Product Description

The Wave music system reproduces one-half octave lower musical notes and delivers even greater clarity and definition than the original Wave radio/CD. With its deeper tones and even more lifelike sound, you might just feel like you're sitting in the front row. Inside, our new proprietary waveguide speaker technology combines with other Bose technologies to deliver enhanced performance at all listening levels. You'll hear the same clear musical nuances whether you turn the volume up or keep it soft. You'll also enjoy the full depth and range of every vocal or instrument on MP3s, CD-R/RWs, and conventional CDs. Listen to CDs created on your computer and take advantage of the digital MP3 format for hours of uninterrupted Wave music system quality sound. The Wave music system was engineered to be delightfully easy to use. There are no visible buttons. Instead, the entire system is completely and conveniently controlled by a credit card-sized remote control. And setup couldn't be easier. The CD player, digital AM/FM tuner, amplifiers and speakers are all built-in so you can enjoy quality sound right out of the box. The large, bright display panel is easy to read and understand, prominently displaying the artist, title and album names of your suitably encoded MP3 CDs. It's also easy to enjoy the system's full, rich sound with your TV, VCR, DVD player, or computer, thanks to an auxiliary input jack. And if you want to keep the music to yourself, you can simply plug your headphones into the headphone jack. The Wave music system may look familiar, but it takes the original award-winning design of the Wave radio/CD to new levels. With its absence of buttons and a convenient slot-loaded CD player, the slim, sleek profile shines through to complement just about any room. You'll also enjoy more options for placing your system where its distinctive design looks best. That's because the speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent interference from TVs or computer monitors.

3 out of 5 stars After years of wanting...........2007-09-09

...a Bose Wave Radio, I finally invested in it only to be very disappointed. Unless you are a fan of heavy bass, this is not worth the money. The higher range is muffled and flat. Certainly not what I expected for $500. Aside from that, the CD player has no memory, no auto repeat, and the radio has no search or scan function. It bothers me that the only way to play the thing is with the itty bitty remote control which will probably be lost by the end of the week. I have 30 days to buy it or return it. Right now, I'm leaning toward returning. I'm so sad.

2 out of 5 stars Expensive and NOT worth it.......2007-07-07

I must be the only one that sees the Bose as an overpriced system. Let me state that this decision is not based upon a one time adventure with the system -- I've tried it several times.

The first time was in a chain electronics store. The sound was muddled and lacking bass until I cranked it up. At that point, it sounded decent but the volume was so high it really wouldn't have been appropriate in the house unless I was stone cold deaf (no insult to the hearing impaired). Worse yet, the credit card size remote used for the display already had a cracked surface -- typical for the "bubble" style of remotes. For $500 I expect and demand better.

My second time was at a Bose store in southern Florida. Mind you, this is a store that is acoustically designed for the best possible sound. This system sounded even worse in the Bose store! It lacked clear tones and voices sounded like somebody was talking through a pipe. I even fooled around with tone settings and either got booming bass that disrupted the music or horrible treble settings that made singers sound like they were on helium. After close to an hour of fooling around with the system I walked out.

Worse yet, the system is cheaply made of plastic and feels like cheap plastic. C'mon, Bose! Even Boston Acoustics using thick, high quality, plastic and Kloss/Tivoli uses furniture grade woods. Their systems are mono, sound better, and are better built. Oh, not to mention about $350 cheaper!

2 out of 5 stars When it's good it's very very good - When it's bad it's horrid.......2007-06-20

Our experience when seeing a Bose radio in someone's home was a it was a status symbol. The Mercedes of radios. Then we had an epiphony, and realized Bose owners rarely, if ever, were enthusiastic enough to say..... "sit down, wait till you listen to this!" Now we know why - we bought one.

Yes, there are divotees of Bose compact sound systoms. Many here gave it 5 stars. It makes me wonder what radio they were comparing it to.

Someone below said the AM reception was good. Our experience was just the opposite. When I worked in Manhattan, on September 11th, I purchased a small Sony so I'd know what was happening as I walked over the 59th St. Bridge. That picks up AM reception better than the Bose.

If you like base, you'll be thrilled. Remember, there are no adjustments for tuning. We found it very unforgiving - many CDs resulted in excellent results, others played worse than on our portable CD player!

Yes, the Body is sleek and impressive, but not worth the money spent to have one. Are you paying for the looks of a radio or it's quality? Ever meet an attractive man or woman who had no substance inside? That's the Bose.

I'm in full agreement with others who had problems with the CDs playing or not playing. At times it would stop, other times the player would skid across the CD. We sent it in for service and it came back to do it again.

Had we done research, read reviews, the Bose never would have been purchased. Their Marketing technique for years has pursuaded people who never heard one before to spend hundreds of dollars only to be disappointed.

