Nice printer, another possible cleaning method.......2006-06-28

Hi,

I had streaky problems after a year or so, deep head cleaning etc.. didn't work. Was in the process of emptying the black cartridge so I could try the alcohol method. I was printing solid black pages of ink (using a black filled box in Microsoft Word), and found that after one of these pages, the problem had cleared itself up!

One other issue too - in duplex mode it prints black using the colour cartridge, I've updated the drivers etc... but it's still a problem. If you want to manually duplex, do it using the odd page / even page rather than duplex feature, unless you don't care about print quality / ink usage.

Nice printer. Good quality prints. Alternative head cleaning method........2006-06-17

I've had nothing but great results with this printer, but like most ink jets, after a year or two the print head clogs up and despite all the head-cleaning and deep-head-cleaning you do, the problem just gets worse. The nice thing about this printer is that the print head is removable, and so this allows for some creative head cleaning methods that you can't always do with other printers. Randy K's method is very nice, and here's an alternative that worked well for me. Remove the ink cartridges and then the print head. Run the print head under warm water and shake it around. If there's a clog in one or more of the colors (in my case it was magenta) you'll see that color ink washing out. Look on the inside and wipe out any ink that you see seeping out with a q-tip. Reapeat this step until you see no more ink coming out. Then thoroughly dry the head out (like overnight in front of an AC or fan) and then put everything back together.

Great printer. I do use cheap ink. most of my black cartridge cost me less than $1 each.

until one day my blank print head was clogged. i even try to wipe the black print head with alcohol. it didnt help. i couldn't fix it.

After Thanksgiving 2005, I was going to buy a new printer & throw my mp360 away. after doing alot of research, this printer had better rating than majority of All In One out there.

i stumbled upon Randy Klingberg's posting, and decided to give it a shot. i had nothing to lose.

i used a syringe to inject isopropyl rubbing alcohol into the empty black ink cartridge. i used it to print 15 pages at a time, repeatedly. i filled up the cartridge twice w/alcohol.

the results were phenomenal!!!! thank you Randy!!!!

Not a bargain for me.......2005-12-02

I bought this Canon MP about 1 1/2 years ago. It printed great for 9 mo., but then the rollers that feed the paper kept jamming on the right side. I couldn't print anything. No problem, it was still under warranty so Canon replaced it with a refurbished unit. Now 6 mos. later, this unit is jamming the paper on the right side. I thought this must be a defect in the model, but after reading the reviews here, I don't see anyone else with my problem. Just beware. This is two machines that this has happened to.

Miracle of modern Engineering.......2006-01-15

I got a Lite-On SOHW-1693S internal DVD reader burner drive one week ago. Apart from having to move a Zip drive and my floppy drive, due to cable layout problems, installation was all acording to plan. Good manuals and hints, seem to cover all the bases when it comes to installation. I turned my computer on, loaded the Nero software that came with the unit and I was burning DVD's in less than 20 minutes. I have made 3 copies each of 6 DVD's and moved a lot of my CD pictures, data and music to DVD. It will do all the formats that I know of, including dual layer. It will let you put DVD video onto a CD, put CD data, pictures and music onto a DVD and the backitup software is the easiest to use that I have seen. The only flaw with the Nero software that I can even mention is that when you first read a DVD to the computer, you should specify how many copies you are going to make before you make the image. Learned that the hard way when I went to make two copies of a DVD and I had to reread the source DVD a second time. Once you understand that, it is perfect. I have used a bunch of different media, from Fuji, Verbatim, even the no name brands and I have not made a coaster yet. I can put DVD video onto CD's, convert wide screen to full screen and visa versa. The easiest, fastest, just a lot of fun.No hassle and the Lite-On site has upgrades available if you want.
Great device, exceeds all expectations, the Backitup software will encourage people to actually do a back up once ina while.

No surprises.......2005-09-06

I am by no means an extraordinary PC hardware guy, but the DVD drive on my four year old Compaq Presario died and forced me under the hood anyway (without USB 2.0, I had little choice but to select an internal drive). I installed this drive by simply connecting two cables. I was in and out in ten minutes (I don't have the hands of a surgeon) and watching a movie in about 14 (it took four minutes to boot up and start the movie). The Lite-On is easy to install, fast and quiet. Color me happy.

I Bought this at OfficeMax but decided I should Review it because it worked really well. I just stored my entire music Library of 22 Gigs onto 5 dvd's. Havent tried out the Double Layer DVD's but I'm sure they will work.

Very Good Performance, User friendly.......2004-12-27

I got this drive, in black, for Christmas this year. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did. I have a Dell Dimension and installation took a total of about ten minutes and I used nothing more than a pair of scissors, to get the package open, and a philips head screwdriver. Popped open the case, removed my old CD-RW and added my new DVD-RW and plugged it in to my IDE cable in the same position as my old drive. You then need to connect the wire that clips to the sound card. Then I just booted the machine. With WindowsXP Home there was no need to load any drivers, it was automatically recognized and configured. Everything worked on the first try. I have done these types of installs before so I never bothered to read the instructions until I was finished. However I can tell you that the instructions provided are very clear and detailed. But this is not a hard install to do, so if you have never done anything like this before, it is a good project to start with.

Now I have two DVD drives, since I had a DVD-ROM that came with the Dell. With the addition of the Nero software, which comes with the new drive, I am able to put a DVD in my reader, and a blank dvd in my DVD-RW and do a disc copy without writing an entire dvd to my hard drive, which saves a lot of time and space. But I am getting off topic.

This drive is very fast and does a great job with both DVD's and CD's. It is quiet as well and since it is so fast it doesn't have to run constantly as most slower drives. I have burned a number of DVD's since installing this drive and have had ZERO errors thus far. Not one problem or even slight bump in the road. For the money you cannot find a better burner. If you are even thinking of making this purchase, just do it.

Make sure CF cards are USB-able like the Lexar.......2001-03-25

I got the 32 MB Lexar and the Jumpcable free with the purchase of a Canon S100. It is a great combination. One can also use it to download a series of shots from the PC to review on TV through the camera!. I have a Viking 32 MB for my Pocket PC and it does not work with the reader, making me wish I had known that not all CF cards can do the USB trick!

We have this exact Lexar card and just love it. The best thing is the Jumpshoot cable which hooks to any computer with a USB port (hot-swappable). Instead of hooking your camera up to your computer, you can simply take the card out of your camera and insert it in the Jumpshot Cable's slot. Then, the CF card shows up on you computer as if it were a hard drive. You simply copy them to you own hard drive. In the meantime your camera can be in use or simply saving power. (Note: The Jumpshot Cable does come with some software so it will work on your computer-PC or Mac.)

In addition, Lexar is know among pro photographers as one of the better quality manufacturer's. Great Quality and a Great Product.
