The 4.5" Newtonian reflector has always been popular for its all-around performance, modest size, and affordability. But we've improved this classic model by installing a corrector lens right into the focuser. This allows for a long effective focal length (1000mm, f/8.8) in an optical tube about half just 18" long. The result is a telescope that is just as powerful as the standard 4.5" but far more portable. The 4.5"-diameter primary mirror collects a lot of light, revealing a wealth of space treasures. The aluminum optical tube is held securely on an EQ-1 equatorial mount by cast-metal tube rings equipped with quick-release clamps. The EQ-1 mount is equipped with dual slow-motion controls, but also accepts an optional electronic drive for automatic star tracking.

I especially like to use this scope for lunar viewing. My family and neighbors often join me for a look around our local sky. Favorites are the Orion nebula and Saturn's rings. Not the most spectacular device, but worth hours of fun (even without an automated "go to" system!)Short tube makes it easy to "toss" into the car for travel.

Avoid This Type of Scope.......2005-06-10

Orion is a top notch importer of excellent budget telescopes. In general, there equipment and customer support is unparalleled.

This telescope is an exception to that rule!

The mount is too small and unstable but more importantly, they built a barlow lens into the focus tube to increase magnification of the spherical mirror. This means that they have already decreased the light output of the scope to 1/4 of what it could be because of the higher magnification.

Also, the quality of the mirror and barlow is poor, you will NOT receive clear or quality images when compared to another 4.5" telescope.

A Good Investment.......2005-12-27

I purchased the Linksys WAG54G ADSL-gateway over a month ago (November, 2005) and its performance has been outstanding. My home Network, consisting of six Notebooks and one desktop, now has a single internet connection, which is shared by all nodes on the Network.
The setup process was pretty straight forward, although I did experience connection problems, as I couldn't connect to my ISP. This was resolved when I updated the Firmware from version 1.19 to version 1.22, since then the equipment has performed satisfactory.
Before purchase, inquire from your ISP if the product is compactable with the services provided by your ISP.

Third Time is the Charm.......2005-07-05

This unit works great (when it works), but there must be some problem with the QC at the manfacturer. My home system is all built on Linksys G equipment, both cabled and wireless. I purchased my first WAG54G when I couldn't get my Linksys router (WRT54G)to communicate with my Zyxel modem. The WAG54G contains an ADSL modem, solving that problem. The unit lasted exactly 10 months before it failed. My 2nd WAG54G lasted almost 5 months before it too failed. In both cases the failure was preceded by frequent rebooting, resetting the configuration, and constant visits to the Linksys Web FAQ's and technical support. Today I have installed my 3rd WAG54G. If my whole system wasn't built on Linksys (and I wasn't already so intimately familiar with the set-up and configuration of this unit) I would have changed to a different brand. As I waited in line to return the failed unit, another customer in front of me was returning the same product which had failed in under a week. What is going on here? Hard to believe these units have a 3 year warranty.