We sold the radio at auction and did homework on the next one to buy. The results were that Boston Acoustics, Tivoli - Kloss and Cambridge were far superior. Now we have a Tivoli Kloss that blows away the Bose.

In closing, my husband is a musician and has an ear for quality in reproduced sound.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Sound.......2007-06-09

I just bought this machine and it is amazing.....the cd they give you to try out the sound is just awesome. It's so incredible the great sound at every level that comes out of that little unit. When you turn it up there is no distortion at all. Best decision I have made. We live in a small house and wanted something to play cd's but no big boxy unit....this fits the bill perfect.

2 out of 5 stars 1 year warranty inadequate for a clock radio at this price........2007-06-03

The sound is very good for its size...but for 500 dollars I would expect at the very least a TWO year warranty. The auto disc insert/eject is just asking for trouble. How would you feel if the disc starts to "skip" one day after the first year?

My preferred alternate solution is to buy a Bose Concept 2 pair of speakers (100 dollars) and attach a cheap (i.e. disposable) portable cd/mp3 player to it.

3 out of 5 stars Could be better.......2007-06-29

My fiance and I received this item as a gift. We already own the Wave music system. As always the sound from Bose is exceptional. However, we are very dissapointed with the mechanical noise made by the cd changer. It also has trouble sometimes when trying to read MP3 or WMA cd's. Disappointing considering the cost of the item.

3 out of 5 stars this is a funny product .......2007-04-20

I buy relatively cheap audio equipment, so I'd never given too much thought to the Bose company before. Then, last week, I was looking for computer speakers at Target and happened to test the Bose Companion 3 against a bunch of other speaker systems that cost up to 5 times less, but which were nevertheless superior to the Bose speakers. It suddenly flashed through my mind that I'd been exposed to many millions of dollars of Bose advertising in my life--magazine and newspaper ads, infomercials, billboards. By god, I was ready to enter the advertising business at that point, because advertising works!

Instead, I just went home and wrote a one-star review of the speakers.

Today, I decided to go back to Amazon and admire my savage evisceration of the product. What actually caught my eye, though, were all the typos and mispellings. Then I started looking at other Bose products, including this oddly shaped CD player. More investigation revealed that it is shaped like an expensive compact stereo Bose sells. Bose customers, I realized, not only will pay $250 for notably bad computer speakers, they will pay $250 for a 3 CD changer because it is in the same shape as another expensive product. My admiration for this company grows.

I have a Sony bookshelf stereo that holds, get ready for this, a whopping 60 CDs, and I got it for $150. It's loud, and it sounds pretty good. But it's not classy like this strangely-shaped CD player or the expensive radio it goes with.

Now I realize the reason I have suddenly developed an aversion to Bose products: I lack class.

Three stars to the oddly-shaped CD changer for class.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best system out there.......2007-03-16

I have to say that the sound is impeccable, however the noise it makes when changing discs makes me want to send this player back. I just got it, but I am having second thoughts. I bought this player specifically for my son who has autism. I love that it has no buttons and so he can't really break anything or take out the CD. However, the noise of the CD change wakes him up every time ..How disappointing to put so much into the sound of the music and so little into the mechanical aspects. The sound quality is amazing though.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent accessory for Bose Wave cd player.......2007-03-08

I bought this item to accessorize my Bose Wave II cd player and just love it's fascinating design. The multi-cd changer acts as the pedestal for the Wave II player. Yes, it is rather noisy when changing discs but sound quality is excellent and it does not take up extra space. Even the disgruntled reviewers need to give Bose the credit for the ultra-modern design which does not clutter up your entertainment. Thumbs up for another great Bose product!

4 out of 5 stars Order the extra remote! .......2007-02-12

My sister and I purchased this for our father for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it. One issue I have with it is the COMPLETE lack of manual controls, you are utterly reliant on the remote, and the remote is tiny. I ordered a second remote in the larger size, which is much easier for my parents to read without searching for the reading glasses. But the unit sounds like a dream and has worked just perfectly. So, order the extra remote, best to have one on hand just in case you lose one or the dog eats one (yeah, our dogs like electronic remotes, if they can find them), it's well worth the small amount of extra $. With no manual controls on the unit, you're better off having a spare!

