Customer Reviews:
Decent sync cable.......2006-11-28
I like the idea that it's retractable but it didn't fix my problem with the hot sync issue I thought I had. I think it's something in my palm but this item is compatable with the Zire 71 and would power it. It's a little bit of a tight squeeze to connect the cable to the palm but it works.
A wonderful aftermarket cable.......2006-09-02
I bought one of these for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the USB cradle that came with my Palm m130 has always been very finicky; unless the A/C adapter is plugged in just right, it won't recharge my m130, even though it sometimes appears like it is (the charging icon displays on the Palm, but immediately after disconnecting from the cradle the meter indicates the same charge level as before). Second, the bulky cradle and adapter are not much fun to travel with.
I almost settled on a replacement cradle, but balked at the cost versus the aftermarket alternatives. Eventually I decided to give this one a shot. I'm sure glad I did!
I've been using it daily for a handful of weeks, and it has proven to be very dependable. For whatever reason, the first few times I tried I couldn't get the m130 to sync to my computer; since then, it has worked every time. And it has been a very reliable charger all along.
I try to be very gentle with the cable. The wires are quite thin and fragile, so being careful is very important. In contrast, connecting the m130 to the connector requires a firm, but measured, approach. I have the best luck when I lay both on a flat surface and slide them together, making sure the m130 is firmly seated in the connector. (A very gentle side-to-side rocking motion will confirm whether both sides of the connector mated to the Palm correctly.) Come to think of it, the synchronizing problems I had at first might have been a connection issue; I can't be certain, though.
Overall, I am extremely pleased by my decision to purchase this cable. It fits my needs for reliability and portability. A brilliant gadget!
Palm m130 using Windows XP Home and Windows 98.......2005-02-19
It is up to the purchaser to determine whether his/her handheld device is compatible with the Zip-Linq.
Works perfectly with my Palm m130 using Windows XP Home and Windows 98 with Palm software already installed and running on both computers. Excellent for travel.
The Zip-Linq will not recharge the Palm battery as quickly as the Palm Cradle, and the computer must be turned on in order for the Zip-Linq to charge the Palm through the computer's USB port.
The Zip-Linq is somewhat fragile, so handle it carefully when inserting or removing it from the Palm. Also be gentle when extending or retracting the Zip-Linq cable.
If the purchaser buys the Zip-Linq cable to replace the original Palm cradle, there should be no glitches if he/she has already performed HotSync one or multiple times using the original Palm cradle. It SHOULD be as simple as replacing the original Palm cradle with the Zip-Linq cable.
One reviewer has indicated that his/her Palm data was lost the first time he/she attempted to use HotSync with the Zip-Linq. I'm not sure why this would happen if the Zip-Linq is compatible with the handheld in question, but one could always perform a HotSync with the original Palm cradle before using the Zip-Linq for the first time. Once the user gets comfortable with the device and its functionality, this precautionary measure should be unnecessary with future use of the Zip-Linq.
If the user inserts Zip-Linq into the USB port to run HotSync for the very first time (ie., initial install or reinstall of Palm software), Windows may not be able to read the Zip-Linq through the USB port initially. In the case of Windows XP Home, this writer believes this has nothing to do with the Zip-Linq cradle. Windows XP Home simply needs to find the correct driver from the Palm software in order to run HotSync through the USB port. When the Zip-Linq is inserted in the USB port, Windows XP Home may indicate that it has "Found New Hardware" and then prompt the user to allow the operating system to find the driver that will be used to read the USB port. XP may prompt the user to insert the Palm software CD so that it can find the right driver. This does not mean that Windows XP Home will reinstall the Palm software; it will simply look for the right file to run HotSync. It is a step-by-step procedure (ie., simple). In the case of Windows 98 and first use of HotSync, the operating system may not automatically be able to find the driver. In this case, it would be best to run HotSync on the original Palm Cradle before using the Zip-Linq.
Good travel cable, but NOT compatible with Tungsten C.......2003-10-22
Although this cable lists compatibility with Tungsten W and T, and it will charge a Tungsten C model, it will not sync with C models. This information is buried on the support pages instead of the compatiblity page of the manufacturer's web site. I would have given this 4 stars if they had disclosed this.
If it had worked with my palm, I would say that it is very compact and light weight. It is similar in size to a white board marker when reeled in. The cable isn't long at 30 inches, but usually that is enough. Highly recommended as a compact alternative to a cradle.
The plug where the usb connector is attached to the cable looks like it might not last forever cause the cable is so thin and you usually accidentally push on the connection when plugging in the cable. But if you want compact for travel or as a backup to IR this is the choice.

JAVOSync is an all in one portable solution to synchronize data and charge your device. Retractable design allows maximum mobility and clean non-tangled wires. JAVOSync does it all, its the perfect cradle replacement!
