I have had the 6250 for about three years now and love it! Awesome range, very clear, nice and compact and was a great value. I agree with the other comments on wondering why they discontinued it. I love the scan feature, it even has an incomming signal strength meter that gives you a good idea of how close the other person/persons are. Very cool. I use the NOAA Weather feature often as well. Since I use it most often for hunting I have the ear bud and "push to talk button" accessory so as to keep transmission quiet. Just last week it took a 20' straight -down tumble out of my treestand and it never phased it (wheew)! Can't say enough - great radio! Don't hesitate if you find one for sale!! I should have bought 2.

Of all of products out there, this one is well made, has great sound quality, excellent reception, and small compact size without compromising performance. If you can find them on ebay or someplace else, buy them.

Too bad Motorola stopped making these, I wonder why. I am writing this review after two years of experience with this model as well as having used other brands and models of Motorola.

Motorola no longer builds this radio. Buy it used here if it's available. Motorola really blew it by not continuing to make this item. Cobra and Audivox quickly moved in to fill some of the voids left by the exit of this item from the market. Maybe Motorla thought it had other customer information on the features that most people want. The result: every other Motorola consumer 2-way radio, except for the t7200 (much more expensive), has fewer features, is much bulkier, and in most cases, inferior, to this unit. For example the t5950 has NOAA weather channels, but no alert for severe weather bulletins. Why take away such a basic complementary feature? I don't get it.

I preface this review by stating that I purchased this radio primarily for its weather radio feature (not many others have it) and I use it only on FRS channels so far.

This radio has an unparalleled wealth of useful features for its price. I have found the following features useful, and you'll have to pay more to get them on another radio.
--Voice scrambling: Good but it takes time to adapt to it.
--Scanning: An awesome feature; scans all 22 channels quickly.
--Weather radio: Excellent. I get three channels in the Chicago area.
--Range (FRS): In an outer-suburb setting you do get 2 miles.
--Vox: Hands free does work but it takes time to adapt to it.
--Batteries: Uses 3 AA batteries. Other manufacturer's comparable radios take 4 AAA, thus representing a bigger expense over time for batteries.
--Size: Comparable radios from other manufacturers are much larger than this unit.
--Shortcomings. Battery case does not seal totally, but it has not fallen off during my use. The PTT button is on the front, though it has not been as much of an inconvenience as I thought it would be.

I upgraded to this from the Motrola 5420 (sold in pairs), itself an excellent FRS radio. I have found this unit to be equal or superior in all comparable respects (except for the PTT button on the front, and battery lid sealing), and I have yet to upgrade its use to GMRS--the license costs $75.00 per household for five years.

I find this item to be small and compact. Light weight and easy to use. I love the weather station feature and the VOX hands free capability... without having to purchase an accessory! And the range, this is definitely NOT a kids toy. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the location of the "talk" button. Not that I have a better suggestion... but I think it's just a little awkward. But overall a great value for the money.

Great no-fuss automatic camera.......2006-09-15

I received this camera as a gift and have used it for many years. It is a nice simple camera if you don't want to fuss with focus and lots of settings. However, it does allow you to zoom in to your subject easily. Also has a macro feature--I got some great close-up shots of orchids on my honeymoon in Hawaii! It is also easy to load with film. You just put the film in, and it winds it up nicely. I am not a professional photographer and this camera was perfect for me.

Let's see, how can I say this diplomatically........ OK, here goes; this camera ..... The picture quality is poor, the sharpness of the images is poor. The flash on button sticks out so that when you put it in your case, or as in my wifes case, her purse, all it has to do is bump something and the flash gets turned on. It doesn't have a battery saver, so you may take one picture, put the camera away and when you get it out next time the batteries are dead. This has happened to us innumerable times in spite of our awareness of the problem. It's one of those things that gets you no matter how careful you are. I wouldn't buy one used even if it were dirt cheap. Other than that, it's a great camera.............