Product Description

At first glance, you might wonder how much sound could possibly come from a music system about the size of a briefcase. And then you turn it on? The Acoustic Wave music system will thrill you with sound equal to that of a large stereo system. The only differences are its compact size, sleek design, versatility, portability and the innovative Bose technologies that have made this system a popular audio solution for many music lovers. When you hear the concert-like sound and consider the many possibilities this music system offers, you'll understand the reasons for its popularity. Equipped with a CD player and high-performance stereo tuner with 5 AM and 5 FM presets, the Acoustic Wave music system gives you an opportunity to hear your favorite music again for the first time. If you'd like to know how the Acoustic Wave music system produces sound that seemingly defies logic, you don't have to look any further than the name itself. It is all made possible by the patented acoustic waveguide speaker technology, featuring an 80-inch waveguide chamber wrapped inside the enclosure. The chamber amplifies sound just as a flute amplifies a small breath of air, resulting in a stunning audio experience. And whether you choose to raise the volume to window-rattling levels or leave it low for peaceful ambiance, the fine-tuning is done for you. The system's integrated signal processing automatically adjusts tonal balance so you hear natural sound and full bass at any volume.Controlling your Acoustic Wave music system is a snap. The credit card size remote operates most functions of the system so you barely have to lift a finger. External sources such as TVs or VCRs can also be added to the music system, bringing Bose sound to your favorite shows and movies. And if you'd like to take that sound to the park, the beach or most anywhere music is enjoyed, you can convert the system to a portable unit - and even expand its capabilities - with a complete line of accessories.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Does not even merit a 1 star rating!! .......2006-06-11

I have to start by saying that I was completely open minded about this product, if not leaning toward the positive before purchasing because BOSE Stereo speakers actually sound very good.
I can say without reservation that I was shocked by the EXTREMELY poor quality sound of this system. I literally could not believe my ears....I thought perhaps I had not adjusted the sound properly, but no, THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE SOUND!! No treble, no bass, no midrange, no loudness...nothing....just a flat, tinny, plastic portable unit with no bass, harsh treble and nothing to recommend it. The sound quality is equal to about a $200 boombox...I am not exaggerating...it's that bad.
After speaking to a few knowledgeable audiophile friends of mine they agreed and said that the reason BOSE has sewn up the market is obviously because of hype and advertising, and because most people do not have good ears. It appeals to these people because of the ease of use....all you have to do is plug it in! Everything sounds the same....over compressed flat mush!!
I just want to warn you....this is a major disappointment if you love music....and even if you only want to use for background music...it's not worth the price.
There is one positive. They gave me a complete refund.

5 out of 5 stars BOSE STANDS BY THEIR PRODUCTS - WORTH THE $$.......2006-05-11

Anybody who says that this system is too much money is crazy. I recently replaced my old acoustic wave system which I owned since 1984!! 20 years? that's right. not only that, but I called Bose to ask if I could send my old one for repair - they offered to upgrade my old system for a brand new one for 50% off the price! if that isn't standing by your products, then what is? not to mention how good this system sounds and performs. I will always recommend this product highly and will continue to be a loyal Bose customer.

4 out of 5 stars Great sound, but lacking features for the price........2006-02-13

I bought this system for my Mom some years back because I wanted her to have great sound with a no fuss, non-techie interface. It definitely delivered those. As can be expected from Bose, the sound was totally amazing. Especially considering the size of the unit it was coming from. I comes pre-equalized delivering deep bass you can feel and well balanced, spacious treble. My Mom is really into Classical music and every cd we threw in sounded awesome. The ultra-thin, credit card sized remote was also a total crowd pleaser. Very simple and intuitive, even for the technically challenged. I had struggled for years to teach my Mom the wonders of the personal computer but she took to this Bose really quickly and started to appreciate great sound.

The good:
- amazing sound
- super easy interface that delivers great sound everytime with minimal effort
- great handles and light weight make it easy to carry from room to room
- very easy to understand remote

The not so good:
- single cd. Now Bose offers a base attachment that comes with a 5 disc changer. However, at the time the single cd was a huge drawback. Also, the unit could not read MP3 cds. Cutting edge sound, just not a cutting edge cd player. At the time, you also had to purchase a base attachement if you wanted to connect the RCA jacks bringing sound from a VCR, DVD player, or an MP3 player. I couldn't see spending more money for a clunky, external MP3 player, plus the Bose base to be able to connect it. That would defeat the purpose of the easy interface if my Mom had to be fiddling with the MP3 player. Which brings me to my next point...
- the price. These now top out at nearly $1400 with the 5 disc changer, $1100 with just a single cd capacity. Quite a bit to pay but I imagine it caters to the similar demographic as Apple computers once did. A bit of a hefty price tag, but I suppose products that are attractively designed, super easy to use and mostly deliver great quality cost a little extra. It did sting a little thinking what an amazing component stereo system I could put together for $1400 (with Bose speakers, of course) but that would be a bit more complicated to interface with, right? I don't know that anybody who this system would be perfect for would care about what a tech savvy individual would consider "technical limitations". My Mom certainly didn't seem to mind. Which brings me to...

