Great Pictures.......2003-02-20
It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.

I acquired an S830D recently.
You don't need the auxiliary screen to print directly from the memory card slot.
To access the cropping capabilities, yes, you need a screen or a compatible camera, but not to print from a memory card. Inserting a memory card (and I've used both CompactFlash and SmartMedia from both Canon and Olympus cameras) causes the S830D to go into a mode that activates automatic print functions on the printer control board. You can print an index sheet of thumbnail images, print all images in a wide variety of multi-print-per-page formats, selected prints using the index and vary the print media and quality from plain paper to Photo Paper Pro.
I have been very happy with both the color and the contrast produced by the printer with no computer intervention.
As for the rest of the printer's features, photo lab quality, good ink economy, fast and quiet operation.
This is the best printer I have ever owned.

... That said, I'm very happy with this printer. Other reviews, like the one on C|Net, have faulted the printer for mediocre text printing. I can't really address that complaint...have a laser printer for text and only use the S830 for printing photos and I'm very, very happy with how it performs that function. It's fast, I like being able to replace the ink cartridges separately, supports Exif if your digital camera outputs the encrypted data and the pictures are indistinguishable from those printed conventionally. It's the perfect color printer for my advanced amateur needs.

Other review has talked much about this printer. I only have few comments for those who don't know:
- First, the USB cable is not included. You have to buy the USB cable to install the software to re-align the print head, for example. The print head was factory set and produce beautiful print though
- Second, the little LCD screen is not included and cost 100 USD to purchase separately. You need it if you print photo directly from your memory card in the built in slot of the printer. Without the screen, you can't print from this slot.
- Third, there are "selected" Canon camera that support direct print with this printer. My ELPH S110 only works with the CP-10 or CP-100 photo printer, but not with this printer. What a pain!
- 4"x6" borderless paper is what you probably need as it give a nice borderless photo at ease. Printing direct on A4 or letter paper waste a lot of paper at the edge. You may as well cut the A4 to 4 pieces and print from the PC, which allow you to print, say, A6 borderless photo. Don't get bother with the perforated paper.
- The sample pack paper give the best result. I wonder if they sell it.
- Turn on the Image optimizer with Vivid photo option gives even better picture when printing direct.
- If you don't want the direct printing, or you always edit your photo first before printing, go for some other Canon printer that do not have direct printing, it will save you some big bucks.
My wife loves this printer, because she can work with it alone, without a PC. That's the point, after all, to have a direct printing option, right?

We bought this printer to go with the canon G2 we bought.Excellent choice.First I must say if you are considering buying it from anyone other than Amazon[.com],DON'T.I have dealt with Amazon[.com] for years and they are the best at what they do,no one comes close.The printer is so easy to setup,not like some of are other printers.We are using Window XP,it went like a breeze.in lees than 30 minutes I was printing pictures.... I am still learning all the features,but the quality of the pictuers is as good if not better than any other.. And it is fast fast,printed 2 4x6 pictures in less than 4 minutes,I have found that you do need to buy quality paper.I used the Canon 4x6 bordless paper first until I ran out, then I switched to another brand,big mistake.Use the right paper and you to will be amazed.

Print Head Failed after some heavy use.......2007-06-06
This printer worked great for about 3 years. After printing 200 or so pages of picture indexes some of the color jets seemed to be clogged. Then it stopped printing altogether. Diagnostic light flashed amber 7 times followed by green flash = failed print head. Why can't Canon replace this part for about $10?
Wonderful and Faithful Printer.......2006-10-05
I've had two of these babys for several years now and they never cease to put out great copy, whether b&w or photos. I have no idea why others are disappointed (probably the same dude) but mine work great and it's sooooo quiet. Do the print heads ever clog??? Sure, like all printers without built-in printheads in their ink cartridges (which cost way more). I had two HP's and they always printed poorly except on the HP high quality paper. These printers print great on a grocery bag. If the head gets gunked up do what every other normal person does... boil some distilled water in a sauce pot and swirl the head around in it several times, but don't get the electronics wet. Works every time.

