I got this camera second-hand from my Dad. It was my first SLR camera, but I learned on it and all my lenses and accessories are compatible with Canon's newer DSLR's like the 20D and the upcoming 30D, which I plan to get to use side-by-side with my Elan IIe. The controls are even similar, which will make the learning curve minimal to get started with the digital. Autofocus is nearly flawless, exposure meter is very good too. The only complaint I have is the flash -there's a flash button on the top of the camera and I have no idea what it does. There's no fill flash (annoying), and you simply can't control whether or not the flash is used in certain modes (like macro and portrait). I understand the logic behind it to a degree, but I'd really like the ability to control the flash :P

I've owned this camera for three years and have yet to had any problems with it and it's quality never ceases to amaze me. I highly recommend this camera to amateur-professional photographers. Whether you are new to the photography world or a seasoned photographer this camera allows for versatility, capatablity, and most of all, convenience. Functions as a simple automatic camera to complex fully manual camera w/lots of extra features for creative photographers!

Perfect Intro to SLR.......2001-10-04

I have had this camera (coupled with a Sigma 28-105 lens) for about a year and a half now. This camera has allowed me to explore techniques in photography that you just don't get with other models. It comes with more features than you can shake a stick at! The price listed here too is awesome. I got mine for ... without the lens.

The picture quality is excellent. The quality and sharpness of your photos may vary based on your ability and the lens you attach to it, but rest assured that if you know how to tell the camera to take a good picture, it won't let you down.

Extraordinary Camera!.......2001-08-11

I've had my Canon EOS Elan II for almost seven years and though my technique has advanced, this camera is still home to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for improved technology -- digital cameras, memory cards, photo quality printers, etc should not be ignored. But nothing beats a 35mm SLR, especially with this kind of setup. What's so great about the Canon EOS is that it gives the photographer the power of choice. Unlike simple point-and-shoots, the Elan II offers the option between automatic and manual exposure settings (or even somewere in between) to ultimately empower the photographer to gauge how much creative/technical input he/she wants in his photographs. In addition, features like focus lock, bracketing, depth of field control, dual exposure for creative superimposed images, almost seem like welcome icing on the proverbial cake.

Abuse is the order of the day with my camera, and I'm happy to say that my Canon has held steadfast in this regard too. Durability is not a problem here. If you're thinking seriously about taking better photographs, you can't go wrong with this one. It's well worth the investment.

The Ultimate Affordable SLR.......2001-06-05

After looking long and good at all camera brands and models, I found a great deal on the Elan II. This camera has it all. The aluminum body makes it strong and durable. It's a little on the heavy side--but that makes it less wobbly when you take the picture. All modes are there plus more-you can do everything from manual exposures to fully auto to blurry backgrounds. If you can push it a little and pay for the Elan II, I would buy it. It is much superior to the Rebels, even more than the Rebel 2000. THIS CAMERA IS AWESOME!!! 5 STARS PLUS RATING!!!

My first DVD player was an Oritron. Keep in mind that this was several years ago and at that point, even low end DVD players were around $100. It worked for about 3 months before it started having serious issues with the sound. As in NO sound. It didn't matter what disc you used, no sound. The machine was exchanged for the exact same model (not my choice, mind you) and what a shock, after about 3 months, it started having the same problem. Go figure. Even unplugging the machine to reboot it didn't solve the issue. On the rare occasions you could get the sound to work, it was not in sync with the picture. Talk about irritating. There are so many decent players now that are at a really good price that there is absolutely NO reason to purchase this piece of junk. Don't waste your money because unless you enjoy the use of subtitles just so you know what is going on, this one isn't worth the effort. Not even worth one star.

This is a great DVD player. It has everything you need, at a price you can't beat. It's such a good buy. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks great, this is the one. It has good sound and picture for the price. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say I love it. It was cool.

A total piece of junk--cheap inside and out. I received this as a gift, and am dreading my in-laws asking about it. It died precisely one day after the warranty expired. Very slow to crank up compared to others, frequent freezing, unresponsive remote control (you could get married and divorced waiting for it to respond to commands!) Poor picture quality with frequent waving and picture edge disintegration. Finally, it refused to give up a DVD, forcing me to take the cover off to retrieve it. Believe me, I have 2 other DVD players, and you can do much better for the price. Try Sony, Panasonic, and Toshiba. I'm sure you work hard for your disposable income; don't waste it on this. My Sony has been playing flawlessly since I bought it, and it is over 2 years old now, and really wasn't much more than this, and in fact, the prices have come down since I bought it. Nothing is a bargain if you are throwing it away right after the warranty expires.

with all of the different DVD players out there, it is hard to find which one to buy or for what type of player to look for. if you are a more astute movie fan, you will want THIS Oritron DVD 200! not only does it play U.S. DVD's, but it also plays ANY REGION DVD from any country -plus- VideoCD's (VCD) which usually only work on computers. with video quality that of [an expensive] system, you can't beat one of the best DVD players for 2002!

Stable and Easy to Set Up.......2006-10-27

I have a wireless network comprised primarily of Belkin hardware. So I was concerned about compatibility issues. But multi-port ethernet bridges are not easy to find. So I took a chance with this. Setup is relatively easy if you know fundamentals about wireless networking. I agree with the other reviewers that the documentation is pretty useless. You have to disable encryption on the network prior to setting up the WET54GS5 and the documentation doesn't cover this at all. Once the initial setup is completed, enabling WEP encryption was straightforward. I didn't try WPA encrption so I can't speak to that functionality. I use the WET54GS5 to connect my Slingbox Pro, Tivo 3, and Xbox 360. It's been over 30 days and no issues whatsoever. The unit has been on since I set it up and I haven't touched it since. Range appears to be good as my wireless router is at the other end of the house and there have been no connection issues, unlike some other wireless devices I have. Best of all was the price on Amazon, $90. Anywhere else, this unit sells for between $140-$150. Overall, if you only need WEP encryption, the WET54GS5 should do the trick.

When my WET54G bridge died on me, I thought I'd get this version of the product...

Very disappointing. This version of the product was unreliable, as compared to the bridge-only version. It was unable to keep connections, and seemed slow to initiate connections. I rebooted it frequently in order to get connections...

The WETG54 product never had a problem -- until the day it died. It served me very well.

The moral of the story -- sometimes seperate components are better than combinations. Stick to the components.

The WETG54S5 is not worth the trouble.

If you like WEP you are in luck - with WPA - stay away!.......2006-07-16

This thing is great with WEP but flaps when you enable WPA with a pre-shared secret. I purchased this in the hope of connecting my Tivo to my WLAN since it doesn't support WPA at all! It was an expensive mistake. Everytime I want to update Tivo, I have to power cycle the device. It works for a bit then drops and reconnects. I have used it with a D-Link and with a Checkpoint Safe@Office with the same results. If you use WPA, don't buy it.

i love this little bridge have had it for about 2 years and has never failed, although i haven't tried using WPA the wep on this has never dropped a connection. i use this bridge to connect my office equipment that has a network hard drive, computer, xbox to the rest of my wireless AP under the bed... and it has never fail me yet. according to some other post if you need WPA security the latest firmware is stable. the driverless web interface also makes it easy to administer. btw this lets you conn. several wired devices to a wireless network. not just one like several ethernet bridges advertise. very useful device!

The remote works great, it's Infrared, so you have to point it at the right speaker for it to work correctly. The speakers sound great, are plenty big (I'd hate to have bigger speakers!), and have a good aluminum casing.