A Good Safety Investment.......2007-06-16

I bought the Oregon Scientific WR103NX to replace an Oregon Scientific WR102 weather alert radio that I never could get to work properly. The instructions can be a bit difficult to understand if you have have a hard time following written directions. For this reason, if the radio is being purchased for an elderly or handicapped person, I would recommend that another person program it for them. Once it is set, you are good to go. The "non-volatile" memory will temporarily preserve your settings if the batteries die.
The day I got my WR103NX, I set it up and a few hours later the alarm went off because a severe thunderstorm warning had been issued for the area. The alarm is very loud and WILL wake you from a sound sleep. So far, it has performed exactly the way it is supposed to. I would recommend this radio to anybody looking for a dependable weather alert radio.

I got mine refurbished from LaCie's cite, you can save about 100 dollars that way.

First, let me say something about external hard drives. Traditionally, they've been unable to boot from, and they're WAY WAY slower than an internal hard drive. Though its not possible to boot from a USB or Firewire external hard drive, even if you could, it would make Windows extremely slow.

Enter LaCie's eSATA external hard drive with PCI interface. Technically, it's not external (literally it is). But because it connects via SATA which connects via PCI, it is in essence directly connected to your motherboard. Meaning it doesn't have to go through the slow bus that USB and Firewire do.

This is the newest in external hard drive technology because it is as fast as an internal hard drive (Several times faster than USB and Firewire).

I got 2 of these because my 20GB internal drive was full of just programs, and I was running the files off of an external LaCie USB drive.

I cloned my hard drive onto the external, restarted, and in my BIOS changed the Hard Disk Sequence to select the LaCie (note, it won't say LaCie, it will say something like Maxtor or Seagate or something so you'll need to know your drive manufacturer's so you can tell them apart). I now boot externally, I reformatted my internal drive and am using it for storage. WOOHOO.

PROS: LaCie must have listened to its customer's or read it's complaints. LaCie's previous hard drives got too hot. Not so with the d2. Made of vented aircraft aluminum, this drive stays cool to the touch for hours on end... it might get room temp or slightly higher, but not the blazing hot temps that gave reason to complain before.

SPEED... try 1500Mbps interface from a 7200RPM drive. Sure, a USB or firewire might also run on a 7200RPM drive, but its pointless if your info is bottlenecked to 200-400MBps transfer at the bus, no to mention any slowing from your processor or other running programs.

Looks: Good design, 2 positions to stand it, looks good.

Runs: As fast as my former hard drive. It now is my central drive.

Truly the external drive to have if your need internal speed with external conveniance.

It may cost 30=40 dollars more than your typical external, but you gain several times the speed of thost drives as well.

You should have a free PCI slot to instal the PCI card that comes with this drive.

Finally, LaCie gets it right! A+

Enjoying a phone that works!.......2007-08-24

My family already owned four of these phones in my house and loves them. My sister recorded her own voice so when they ring my parents know its her. I bought one because of the long battery life and compatibility to the other phones in the house. There are newer versions of this phone which have the color and a little more flare but personally I do not need the bells and whistles in a phone.

I have had these phone hand sets for over 10 years but the 2 that are used the most started giving us trouble with the key buttons. I did not want a new phone system and looked for new ones in the store but they do not sell this kind anymore. I was real happy that I found them on Amazon. I put the old ones in the house where we could still use them but not often and replaced them with the new hand sets. Each handset works off the main station. All you have to do is plug the charger in a wall socket for each handset. You only need one phone connection for the base. I now have 6 handsets working in my home. Each one will hold 50 telephone numbers, has caller ID and can be used as an intercom between all the handsets. I love these phones and am so glad that Amazon had them.

I'm not thrilled, and I bought a bunch of them so I'd have a phone in every room, but they are big, clumsy, and don't always do what I ask them to. I liked my old ones better. Oh well. You live and you learn.

Vtech i5800 Series Phones good service at good price.......2007-07-10

I initially bought one phone and the one base station. Over the years I have added a couple of phones and have been very satisfied with reception, sound and ease of use of the phones. I would recommend the system to anybody. The extra phones work well either downstairs or out in the yard with little or no interferrence. Although I know there is higher tech stuff out their I am satisfied with this product for our needs.
