245i Center Channel(250), Polk PS350 subwoofer(350), Yamaha RX-V620 receiver (500), and a Yamaha CD-685 5 disk cd player(150). Total Spent 2200 after tax. And I could have scaled this down more to fit an even tighter budget. Search the web a little to find more on Bose. I wish I would have researched a bit more before causing myself this headache.

Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you're a sports fan, movie fanatic, or news junkie--or some combination of the three--you'll be amazed at the picture quality and feature set offered by Philips' 55-inch 55PW9383 widescreen projection television. This high-definition set is capable of producing crisp, nuanced HDTV signals in all their glory: full 1080i resolution via a digital set-top box (not included). Progressive-scan DVD players are also prime source components for this set; display format upconversion makes sure you're seeing the best image possible, regardless of the source. The 55PW9383 was designed and constructed with the latest projection technology for rich, seamless presentations--and it goes a long way toward handling your home-theater audio requirements, too.
Philips' 35-point convergence brings with it the accuracy of digital technology for flawless convergence of red, green, and blue electron guns and a superb picture with no colored haloes. Philips HD Optics produces detailed HD resolution through cutting-edge processing and display technology, including a wideband video amplifier, micro phosphor CRTs, hybrid projection lenses, a first-surface mirror (for more direct light transmission), and the set's fine-pitched lenticular screen. A feature called Auto IntelliSense Focus automatically adjusts picture convergence at the push of a button.
If a video image remains stationary, it can eventually burn a permanent after-image into the screen. Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC) periodically shifts your television picture in increments that are tiny, but still large enough to blur image retention. Active Control performs continuous picture analysis and maintains control of Automatic Digital Noise Reduction and auto sharpness. A three-line digital comb filter gives you Improved chroma/luminance separation over standard two-line glass comb filters for a difference you can really see.
Eye Fidelity gives you a choice between two different scanning techniques: progressive and interlaced scanning. Progressive scanning doubles the number of visible picture lines per field by displaying all picture frame lines at once, eliminating line flicker. Interlaced mode reduces annoying motion artifacts and helps smooth jagged lines sometimes seen on images of curved and angled surfaces.
The set's double-window, dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature splits the screen into two independent halves, letting you do everything from watching two shows simultaneously to watching one while surfing the other, or scanning channels while keeping an eye on video input one, two, or three.
The set uses two-way stereo speakers and also features an auto volume limiter to minimize drastic level changes between, say, a TV program and its commercials. A center-channel speaker input lets you use the set as a center--no bulky or costly center-channel required--and a rear-panel subwoofer output makes it easy to hook up a powered sub for deeper-than-deep bass effects or low-end musical authenticity.
A 10-watts-per-channel sound system offers both Virtual Dolby Surround and Incredible Surround, processing circuitry that produces the sensation of surround sound without the hassle of installing additional rear speakers.
Other connections include three each composite- and S-video inputs, two component-video inputs (one HD, one standard), and a DVI direct digital input for use with a compatible DTV set-top box or other DVI device. A set of audio/video outputs lets you integrate the TV with your stereo or surround receiver, and a set of side-mounted AV inputs simplifies hookup of a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR.
The 55PW9383's protective screen filter helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate front lenticular screen.

Great Big HDTV!! This thing is huge. Great picture........2004-05-30
Well this wasn't my first HDTV of choice. I originally ordered Toshiba 51h83 51 inch Widescreen from Amazon. After 3 weeks they backordered, then the next day they cancelled my order for this product has been discontinued. I wasn't happy about it at all, because I was getting that TV for $1396.00 and that included shipping. Now it was time to start shopping again. I am so happy I had a chance to buy this Philips TV. This thing is a beast at 55 inches. The HDTV picture is incredible. Even playing VHS tapes off my VCR produces a great picture. I haven't hooked up a progressive scan DVD player to it yet, it is due to arrive in a few days. I am sure it will produce nothing less than a great picture. I am also into sound and I have not hooked my surround reciever up to it yet. I have been using the TV audio and it is great. This TV will overwhelm you with all it feature and size. I would tell anyone shopping for a Widescreen HDTV to concsider this one. You won't be dissapointed.