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful at the price.......2007-06-22
The JAVOSync does everything as advertised. In fact the connection to the Palm is superior to the Palm-branded sync lines. The sync button is solid - no worries about accidental syncs while you connect the cord or handle the TX. The only minor drawback is the retraction mechanism is just a little sticky - but does work.
Recommended INSTEAD OF A CRADLE for anyone who has a easily accessible powered USB hub. Good value for the money!

Customer Reviews:
Good-looking. Inexpensive. Intriguing operating method........2004-04-19
After some 15 years of use, my Sony Discman (of an early vintage, to be sure) bit the dust. While it was expensive when new (the price of my perpetually being an "early adapter"), by now it owed me nothing. So it was well past the time for me to be "off to seek a replacement."
It didn't take me long to decide on this Philips AX5210 CD player (satin chrome with dark blue trim; also available in satin chrome with red trim as the Philips AX5211 CD player). The Philips player is especially attractive and slim, taking up little more than the diameter of a CD and the thickness of a CD jewel box on my desktop.
The player works flawlessly and provides excellent sound to these modestly critical ears: I feed the output into both my Cambridge MegaWorks 210D self-powered speakers and my Bose TriPort headphones (both reviewed elsewhere at Amazon).
The player has some functional and ergonomic strengths and as well a few minor weaknesses. The controls for starting, indexing, pausing and stopping the player are conveniently located on the top surface, which also includes a full display for indicating running time (something the old Discman did not have). Volume adjustment for headphones is conveniently placed at the front of the player, as is the output jack for headphones and/or speakers. But the latch for opening the cover is somewhat inconvenient, and there is only one output jack, requiring a "Y" connector if one is to feed the output to both headphones and speakers. "As packaged" (in one of the more infernal blister packs I've ever encountered), the player does not include a power supply, requiring the additional expenditure of about seven or eight bucks for a "universal" power supply. But it does include two battery covers, permitting one to use either AA or AAA batteries (in pairs) if one is so inclined.
The operating principle-new to me and no doubt a consequence of the player being designed and constructed for wearing during activity-loads the signal into a memory buffer. The player will spin the CD for about 30 seconds, and then will let the CD coast to a stop while, for about 20 seconds, the buffered signal is fed to the output. This "start and stop" motion no doubt adds to battery life (not an issue for me) at the same time that it eliminates mistracking due to body motion while the player is being worn. Intriguing, to say the least.
I consider this player to be excellent in performance (and style and small "footprint"), even though it was necessary for me to add to it the additional expense of a "Y" connector and a power supply to account for the use to which I put the player. Others who use only headphones and batteries will have no such problems.
Bob Zeidler
I hate to say this, but..........2003-12-26
First, let me just say that, in general, I am a fan of Philips electronics. I had a Philips CD player for three years (before it was stolen) that gave me absolutely no problems, that played CD's perfectly without exception, and that gave me excellent sound and skip protection. As a matter of fact, it was the quality of that CD player (which is unfortunately no longer made) that convinced me to buy this one.
UNFORTUNATELY...this CD player gave me nothing but problems during the ONE MONTH that I was able to use it. The most glaring problem with it is probably the skip protection, which is very poor, especially at the beginning of songs. I could be standing perfectly still, holding the player upright in my hand...and it would STILL skip! I couldn't get over that.
Another big problem (which has already been mentioned by the reviewer who came before me) is that it EATS batteries ALIVE. You can use either two AA or two AAA batteries, but if you pick the AAA option, be prepared to change your batteries every five hours (at BEST, probably). The AA option is not much better; after only about half an hour of playing time, the battery indicator had already gone from 3/3 full to 2/3 full.
The sound isn't so great either. You get only one level of bass boost, and though I guess it sounds Ok, it doesn't even begin to compare with the quality of sound you get through the Sony Walkman.
So what's the kicker? Well, here it is: after only a month of using this thing, it suddenly will not read CD's anymore. That's right; it's just stopped. I've tried everything: switching CD's, switching batteries...EVERYTHING. As I write this review, I'm about to consult the warranty information to see if I can't get a refund for this piece of junk.
I'm very disappointed. What happened to Philips? Why did they take such a giant step backwards with this model? Yep; I stronly advise anyone and everyone to go for the Sony Walkman as opposed to this one. It's comparably priced and performs at a level that, quite simply, dwarfs this poor little thing. I hate to lash out like this...but it's the simple truth. If you're gonna buy this thing...BEWARE.
i like it.......2003-12-08
im not much of a freak on the technical stuff but i think this is a good cd player. too bad it does not play mp3 but its great for just cds. i have only one problem with this cd player....it eats batteries...