My mom's friend had this printer for some time now. and he gave the printer to her to give to me. So when I got it. I didn't have the installment CD so I went to canon's site and they had software to use for it for free! Alright so I got it all installed, Got new ink or it (since the old ones where empty) and I started it up for the first time in forever! I print something and it came out really swell for an older printer. I was pretty happy with the results for an older printer. I have had no problems with it so far. only thing I am not to happy with is sometimes grey looks kinda green. I am not sure if that's something in genral or what.. But it's kinda nasty. >.

at first you'll be happy, then you'll be mad.......2005-10-19
When the printer is new and loaded with fresh ink and prints on *Canon* brand photo paper, prints come out great. Take a month or two off from your photo hobby and try again. Presto. Your color ink tanks have dried up - time to shell out $35. Try to print something out a few weeks later. Presto. Your blank ink tank is empty - time to by another. Try using any other brand of photo paper - crappy prints - you must by expensive Canon photo paper. A few weeks/months later, try to print with fresh tanks - zippo. The print head is clogged - buy a new one for $150... no chuck the S520 and buy a new not-Canon printer. But first, try soaking the print head in some isopropyl alcohol overnight, dry thoroughly, and see if it works.
Junk .......2005-08-04
The paper never fed correctly. When I installed the printer, I felt that there was something not right with the print head. The print head would have to go thru a little warm up routine before each time it printed. But it printed well, printed quickly, but was noisy. So I never sent it back to the company from whom I bought it. I figured it was too much of a hassle. BIG MISTAKE!! 18 months later the black ink will not print. I have tried all the troubleshooting tricks. It needs a new print head. I know I didnt even print more than 1000 pages from this printer. The print head should have lasted a lot longer than that. I have had my old lexmark for 7 years without 1 problem.

Ive owned all of the Philips/Nike mp3 players...not because I need to have the latest and greatest but becuase they kept dying on me. The software was a pain to use (especially since im using itunes now which is VERY EASY).
The only reason I stuck with the player is because I bought the extended warranty from Best Buy (if you buy this player you NEED the warranty) and they would replace it with a newer model.
I made the switch to the ipod nano a year ago and havent looked back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this player like the plague. Phillips and Nike no longer have a partnership due to the poor performance of this player.
New Software Renders Unit Useless.......2006-10-08
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Phillips has changed the operating system so that it relies upon Musicmatch Jukebox for file maintenance. The problem is that the basic Jukebox program and plug in don't work. So, once you upgrade the firmware and software, you are left with a very expensive paperweight. I assume that all is corrected if you pay Musicmatch for an upgrade, but I am unwilling to take the chance for a couple reasons. First, the unit should work fine without forcing me to buy separate software (or they should disclose this fact so a purchaser can figure this into the total purchase price). Second, fool me once. What happens if I upgrade and the thing still does not work. All in all, Nike and Phillips should be very embarrassed. This device worked fine until they screwed around with the software so as to allow people to purchase and download songs.

As a runner, I thought this would be a good purchase. I even took my un-used Ipod back before opening the Ipod because I thought this item would be better -- I was WRONG! During my first run the product fell on the concrete and never turned back on again. Philips would not replace it because they said I "misused" it. Philips demonstrated extremely poor customer service and I found no help when I contacted the seller from Amazon. Don't waste your money on this or any other product from Philips!

I am quite happy with the purchase of this MP3 player and cannot understand people's problems with the software. To specifically address others' problems (that I can remember):
I am using Windows XP and have absolutely no problem loading songs onto my player, both MP3 and WMA. I also have no problem copying from CDs that I have previously burned as well as commercial CDs that I have bought.
I can drag and drop titles just fine from my files with the software. I have also had no problem assigning my own name to playlists that I create.
I was up and running and loading songs within minutes of installing the software.
It's a great piece of equipment for the price.
Great MP3 player.......2005-11-27
I got this as a gift from my husband. I run on a daily basis and this player has yet to let me down.The battery life is excellent I cant even remember the last time i had to charge it! I love that i have an option to wear it around my arm or around my waist with the belt. I have no complaints if you read the directions and learn how to use the software to transfer the music its easy as pie!
