Good Notebook, but Overpriced..........2003-09-16
I just bought the HIGHER VERSION OF THIS NOTEBOOK. (My review is pasted here in tandem)
I just bought this notebook a few days ago from fry's electronics. The MVA screen is beautiful to say the least. And, among the other notebooks on the retail market (IBM and Dell are not included here) the Fujitsu Lifebook has a good overall package.
However, there are downsides to it that might make you go to a Dell, which is what i'm going to do.
First, the fan in the Fujitsu is the noisiest fan among all the new notebooks on the market! You can hear it from 20 feet away, barely though. It does bother me sometimes because if you spend $2000, you expect some form of quality for god's sake!
The other problem i have been experiencing is with the optical pointer (the small square you use in place of a mouse). It has been freezing and moving in a choppy way, as opposed to a smooth movement. I even saw this behavior with the display unit at Fry's electronics.
Also, remember that Fujitsu has a fledgling service department and you most likely will not get the level of service that you expect from Dell or IBM.
My advice to you is, if you can wait a week or two, to buy a Dell Inspiron from www.dell.com (online). You'll get the most bang for your buck, and you'll get world class service and quality. I am most likely going to return this one and buy a Dell Inspiron for the same price, except the Dell has so many more positives (P4 3.06GHZ, 533MHZ fsb, PC2700 RAM speed!, and more).
no way to reformat.......2003-08-22
Fujitsu does not include recovery disks. Instead, you are expected to reformat/recover using the disk image stored on the computer. This takes up almost 1G memory. On my computer, the "image drive" had not been named properly. After several frustrating hours searching through FAQ files from the image drive developer, I discovered that the file was also corrupt. (The "documentation" from Fujitsu was a useless two paragraph blurb.)
Then, I paid for a call into Fujitsu only to be told that the computer had to be shipped back to the factory because there was no authorized dealer in the state. Somewhere along the way, either FedEx or Fujitsu techs dropped the computer. The LCD screen is now shattered. Replacement cost high
Spend the extra money and buy a Vaio or some other brand which is 1) supported locally and 2) doesn't use the ridiculous imaging system. I just did.

Great Little Notebook.......2003-09-23
Wonderful graphics on the screen. A bit cramped in the keyboard for my not-so-fat fingers. But inevitable given the compact size. Love the fact that a floppy disc drive is built in.

Nice Radio but not that powerfull.......2007-06-07
We purchased these radios for 2 reasons:
1) We wanted 2 radios with 2 separate chargers and this is one of the few sets with 2 separate docking chargers.
2) We wanted radios that had the same channels as my son's (6 yrs old) small radio.
So this met both of those needs.
The only problems I've had so far is it doesn't have as far a range as it says. All these radios are rated with a range in an open field with no obstructions. In a normal suburb these radios will have a range of about 1 to 1.5 miles because of trees. It didn't matter for us because we mostly wanted to use them around the house, but if you expect to go camping with these don't expect to be able to get too far away from one another.
The other problem is one of the chargers already blew out and I have to find out how to get it replaced.

always work, very easy to swift, fast and usb bus powered. I feel much safer with this drive. Nomore stress about "sharing" any data or forgetting a complicated password. LOVE IT.
Good idea but not ready yet, doesn't work, unreliable.......2005-11-20
I like other Lacie drives I've used very much, thought I'd take a chance on this, but it just does not work. It takes me about a hundred swipes on average to get the biometric sensor to work...That is keeping data a bit TOO secure to be helpful. Also there have been reports of complete data loss by others,but I've not had that experience - could be I just haven't been able to GET to my data enough to find out. Support from Lacie was completely unhelpful (wash your hands and the sensor before swiping which I have already done dozens of times was the only suggestion). If the drive could be partioned so you could have a secure partition and an easier to access partion, the failure of biometrics would not be so serious, but as is, I would definitely not purchase this again, and I would strongly advise against it unless there is some kind of firmware or other improvement.
