A little heavy on the bass (which is not adjustable) but a good option for a small space or an area where you don't want a lot of bright LEDs. The controls are intuitive and the design works very well in our kitchen.

THIS is how a clock-radio should be!.......2007-04-23

I bought this primarily as an alarm-clock-radio, so sound quality was not my main concern. So why did I shell out a hundred bucks for an alarm clock?
- It has a proper user interface! To set the alarm I press one button and turn one knob (has acceleration) to choose the time. Period!
- When it wakes me in the morning and I don't feel like getting up, which seems to be most of the time, snooze is ten minutes, much better than the usual 7, and pressing snooze multiple times adds 5 minutes per press so I can really sleep in!
- The sound quality is excellent. I hesitated before buying because many reviewers complained about too-heavy bass, or bass distorting male voices. It sounds alright to me. If you do find the bass too strong plugging the bass reflex hole on the back reduces bass noticeably.
- The display has just the right brightness on the lower setting. Viewing angles are excellent.
- Auxiliary input is good to have in case I need it one day.
- Dual alarms useful for couples or if you need waking from your afternoon nap.
- Rarely used buttons are hidden under a flap.
- I believe the clock problems mentioned by early reviewers have been resolved.
- No battery required for battery backup, but see major flaw below...
Downsides:
- In case of power failure an internal battery keeps the time and your settings, BUT THE ALARM WILL NOT SOUND. Can you say "missed flight"? NOT GOOD.
- High price.
- The snooze button should be larger and placed closer to the front.
- Large size.
This is definitely a 5-star product, but the battery backup flaw forces me to give only four.

A marvel of ergonomic design, but ..........2007-01-10

This is a beautifully designed radio with well-thought-out, intuitive controls. It is a pleasure to look at and to use. However, its boomy, unnatural bass range is a disappointment in a relatively high-end radio. At this price point, surely one might expect, if not accurate bass sound, at least a tone control. We might well have returned this had we not read a reviewer's suggestion to stuff the port with cotton, which reduced the boom to a tolerable level.

Excellent bedside radio.......2006-11-25

We had been looking for a radio for our bedroom for a while. Our pervious radio had difficulty receiving AM radio broadcasts. I prefer to awaken to talk radio rather than music so AM reception was a big issue. We had purchased s couple of brand named radios and none could pick up the AM station we listened to. I finally purchased the BA Recepter and was amazed that it locked onto the AM station immediately and never faltered.....even in the late evening hours when many stations reduce power.

The sound of this radio is very pleasing. The talk stations are pleasant and very clear. Music from this radio is very nice too. The bass is ample and the sound is very full and musical. The controls are very easy to use and the battery backup is a nice feature in the event of a power failure. There are no adjustments for treble or bass...so if you like to tinker with sound adjustments, this radio may not be right for you. I found the factory setting to be quite nice. The radio also includes a wire antenna that may be unrolled to improve FM radio reception. We let our's fall behind the nightstand and the radio picks up all our local FM stations with no problem.

The only downside to this radio is the illuminated display. It can be very bright in a dark room and may take some getting used to.

We have since bought another one of these models for our kitchen and I am considering the BA Microsystem as we would like to have the ability to listen to CD's...although I hear that here are some serious issues with the reliability of the CD player.

This Boston Acoustics Recepter mono AM/FM clock radio comes in an attractive white color in a simple styling that will blend easily with most bedroom decors. It has a patented AM/FM digital tuner with 20 tuner presets for AM/FM stations, dual wakeup alarms, sleep timer, adjustable snooze, LCD display with dimmer, and a memory backup. It also sports an attached 4-foot FM wire antenna and a built-in AM antenna. The necessary three "AAA" batteries are included (even though it plugs into the wall, you must also have batteries) along with a 96" AC power cord. The patented tuner can find weak FM stations and its low distortion allows you to differentiate stations without static. This radio's LCD display shows clearly the station, time, and alarm/sleep mode.

You can go to sleep to pleasant bass music and then wake up to nice bass music. The radio's sleep timer can be set to play the radio for a preset amount of time, then shut itself off. The sleep timer can be set for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 minutes. This clock radio has two wake-up alarms which can be set to music, to the buzzer, or to both. Music can be sounded first, followed later by the buzzer which gets gradually louder until you switch it off. It is nearly impossible for someone who is not hearing-impaired to oversleep! The snooze button will stop the alarm for 10 minutes. If you double-click the snooze button, you can add another 5 minutes to the snooze time, up to 60 minutes.

In short, this is a clock radio built for lovers of bass music. And it's priced for everyone. In addition, Amazon has deals on this radio that you can't find in most retail stores. I am happy to recommend this very nice clock radio.

