In order to handle large jobs and graphic intensive prints, the HL-5150DLT has a 133 MHz internal processor and 16 MB memory (upgradeable up to 144 MB).

You can connect to your computer via either the 1284 IEEE parallel (ECP) or USB 2.0 port, while automatic interface switching between the two allows you to print from either without having to unplug cables. Additionally, if you should need to upgrade, the HL-5150DLT has optional network capability, allowing you to print from any computer or device on your network.

Automatic duplex printing lets you easily create double-sided prints, while the interactive help feature helps you to navigate your printer's features and troubleshoot any problems that may arise. We did a lot of research prior to purchasing a laser printer and found this one to be less expensive - even than making copies. I'm enjoying the two tray option and use one of the trays for letterhead. The only issue I've had is that the software did not install correctly (parts of it installed in Swedish) and I had to request a patch. Brother's customer service is terribly poor - I waited on the phone for three hours without a response and then three days before I received an e-mail. The only part of the purchase I don't like about Amazon is that you don't see your order total until after you enter your credit card informaiton. Even though I know I have a chance to cancel, I appreciate a total prior to entering in my payment information.

Brother lasers are great for Linux.......2005-01-19

I'm a Linux-only user, so I can't say how well this printer works with Windows or Mac. However, it's a fine printer and I've had no problems with it on my Debian and Gentoo systems. I installed the PPD file that comes on the CD into my CUPS printing system and, voila, it just worked. I interface the printer through a Linksys print server running on my local network with no issues. The second tray and automatic duplex features work as advertised. The printouts are a little on the light side (esp. in toner saver mode naturally) but the quality is fine. Start up time when cold is about 10-15 seconds. Note that when using the PPD (Postscript) drivers you will want to buy the memory upgrade. Its around 50 dollars from online sources. If you don't you won't get anywhere near the advertised print speed unless you use basic HP Laserjet drivers, and those won't give you access to the printer's options (duplexing, resolutions, etc). My only complaint with this printer (and true of most in this price range) is the sparse control panel. When the front panel LED blinking light show starts you have no idea what the printer is trying to tell you until you read the manual (which only comes in PDF format on the included CD--no paper manual.) The Windows driver apparently has a Control Panel applet that reads printer status, but that isn't of much use in Linux or when the printer is networked. For the money though, this is one fine printer.

Pretty Good Monitor.......2004-12-28

This is a nice monitor and is made sweeter by the rebate deals that may be available to you.

If I were to caution on one point, it would be that you not get too mesmerized by the 12ms published response rate statistic when comparing this monitor with others. Yes, response rate is a hugely important statistic to check out when buying for use with games or video playback, but when shopping around, I found games were equally playable on some monitors where the published response rate was 16ms and in some cases even higher. At the same time, I found that the contrast on this monitor sometimes suffered when compared to playing video on the same other monitors.

I nice monitor for the price point, just don't buy it over another one simply for the "12ms" quoted. Look at the whole picture. I like this one though.

If you have the money for it and you want/need something extremely portable, here is the one. I'm a graphic designer in Denver Colorado and I got sick and tired of losing the little thumb drives (Flash drives) that were 512mb or 1 GB. They cost a little less than this HD. Its barely bigger than a wallet and gives you many options on how to move your documents. The coolest thing is that you DON'T need a power cord.

Small, plug and play on my mac, and works without external power. Very portable, and comes with cables that should allow you to use any interface.

Failed Twice.......2005-12-31

Over a year ago, I purchased this 40GB model and was very happy with it until a couple months ago when it died. Thankfully I had a recent backup. I thought it was just a bad coincidence that my drive had failed, so I got the 80GB model as a replacement. Now, after having it for less than two months, the drive completely stopped working. I have tried everything and cannot get a computer to read the disk.

I really want to like this drive. It is beautiful, easy to use, and otherwise worthy of 5 stars, but having two drives fail in the past two months is absolutely unacceptable. If you get this drive, make sure to backup your data constantly.