If you can afford one, it is the perfect gift or purchase. It definitely delivers amazing, large sound from a petite, portable unit with a simple, intuitive, no fuss interface.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect, big sound for a small apartment. .......2005-12-05

I have had this system for a couple of years now and I am not looking back.
I added a Sennheiser DSP 360 processor to give the system virtual digital surround sound for television and DVDs, just to give an extra pop, but it isn't a necessary add on.
Despite that little fix, the system is perfect. The sound is remarkable.
I have several snobby audiofile friends who scoffed when I first mentioned I bought this system. But when watching television (especially digital cable with it's exceptional audio channel) or a DVD, or listening to a CD, either through the DVD player on the included CD player, all of my friends have remarked how great the sound is.

5 out of 5 stars Big Sound - Small Package.......2005-11-01

Sound: This system produces some truly remarkable sound. The box is the size of your average boom box but sounds more like your full blown home stereo. The separation and spatial qualities are right up there with home speakers placed feet apart. The sound reproduction is clean with crisp highs and "thumpy" bass. The RCA jacks on the rear of the unit make connecting an i-Pod easy utilizing a $5 cable.

Design: Looks more like a piece of art than a "boom-box". There are no controls on the front to clutter up the look so the unit accents your bookshelf or refrigerator. The ease of use is unbelievable, the control buttons are all on top, clearly labeled and laid out. The operating instructions are almost superfluous!

Interesting Feature: works on 100-220 volts, take it worldwide!

    Amazon.com Product Description

The Philips AJ393517 stereo CD clock radio is loaded with features that will ease you into the beginnings and endings of your day. The dual alarm can be set for two different wake-up times, and you have the choice of waking up to your favorite CD, radio station, or beeper melodies. No matter what your preference is, the gentle-wake feature will gradually increase the volume to ensure a gentle and certain awakening.

The minimum and maximum alarm volume can be set to your requirements. In addition, when waking to CD, the silent CD alarm start wakes you to the sound of music instead of to the sound of the CD drive searching for the right track. The track is already preselected and ready to play.

Still need a few extra minutes of sleep before starting your day? Then press the repeat alarm, which switches the alarm off for nine minutes. The 24-hour alarm reset eliminates the need to manually reset the alarm after each use by automatically resetting the alarm function for the same time on the next day.

The weekend sleeper function makes sure that either one or both alarm functions are switched off during the weekends. This clock radio has a self- powered backup. In case of an interruption in power, the clock will hold the current time and the alarm settings for three minutes. With the sleep/slumber feature, you can listen to music while falling asleep without the worry of having to turn off the radio. 1 out of 5 stars Does Not Play CDR's.......2006-01-15

This will be a terse review as all that needs to be said is that this unit does not play CDR's without skipping & jumping through songs. That's all I have to say about that.

1 out of 5 stars Great features, but not a good alarm!.......2004-01-06

When I first bought this alarm clock, I loved it. I had returned six or more alarm clocks from the place I bought them because they were all lacking in fundamental features in one way or other. (Who wants to wake up to track 1 of a CD every time, really??!? Please Timex, hire some decent product developers!)

So when I got this home, I was thrilled. I love the weekend sleeper, the alarms which can be set completely independently (including two separate CD tracks), and the built-in self-recharging backup battery!

I even love the CD failover, when it works - if there's no CD in the drive, the alarm kicks in instead. The problem is, sometimes the CD will spin up and fail to play. I don't know why, it just sits and spins for 2 hours and doesn't play. But the alarm doesn't kick in either. So as an alarm clock, it's been a complete failure on several occasions. Like this morning. That's why I'm looking for a new alarm clock/cd player today.

Oh, and if you turn the volume more than 2/3 of the way up (it's a very loud player, very nice), the CD will skip. A lot. Why don't they take a cue from the portable CDs and build anti-skip in? I don't know.

    2 out of 5 stars Button positions.......2003-11-23

This would be a good alarm clock, escept for the button positions. For some reason the designer put the 24hour alarm reset button right next to the small snooze button. Everytime I tried to press snooze and get a few more minutes of sleep, I turned the alarm clock off.

In the end I bought a funky rooster alarm clock with a huge snooze button and a chinese accent. It's weird, but it works great. This one has been relegated to the garage.

It's a good radio; it's a good CD player; it's a good clock; it even looks cool, but it' not a good alarm clock.

5 out of 5 stars VERY VERY VERY GOOD DEAL!!!.......2003-02-19

I got the stereo today and I LOVE IT! The size is a bit big for a desktop radio, but the sound is crisp and clear. I like the fact that Philips added a bright backlight feature, which displays the time. If you're looking for a good cd/clock/radio, look no further!

4 out of 5 stars My Mom Likes It.......2002-01-04

We got this for my mother to use as an alarm clock, and she raves about it. If you are looking for serious gear, this isn't it. However, it's got some volume and some sound. We used it to listen to the various Christmas CD while cooking dinner, and no one ever complained it wasn't loud enough. Definantly recommend as an alarm clock or for something to listen to around the house.