Pretty good deal........2003-10-19

I agree with the reviewers who feel these Lexars are not made to withstand very rough treatment, but they're not all that flimsy either. I find them absolutely wonderful for transporting documents from home to work. We've also use them to copy albums of digital pictures and of course to share (fully licensed) MP3s.
However, both the 64 & the 128 meg models are not USB 2.0 enabled, so the speed needed to make the latter two tasks really easy with these models is not available. I'd suggest buying either this 64 meg model for text applications or going to the 256 meg model for pics or music files.

Actually I rate it with no Star Rating...........2007-06-12

Oregon Scientific is a rip off. I wanted to purchase the VR-399 on March 11, 2006 and it was out of stock. I just recently received an email on June 8,2007 that states that the product was available for purchase. Well I visit the website to see if it was the same product at the same price which was $19.95 and it was. Then next day I decided to purchase it and the price went from $19.95 to $39.95 . I called Oregon Scientific in regards to this issue and they told me that the price was not negotiable. I then called the corporate office and they told me the only thing that they can do is give me a 10% discount. Thanks to the people here at Amazon you save me money and a headache to let me know that this Digital Voice Recorder is Garbage. Here is a copy of the original price....

VR-399 is not practice. "Play" key is very bad. Pause period is not enough. Battery life is short. Record quality is not bad but this product is not support windows xp (SP-2). If you're a journalist, It's not for you.

Waste of money.......2005-11-16

I bought this with the idea of having a portable reminder list. It is useless because it absolutely eats batteries. The instructions say to remove the batteries if you are not going to be using it for a week. This is because two AAA batteries only last about a week. I would carry it in my purse and everytime I reached for it--the batteries were dead.

Good features, acceptable sound quality..........2005-10-25

I bought this a couple days ago. It's small,convenient and has a large range of volume.
The only problem is its sound quality. I used it to record myself playing Harmonica. It doesn't sound real. I tried with different angles, but the sound remains too sharp.
Overall, it's too cheap to complain. It does worth the price.
If you're poor as I am, this may be your choice. If you want good sound quality, buy a more expensive one.

I got the recorder from J&R through Amazon yesterday. The quality of the recording is unacceptable. During conference recording, I cannot even hear what each person was talking about, even though all people were talking normally within a few feet from the recorder (with MIC sensitivity set to high).

The battery indicator shows that only half of it power is left after one day's use.

I have just returned it today. I have to pay the shipping both ways. J&R consider my return as a "Return of Choice", even though I told them that it is in fact a defective item (the noise made by the recorder itself is so loud that you can hardly hear the people's talking). Not recommended.

Think Twice before buying LaCie.......2005-11-21

I purchased a LaCie NAS drive from [...] approximately 18 months ago. The product had several shortcomings including the inability to back-up files that did not meet its highly restrictive file name rules. This turned out to be nearly half of my files. The documentation with the product was terrible. Now, 18 months later, the drive ceases to function and LaCie refuses to repair it because:

"Unfortunately, LaCie does not handle out-of-warranty repairs. It is
usually not cost effective to repair electronics since the price for new
drives has come down and the capacity has increased".

I can understand a response like this on a $99 product but not a $600 NAS. My advice: Don't buy LaCie!

I bought this TV to replace my 1980's 19" JVC that finally died and I love it (well sort of...). I first have to say that I have quite a number of JVC items, so it was natural that I look for another JVC. My wife insisted that the TV be no bigger than 20" so off I went to find a JVC that had multiple inputs (a feature I love about my 36") for my DVD and ReplayTV. it also had to have sleep settings (to turn the TV off, if we fall asleep) and possibly a headphone jack as our newborn son sleeps in our bedroom.

Here is what I like about the unit:
* Clean Picture - Flat Screen (excellent on Component)
* Very compact frame (height, width)
* 4 Inputs (coax, 2 rear (1 composite/S-Video, 1 composite/Component), 1 front (Composite)
* 1 Output (Composite/Stereo)
* Headphone Jack (stereo, like the TV)
* Sleep Timer, Clock Timer (On/Off)
* No buzzing like I read in the AV20F703 reviews (previous model)

What I don't like:
* You can't turn on/off the speakers like you can on the larger series
* The remote has all the right buttons for a TV/CBL/VCR/DVD, but the organization is poor ergonomically and it doesn't light-up or glow (but they were smart enough to include an eject button, a feature so often left off of multi-function remotes...)
* Menu is kind of clumsy for finding features (e.g. auto channel scan)
* Unit is still very deep (much deeper than my old 19"), which may spell trouble for those who want to put this in an amoire.

Overall, this unit has incredible features for a 20" TV, but could use some refinement by actual consumers.
Otherwise, this unit would get 5 stars from this JVC Fan.
